I’ve said this before on these channels. My mate is a genuine craftsman like Chris with 40 years experience. In the last 15 years he has gone over to the assessor side which used to be done by personal visits. He has now to his job via photos from home with insurance companies all too willing to write vehicles off, it’s cheaper. Needless to say he’s ready retire. That’s why you see so many inconsistencies.
As a car technician this car shouldn’t ever been written off for 2 doors and few air bags let alone cat s it shouldn’t even be a cat n lol
Copart now assess and puts the cat marker on them my daughter works for large insurance company and there aware Copart are not doing a great job
If Rob is having troubles sourcing the doors, maybe the cost of the hire car for the original owner was the thing that tipped this car over to salvage. Totally agree should not have been a cat S,it makes for great entertainment. These chaps will not be greedy in the resale either so there's a win win for all.
People WFH just looking at pictures??
@@brianbickle7395 yep
Soon cars will be disposable as even minor damage to an electric car battery will render it a write-off. No- one has the knowledge as yet to repair them at a reasonable cost. This is the prelude to that.
Completely and utterly bonkers that this vehicle is an insurance write off... even more so that it is a Cat S. We wonder why we're paying so much for car insurance... here's the reason why. It's a flipping scandal.
Using the damp water on the headlining as opposed to the dry water Rob? 😆 🤣 😂
😂
No wonder car insurance is going through the roof when insurers are writing everything off.
I was just thinking that. 2 doors, paint, airbag kits and some trim. It is black, so many of these are black
With the prices of Labour and parts it’s easier for them to write it off, but that reflects in our renewals… the whole system needs throwing in the bin and reworking
'Damp water'. That needs to be on a T-shirt 🙂
You could put 'Dry Water' on the back.
I'm just pulling your leg Rob. Amazing to see you gut the inside, and put it all back. Between you and Chris, there's nothing SRUK cannot do. Can't wait for part 2 (or anything you post).
I do not dislike the time-lapse clips, as long as you narrate over the top of them.
That X3 is going to make a cracking motor once finished.
That's the only problem when you buy the newer vehicles sometimes spares are hard to come by.
Love that damp water 😂
No-one expects you guys to know 10O% about every single car so don't beat yourselves up, it's a journey of discovery! Great video as always and thank you for sharing.👍👍👍
Thank goodness for time lapse, I'd rather watch more time lapse than miss an important job because you've not time lapsed it. The problem is you can't please everyone, whichever way I'll still watch your content regardless. What a lovely motor. Keep up the good work lads.
Glad you clarified that damp warm water is better than just damp water. I don't think anybody is assessing them, they're all too busy dealing with fraudulent claims to concentrate on the genuine ones!
Insurance Companies will just write them off for convenience, costs them nothing they just put the premiums up.😎
This ^
I think they know 'exactly' what they're doing when they destroy the curtains.
A perfectly & easily repairable car written off, and everyone’s wondering why their insurance is so high.
When air bags go off it's an auto cat s by the engineers was told this
Good job again fella. Just remember “He who has never made a mistake hasn’t done very much/made anything”
I can honestly say that I’ve never found one of your videos boring guys 🏴👍🏻
It is mad why the insurance companies write off cars which have minimal damage, my car was scratched very slightly & most of the damage could be polished out with a MOP. I had to fight tooth & nail to make the insurance get my car repaired,, my insurers did not even have to pay for the repair as the third party had claimed responsibility for the damage. 😊
Nice to see you have a corner of the yard reserved for only black BMW's.
Guess we all know where Stevie Wonder works these days then... at Copart assessing salvaged cars. Great job on those airbags Rob, anything that involves dropping a head lining is always a pain in the a***. You made light work of that one.
"Damp warm water" 😂 gotta love him 🙂
I would be happy driving that car even with damaged doors. 😂
When bodyshops stop trying to rip insurance companies off, more vehicles will be repaired. It's embarrassing the way the industry has gone.
Lovely looking motor 👌. I agree no way a cat s
Rob that strip out and rebuild looked a total nightmare, you did make it look easy but I know how hard that work is . Awesome
Can`t source the doors...... I feel a ` Hold my Latte, I got this ! ` moment coming from Chris🤣
Rob, I am happy to hear that you're using water that is damp.
That was extremely funny, and he said it twice !
can't believe that was written off just for that little bit of damage as you normally get far worst cars in the workshop can't wait to see more keep them coming guys 💯💯💯👍👍👍
Rob there is absolutely nothing boring in my mind watching what you do, same as Chris working away. Two wizards at work.
You made me chuckle….damp warm water…😂😂
Everyone thinks they can now repair salvage hence the silly prices at Co Part but it means there are lots or badly repaired cars being put back on the road.
Nice car though and surprising the damage warranted it being written off given the age and mileage of the car
I hate working on the interiors, full marks Rob you are great at this.
Another beltin video 😊
I wouldn't worry about time lapse, it is very interesting and highlights how much work is involved in what is needed to do what you do. Personally I find it very intriguing.
I love the X3 and the new shape is beautiful
It is always good to see you learning by experience still Rob. Even better hearing you pass the advice on to the viewer. Lovely job,
Bmw , engine , chain ! Parts ! Mega money from the stealerships , looks nice though guys 👍👍
Great work. That seat is a work of art. I must admit to a little chuckle at "damp water" though. 😉
I dont really like bmw but this one looks lovely
Top work on the interior with those airbags and seat belts. It was a lot of stuff to remove but you got there and they did an excellent job of the drivers seat which saved you a lot of time, no need to send it to the upholster. Thanks Rob and Chris for another great video from SRUK. 👍👍
This is gonna be Chris’s new motor can feel it coming 😂
In America we'd call slicing the airbags a release from seller's liability. Another great video gents!
Not the end of the weld, you always manage to find parts where other people would give up!
Best show on youtube, you guys work harder than anyone I know, and deserve all the good things in life. Many thanks to you both for the excellent videos, you put other dealers to shame with your work ethic, and honesty ,politeness to each other ,and positive attitude.
Thanks Rob & Chris always a great watch!
Sadly it's the " write offs " like these that are causing premiums to rise as well as key less thefts of vehicles
Cracking job Rob cheers guys
This never gets boring, thanks men 👏🏼👏🏼
Rob, great idea to use "damp" water on the roof lining... dry water just won't cut it.
It's a nightmare to get hold of is dry water 😂😂
Nice one guys that hour you stayed frees up practically all of next day, used to do it regularly myself stops all the palaver of getting everything ready and working yourself into the proper frame of mind, great post again guys
Good to see your honesty Rob about the module, most would overlook mentioning the error. How you actually remember where every bolt screw etc go is amazing. To me now at 75 and with some brain power, it would be a nightmare. I don't trust myself now and would keep double checking everything.,......afterwards!!!
In the past 24 hours I’ve watched the nightmare fire you had with that Range Rover followed by a couple of vids on a HA Viva. Pure agony v pure joy.
Good evening Rob and Chris. That is a really nice looking car especially the interior.Lots of hard work. Looking forward to the next update. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Another great video lads love watching
Can't believe it was "written off" for two doors and airbags. Is it possible to get that reversed and "struck off"?
Well done, guys, looks like you’ve struck gold with that one. I’ve had one of these from new and they are a great car. It’s good to hear that they are well built and engineered. Cannot wait for you to crunch the numbers
You make it all so easy, Rob. Look forward to seeing the new doors. Nice car
No wonder insurance premiums are going through the roof.

Getting close to 300k subs guys, great to see it and no more than you deserve!
Well done you two, Rob don't change to much as it's what I absolutely love watching.
Chris' has been headed off with the change, the look on his face heartbreaking.
Take care you two, can we get an update on the puppy please?
Well done Rob , those bits look pretty fiddly , pain that you couldn't find complete doors 2nd hand but hopefully the new doors painted by Smarts won't cause you a big headache...looking forward to your midweek video , cheers boyz
You and Chris are certainly turning alot of cars round .keep up the good work Rob and Chris I look forward to your videos on a Wednesday and a Sunday. Keep up the great work .👍🏻
And another thing. What a top job Rob 👍
Well done guy's that's going to be a quick turn around providing you can get the doors and the airbags looking forward to seeing the next one hopefully you'll doors in colour 👍
Another great video. Found your channel a few weeks ago and really enjoying the content. Keep up the great work guys 👍👍
I watched one video the other week with a Jag written off when a delivery van reversed into it and the guys fixing it clipped thd rear bumber back in place, no broken clips or anything, a small dent pushed out with a bit of heat and teplaced a broken rear light .... Totally cost £30 for the rear light from a breakers yard.
Nice work Rob lots of clips and bits. That X will look amazing Soon Thanks so much for sharing Gentlemen
Hello both, what a nice car,the two doors second hand are a nightmare but you ordered new.thankfully no sill or panel damage.cant wait to see it finished.
Damp water is always the best. 😂 It's cheaper than the dry stuff.
and Damp wet water .. 🙂
Great vid guys and another great purchase good work lads what a pair of gems ❤
Rob and Chris great job on the BMW X3 looking forward to the next video.😊
Blimey what a job Rob amazing
Another great find rob and Chris nice car once again, just shows you how hard it is to find parts secondhand on the newer models 😎👍
You are the man for the air bags Rob, but what a lot of work ps a lovely motor. I must be blind as I never saw it !
This is why insurance is so expensive. A while back someone I knew had a mint 4 year old BMW 540i X DRIVE M sport estate. Someone in a shed of a car, reversed along the side of it. It had no structural or airbag damage, just needed a wing, two doors and had a tiny ding on the rear quarter panel. The insurance company wrote it off, structural damage they claimed. After a battle he got the salvage back. He got the same coloured panels from a BMW breakers and fixed it in a day.
Excellent video, really interesting how hard the guys work to be able to sell a decent X3.
Good job...
wish i had saw this video last week , spent a fortune on a new seat , seatbelts and curtain airbag
Great video Rob and looking forward to seeing the next. 😊
Great video Rob 👍👍
Sunday evening sorted 👌
Great video lads. Your right about Insurers. Many of the Cat N I get from Copart have so little damage it’s laughable. No wonder insurance is so expensive these days.
Lovely car that guys will be stunning with its new doors and a splash n dash and out the door. Will sell in a heartbeat no doubt. Another great vid lads ❤
Great buy and quality work as always Rob!
Couple of new doors and a good detail and shes like new! :D
Lovely clean low mileage motor Rob. Well done on the fix thus far.
What a lovely car. I hope it will be well loved by the new owner. Can’t wait to see it on the road again.
Another belter lads. Nice buying Rob. Keep nicking them
Brilliant stuff lads
What a good looking motor , you are getting some nice stuff 👍👍👍
Great stuff gents. Keep up with the damp, warm water. Do well with that one.
Another great video,thanks lads👍🇮🇪
A brilliant job rob ,car looks amazing inside ,well done ✅
30,000 miles on that car?! That's incredible for a salvage title. Great find! 👍
Great video as always boy's. Luving it. Cheers
As usual lovely bit of salvage boys 🤙
Good stuff Rob, a few hours graft on that and it is coming along really well
Air Bag Service Ltd. , what a fantastic idea / service.
Good that you dont pretend to know everything Rob and i would say everyday is a school day tbh and its the way you deal with it thats good👍
The repair to the driving seat is amazing, I wonder how they did that.
Great content Rob . Thankyou
Hi guys this was very informative I’ve just bought one 2020 CAT N damage was middle console and side skirt 😅
