The Best Woodford Reserve Bourbon Ever? Woodford Reserve Historic Entry Proof Review!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- With the last couple Woodford Reserve Master's Collection bourbons being what we consider "sub par" we were hesitant to even try and get the historic entry proof bourbon from Woodford Reserve. With the help of some friends who donated this bottle to us we get to see how this year's release comes out. Is it amazing or another flop?

It’s the “Midwest Goodbye” (or here in MN, the “Minnesota Goodbye”). It’s where you slap your knee and say “Welp, about time we head out…” and then proceed to say goodbye 15 more times over the course of the next 90 minutes at different locations on the way to the car. (Living room, entryway, porch, car, etc.) 🤣 Great long pour and even better review!
Guys, don't ever change. You guys crack me up. Thank you for your content, super appreciated.
Cracked my bottle last night and I was just like you guys and loved it! It is so drinkable and unique.
I have had the Woodford reserve single barrel at 136 proof...it is amazingly great!... Pumped from a single barrel cause one of my friends was in the alcohol/distribution business....best Woodford ever!!
You guys are becoming my favorite whiskey channel. Thanks.
I saw that Bardstown Origin Series Rye in the background…looking forward to that review.
Glad Woodford is making a expression worth hunting. Cheers Fella's.
4:35 Ah yes you are thinking of the Midwest Goodbye.
Glad to hear they got back to some quality experimental bottles.
I believe that's the southern goodbye, where you say you're "Thinking about heading out" after lunch and end up staying for dinner.
Great review. I had just picked up this bottle a couple of weeks ago without really knowing what to expect. I'm looking forward to opening it with some friends one night soon now.
"this whiskey literally turned me into a frickin horse" 😂😂
My favorite Woodford Reserve Master's Collection was the Maple Wood Finished bourbon many years ago. If only I had procured more bottles of that stuff when it came out that year.
Been setting on my bar since release and the Sonoma that just released collections 🎉 cheers
FYI: Lots of BF products switching to 700ml this year. That’s the standard outside of the US so they’re aligning with the worldwide bottle size.
I'd be very curious to try it next to Michters Bourbon. Very similar proof. Very similar barrel entry proof. Both heat cycling warehouses. Brown Forman was the contract distiller for Michters for a long time as well.
The only two things that could really be different are the ages and how much of the pot still of Woodford is in the blend.
And the woodford is triple the price. Ive heard from a few people they are extremely similar
Have this bottle and love it but didn't love the price...was 124.99 + tax. Straight bananas oak and vanilla/caramel...has been hard to not finish the bottle
Have you tried the woodford reserve double oak coco ? Unbelievable ! Sooo good
Drove to the distillery for this one shortly before I moved away 😢, glad it’s getting good reviews have yet to open
Oh snap, Dan going after the WTWT long pour record...
A midwest goodbye is where you say you're gonna head out then your conversation just moves to the front porch and then by the time you actually leave it's like 3 hours later
Well, I guess I know what I’m revisiting tomorrow night
I didn't hear you guys mention Woodford Master's Batch 16 - Very Fine Rare, which was the first club bottle. It's my favorite Woodford's Master's Collection ever, including Brandy finish which I do still have. We need to get you guys a sample of the Very Fine Rare if you don't remember it!
You are describing the Midwest Good-bye, in which you say that you're leaving, and then talk in the hallway for a half hour after putting on your shoes and coat.
Interesting to see how this compares (which is the better buy/value) with Makers Mark's BEP 2023 since that's also their version of the "historic entry proof" at 110, yet its half the price of the Woodford at $70
Haven't seen the woodford around us yet
Binny's in Joliet IL (Chicago) had on the shelf this past weekend
These are sitting on many shelves near me. And 700ml for $130 is the reason why.
$199 near me
@@callen1964 ouch!
I just got a bottle. Thanks for the review!
Makers did a thing a while back with the different entry proofs like you were talking about
Everything that is also exported will be moving to 700ml. It will become the standard across the board before very long.
boooo
Another travel exclusive worth checking out is the WR Double XO. Heavy toasted cask and an XO Cognac cask blend. A lot like Double Oaked, with a grapey brandy finish.
I just picked this up at a duty free. Haven't cracked it yet
Yea that was the one that I just got from a buddy. It's okay, I think that is one that is really hurt at the 90.4 proof
I get a really distinct sweet cornbread note on the nose that I absolutely love. I compared it to standard Woodford Reserve 90 proof and it aomplified all the good qualities of that. Is it worth $140? Not really. Am i bummed I bought it? No because its fun to compare to other Woodford offerings imo
Love the 2022 Batch proof I have also!
This stuff is amazing, needing to find a 2nd bottle for backup before I continue to have anymore!
Why haven't you started an infinity bottle? Would be cool to see you track what all is in it and rate it against the best bottles of the year at the end of the year.
Gotta try the maple wood finish! Or seasoned oak if you come across it
Stallions typically have long manes, so there is that.
Thanks! I'm looking for this. I'd uploaded a video last week wanting a good BF pour.
The Very Fine and Rare from a couple years ago was fantastic.
yea we completely forgot about that one
The opposite of an Irish goodbye is a Midwest goodbye
I do believe that would be the “MidWest Goodbye” where you just never leave
Correct
Hey Buddy!
@@ericdemerath3182 Eric?! It’s been so long!
We're here to just reconnect old friends
@@BourbonJunkies 🥰
That, my friends, is called a "Midwest Goodbye". That you know it exists kind of doubles down on that fact. 😀
Just found a bottle of this, initially walking past it because I thought it was batch proof (which I already have). For $157, I had to try it. I like it, but like the batch proof - I wouldn’t buy it again.
The very fine rare was good too
Are you guys going to review the Sonoma?
I never had much interest in ADHD Fishing, but ADHD Powerlifting Hello My Name is Dan sounds like it would be amazing.
UFR Long Pour!! That may be Boone and Crockett worthy!!
Sounds like a good one. Agree the chocolate malted rye sucked
Thanks for the review. I just picked one of these up during last weeks VA ABC allocated drop.
What's the cat's name?
Sounds good but the same price as batch proof is what I struggle with.
If only there was a way to compare this to regular barrel entry proof at 90.4!!!! How can we make this happen?? Where on earth can you find “regular” woodford??
I think you guys forgot about the Woodford MC Very Fine Rare from 2020. How does this compare to the Historic Entry Proof for you Junkies?
we did forget about the VFR, probably would give the edge to the entry proof. It honestly is really good
We went to the moon. That's cute.
Always looking for. Woodford Masters Cut, but never find one in NC . ABC sucks
Best long pour of all time.
If you don't want the Chocolate Malted, I'll take it 😅
First, I love your guys Chanel. But this is the first time I totally disagree about the chocolate malted rye. It make the best Old Fashioned ever. I have masters collection 11 to 18.
"I am the Stallion Mang"
Y'all try the Blood Oath? They are a "lower" (under 100) proof, and really tasty.
Id take a blood oath instead 10 times out of 10
Yea we've been pretty big fans of most of the releases
Opposite of an Irish goodbye is called the Midwest goodbye, seen a comedian do a whole bit about it… isn’t Michigan like the top of the Midwest??
100% we should know that
Price is questionable near me
I mean id say the msrp alone is extremely questionable
Only place I've seen it has it for $200. I saw that price and 90 proof and passed.
Have you guys tried tincup 14er? @ ~$70 I’m curious which one of these you’d prefer. Battle of the best low proofs!
Never had the 14, we have the 10 and it's pretty good.
I believe Tincup 10 year is much better then the 14.
Tin Cup 10 is better than 14
@@Jared40 Really? Did you try them side by side? When I did I preferred the 14 year
@@PlumbNumbs ya I prefer 10 year just a bit more. I live in Colorado and got it last December. Cool presentation and I like both but I prefer 10 year on my palate more.
Ive had a couple people tell me its basically just a michters small batch lol. Not sure why these are over $60. Glad you guys like it but i passed on them the 3 times i saw em. Also the never leaving thing is called a midwest goodbye
For sure has more going on than small batch and I think it still drinks very Woodford like in the profile. Shame it's $130 though
@@BourbonJunkies i havent had it so i cant actually say taste wise. Ive just been told that by 4 different people. The price tag and the lack of transparency are really the issue here.
2020 was the Masters Collection Very Fine Rare. Dan liked it. Sean didn't. I was with Sean on that one. The batch proofs have been great lately, but the price point has me crying. At least they stay on shelves for a day or two. Stagg / SJR's are gone in hours.
Sadly, I had this bottle, and my buddy needed a nice bourbon for a friend, so I gave it to him.
Honestly i wouldnt feel too bad about that if you got your money back
@@LeatherDaddy97, I did. I am usually on the fence about Woodford MC releases apart from Batch Proof. It does make a nice gift.
Just saw the historic masters collection for 300 dollars. Is it worth it? I live in Kansas.
No it is not
@@BourbonJunkies thank you very much
treads back, is that you?
A stallion is just an unaltered male horse... Congrats on not being neutered.
Pinpoint Accuracy!!!
Got lucky and picked this bottle up 2 weeks ago at a store that only received 3 bottles. Have not cracked it open yet. 🥃
Id be interested to hear what you think
You gotta retire from long pouring, Dan. Go out on top.
I wish he would
I hate to yell ya Michiganders but the opposite of a Irish goodbye is a Midwest goodbye.
If they are charging $150 and worthy of a Masters Collection ONLY because the entry proof was lower... just lower the entry proof on everything. I will never buy one of these. Pathetic cash grab.
Msrp is 130 but thats still insane imo
hi guys :)
I have this bottle and I thought it was a bit of a let down, like so many of the masters collections are. Some are amazing, this one is all nose and no trousers. It tastes like they had a winner and someone spilled too much water into the final product and were like “screw it, put it in the fancy 700 bottle and people will pay $125 for it”….and you know what they were right ha. I’d rather have another 1910 and 1920 for the price. It does smell like unicorn vagina so it has that going for it.
Plantain note? Oh dear.
Whatever filter you guys use to make it look like Dan can grow a beard and Sean look like a demigod, you should keep that. Use it more often.
Long pour for the ages.
…because we never went
Thought he was gonna deep throat the bottle 😅😅😅
The term you're looking for is midwestern good bye. You say good bye and talk for another 30 mins, then good bye again then more talking, repeat for the next 3 hours
Ugh....to me it tasted like a synthetic semi-chocolate chip made by a 3D printer.....
After that long pour the rest of the video didn't really matter.
Midwest goodbye
This is the lame BF distillery. Just review JD12. It's probably way better and half the price.
We don't have one at the moment lol
@@BourbonJunkies JUST DO IT!!!
That bottle is super crushable! #teamshookbgaming twitch.tv/theshookb
I think I might be ruined by higher proof stuff. This bottle did nothing for me at all. Really disappointed I spent $149 for this (Oregon).
Sample of one, I guess.
Nothing against the junkies but so far they are the only positive review of this that ive seen.
@@LeatherDaddy97 I wouldn't recommend it unless somebody is a real WR fan boy.
@@lonewanderer3603 those people are just gonna buy this and dont care about the price to begin with. Woodford has a weird cult around it
I did not enjoy this. It felt very young and malty.
nice long pour dan and the review was good was well. Cheers
Midwest goodbye
