We all love some Sky Garry, but what about a Sky Gavin? Some say it'd be too much for the world to handle but I say it's time. Also, you're keeping that Micromaster Hot Rod away from Toby, right? He destroyed the last one didn't he?
I remember coming across the Return of Convoy for the first time in some article from tfwiki like a decade ago and feeling curious about the Battlestars. I was very very sick at the time and the resulting anxiety had completely busted my sleep cycle. So it was about 3 AM that I went searching for video reviews of them, Sky Garry included... And all I could find on UA-cam about our friend Celestial Garret here was an extremely low quality video, tinged in red all the way through, with audio so mangled it sounded like something out of the most extreme subgenres of metal. All this while sleep deprived and going through a very serious illness. I felt like I had dealt with the devil in my insistence to get a glimpse at how this extremely rare toy worked. Truly insane experience. What I'm trying to say is, thanks for making a review of Sky Garry that doesn't require me to step through a portal to hell in order to watch it! Much appreciated.
Got to love that he turns into something so obscure as a Cybertronian skycrane, but not as much as I love that he also turns into a Cybertronian council tower block. You can almost imagine the smaller transformers playing football while some crotchety old bird leans over the edge shouting at them about not breaking her windows despite being 12 floors up!
I’m sorry but it’s hysterical to imagine the big bombastic music of our heroes rushing in to save the day dropping from their spaceship at 2:50 just to immediately crash and die
Leans heavily into that Japanese marketing aesthetic of “more primary colors will sell more toys to the (stupid) kids”. Looks like the love child of Ultra Magnus and an RX-78-2. Happy to have met you, Garry!
I'm a big nerd for the Brave series, so seeing you give a little shout-out to Deathgarrygun was a nice surprise. (The red guns look better on Sky Garry anyway)
I always feel like more of these should've gone the Scorponok route, like, have a base mode, but also be a head master so you can still drive out to the liquor store for ice while hosting a party at your stationary carcass you now call home.
I must admit that I feel like I only want a Sky Garry of my own just because it sounds like his name is "Gary". (Given that we're getting a new Star Convoy toy, who knows? Maybe not one as big, but still has that connecting feature.)
Curiously the pictures of the new Star Optimus Prime shows the the mini truck has the connector plugs on the side to allow them to connect together when Sky Garry is lifting them.
@@hannahleith52 There's the hope. The other hope is him and Grandus are not "too big and costly". I'd take Leader Class Sky Garry and Commander Grandus, but I dunno about the size higher for both.
@@ae_double I'll even go one better, what if all of the Battlestars will all get released in new Commander+ Titan size because they're planning a full set of the Battlestars that can combine into a bigger more Titan-ish sized robot as replacement for the motorised features that can't be included in modern toys.
When we get a modern version of this figure, I hope they call him Sky-Galleon or Sky-Galley - both of which are more accurate translations of his name (even Sky-Carry is closer). Have you reviewed that Brave Maximus?
Got me a Death Garry Gun a few months ago. Looking at this one now (with your much-appreciated excellent lighting setup), I'm perfectly happy that mine was easier to get, as I personally like the red color scheme a lot better. Especially for his wee pal, The World's Most Adorable Missile Carrier.
I was thinking about Thunderbirds. Also this is one of those late 80s Japanese Transformers that gives me the feeling the Takara designers just wanted to go back to Diaclone.
I had never seen Sky Garry or Death Garry Gun until I had sold off ALL my Micro Transformers back in 2003. (I had lost my job then and needed to keep things going while I looked for a new one.) But when I saw Death Garry Gun, I knew I would have gotten him. That toy is a perfect addition to the Micro Transformers. It's a shame he never made it to the States. Now, in the winey voice in which we are supposed to complain, "AWWW GAVIN, BUT DIDN'T DEATH GARRY GUN HAD A GUUN MODE? SHOULDN'T SKY GARRY HAVE A GUN MODE?" (Actually I'm not sure anymore. It's been a while since I seen this beautiful toy.) Great Review!
Missed out on a really cheap listing of Death Garrygun a while back. Let me tell you, this video is a little bit like heartburn after a good meal, I love it but it slightly stings
I had this toy as a kid. It was in the 90s and in the US so we must have gotten a knock-off version somewhere. It didn't have a sticker sheet in the box.
Iirc character/team/vehicle names on big sentai-esque bases/vehicles was pretty standard, and sky garry basically is one. Also maybye to mimic actual carriers
It is a little unfortunate that Sky Garry is *technically* incomplete, but he's 25% unobtanium, and the replacement parts match really well. I can relate, my Grandus has a repro ear antenna and a suntan, but has the runner the antennas came on. {shrugs}
The dropship mode would make more sense visually/aesthetically if there weren't that many colours involved. Or to be more precise, if there weren't that many BRIGHT primary colours involved. Just imagine the spacecraft donned in khaki green and brown military camo. .... Wow!! 🙂

I loved the Headmaster cartoon dub where Blurr was called Wally and Metroplex was Phillip. It always made me think that Sky Garry was supposed to be called Sky Garrison or something… but now I say it I just hear Mr. Garrison from South Park. Anyway he looks awesome.

It’s got that Brave factor with the large chest piece and bright colors. Makes sense that it was reused for Brave. Fingers crossed we get an update alongside the new Star Optimus Prime. If we can get the full Battlestar Attack, that would be awesome!

Getting some Micromaster action in the cockpit is one of my favorite things ever!

Skygarry's jet mode feels very Gerry Anderson or Toei's tokusatsu take your pick.
