I watched the Red Tent a while ago, so the accounts and story of what happened to Dinah was mixed but this was a great and powerful video.

It is disgusting and heartbreaking how Dinah was mistreated.
Her brothers loved her because they avenged the crime of rape. Going by actions, Jacob didn’t care at all about Dinah. I wonder. Is it because Leah was her mother? Is it because Dinah is a daughter and not a son?

Yes to both questions. I felt that way too. I believe had Rachel's bloodline been in thsi situation he would've done something. It was wrong to sit by and try to arrange a marriage for your daugther WHO WAS RAPED!

@@maitumelobatsile8287 No, that's judging by today's culture. Jacob was trying to save his family from war. What was wrong was for the brothers to shed innocent blood. If you read the entire Holy Bible, you'll find it was the law back then that if a woman was forced in that way they were instructed by God to pursue marriage of the two. Jesus taught that if a man divorces his wife he causes her to commit adultery. God is saying in the entire Bible, that a woman is meant to have only 1 man all her life.
And Jacob loved Leah, just not as much as Rachel because he was tricked into marrying Leah. Regardless, he wasn't the type of man to not love a wife and all their children.

@@stephtimms1776 Jesus also said that you are allowed to divorce if you'r partner is unfaithful and cheated on you.
The fact is, marriage is sacred in God's eyes. It supposed to be a life lasting thing, so it's a serious bussines. You shouldn't treat marriage as something you can gett ridd of once a problem arises.
Also you'r wrong. Jacob did neglect Leah and favored Joseph over her sons.

@@EvaEstera It's all a matter of how you look at it, and how well you know the Holy Bible and the kind of men Abraham and Jacob were. They were great prophets and would not feel and act the way you are describing. It's easy to look back on history, even as recent as our own parents and judge them unfairly especially if you've never had their experiences.
God sees things differently. Yes, marriage is sacred that is exactly why Jacob did what he did. Shechem, the prince of that land who forced her, was willing to learn and participate in their traditions, in other words convert to their religion. He demonstrated this by being circumcised and requiring all the males in their tribe to do the same. He was coming from a culture of ignorance and sin, but demonstrated willingness to learn and obey the law. In my view, God values this and was conveying it to Jacob.
Jacob did not neglect Leah, as we can see when she was included in important family discussions, like when Jacob was planning on moving away from Laban, their father, he consulted with both Leah and Rachel who both gave their consent. Even wonderful parents aren't perfect, and may have favorites. How would you feel if you thought you married one man but your dad switched it to another man on you? Laban could've and should've waited until someone came along who loved Leah. Regardless, Jacob was a great man and would've learned to love Leah too, and her children.

No offense, but as woman you never SEE the whole picture. Like Jacob said, they were outnumbered.
If he had rebelled against the Canaanite family they could have easily annihilated them and in this way not only his daughter but also the rest of his family would suffer. To be a great leader sometimes you have to make difficult decisions, her brothers acted impulsively

It is probable that Dinah had a secret affair with Shechem and was using the story of the Canaanite friends as a guise to see him. Given that he was not circumcised, it was a taboo and a shame on her to sleep with him but she did it anyway. To cover the shame, she claimed she was raped and the males around her acted accordingly.
Jacob's family was decietful as was his ancestry, she was just an apple from the tree. Too bad many had to die.

@@NikkiGRocks4Ever That doesn't justify killing an entire town, going against their father, the patriarch, and God who was leading him.
