- How do you set up a saddle?

We visited fi'zi:k to find out how to fit their three most popular models - the Arione, Antares and Aliante. As each model of saddle is shaped differently, they each require a slightly different fit. Luca Viano of fi'zi:k took us through how to angle each of the different models for maximum comfort. Even if you don't use a fi'zi:k saddle, this is great advice for saddles of different shapes!

My 2 cents. I’ve ridden all three of the fizik saddles and found these recommendations for (starting points) worthwhile on all but the Aliante. If your merely level the front portion of this saddle your going to be sliding forward badly. The Aliante, in my opinion, has a very distinct sweet spot in the cradle of the saddle. It is made for a slightly more upright position and really comfortable in that area. Level the center of the saddle and fine tune from there. IMO.
Thanks for this guys, measured my saddle this morning before my ride and it was at 9 degrees nose down! I flattened it out and my ride was infinitely more comfortable this morning. Thank you!
I should have seen video right when I bought my bike with antares saddle, not after 3 months of complications from the wrong setting. Turned out I set angle from the end to the nose, not from the middle to the nose. Thanks for posting this
By the way, the links on this video for the time jumps to Aliante/Antares/Arione do not work. Keep up the great work GCN!
Arione: 0:45
Antares: 1:51
Aliante: 2:35
Great timing, as i just ordered an Arione r3. Can't wait to get it on the bike!
Exactly what i needed, just bought an Antares saddle! Thanks GCN!
Just ordered a new Antares yesterday - great timing!
Recently tested and just purchased the Aliante R3 Kium. I love the saddle. I also tested the Selle SMP Drakon. Not nearly as comfortable as the Fizik.
Yet another reason -- as if we needed one -- to love the GCN guys. I had been struggling with the fit of my new Aliante R3, largely because of all the internet recommendations to set the saddle level nose to tail. I initially set mine up that way, then kept dropping the nose to make life bearable for my testicles (by the way, why in the world can't people grow up and use the correct term, instead of juvenile euphemisms?). I was approaching dead level when I saw this video, and followed through. Who would have thought that following the Creator's instructions would lead to bliss (yes, that's a theological reference)?
See i find the opposite with the aliante R3. I find i slip off the front if i follow this video. I found for me a negative 3 degree angle does me fine.
@@abedfo88 i may need to consider this before buying another saddle!
Wow! You just saved my ass... literally!
Fizik saddles are too narrow for me (however for limited time of riding Arione is great, it is more like flying than riding), but I was unaware of a seat post with dial in for tilting, great!
Aliante setup it this way , sliding to front all the time and all weight is on arms.
i just ordered a fizik Arione r5 open. i was always sliding forward on the slr superflow and fabric line. im Pretty sure its because of the downward slope on the rear.
Thank you, this info are very usefull
Thanks a lot. It was very helpful!
bought myself the fizik Aliante Vs K: IUM saddle the best saddle i bought i just put it on my MTB use a leveler and set my for aft this saddle is amazing really good shock absorbing good flexibility the relief zone is just amazing this saddle also have i slight upward on the back that really set me in the saddle for good control i will never buy another one promised
I always knew there was something wrong with me, now I realize I'm a Bull. Thanks, Fizik for the perfect video! There's a lot of junk information out there so it's awesome to get correct information from the source!
The new Aliante in such position make me.slide forward. I've setup nose down 4mm (1,2 degree) saddle to nose. But it would be great if Viano can indicate the Fizik neutral way of positioning the saddle
Level IS neutral.
Yeah, but level saddle to noise, not only first 7cm. It's totally wrong!
Thanks for all the useful explanations. 2 remarks/requests: (i) Would be great if a document from Fizik could be made available explaining all this + some concepts like the anatomic center ; (ii) @GCN and @Fizik would be great if you could do the same video for Tri specfic saddle (mistica).
I belong to the snake family
and just want to ask that
when I will lower my stem then will arione saddle will help achieve the comfort?
This is just a general way of setting seat positions, each rider has their comfort zone, main thing is fitting the right saddle to your butt and your riding position you ride most in....
Thank you! 👍
I have a 2016 Focus Raven max SL and it came with the Tundra M-5=magnesium rails, I just got a Gobi M-1 with carbon rails, do I need special mounting hardware for the carbon rails?? The M-1 rails fit perfectly into the seat post rails I have now
How about the Argo? Should we level it from the centre or across its full length?
Tried the full range and thought they were hard as hell, none of them were comfortable for me but I have a really boney bum. Riding a standard felt atm as the prologo my bike came with gave me sores but still not happy.
Any recommendations how to level the Mistica, please?
very good video...........................
It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
Was he wearing a Fizik ring?
how is the pressure of these seat on the perineal area compared to an adamo seat?
I cant understand like 75mm to the saddle
Did he say balls or bulls 😂
I just got the Antares Versus Kium with has a cut in the middle. How would you go about leveling it? The level tool won't stay put because of the cut.
Put a flat piece of wood or whatever other plain surface to help you out.
Do you need a torque rench, or can I just use an Alan key?
If you have carbon parts it is recommended you use a torque.
Try it but not work on arione
I try on -7 degree magical super comfort!!
My aliante just seems rock solid towards the nose and if i angle it down slightly to lessen the discomfort, i feel like I’m sliding forwards because of how ramped the rear of the saddle is??!
It felt the same way when I set it up like that. I took a longer level and leveled the saddle from front to back. It creates a cradle, but I no longer slide forward. Its comfortable for me.
2:35 use for our what!? XD
Bulls, I think Snake, Charmeleon and Bulls are different types of riders Fizik categorizes.
and you thought it was another word, right? haha
Yup XD
His little giggle right after didn't help either lol
maybe you guys thought of the same thing. haha.
Karl Oriel
Dose it have holes for a water bottle
pleas very very importent
my arione isn't completely flat, just like is isn't on the website
Where can you buy a level like that? I’ve done a search for Fizik spirit level but nothing comes up
Any hardware should have this.
someone can tall my pleas how to level the aliante idont understand 75 its not corect
Place the bubble level in the first 75 millimeters starting from the saddle nose.
no its not corect i need the corect one
I would agree in that the video looks incorrect. Measuring from the tip of the nose back, 75mm only gets to the A in Alliante on my Alliante VS. Please can you tell us the correct measurement, and any tips on how to level the VS. Thanks!
All Fizik saddles are measured from the nose to where the saddle is 75mm WIDE which is where they say the anatomical center is for all their saddles.
You only need to level the part of the saddle that’s flat which is the top of the nose (right before it dips down at the nose) to the middle of the saddle where it starts pointing upwards.
Has anyone fitted the Kurve saddle to a Giant Propel with Giant seat clamp?
I have an Aliante on a Defy Advanced, with the Vector composite seat post. If your question is about how to get the nose down enough, the answer is to switch the clamp as shown in this post: www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12914304
god bless how help me
the Aliante has so much curve in front that it is almost impossible to place the level.
I have the Aliante saddle on my 2 main bikes, my 3rd (winter bike) has an Antares. The set up of the Aliante described here didn't work for me... the section where he says to make it flat or 1 degree down, mine is more like 1 degree up. It took me a while to dial it in, but I hate the feeling of slipping forward when riding, so I have mine set at the most forward leaning position where this forward slipping doesn't happen. Also, I had a bike fit in the summer and it ended up being more like 2.5 degrees up, which felt ok when I was on the tops, but not the drops. Once dialled in though, it's great. My R3 (non-open) is way more comfortable than the R1 Open I have too. My Antares is set up like shown in this video, and that works fine and is also really comfortable. Hope this helps!
I always raise the front of the saddle up slightly.
Careful with your prosthetic area
Have seat. Will sit down.
I'll Never make a snake, wish I was a chameleon, really I'm a bull. Depressing
peter sagan used the aliante when he was with cannondale, don't feel to bad, you're in good company
Paham
How do you know if you are a snake, chameleon or bull?
palmer3977 check out wiggle's channel where they will show how to preform the test on what body type you are
Joshua Dimas Thx mate I will.
Fizik has a new app for your smartphone that will calculate which saddle they think is best for you.
Fizik saddle giant
this dude looks like he's cousins with valverde.
Why do you really need a nose, my tilt is sharp down
