They left the tree in the boot because they knew you have a wood burner in the shop.
lol 👍that comment deserves top spot 👌
Stirling moss 😂
It’s probably part of the tree that caused the damage. 😢
😂
Nice bit of Cuprinol it’ll be sorted 👍😊
Chris the asbo hooligan with biggles goggles 😂😂😂😂😂😂
the laughing !!!! like a pair of kids ....... Loving Chris in the MK8"s
If you’re going to charge it again with the ‘granny charger’ then make sure you either don’t use an extension lead, or it’s at least large enough and FULLY unwound.
Thought it was Chubby Brown driving down the yard then ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chris laughing and those goggles.. priceless 😂😂😂 keep up the great work ..
The tree is in the boot because it’s actually the TRUNK….😂😂
😂😂😂
"What's next Chris?"
"I'm gonna have another little go, thats what's next!"
Hahahah love it!!
I think that clip of Chris driving the car fast for the first time and laughing has to be shown at the end of the year as a recap 😂
Chris’ laughing cracked me up.. Nearly as funny as him taking a pretend dump in that welfare unit !
Memories mate👍👍
You have a long memory 😂
Thanks for sharing ❤
😂😂
Genuine laugh out loud moment at Chris’s reaction to it’s acceleration 😂😂
Best fun Biggles has ever had….😂😂😂
Really like the i3. Great little car. Yes the door trim is made of recycled plastic. Can't believe the insurance wrote it off!
Yes, the damage is very light for a write-off, even a cat-N - maybe insurance companies are nervous about the unknown. It might be worth Rob & Chris keeping an eye out for cat-N EV's as, once the battery & powertrain isn't damaged, and the other damage isn't too severe, they would probably be a good bet.
We bought a van from copart that was a cat S that only had glass damage (vandalised) , the windscreen is a structural piece so assumed that's why it was an S, obviously the screen on an I3 is not structural or the assessor didnt have a clue?
Cracking car & great to see an EV in your challenge. There’s really no problem putting in your workshop, don’t listen to the gloom & doom merchants. I train ppl how to keep themselves safe while working on EVs. If you need to isolate the HV system, the disconnect plug is under the Velcro cover where you found the coolant reservoir. It’s the green plug with the red tab. It’s only a 12v plug.
If the battery itself had been hit then there might possibly have been a risk of fire which could happen days/weeks later so it is always something to think about if you are going to get more EVs on the channel.
I was screaming 'press the brake and start button again' when you were trying! Haha. I could see the display didnt say 'READY'.
Glad you got it going. Another great vid, love the variety.
Chris when he floors it!🤣 lovely car when it's done 👍🏻
I always wondered if you could lift an electric car with a fork lift when the batteries were located in the floor of the car.Copart answered that one..Nice to see Biggles enjoying himself
To be fair, would Copart actually care?
I repaired one of these last year, it was forklifted on there weren't any problems 👍
My Model S was forklifted, the pack is very strong.

These are great little cars. We have had one for 5 years. It’s 10 years old now. No drop in range and cheapest car to run I’ve ever owned.
How many miles do you get on a full charge easy driving please?
Great little cars compared to walking yes😂
We’re a family of (different) EVs. We love them. One of us has a BMW id3. It’s great. Glad you and Chris are enjoying it - loved Chris’s reaction to driving it.😊
How much of your life have you wasted waiting for them to charge? 😂
@@tonygarlingewarren7456 not much I’m always in bed asleep. Only ever charged away from home twice. How much have your life have you wasted at petrol stations. 😜😜
To all those saying never charge an EV on an extension cord, you're generally right, however it is possible if you observe a few precautions. We charged our BMW i3s on a 10m extension for over two years without any issues at all, but we found that:
Shop-bought extension reels are no good, as the cable is too light and so would get too hot (even when fully rolled out). The manufacturers know this, and sensibly fit the reel with a thermal cutout, but 10A continuous is enough to trip the cutout after about 15 minutes. (The BMW granny charger is only 10A, not the full 13A possible, as BMW know that 13A continuous would overheat most domestic hardware)
The 13A rating of domestic hardware assumes short term usage, like a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner for 10 or 15 minutes (that's why ovens have a specific, higher-rated circuit - 2-3 hours of high-temp oven usage would overheat a 13A circuit).
To charge our EV, I bought 10M of heavy-duty cable (thick rubber insulation, rated to 750v & 20A) and a good quality plug and single fly socket. I made them up carefully, ensuring the connections were well-made, with maximum contact.
Before the first charging session, I opened the socket in the garage which we were using and checked it for good, well-made connections, and for tightness of those connections. I also confirmed that the plug-pins were well-gripped by the socket contacts (not sloppy through heavy usage).
During charging (not at the end, when the EV's charging rate has tapered off), I sometimes stopped the charge, and checked the extension and the chargers' plug-pins for overheating, but they were never more than 'quite warm to the touch' (ie: you could comfortably touch them for as long as you wanted). Also, the cable itself was always cold to the touch, as it was nowhere near its maximum rating.
If you understand what can happen with the wrong electrical hardware, and take steps to avoid those issues, you can charge an EV on a (suitable) extension perfectly safely. We recently got a 7kW charger fitted as part of a home upgrade, but we keep the self-made extension with the granny charger for emergencies.
I've replayed the "WoooHooo" bits five times and it still makes me laugh
I see you got some firewood 😂😂😂
A customer had one he said I will take you up the road and I was very surprised how quick it was looking forward to seeing how much you paid for it I laughed my head off when Chris screamed 👍😂
Hahahaaaa!!!! Can’t believe Chris in those goggles and that laugh of his. Like a little kid. Glad it’s running though and not much damage which is great for you lads
Just logged on to your poplar channel and twigged this is an electric vehicle. Good to see you guys are branching out even though it had Rob stumped at first when it wooden go, the releaf in his voice! You’ll soon get to the root of the other problems, they seem elementree. It's already looking better after you spruced it up.
Somewhere near that EV battery will be a disable switch or a plug Once pulled it becomes as safe to work on as a standard ICE car allowing you to use dent pullers if required Big gamble there but looks as though its all good Chris as Captain Biggle with the flying goggles was pretty funny As for the cleaning nothing wrong with that to give a proper assessment of the damage to be repaired
great fun -- always something new - you really have moved along in the last couple of years -- electric vehicle, who have have thought !!
My mate worked for BMW and had one. I got to use it time to time. I liked it and I'm a petrol head.
Great to see an EV on the channel. I don't get the hate TBH, although I appreciate folks don't like feeling they are being forced into them. I have two 90's diesels on the drive and they are keepers, but I'll have an EV as soon as I can afford one with the range I need. Great to see you had some luck with this one. Keep at it!
Great to see an electric car on the channel - whole new set of challenges
Not bothered about the condition of the car, Chris with his goggles means this video is a winner 😂
can't believe that little car is that quick especially for a electric car but atleast Chris had fun in it and put a massive smile on he's face lol can't wait to see what's next on the channel 👍👍👍💯💯💯
That was brilliant. Don't think Roy Chubby Brown was expecting that BMW to take off quite as fast as it did!
Love it .. Chris in those goggles, cracking little car. Electric or not, you've got to love your hard work. Well done lads
That was just amazing Lads! If you're going to keep playing with these "milk floats" You'll need to get a charging point fitted to the workshop!🤣
Maybe team up with one of the YT sparks and do a crossover?
The giggles got me going to ! if it makes you smile then it’s a winner 👍
Brilliant result again guys! No doubt a huge financial gamble but worth it to see Chris having so much fun! Sure it will be another winner when the numbers are crunched 👍👍
Brilliant video I couldn't stop laughing when you figured out how to get it going and looks like you had a result with this one 😂😂😂
Great Video, can’t believe they wrote the car off, no wonder insurance premiums are doubling up.
Great to see a ev on the channel 😎
That was a highly entertaining video, my wife & I were in tears of laughter when you were both playing with the leccy car. Brilliant, keep up the good work guys.
You are gonna get haters, but theres gonna be more E.V.s on the road, good for you guys to try something different
Nice 1 guys 👏
Haters are just sad people that don't like change, they'll be left behind in the coming years. Haters also help with the channels algorithm, too 😂
@@leedsinshetland a good point
@@leedsinshetland”haters” are people who just want to be able to drive what they want without being taxed out of their choice of car. EVs aren’t what was promised of them, and remove the government subsidies and incentives they are way too expensive for what they are. Still good to see them being rebuilt, but don’t get it twisted not everyone thinks the government should decide for the people (you know, democratically) especially when it benefits them financially.
EVs are not that scary it's as hard to start an EV fire as an ice car fire the battery pack is so well protected
Cannot believe is a copart car due to what’s has turned out to be a little more than a windscreen and some scratches ,well done another peace of a buy well done
20k porsche that just needs a respray in copart for 10k atm, some stuff does qualify as scrap with very kittle work its shocking sometimes but great for us salvagers.....
Chris' giggles were hilarious. Great to see him having such fun!
I recently did a video myself at a tesla dealership, and went for a test drive, they told me before going for a drive to jsut face the camera on our self and hang on. I was screaming jsut like Chris was right after acceleration. Wow !!!! I know exactly what he was feeling. I got out the car after a 12 minute drive shaking from the sheer speed the electric cars have.
Great video Rob and Chris 😊!! Easy repair for you 👍 bonus point the charging cables were in the boot.
People are so wary about electric vehicles!!! I have a Citroen Ami electric ⚡️ and a few Sinclair C5s
I very rarely comment but this was class. I loved the test drive, brill😂
Glad you enjoyed it 👍this is your first comment 👌
Glad it made you fall in love with EVs. Many people dismiss them but the i3s in particular are very nice funky cars.
Hi lads, what fun! Not a great lover of milk floats, but it may have changed my mind for city car. Thanks! Steve
The first ev on the channel keep them coming Rob and Chris 😊
I think it's interesting when you take on different projects, nothing puts you off really.
Also out of interest do you ever add pictures of your repairs to car vertical?
I’m a massive petrol head but we bought a 2019 i3S in 2020 as a runaround and totally love the thing ,
Drop it into sport mode Rob, we did a 0-60 against my Bentley super sport it kept up with it right to 60mph
Me too, we still have a classic V8 and my wife's Audi TT, but my 2020 i3s, bought in 2021 is the most mad/fun car we've owned.
Chris and those goggles made me chuckle! Love it
Chris when he floor it, priceless 😂good work fellas! I still cannot believe the insurance don't repair such minor damage! crazy!
Probably down to parts supply at the time of the accident as Rob said it had been stored for quite some time
OMG!! You should not plug the granny charger into a domestic extension lead! They’re not designed to handle the power draw over long periods…
I had one for 4 years great car, loads of character
I'm amazed how easy cars get written off!
Awesome car Guys
- they're an absolute hoot to drive!
My missus has the same car unbelievable torque , but really teaches you to moderate your driving to get long distances without charging such a pity they are not made anymore by far the best electric car in its class, best of luck with the repair.
Great little electric car! It even has a cushion to change the baby’s diaper!
Hi chris , rob starting off 2024 as you did 2023 with the simplest of repairs .....ever exciting your videos....rob the excitement in your voice is like a kid with a new toy at xmas ....brilliant 😂
People can say what they want about the i3. But it is without a quesotion the one of best "modern" EVs. It's amazingly light also comapared to the crap they proudce today. 1345kg is 900kg lighter than for example the i4.. Also since it has samsug sdi cells with a good bms you won't really se any degradation
Except when you come to trade it in.
@@zog97xy compared to what. yes the crazy "covid" prices are over, but so are they for combustion engine cars also. Prices on high end cars except for excotics have allways come down hard. Buy a high spec 1,3. 5 or 7 series and you will loose crazy amount of money until they are down to a specific amount and they stabalize. allways been allways will be. It is'nt any harder to work on a battery pack than a combustion engine. Cleaner hands and at the moment there is a gold mine for those that know how to do it. a battery module is not even that expensive.
Great fun cars well worth the chance you took love these cars 👍🏻
you are a pair of lucky gits , if you fell in the river you would come out with a trout in your pocket well done and good luck.
Well, that's a bit of bunce! Such a sensible buy for your first EV - superficial damage and nothing to do with the scary drive train. Thought it might need some roof work, but you've bought a blinder - you'll turn it around double quick! Well happy for you, fellas!
I have owed my EV now for just over 12 months and before I bought it I was very on the fence.
Having run mine for 15000 miles I can honestly say that I am converted.
Zero road Tax, Cheap charging at home, almost no servicing costs and the range is not an issue because after 3 hours driving you should take a break anyway so can give a 30 min charge and off I go for another 200+ miles.
If you work it out, it costs me on average less than 2p a mile to run it.
People that hate them probably have never driven 1 or can't afford one.
Your BMW i3 looks like its going to be a great car and I can see Chris wanting to keep it as a run about.
Great to see His face when he blasted it down His driveway.
Can't wait to see the results and fingers crossed for you that those fault codes dissappear when the car is complete.
Be careful using extention cables with the 13a 'granny' charger!
It's OK if you completely unroll the extension cable but if you don't and leave it overnight it'll warm up and probably melt. Been there done it. Drawing 10A through a coiled up extension will destroy the wire and probably trip the fuse. Nothing to do with it being an EV, just physics.
If you need to use an extension cable best to build your own, a lot (most ?) that you might buy are not rated for 10 amps continuous for 20+ hrs at a time. As stated - cable capacity is a lot lower while still rolled up so don't use it for EV charging unless unrolled.
@@oldgitflying It's amazing how many people don't read the instructions on an extension lead - I remember one going up during a performance of a play when I was at school: ironically, "The Crucible"...
@@HowardLeVert😂😂😂😂😂
The problem with you two is that you get so enthusiastic about the cars you repair that after each video I realise I definitely need one! This week it's gonna be a BMW I3S. 🤗
Can't believe they left the tree and all the branches Rob! Cleaned up lovely though.
Top content chaps! 👍
I agree with Rob: It's "proper quirky and cool"!! LOVE IT!! (BTW, maybe I missed it, but what is the issue with the headliner?? Manageable?). Sorry this one won't be on 3 or 4 episodes --- can you stretch it out??!! :))
That was so funny hearing Chris screaming and I think from Rob's voice they're both really pleased with the damage well done guy's looking forward to seeing the next one 👍
I have a 2017 non-S model. These are both great cars and horribly flawed. But they are so much fun to drive!
great interesting video for a petrol head like me
A new adventure fellas ..... as much as I don’t like EV’s I’m looking fwd to seeing “ the Red Baron “ test drive it 😂
And let's not forget that BMW started life making aeroplane engines...
Good to see you branching out in the electric side of motors, I look forward to seeing more and no doubt with a bit of training you will both be rooted in the Ev side of things :)
You boys crack me up! Like kids with a new toy 😂😂
Can’t believe it was written off for that damage 🤔
Be careful using the charger on an extension lead, a great little car
Two things there - one, don't buy cheap extension leads (I prefer to make my own) and if you have one on a reel, unreel it FULLY before using it. The same would apply if you were using a three-bar electric fire, of course.
What a result! Great buying there Rob. I did like Chris's face and hearing him when he drove it :-)
fantastic purchase and it looks a straight forward fix , fun little car these are, 0-62 in under 7 seconds you should have no probs selling it on..
Milk Float
Yeah, a milk float with a 6.3 sec 0-60 time...
you know when a tessla is fully charged.....you can see the flames for miles
The A team. I've been here since day dot and could not be happier for Salvage rebuilds success.. I'm enjoying the higher value rebuilds.
What an absolute touch. A windscreen, bit of trim and some paint and hearing wing commander Chris thinking he was taking off. He was just missing the old pilots scarf sticking out.

Shocking damage! I see what you did there.
The exhaust on these sound amazing
Bless him he does get excited
Great video chaps
Yous should definitely look into getting trained on EVs, it would open up a whole new world of vehicles to work on.
As you say, they're just a normal car but with a motor and a battery
Best time of the weekend… SRUK time :)
New work clothes revealed. Jeans tee shirt work boots. Chris, logos on all work wear. Smart suit, casual smart shoes ,white shirt. For rob. Job sorted.👍
NO ELECTRIC CARS….EVER!
Hydrogen Engines
Would a horse and cart make you happier? 🤷♂️
If I was offered an EV tomorrow for nothing I’d kindly decline.
Try one. You might be surprised.
Idiot
So you wouldn't have a free car that you could easily sell for a bag of cash.
that would be silly really , by 2050 you probably will have trouble buying petrol
Love mine.. got my electric bill in a few days ago, cost me under £20 to “fuel” it for a month! Almost 1000 miles driving for under £20… let that sink in a moment!
You can get some glass safety film- wide as a roll of wallpaper. Sti the debris falling in
Beautiful opening scene.
WHY OH WHY did you buy an EV even dealers dont want them back in px sorry guys hope you make a few quid of it but it will be a hard fight and im an avid follower of you guys not a nae sayer
To be fair you have no idea what we paid for it 🤷♂️ 👍
Good lord the clueless are out in force on this one 🤦🏻
Nobody wants electric cars Rob.
We’ll soon find out .
Depends on the price paid .
They all seem to be making blood at copart
Tell that to the car industry
They certainly do.
When Chris let it go and he was whooping and screeching, seriously guys I was laughing out loud. What an absolutely belting thing that is! Can't wait for the next video on it.
Man, you guys are the only gang who would convince me to buy an EV. XD can we get mighty car mods up here with you & Mike Brewer or Mr Chinna to make a super video???
