    Hey! I'm from Russia. recently bought myself a Crave. You are the only one who makes such complete and quality video tutorials on this synthesizer. My English is bad, but I'm starting to understand. Thanks for your time.

    Wow, class is in secession. This short video has more useful information then Deadmaus entire online EDM course.

      But the class neglected to teach you how to spell session? 😉 Also it is Deadmaus' since the course is possessed by them so we use a possessive apostrophe. 😉

    Not only a good introduction to the Crave... But also basic synthesis in general 👍

    As others have said but in my opinion can't be highlighted enough: your introduction is extremely valuable and engaging to watch!
    I just bought the Crave as my first synthesizer and your tutorial makes it easy and fun for me to learn about the machine. Because of your explanations I'm excited to learn more about the Crave, effects, notes and synthesizers. Thank you for that!

    What a wonderful refresher course, I just forget about what does what sometimes and start making noise! Lol, your little course here is valuable information for all synths! The Crave just happens to be the least expensive, minus P.O. operators of course, in which case the fundamentals are still there but the average Joe has no idea why. Really nice job!

    Are you running that through some kind of compression? When I turn the resonance up above like 50% there is a huge drop in overall volume and I'm wondering if I got a defective unit, or if every video I'm watching includes compression?

    • @music-with-eric
      @music-with-eric  4 місяці тому +1

      No compressor used here, just crave directly into my audio recorder (zoom r8 for this video, iirc). Perhaps the UA-cam compression has something to do with it? Or maybe iMovie, which I used for the first few videos in this series. Later I switched to Davinci, but didn't have quite the right codec. Eventually I figured it out...
      Generally though, the volume tends to drop on many analog synthesizers when you increase the resonance (partly why I couldn't get on with the Minilogue); that behavior is dependent on the construction of the filter.

    You say that you can´t hear anything when you close the filter. Well, are you shure? Because i sit in front of my second crave and, as my first unit, the filter produces a hiss sound and the vca introduces also artefacts or some kind of distortion. And other people report of this problem to. Does the mother32 also behave like this?. I mean, is this normal for some analog filters?
    THX for your great explenations

    • @music-with-eric
      @music-with-eric  2 роки тому +1

      With the filter all the way closed, what you're hearing is primarily the 'ambient' sound of the electronic components in the Crave, headphones/speakers, etc., and not the oscillator itself.
      I didn't discover a great deal of this 'hiss' in my instrument, but also I rarely set its volume very high as I found the Crave to have a rather loud output volume in general. With most of my synths I turn their volume knob to max and then use my mixer's pad and gain to allow for unity on the slider - but even with those adjustments I still had to lower the Crave's main volume output.
      I can't comment on the Mother32 as I don't have one.

    Oh wow, this video is pretty basic and I love it - thanks for taking the time! Quick question: Is the resonance effect knob on the VCF similar to what's going on with a flanger guitar pedal?

    • @im-bb4fn
      @im-bb4fn 3 роки тому

      Or is it more like a phaser? O

    • @music-with-eric
      @music-with-eric  3 роки тому +1

      I suppose it's somewhat similar in that there's a sort of feedback involved, but I have no experience with flangers or phasers so I can't really say for sure :)

    These are very good tutorials. I just got my Crave today. I also have the Werkstatt. I'm wondering how to connect those 2 things. I also have the Keystep. I'm that into the Werkstatt via CV cables. I'm planning on using a Midi cable to go to the Crave. I noticed there's a conflict, when I try to use the USB to the iPad, from the Keystep. I'm just trying to figure out how to marry the two modules, safely. Thanks!

    Given that the range of audio frequencies is not linear (i.e. because it is, in fact, logarithmic) then setting the cutoff at the halfway point is technically not half of your sound. The lower frequencies are more widely spread out than those at the higher end of the audio spectrum! 😉

    Loving these tutorials. Just got my Crave today and they are coming in very handy so thank you. The sound at 7;30 is what Joy Kitikonti used in his track Joy Energizer.
