The perfect jacket makes you feel more confident, stylish & fabulous.
🍉 Hi, I'm Fin. Welcome. I'm on a quest to make the perfect jacket.
I mostly make simple dresses, if you're a beginner, they are quite manageable. Jackets do require a higher level of skill and do take much longer to make, but they're totally worth it!
Topics - Sewing, style, Chanel-style jackets, beading & embellishment, fabric hauls, fabric store visits, designer fashion.

This episode is snippets from this week. I made some jackets and lots of plans. I'm looking forward to doing loads of beading during Vlogmas, so I had to make the jackets first.

fabric haul 👗 cute vintage prints
Переглядів 1564 години тому
It's time for another fabric haul! I've been really good and haven't bought any fabric since the middle of the year. I've just been using up the fabrics I have in my fabric stash but these vintage holiday prints were just too adorable. I had to get a few of them. Happy sewing!
beading the Pineapple jacket 🍍 S9124
Переглядів 4219 годин тому
Last episode I made this jacket out of golden satin fabric. This episode I bead it. Once all the base layer of beading is done I decide that it looks sort of like a pineapple and add some pineapple beads to the back. I love them! 🥰🎨🍍🧥🍍 Happy sewing!
I made a golden satin jacket! S9124

I made another version of the Simplicity S9124 jacket. The Daisy jacket was too baggy. The Lobster jacket was too cropped. This one is almost just right. I really like the look of the satin fabric. It frays a lot when you are working with it, which is annoying, but now that it's done I quite like it. Happy sewing!

I must say, you make the most beautiful jackets and dresses❤️ But can you please show pictures of you wearing them. I dont think the mannequins make them justice.
I really love the two with hollys on them
Thanks! 🥰🎄♥️
Stunning!
Thank you! 🥰♥️👗
Looks like a golden garden. 🏵🏵🏵🏵 It reminds me of when I first started beading in the 90's.
Thanks
I love Joanne’s which is way too close to my house. (5 minutes) I love the hedgehog Christmas print.
Oh no, that's far too close for the fabric store! I would take my daily walk in there every single day! lol 🥰🎨 Yep, that hedgehog print is adorable!! 💕🦔🌸
I feel like I’m not getting something here…I love your commentary and observations, but in regards to the fashion, and the comparison to ‘similar styles’ and using your own examples…that’s where you start to lose me. Madonna in the hotel room, the iconic jacket, the suitcase, that STYLE just has such a distinct aesthetic to it; something dark, mysterious, a bit punk, and in the hotel room it’s like going back in time where there’s asbestos in that damask wallpaper, and everything is so camp…Hollywood decadence and seedy magic clubs… And your comparison is kinda like a JoAnn fabrics, cotton, quilting floral print that looks like it would be more comfortable on bedding from a farmhouse in Montana… This was also the 80’s, with all the tulle and sequins, and SYNTHETIC fabric, and shiny silvers, and green and black zebra stripes, because the 80’s just screamed, “I want everything, and in all colors, and shiny, and sloppy, and coloring outside the lines, and being WILD! And in Neon, of course.” I’m really loving your video- it’s fun and nostalgic! But the 100% cotton, safe, repeating, farmhouse wallpaper patterns…I’m not getting it. Where is the plastic, tinfoil, and skulls!?
Yeah…like what does the color of New York taxicabs have to do with the movie’s fashion? Taxicabs are that same color in the 70s, 90s, etc…
That was a fun fabric haul. The amaryllis fabric is gorgeous! Joanne’s does have cute holiday fabrics. I’m actually headed there later this afternoon and will spend too much time and money there lol. So many deals it’s hard to resist. Love Pride and Prejudice and I still like to reread it. One of my favorite books along with Emma. Happy beading and sewing! 🧥📿🎄❄️🎨💖
Thank you! Have fun at the fabric store! I know what you mean. All those fabrics! So many possibilities!! Very tempting. 🥰🎨👗🪡🧥
I want see the jacket on you, please. 11/25/24
Thank you, Fin! Luscious, juicy colors! 🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍🎉
Thanks, Robyn! 🍍🎨🍍🎨🍍 I had fun with this one! 🥰
your voice is very relaxing and cute! I really like the beads on the back, they just give it a fun vibe. Good job ❤
Thanks
The beading is incredible!! Absolutely beautiful!!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! It was fun to do! 🎨🥰🍍🧥🍍
I love your accent, as well as this jacket :)
Its very pretty!!
Thank you! Cheers! 🎨🥰🧥
So beautiful ✨🦋 what was the McCall s pattern ref ?
The bodice is made from M7948. The skirt is just 3 long strips of fabric pleated down.
Absolutely stunning✨🦋 love the colors and pattern 🌻
Thank you! Cheers!
The jacket is so pretty, would look adorable with straight leg jeans and a nice heel with a cute cami . Love it ✨🌻🦋
Thanks!! 🌸🧥💕
So gorgeous ❣️❣️ you have it a totally beautiful look✨🌻🦋
Thank you so much!!
Can I ask the best place to buy tweed fabrics for suiting and jackets?
Mood Fabrics NYC and Linton Tweeds UK. Both deliver all over.
It’s lovely 🥰 ✨🪡🧵
Thanks! 🥰✨🎨
I really like the Empire dress and I am going to make one but I am looking for a pattern at the moment.
S9702 from simplicity.com (or eBay or JoAnn's) is a really popular empire line dress
Pattern for the red dress?
The bodice for the red dress is Butterick B6677. The skirt is just 3 long strips of fabric pleated down.
@@PerfectJacket Is there a free online pattern that you know of?
moodfabrics.com has a sewciety section full of free patterns.
Very pretty dresses, is there a free pattern for the empire dress?
Mood Fabrics have loads of free downloadable patterns.
Love the beautiful gold jacket. Can’t wait to see it beaded around the cute goldfish! Happy sewing! 🧥💖📿⭐️
Thank you! 😊 Yep, I'm definitely looking forward to the beading for this one! ✨🪡🥰🎨🧥
Yes!!! The golden koi fish jacket! I was wondering when you were going to use the material. 🥰👍
It's so lovely now it's made up but the edges did fray quite a bit as I was making it. 🎨🥰🧥✨🪡
@@PerfectJacket I always surge the edges of material like that. I made a metallic jacquard skirt and serged the edges because otherwise the whole thing would have just unraveled to the floor in a pile of thread 😂🫣
Are saling tham I like more red one
Yes! Maybe a touch of obsidian
Gorgeous 👏🏽
Thank you! 😊🎨🦞🧥🦞
Thank you, Fin! Creative Chaos! ❤🎉 Amazing Alive Lobster Jacket!❤
Thank you. 🦞🥰🦞🧥 Yes! Equal parts chaos and creativity! 🎨
The lobster jacket is gorgeous! Yay, it’s finished! I love the 3 D effect of the beads. It looks nice with the lobsters still visible. Great job arranging the beads. Enjoyed looking at all the beautiful fabrics and hearing the plans. Looks like so much fun! Happy sewing and beading! 🦞🧥📿🎨💖
Yay! Thank you! 🦞🥰🦞 I'm so glad it's finally finished. 🥰🎨
Thanks for this very informative video. That’s good advice to take your time planning your jacket and not rush it. I love planning and deciding which beads I want to use for the jacket. It’s a fun creative process. Thanks for sharing this video. 😀🧥🎨📿💖
Oooh, me too. I love coming up with a few different beading options and then deciding which one I like the most. 🥰🎨 Glad it was helpful! 🧥🌸♥️
Just by listening, I can not tell which darts and seams are being used (and where) to make the back & bust adjustments you’re talking about. Is there another video?
Thanks. If you're making your first jacket, something with less pattern pieces might be easier, like Burda 6123. Once you wear one jacket you've made, you get a much better idea of what you would like to change. The V7975 is a great pattern but it is a little advanced. As soon as you make the mock-up and put it on, if the back is too tight, you will feel it immediately. You slit the seam where it's too tight and pin it back together so that it fits, then adjust the pattern. Once you've fixed one problem, then you can go onto the next. The order is sleeves, then back, then shoulders, then bust, then hips. If you do it in the wrong order, you'll get stuck in a loop of having to go back and re-adjust each thing.
@ Understood!
soooo, I had a very dull beige little jacket and I bought some star shaped beads. I mixed them with regular gold and silver beads and made something like a stellar jacket beading, constellations in the night sky, it turned out great...i looove it sooo much. Thank you for an inspiration. much love to you 🤎🤎🤎
That's so cool! It sounds awesome. 🥰 ✨ There's something so fabulous about wearing a totally unique garment that you created yourself. ✨🧥🪡
It’s a gorgeous tweed! I haven’t found any that I particularly care to wear as far as tweeds though. Beautiful little jacket🪡✨🦋
Thank you! 😊 Mood Fabrics has some tweeds called the Newcastle collection. Some are lovely.
Thank you, Fin, for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰🎨🌸🧥♥️
Thanjs for tgd vudro. Why does the pattern require 4 cuts of the front panels (2×2) and just one of the back panel. Can't figure it out ...
The princess seams at the front help the front pieces go around your bust. Most jacket patterns also have 3 pieces on the back to shape the jacket around your shoulder blades but this jacket just has more ease on the back. I prefer V7975, but this pattern is easier to sew together. Burda 6123 is also a simple to sew together jacket pattern.
Wonderful That is a Ghana print
Thank you. 🥰🎨
Thanks! Master peace dresses! Beautiful!
Besutiful beading❤i love those sleeves 😊
Thank you! 😊
Thank you, Fin! I do enjoy sorting through my patterns!
Me too! But I did feel a bit guilty about how many I haven't used yet. I'll get there eventually. 🎨🥰🧥👗🪡
Thank you, Fin! Beads!❤
Thanks, Robyn. ♥️🎨🥰🪡♥️
ok, but where do you get those beads and how much time do you spend daily on those jackets? I love your collection :)
Everyone has different hobbies. I've embellished (embroidery and beading) and collected beads most of my life. I think it's fun. I don't mind that it takes time.
@PerfectJacket I'm so jealous about your collection 🤯 sorry if my question came of little weird, I was just wondering because I spend a lot of time in my day trying to do something and thinking to myself is it too much 🤔😁 But I suppose you are right, I don't mind either 🥰♥️
@@m.a.r.e.finding beads is less of a challenge than figuring out how to incorporate them, for me. I am much better at following an idea than figuring out how to make it look good. I did find this really interesting because looking at those large flat sequins I would have zero idea what to do with, but she came up with such creative ways to use ‘em. My favorite bead store used to be in San Diego but they went out of business about ten years ago. It had beads and jewelry, most,y silver and semi precious stones. It was huge, and I could spend all day there.
So much fun looking at all your beautiful beads. Lovey collection of beads. Thanks for sharing. 😀📿🧥🎨💖
Thanks so much 😊 It's always fun to get out some beads and dream about all the lovely garments you could make with them! 🎨♥️🥰🪡🌸
Do you ever just run your fingers through the piles and listen to the sounds they make? I find the tinkle of glass beads to be soothing and the feel so cool and smooth and comforting. 😁
I love picking up the glass beads and feeling the weight of them. And wearing a beaded jacket that is so much heavier than a regular jacket because of all the work you put into the beading.
@@PerfectJacket I thrifted a purple-black-white houndstooth tweed cropped jacket. I’m thinking of beading it now because of watching all your videos. I think I need to order some sequins and beads and get started with a design idea. I embroidery so maybe some 3D embroidered fabric flowers with beaded centers and stuff. 🤔 So many ideas.
Oooh. That sounds lovely! lol You always need to order more sequins and beads! Everyone does! I sometimes wear my jackets for a month or two before I decide exactly what embellishment they need.
Ohhhh, love exploring a good bead collection! 🥰❤
Me too!! It's so interesting seeing all the different types people have collected over the years! 🎨🥰🪡♥️
OK, Totally jealous of your pattern collection. I would love to see your jackets on display in a fashion museum. I'd happily travel interstate to see them in person. 😊😊 On another note - I was wondering how you clean your jackets (assuming that you wear them). I like your method of using a strong stabilising layer but I did wonder if dry cleaning fluid might melt it. (Do you use dress shields under the arms when you wear them? )
Making casual jackets in denim. Duffle style loop and toggle fastenings work well. (Plastic) toggles are available in colours - use blue if you don't want them to be too obvious. Or frog fastenings (stitched down intricately looped braid or cord). To jazz up plain buttons - experiment by adding smaller buttons on top, perhaps turned upside down if they have holes rather than a stemmed shank underneath. Use different colours. E❤
I always love to look at patterns! Enjoyed looking at your patterns and plans. I really need to do that with my patterns too and especially organize them better. Always so much fun! Thanks for sharing. 😀🧥🎨💖
Thank you! 😊 There's always so many cool patterns and so little time to try them all! 🎨🥰🧥🌸🪡
I had such a struggle with that Vogue cropped swing jacket. It looked horrible on me, perhaps my shoulders were too broad for it. 🤔Anyway, happy sewing!!!😊
There's an original vintage swing coat pattern, that's extremely similar. I think they cropped it down to make a jacket pattern. I suspect you really need the weight of a full-length coat for that one to look fabulous.
@@PerfectJacket Oh thank you!!! 🙌🏻🙏🏻❤️
Oh stunning fabric 😍 would totally wear a matching skirt jacket combo of it
Great idea!!
