I really like this pattern. It is loose but flattering with the pleats. I lower the neckline and use bias binding rather than facing and have made a few, also winter dresses and pinafores.
I've made this a few times too. Great pattern but definitely lowered the neck line like you did. A bias binding gets rid of the ugly back facing. Next time I plan to lengthen the bodice to align with my waist.
