I would definitely be disappointment if this under-performed. This game is a great example of a company taking criticism to heart and producing an amazing sequel. I felt like the first game had a lot of unrealized potential and this is a sequel that realizes it. Hopefully it performs up to expectations so we can get more similar content rather than "generic action RPG number 1,343".
The reason why it didn’t perform aswell as square enix expected is likely because they released it on multiple platforms, they made a crap load of copies for the ps5/ps4 version and didn’t make there money back considering the fact that they printed too many copies for multiplatform; especially when turn based JRPG’s don’t normally sell well on the PlayStation but usually end up doing well on the switch/Nintendo console. If they had just made it exclusive for the Nintendo switch then they might’ve been able to make all of there money back and then some; but printing it for the ps4 and ps5 definitely hindered its sales because not as many people purchased it on those consoles meaning that they didn’t make there money back.; especially after having printed so many copies for multiple platforms; there number one mistake was having it on multiple platform.
@@GodSlayer330 It is kind of funny to think that putting it on a bunch of platforms might have actually hurt it in some way. It does make sense though since I'm sure it cost more to port it to different platforms plus print physical copies. Not to mention higher expectations due to multiple platforms.
Actually I had no problems with the first game, I actually kinda like the first game better so far even though the servings game is still great. I've noticed a lot of people when it comes to the first game just go off of what reviewers and people in the comment section say instead of going off of their own personal opinion of the game that is if they played it. I had no problems with the story of the first game and how everybody had their own story whe some reviewers who barely even played the game complained about how everybody had their own story 🤣 if they actually played the game you'll see that was actually unique and haven't been done before and that it didn't matter
@@redcrimson1028 the main complaint of the first game is the fact that the stories didn’t intertwine and the fact that when you aquire party members they act as if they don’t exist; they don’t communicate with each other.
I'm going to make the argument that too many games came out just before Octopath came out. I picked up tales of Symphonia, Theatryhthm, and Metroid Prime Remastered. I nearly didn't have enough money to even think about octopath but I was able to pick it up.
I think timing hurt this game more than anything. FE Engage released the prior month, and there are more JRPGs being released every single month this year, so game saturation is high. Maybe some people aren't affected by inflation, but I have been, so that does determine what game I get. That said, I got OT II on release day, and do not regret my purchase.
Well, octopath 2 had a lot of competition around it, a lot of great games actually released before, during and after its initial release so I'm not surprised at the sales. The good thing is thr sales will pick up and eventually it'll hit a million sales.
Timing and promotion hurt this game the most. Not only did it come out at a busy time and had to compete with Metroid, Fire Emblem, Kirby, and Hogwarts Legacy, but it was barely promoted. People are saying they didn’t even know this came out, Square Enix can’t promote their games for doodoo unless it’s FF, and then they get mad when something as big as this does “okay” when it could’ve been so much bigger. A game that sells “okay” or “fine” is a “failure” to Square ://
As others have mentioned, it’s most likely due to a lack of advertisement, but I think there’s something else to it as well, I would like to make the argument that there’s too many games like Octopath traveler now. The market is over saturated and it’s no longer unique, so it’s big selling point no longer works so they don’t get the sales they’re expecting
I wouldn´t say there are too many. The artstyle just works and is timeless. Pretty sure those games will still look great in decades. And it´s not like we have that many games like that. I think a bigger factor are people were burned by Octo 1, since it´s story was a bit lacking, even with the grand post game finale. Or on the opposite end, people are hesitant to buy a game with a big "2" on it, because potential connections and missing context from the first game.
@@Beny763 Well yeah course the stylist is timeless. But there’s plenty of games that do this style now and underpass doesn’t really have much snow that makes it unique. Gameplay is solid and fun, two having interconnected stories (for the most part) is interesting, but the story as a whole is nothing to write home about. Nothing mention being released around the bigger, more well-known games
@@akari4657 I assume they mean the other HD 2D games. Live a Live, Triangle Strategy, and the Dragon Quest 3 Remake that´s kinda in a Limbo. I think a few indies also started to replicate the style
The only reason I haven’t started my copy is I am 3/4 way through the first game and want to complete those characters stories before I fall in love with a new cast. My main concern is that it makes Squeenix rethink their strategy on HD2D. I still want a new game in the Triangle Strategy franchise maybe a prequel where you pick a side for the Salt Wars and see if you can come out on top?
I think Octopath 2 will be more of a sleeper hit than an immediate smash. Unfortunately, Nintendo decided to randomly release Metroid Prime Remastered almost right on top of it which hasn't helped but I think as time goes on and the game gets discounts it'll sell better. People definitely seem aware of it and are interested.
@@NuiYabuko The release of Metroid Prime Remastered completely overshadowed Kirby as well. At least in the gaming circles I'm involved in. But yeah, Octopath 2 also had competition from Kirby as well, you're right.
I'd some of the sales down on consoles can also be caused by 2 being on steam on release this time around on top of what others have pointed out EDIT checked out steam sales this week the game has trended 54 world wide down 42 place from last week so it had initial popularity and then most ppl who didn't get it right away must be waiting on a sale
FOR REAL! Real… I put 70 hours into the first game, but didn’t finish it. TOO long, and too much required grinding. SO SO I feel like… I should go back and finish the first, before buying the second. NOT ALONE! I’m certain the adoption to completion ratio for the first game is poor. If you ran out of steam on the first game, you might push this game on the ‘wish list’.
It didn’t get the same advertising as the first one this game was basically shadow dropped compared to the first one which was even in the 2017 presentation
The game reviewed well, and the general response is that it's better than the first one. I think market is just saturated at this point. I loved the first game and want to get this one, but my back log is very high with switch and ps5 games. I'll definitely pick it up when it goes on sale, though because I do want the game.
Fair honestly it was kinda sandwiched between some pretty big releases namely dead space remake, hogwarts, and I believe re4 remake is releasing soon or has already. Also re releases persona 4 golden, persona 3 portable, and Metroid
I would rather see Pokémon games follow this beautiful artstyle. Rather than their derpy uninspired 3D models that they’ve been doing….. Just imagine how far and how great Pokémon games would be if they were owned by someone that actually cares about the franchise…? Instead of being owned by people didn’t get the bare minimum and relying on nostalgia for sales.
Man I thought I knew what love was with games, I thought I loved Octopath Traveler. Then I met Octopath Traveler Two. Now I know what it means to love a game. It's improved in ways I never would have expected. I'm truly enjoying everything with this game. For real it just makes me happy to play it. Plus kinda how each chapter is about an hour I know I can sit there for an hour play a chapter and then go about my day. The story is better than the last. I'm telling all my RPG fans about this game but they just don't seem to be buying it probably because of how it looks. Frankly I love the art style but others seem to want all these games to look like FF7 remake I guess. But I'm older at 34 so this might just make me feel nostalgic with how it looks. I give it a ten out of ten though.
Octopath 2 is great! I hope we see more gems like these from Square and less garbage like they AAA westernized games FF caught*. I wish for a Triangle Strategy 2! Triangle was such a underrated gem.
@@pedrogoncalves4585 some the recent FF are widely regarded as disappointments with a few gems like FF14. Even Yoshi P said that his intention with FF16 is bring back the expectation that a FF release will be a great game. So even the director of the current Ff realizes the drop in quality.
@@bobbyrivera2951 is it struggling though? I don’t think it is, even though it’s less than the OCT1. It’s still selling well I would say, and we don’t know how many people are buying it on other platforms. So, those sales will also be added. Nintendo didn’t market this one as much as they did with the first.
I made the mistake of buying digital copies for both ps5 and switch, the game looks and runs so much better on the ps5, it's so much smoother, the portability factor just isn't worth the sacrifice of performance
I really love the old school turn based RPG style. Hoping this isn’t a trend which would make Square and others re-think whether they want to put out these types of games. I picked up my physical copy last weekend. Maybe it’s just a slow starter and sales will pick up due to word of mouth.
Due to last year having so many JRPGs, this year I told myself I'd hold out for sales on certain ones. Hell even from last year I still never picked up Xenoblade 3. No sale.
This is also the third HD-2D game inside a year. Might be at it's saturation point there. They should limit them to one a year. Triangle Strategy performed well. It's been a downward slope since. I hope it gets a break until DQIII.
Yeah, I'm super pumped to start this game, but I agree with a lot of the other comments. There didn't seem to be any buzz around this game when it dropped. Even among content creators I listen to, I kept asking "Where is Octopath 2?" Reviews were mentioned as being good, but then everyone sort of moved on. Feels like a chicken/egg scenario. I'm not sure if there's no buzz because it isn't doing as well or if it isn't doing as well because there was no buzz. But these games deserve better, in my opinion.
That is most certainly not the main reason. It is probably a good reason for some, but most people just look at the game trailer and marketing materials, maybe a review on IGN or something and decide if they want the game, they don't go too deep.
@@LocrianDorian I mean I don’t know why you’re pretending people trust IGN more than their own experiences. If you don’t like the first game, chances are you are less likely to buy the second. Octopath 2 failed because the first one was already given a resounding “meh” outside of its artstyle and because the sequel didn’t seem to be a massive improvement over the first based on its marketing.
For me, I lost all interest when I found out that each path doesn't have the party respond to what is happening. Like they would just stand in the back without any input. As someone who likes party banter and character chemistry, I was pretty let down. Is this game like that too?
@@lambasted6886 No, this game has connected chapters that flesh out the story more. There is also a lot of party banter just like in the first game. The story is there for the people who want to engage with it.
Yea its gonna be worse off than the first one. This style isnt new anymore and some people who played the first one prob looknat this and saybits jus more of the same
I think there are just too many games and people have less money to spend now since we are in a recession people have to be more choosey with what they buy
This game is INCREDIBLE! I got it initially thinking I’d get something to pass the time as I was waiting to start a few new games and just wanted to try something else first. I knew I’d like it, but I didn’t think I’d fall absolutely in love with it. The first week I barely slept because I couldn’t put it down! It’s the best JRPG I’ve played. I don’t get a ton of time to play so what few games I have played and loved have been JRPG or similar, but this one has everything I love. The 2D HD while beautiful, also let’s me concentrate on the story and characters. It hits that spot because the switch can still run it and make it look awesome but it’s not overly taxing on the shitty hardware. What an amazing game! I skipped the first and I don’t know if I’ll go back and play as the 2nd is such an improvement. So you don’t need the first one to truly enjoy this one.
Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that like 2 or 3 big games have been releasing every damn week lately. People only have so much money and time. I just wish these studios would chill lol. However, for us the consumers, I suppose drowning in great games is a good problem to have.
I think if it was "exclusive" to the Switch it would have sold better. Maybe this game geared a strong fanbase that didn't want the franchise to go to other systems? Anyway SquareEnix didn't treat the franchise good as they still have the other mobile chapters still locked up on iOS so maybe fans want to play all of it on one system?
It's still earlier... but that's looking like a flop. The japanese sales could have offset by the mythical digital hope... but those European sales look terrible. France isn't just a Nintendo friendly market, its the big JRPG friendly market for europe. The US will have to carry this game. The game should have been timed exclusive to take advantage of the "Nintendo boost." Nintendo probably wouldn't have drop Metroid and Kirby on top of it in that case, too. They could have also used that extra time to properly introduce the Playstation audience to the series.
The second game also had a Steam release at the same time as the console releases, and SteamSpy estimates a minimum of another 100K purchases there. Considering the first game didn't have that as a factor, the drop in physical sales is much more expected.
Octopath is one of those games that will sell well over the course of its life. It happened to release around some great games but I'm excited to play it. Square enix has been releasing non stop bangers on the switch, I sunk 100+ hours into the original and unfortunately never beat it. The QOL will probably keep me in this game when I can get around to it
I had been searching for an RPG like this for a very long time. I grew up on the Final Fantasy games. I bought octopath about 2 weeks ago and i have been playing non stop. Im completely hooked. I love absolutely everything about this game. They should do more to advertise this game, the only reason i knew about it was because i was scrolling trough the playstation store and the trailer caught my eye.
A lot of people got tired of Octo 1 halfway through, once the novelty of the graphics and battle is gone the formulaic stories start to weigh. Most who didn’t finish 1 aren’t going to give 2 a chance even if its better.
I picked up the first octopath on release day which was July of 2018. I played maybe 2 hours on release day. I didn't touch it again until November of 2018. I was able to finish it. I enjoyed it!! Lol
People who are pressed for funds would have higher difficulty buying a new console and a new game than to simply buy a game for a system they already own.
I think a big issue was marketing. The game was announced at the Game Awards, and then launched a few months later. A lot of the people who bought it in 2018, probably didn't even know a sequel was being released. Of course, if that is true, then the legs for the game will be pretty good as they see the game on the shelves of their store or on the eshop, and then purchase it.
The biggest reason is the Nintendo bump that was there with OT1 because remember it was published by Nintendo, so Nintendo did all the marketing for them.
I'm not sure if it under-preformed or they had their expectations set way too high. Because the numbers say it did alright. It may not be the smash hit the first one way. But it did ok.
Octopath 2 is definitely 1 of my game of all time right now, my emotion go left and right while playing the game.. I'm feeling angry and want some revenge while playing osvald chapter, when change to temenos suddenly i'm feeling like become sherlock, change chapter again to ochette and it become better pokemon game, etc2. Hope more people buy and playing this game so the series will continue on.
Kirby released same day. More people like Kirby than Octopath. Like a dragon Ishin also released a few days before OT2 on PS. Octopath 1 didn't have much competition like OT2 did. Not to say it's the main reason why OT2 sold less, but it did have to compete with other well known titles at launch. Square won't care though and call it a failure 😔
I have only played OT 1 and OT 2 on the PC, so it was a bit less than a 4 year wait. I love turn based battles so both are right in my wheelhouse. My only regret with OT 2 is there is little replayability given you must do all 8 stories to finish the game.
It’s What happens in a somewhat global recession… I’ve even become more conscious on what games I’m now picking up even tho I have the disposable, also releasing all games in the first 4 months of the year has been a TERRIBLE idea.
It needs good reviews. JRPGs need time and attention to focus on them and not everyone is willing to blindly spend money on games they are afraid that they won't like. Weird because the first game was solid. But everyone should review it or play it on UA-cam if they want it to sell. For instance, Vinny over on Vinesauce is a huge Metroid fan and even though everyone younger than 20 years old in his chat wanted him to play Pizza Tower which was already being played by everyone under the sun, he chose to play Metroid Prime first and did a full playthrough. All while gushing about Metroid. I'm sure that helped create new Metroid fans. See Metroid is a series that stopped after a certain point, and not enough people supported that many games from the series back then. Even though a bunch were sold on the Wii U as downloads, again go figure. But kids tend to avoid retro games unless someone they like shows them why it's good. In other words, if you want JRPGs to succeed, show them why it's good.
I know this doesn't cover digital sales, but I looked up Steam sales for this and it sold around 76k so far. I even bought a steam copy due to graphics compared to switch. So this may effect sales since I know the first octopath didn't hit steam until much later.
Honestly, if this means there isn't a third one, I am okay with that. I think the sequel fine tuned many of the elements both gameplay and story. Is the storytelling a bit fast paced? Yes but there are less filler chapters than in the last game and every character's final chapter feels like a proper climax and didn't feel shoe-horned in (something in the last game that plagued stories like Olberic's and ESPECIALLY Tressa's). Do I wish there were more character interaction? Yes but if it went throughout the entire game, it just wouldn't fit Octopath Traveler and would be more like a more traditional JRPG in terms of story. The two things I could think of to improve for a potential third entry? Cut down on the grinding and allow backup party members to receive EXP. When I reached the final set of chapters in 2, I had to grind everyone to around level 45 since my protagonist's final boss obliterated me. And due to the fact you can't remove your protagonist from your party until after you finish their story, it made them way overleveled.
@@Turnajon I sure hope so! I think what hurt its sales on the Switch was releasing it on all platforms on the same day. But if it sold well enough on PC/PS5/Series X, I have hopes.
@@MrTherandomguy42 Actually, I think the game's best sales ARE going to be on Switch. Based on what I've seen on the Amazon charts, the Switch version is still outselling the PS4/PS5/PC versions. The other versions are not even anywhere close. It's obvious that SWITCH is the true audience for this game, not PS4/5/PC.
I think you hit all the key points with the video. I think this game would have sold a lot more if it was a limited Switch Release with the Nintendo Marketing department actually pushing the game. Instead it had to deal with Metroid Prime getting a physical release for $20 less like two days later. I honestly have no complaint on the timeframe for when the game came out(although I understand your point). I only have time for so many large RPG's like this one and so getting a variety of them and is fine by me. If I had one complaint about the game it would be the overworld abilities and how repetitive they are. We have Guide, Hire, Alure that all do the same thing. We also have Steal, Mug, and purchase that all do the same thing. Not certain how they fix this as an issue but it is a touch annoying. Maybe if we get a third iteration of the game they play with the overworld mechanics a bit more.
I am about I am about 35 hours into the Octopath 2. I have all the jobs (not the 4 secret ones or the secret secret ones). I have completed four Chapter 2s: the scholar, thief, dancer, and warrior. I have also completed many of the early sidequests. When people say the game is fun, they are not lying. Unfortunately, it is fun only at a certain point. The point of GROWTH. When you stop growing, the fun goes out the window. I’ve noticed anytime I interact with NPCs, my fun level goes through the basement. Sequels also compete with their predecessor, which at this point will be much cheaper. The question becomes, quality as it is, what does this game do that they cannot get from Octopath 1 for cheaper? And what did this game correct? This game is Octopath 1.5. It’s the SAME DAMN game as the first Octopath, including identical classes, with some changes and adjustments here and there. Octopath Traveler 2 also has much more competition this time around in the Switch's lifespan. There are other RPGs to buy including from Team Asano such as Triangle Strategy, Bravely Default, and Live-A-Live.
I know why I haven't bought it yet......Dead Space Remake launched end of January, Monster Hunter Rise released on Gamepass end of January, Hogwarts Legacy released just before it in February, Metroid Prime Remastered shadow dropped in February, and Kirby released on the Switch. With this looking like an HD 16 bit game and being $60 when compared to all the other games I listed, I decided to pass.
I will say I disagree with the point about how long it took to come out. While you’re probably right from a business standpoint, but the care and attention given to the game from the developers feels worth it from a consumer standpoint
Hopefully in the long run, I think it may still reach 1 million. I haven’t picked it up myself waiting on her cell or a better time to pick it up but it’s definitely going to be added to the collection. It May have some long legs. A Sequel to this may no longer be necessary. formula perfected.
Oh nope. They still haven't been able to integrate existing party members into the main character chapter arc scenarios. The travel banter this time is their solution of sorts instead of some random chatter like in 1.
Since we can’t fully count out digital a good number of people have multiple systems could get it for switch but then also PC for maximizing system specs. But who knows.
it's gonna sell overtime no need to worries. personnally i still have stuff to complete on the first one before buying this one. but the release did made me play the franchise over again. i also discovered it by playing it for free on gamepass and then bought it full price on switch because it's a great game to play portable so they should maybe put it on sony's subscription service
Quality doesn't always correlate with popularity and financial success. Timing and luck is also crucial. Most gamers today are younger and they lean more to MMORPGs and shoot 'em up. With Octopath leaning to classic RPG, it loses ground to younger audience as they have no emotional connection to it. I didn't find Octopath until I really filtered my search, so marketing is also a problem.
The main reason i wont get 2nd one because Square Enix increase its prices in South East Asia region by 25%. SQUARE ENIX is crazy for charging 25%more than 1st game.
Not porting the first game over to Playstation was a definite misstep. I don't have a Switch, so this game flew over my radar. But with the word of mouth I'm hearing, I'll definitely be picking up the sequel. If more UA-camrs talk about the game, I think it'll have long legs. Good games deserve to be supported.
I disagree with that statement. If square did announce the game was exclusive to Nintendo switch without the PS4/ PS5 version I feel it would flop either way. Plus the game was showcased at the Nintendo direct which made most people to believe it was exclusive in the first place and it's still did not make the numbers it needed but maybe over time it will get there in sales numbers and with the PS4/PS5 sales combined the game might get a little boost in profits
"Not being a switch exclusive kinda turned off Nintendo fans." That doesn't make any sense. I don't buy games only because they're an exclusive. If I want to play a game on a system I own...then I buy the game. I bought the game on the Switch and it makes no difference to me that it's available on other systems.

I had very mixed feelings about the first game. I wanted to love it and really loved it in many aspects, but the pace was very slow. I don't know if I wasn't exploiting the combat mechanics but even regular battles against enemies with lower levels took a lot of time. I left the game at around 75-80h with half of every character's chapter completed. I didn't come back because I have a stack of very exciting games overflowing. Even if OTII improves the game pace, I'm not buying it because I don't want to start a new adventure of this kind without finishing the first one (even though not necessary).
Heard lots of people that sounded like they were tainted by the final battle in part 1 and they said they didn’t want to jump in on something like that again. I bought the game but been playing Metroid Prime and Kirby so I didn’t start yet and not sure when I will as RE4 is around the corner.
I wonder if games are like movies in that the sequel’s financial success is really about how well-liked the first one was. In this case, OP1 sold well but a good chunk of those gamers most likely didn’t like it enough to get hyped for another go.
I know at the Gamestop I usually shop, and always pre-order my games at I was apparently the only person who pre-ordered the PS4 version while I saw three people picking up Switch pre-orders before i left.

The economy, too many recent similiar titles ( I still haven’t got to tactics ogre or live a live) current competition and sadly dissatisfaction about separate the characters stories were in the first system. While the final dungeon addressed that, I don’t think most played that and it seemed like a big sticking point for many.
I think the print run may have been limited which complicates there situation. When I tried to pick it up in person, all switch copies were sold out but other systems were still present. I had to order off Amazon, and even there it was limited stock on switch
I plan on buying it. I liked what I was seeing in the demo, but it’s the backlog I have and little time to commit to this game (let alone others). It’s gaming overload (FE, Chain Echoes, Metroid ReMastered, etc).
If Octopath Traveler does not continue as a franchise, I will be crushed. This game is exactly where I want to be in an RPG.

People are saying they didn’t even know this came out, Square Enix can’t promote their games for doodoo unless it’s FF, and then they get mad when something as big as this does “okay” when it could’ve been so much bigger. A game that sells “okay” or “fine” is a “failure” to Square ://
Hopefully the masses pick up on OT2 because this is an EXTREMELY dope game. I'm like 80 hrs in (PS5) and my homeboy fell in love with it as well.
I’m loving Octo2. It’s the heart and soul of what the RPG is. I’ll always buy them and can’t wait for other 2DHD titles.
I really wish links awakening and diamond and pearl would have been made in this style
Didn’t help either that it released on the same day as Kirby.
@@ghostshrimp5006 im not trying to argue im just curious what other games you say are like octopath
@@akari4657 I assume they mean the other HD 2D games. Live a Live, Triangle Strategy, and the Dragon Quest 3 Remake that´s kinda in a Limbo. I think a few indies also started to replicate the style
25 hours in and I’m in loved with the game.
Triangle strategy was incredible
Had Octopath been exclusive to Switch and Nintendo given the marketing, it would have surpassed the original.

Game is selling better than the first...Steam sales aren't being reported folks
@@appleku51 you know damn well this is the type of game that steam players are not picking up.
Metroid? Kirby released the very same day.
@@NuiYabuko The release of Metroid Prime Remastered completely overshadowed Kirby as well. At least in the gaming circles I'm involved in. But yeah, Octopath 2 also had competition from Kirby as well, you're right.
I'm currently playing it, 75+ hours so far and i can't stop!! The game is so freaking good, and the story is astonishing with each of the characters!!
I'd some of the sales down on consoles can also be caused by 2 being on steam on release this time around on top of what others have pointed out
EDIT checked out steam sales this week the game has trended 54 world wide down 42 place from last week so it had initial popularity and then most ppl who didn't get it right away must be waiting on a sale
FOR REAL! Real…
I put 70 hours into the first game, but didn’t finish it. TOO long, and too much required grinding.
SO SO I feel like… I should go back and finish the first, before buying the second. NOT ALONE! I’m certain the adoption to completion ratio for the first game is poor.
If you ran out of steam on the first game, you might push this game on the ‘wish list’.
An absolute masterpiece of a game!
It didn’t get the same advertising as the first one this game was basically shadow dropped compared to the first one which was even in the 2017 presentation
Because it wasn't a timed exclusive this time. If it was that, then Nintendo would've likely promoted it quite well.
The game reviewed well, and the general response is that it's better than the first one. I think market is just saturated at this point. I loved the first game and want to get this one, but my back log is very high with switch and ps5 games. I'll definitely pick it up when it goes on sale, though because I do want the game.
Ain’t that the truth some many games to beat so little time
Fair honestly it was kinda sandwiched between some pretty big releases namely dead space remake, hogwarts, and I believe re4 remake is releasing soon or has already.
I've enjoyed my time with it so far. Found out that Agneas latent power mixed with the scholar class makes elemental barrage hit everyone
Triangle was such a underrated gem.
ffxvi will be amazing, don't judge it before its even out.
Not if octopath 2 struggles in sales.
FF is amazing the hell are you on about
@@pedrogoncalves4585 some the recent FF are widely regarded as disappointments with a few gems like FF14.
I made the mistake of buying digital copies for both ps5 and switch, the game looks and runs so much better on the ps5, it's so much smoother, the portability factor just isn't worth the sacrifice of performance
octopath traveler and triangle strategy need to continue as there is so much potential for these series
I really love the old school turn based RPG style. Hoping this isn’t a trend which would make Square and others re-think whether they want to put out these types of games. I picked up my physical copy last weekend. Maybe it’s just a slow starter and sales will pick up due to word of mouth.

Even xenoblade 3 sold just ok but not great.
@@zach177 Just okay? When many JRPGs are lucky if they sell 1 million?
This is also the third HD-2D game inside a year. Might be at it's saturation point there. They should limit them to one a year. Triangle Strategy performed well. It's been a downward slope since. I hope it gets a break until DQIII.
They're all fundamentally different games though. The only thing they share is the artstyle.
Also, there seems to be a bit of radio silence regarding a possible 2? I just knew about it during the Direct.
I bought Day 1 on PS5. The game is amazing. It’s improved in every way. It’s a classic. The OST are such a gem.
But these games deserve better, in my opinion.
i cant imagine what octopath 3 will include.. hopefully something new main job wise instead of reusing 'em
I think the main reason is, that many people were a bit disappointed with part 1 and exspected something else, a more connected story and stuff.
The small changes make the game so much better than the first and I really enjoyed the first one so I hope it does well.
I finally beat this game at 110 hours and still have more stuff to do. Definitely my GotY.
Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that like 2 or 3 big games have been releasing every damn week lately. People only have so much money and time. I just wish these studios would chill lol. However, for us the consumers, I suppose drowning in great games is a good problem to have.
I lost 120 hours in this game haha
Not possible. This game is awesome as hell.
I got OCTOPATH 1 on switch and decided to get part 2 on PS5 such a massive improvement story wise, gameplay and especially visually.
Maybe they should advertise it more for Europe if it does worse there. I'm from Europe, hi!
Octopath is one of those games that will sell well over the course of its life. It happened to release around some great games but I'm excited to play it. Square enix has been releasing non stop bangers on the switch, I sunk 100+ hours into the original and unfortunately never beat it. The QOL will probably keep me in this game when I can get around to it
It’s possible a large amount of the sales are digital and not tracked well.
How does the shittier game of the two sell more? 🤦🏻♂️ People are weird.
Also, the game has only been out for 3 weeks or so in the US.
Lol
And where are you getting those numbers from?
they need to continue this game. next addition to the series, im hoping for completely different jobs
They should have held on to it for a “Switch 2” launch game. I think a lot will of people are feeling inflation and need to be selective.
People who are pressed for funds would have higher difficulty buying a new console and a new game than to simply buy a game for a system they already own.
We don't know the digital numbers. Digital tends to be half of sales
What? It got announced during a Nintendo Direct.
@@NuiYabuko oh, for some reason I was thinking the game awards, but you are right, it was announced even after that.
This definitely is an epic game a lot of people are going to be missing out ! I'd advise everyone to grab it it's well Worth it .
since it's out on different platform how are the numbers gathered? are we just seeing physical sales?
I have only played OT 1 and OT 2 on the PC, so it was a bit less than a 4 year wait. I love turn based battles so both are right in my wheelhouse. My only regret with OT 2 is there is little replayability given you must do all 8 stories to finish the game.
metroid prime, tales of symphonia, fire emblem engage, kirby etc. it just came out in a wierd spot and i think little marketing didnt do it any favors
It’s What happens in a somewhat global recession… I’ve even become more conscious on what games I’m now picking up even tho I have the disposable, also releasing all games in the first 4 months of the year has been a TERRIBLE idea.
I'm around 100 hrs in and I'm close to finishing it but I've also been doing side quests and content. Going for that 100% run!
IF it DOES continue to sell, however, I think a third one will come.
It's not the same game though.
And welcome to sequels, I guess.
Yeah they most definitely should've kept it exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
It’s probably a game they expect to sell around 2 million and I think it will. Probably more when all is said and done. So I don’t think it’s flopped.
It rocks on Steam more than on the Switch though

I do agree. Not being a switch exclusive kinda turned off Nintendo fans. Instead of a day 1 purchase, now it’s a I’ll get it later on sale purchase
"Not being a switch exclusive kinda turned off Nintendo fans."
That doesn't make any sense. I don't buy games only because they're an exclusive. If I want to play a game on a system I own...then I buy the game. I bought the game on the Switch and it makes no difference to me that it's available on other systems.

My heart would break if the franchise doesn't continue... I want to see a crossover with the old characters too! The world a so interesting!!!

Hey OJ
The PS5 is on pace to surpass the switch soon
What?
Heard lots of people that sounded like they were tainted by the final battle in part 1 and they said they didn’t want to jump in on something like that again. I bought the game but been playing Metroid Prime and Kirby so I didn’t start yet and not sure when I will as RE4 is around the corner.
I wonder if games are like movies in that the sequel’s financial success is really about how well-liked the first one was. In this case, OP1 sold well but a good chunk of those gamers most likely didn’t like it enough to get hyped for another go.
Waiting for OT3, really love the franchise
I know at the Gamestop I usually shop, and always pre-order my games at I was apparently the only person who pre-ordered the PS4 version while I saw three people picking up Switch pre-orders before i left.
Once I reached the level of 20-25 the game started to encounter every 5 steps any one have this issue
Honestly the reason why I think I didn't sell well is because why would I pay for octopath when I can play it for free on mobile?
listen to the music called "in pursuit of truth" its a boss battle theme for a character named "temenos" in the game, i havent finish the 1st game yet cause its so long, but its a great game indeed. the 2nd one is even better after i watch so many gameplays and reviews.
The economy, too many recent similiar titles ( I still haven’t got to tactics ogre or live a live) current competition and sadly dissatisfaction about separate the characters stories were in the first system. While the final dungeon addressed that, I don’t think most played that and it seemed like a big sticking point for many.
On Amazon Sweden the switch-version i no.5 I would not call France representative for all of Europe.
I think the print run may have been limited which complicates there situation. When I tried to pick it up in person, all switch copies were sold out but other systems were still present. I had to order off Amazon, and even there it was limited stock on switch
I lucked out and found one copy at Gamestop for my Switch. Got it and Dragon Quest Treasures.
I plan on picking this up soon, but i got so many other games to play right now
I plan on buying it. I liked what I was seeing in the demo, but it’s the backlog I have and little time to commit to this game (let alone others).
It’s gaming overload (FE, Chain Echoes, Metroid ReMastered, etc).
Yeah, the Switch has a chain of heavy-hitters back to back for months now.
Same the backlog is crazy rn !
