You may complain about the fact that Top Gear will never be like this, but I think that the old presenters won't be either.
@valleywoodworker I've seen the TGT episode where they try to build a reef and I almost wished they died. It wasn't funny at all, they looked like three dumbasses and Hammond says that he can't swim when it's been seen in the TG episodes that he could.
@@Snarl616 grand tour is what happens when Amazon threw too much money at them, gave them free reign, and they couldn't use a lot of the stuff from Top Gear. But as it stands, that Era of Top Gear was lightning in a bottle, and no other car related media is gonna come close for a while. Even Full Throttle, as great as it is, is still missing that sense of adventure that Top Gear had.
I'm around the same age as these three. In the 70s you heard so much about the Bonneville Salt Flats. It's hard to explain to younger people but anyone interested in popular mechanics type stuff in the 70s was constantly reading about the BSF. That and the SR-71 Blackbird. I can still picture in my head the Life magazine photo shoots of the SR-71.
This is honestly one of the most perplexing places I've ever driven. When you first start out you feel the pull of the car and all that but you kind of adjust to it. Thing is there is just salt for *miles*. You have no frame of reference aside from your speedo for how fast you are moving. It's the most amazing thing.
5:05... I have never been on salt, but less air is for traction in sand and the "growing" concept is for drag racing. For top speed, traction becomes secondary as You are already rolling. Over inflating the tire buldges the tread surface at the center thus reducing the contact patch resulting in less friction which reduces rolling resistance.
1:05 Ooohh nice catch, you caught the Union Pacific Heritage Unit, this one is in a fantasy-ish livery of the Western Pacific, a railroad that eventually became part of the UP system.

Their happiness brings me such joy as someone who has put down ambitious times for racing. Hit 9’s in my 72 442 in the 1/4 mile was indescribable. I imagine they felt the same here.
I love how Clarkson was trying to pretend he didn't know what was going on either XD then tries to blame James James: "CLARKSON!" Jeremy: "What?" James; "I know it's you" Richard: "What are you doing?" Jeremy: "We're up to 40 miles per hour in the Bago, it's James! Come on! Richard: "I was asleep!" Jeremy: "Where's May?" James: "Oh pack it in! I'm on the throne! Clarkson it's not funny!"
When he reviewed the ZR1 on the track the year after this he said the car "refused to start [after four days]," and after watching the punishment it went through doing all those high speed runs in 90+ degree heat, I don't blame it letting go.
Amazon signed a contract with all 3 of them to make a new show with a much bigger budget than they had while working with the BBC. They will also be able to take a lot more liberties since they won't be governed by the uptight BBC. Should be good.
