Eddie didn’t sound bad here - he would’ve gone higher 15 years before but he still held this together with a subtle poise.
Ruffin, handling his part greatly to be appreciated.
I felt bad for Eddie after his first solo. He was visibly upset his voice cracked so badly
Despite what some may think, Eddie Kendricks lived many years after the 1982 Temptations Reunion Tour. Before his lung cancer diagnosis, in 1982, it has been said that Eddie Kendricks was concerned about having trouble hitting his high notes. After visiting a doctor, a small drop of cancer was discovered on his lung, but not fatal at that point. However, Eddie was always thin. He was not sickly looking at this point. Check out the David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks interview here. I also saw thise two live in 1989, in Philly. He also released an album with David Ruffin, and performed in several music videos, with Ruffin, Edwards, and Hall and Oates. So, other than his voice being affected by years of smoking, Eddie did not begin showing physical signs of the disease, such as weight loss until the last few months of his life, There is a video here on UA-cam from a TV special, with Kendricks, Dennis Edwards, and David Ruffin, hosted by Arthel Nevel. After David Ruffin passed. Eddie continued performing. He also performed, with only one lung, dancing, and not sounding bad, up until his death, in 1991. According to the book "Ain't Too Proud To Beg...", Eddie was touring with Dennis Edwards, and his original Temptations replacement, Damon Harris. At his last performance, backstage, during an intermission, he nudged Damon Harris, on the shoulder, and insisted that he perform in his place. He later returned home to Alabama to be with his family during his last days. Eddie Kendricks, a TRUE Temptation! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
he died on October 5 1992. not 91....

Thank you for sharing
It was great that all seven of the temptations got back together in 1982 always hoped that all 7 temptations would have stayed together let's keep the temptations legacy alive long live otis williams god bless you
That Reunion Tour Only Lasted For 9 Months---Eddie Kendricks Voice Was Shot, David Ruffin Was Giving Them Problems
@@philadelphiaman David and dennis
They should of asked Damon Harris back but I guess there would of been too many falsetto's in the group.
Eddie, will never be another like him ever. Any time you hear youngster's emulate his falsetto, you can point directly to what Eddie was in music history.
Damon Harris was better.
That boy was hand selected and trained by Eddie, a fine replacement with similar range but less desire.
Dennis still at the top of his game then.
Can only imagine how Eddie must have felt.
Glenn had to sing Eddie's part in his presence. Couldn't have been easy.
Eddie Kendricks lost his voice bad, But Damnit David Ruffin was on point
What about Dennis? He sounded fantastic.
You know Eddie was fighting lung cancer @ that time.
@@ag052976 I don't think he knew he had cancer then, but the cigarettes had destroyed his voice by the late 70's
@@061romell You could be correct. But it was such a thing. That is such a hard voice for a man to contain. He was the best(in my knowledge to do so). We were so lucky to have experienced his sound.
@@ag052976 exactly dag if only Eddie could have stopped, but him along with all of them had vices to cope with the stress of being singers, especially on mowtown and not being paid.
FINALLY THEY LET DAVID RUFFIN BACK IN 🤩🤩🤩😝😝😶😶
Dennis, Melvin, and david killed it!2:04
It’s strange to see David performing Paul’s parts.
Glenn Leonard former member of the group temptations. He married Darcel Wynne later down the road. This episode aired late September-October 1️⃣9️⃣8️⃣2️⃣.
Great great great great great ❤❤
Wow!! thanks for sharing, never saw a video of all seven of them live.
The saddest thing that I had to watch was Eddie having voice issues and Ron Banks of the dramatics it hurt me so bad to see them have to go through am talking about not only Eddie Kendricks was the best first tenor ever but also Ron Banks was one of best top ten tenors of all time. May they both RIH.
Damon Harris was better than Eddie.
great show
There was a time when Eddie and David toured separately as the Temptations. I believe that they were in the Rick James video.
Poor Eddie. You know he would have sung all the high parts if his voice was in good shape.
Ironically my favorite version. Only thing I didn’t like, Sir Paul Williams absence and the absence and breaking of Eddie Kendricks voice
Kendricks really not with it here. Was he sick at this point? And it's sad to watch the later tenor sing Eddie's parts. Saw Eddie live with the original Tempts when I was a kid. They were giants.
Branner Eddie had discovered he had cancer at this time.
It's sad. yeah - he doesn't look good here.
I'm curious if he had actually found out he had cancer at this time (which is what I originally thought). The Reunion was 1982 and he died 10 years later. I thought he found out about the cancer the later in the 80's (may be wrong on that) but he did not look good in this video or in the Solid Gold video "Just My Imagination."
According to an interview with Dennis Edwards, Eddie had discovered he had a "pin drop" sized tumor on a lung around the time of the reunion tour, but refused to undergo chemotherapy because he did not want to lose his hair.
Thanks for that info. It's sad.
Remember a year later 'Motown 25' happened and it's a shame that Eddie wasn't present!!!!
David wasn't present either.
David Ruffin wasn’t present either.
Wow David Ruffin
Gotta remember Glenn sing Eddie's part originally in the Temptations and David and Richard sing Paul's parts
Also, in this performance, Dennis sang the line that Eddie usually sung before the second chorus
@@moonoinkoh IDK why?
@@moonoink I noticed that too...
@@gearywalker6113 Eddie lost his voice due to chain smoking and it led to cancer
@@gearywalker6113 I thought they probably would've let Glenn do it but it works either way tho
Cool😀
HOW DOES DAVID KNOW THE STEPS 🤐🤐
Rehearsals hahaha
Rex Smith, giving it all he got.
poor eddie
That's 40 years ago
and im still feeling it today!!!
I don’t like watchin this cuz Glenn was doing Eddie’s parts. I’ll stick with their glory days from ‘64-‘71.
He does a line later on and he really seemed to struggle, which is why I'm guessing Glenn was doing it. Would love to see a full reunion show though. It's a shame it isn't documented better.
@@SwingRiots it’s from the years of smoking that Eddie Kendricks lost his voice. No one even knew. I heard on the unsung documentary that Barry Gordy was sitting in their session during the reunion and wondered what happened to Eddie’s voice. Actually, he asked that question to Otis Williams. Otis said he didn’t know what happened. He kept his smoking private and secret.
@@SwingRiots fax I really wanna know how they shared parts and lead vocals
Ain’t nobody coming to see Otis Williams.
Yea but they been seeing him for 60 years...go big O
Smoking destroyed Eddie's voice
Eddie destroyed his voice with cigarettes and drugs!
He had cancer
@@Lord_megaTron_15 lung cancer from smoking!
