I'm pretty happy with the choice of actor to reboot the Blade films, from a dramatic standpoint he's got a resume that's hard to beat but..he's got huge shoes to fill when it comes to the marital arts talent that Wesley Snipes showcased in these films.
I'm still upset they aren't using Micheal Jai white. In comparison to him it's a stepdown especially when martial arts and stunt wise,he(like snipes) could do his own and is a real life martial artist.

If the filmmakers could skip paying Ron and Wesley and just use two minimum-wage food waiters (day job of most people trying to "make it") and sell just as many tickets (popcorn and diet soda), it would have been done.
cool thing about this scene as well, the fighting moves he is doing are really not all that flashy, or using a lot of special effects, he is just using straight forward stuff. That is why it looks so badass.
It's also why the camera doesn't cut away a bunch, like you see with a lot of other actors. Since he was trained in martial arts before he started the trilogy, he was able to do all the moves legit. You can really tell once he starts using the eletric batons - his moves are the hallmarks of a trained martial artist.

There are still good fight scenes in movies. The John Wick series, for instance. Ben Affleck's Batman has great fight scenes; the warehouse scene in Batman V Superman is the best fight scene in any superhero movie in recent memory. But you're right, too many movies overuse the choppy quick-cut shaky-cam style.

Specially John Wick series has restored the faith in modern era action films, showing that fight scenes are/look way better without sloppy/choppy edits and overdone shaky cams (yeah, I'm looking at you director Paul Greengrass with Jason Bourne 2+3). John Wick director Chad Stahelski has martial arts backround and has worked as a stunt coordinator /performer, so with these skills alone he knowns how to set up a proper fight scene (unlike most directors). Back to Blade-series and specially to Wesley Snipes. Gotta say Wesley has very unique fighting style, combing brutal street brawl moves with mixed martial arts. Always liked his varied fight dynamics, playing off with different tempo, timing and pacing of shots and movement + loving the open palm hits...like in this fight scene 0:52 or in opening fight scene: ua-cam.com/video/AmKHZkvJ-vU/v-deo.html (at 0:59). Blade 1+2 along with Passenger 57 and Demolition Man are definitely finest Wesley Snipes actioners. Shame Wesley Snipes has gone hard off-radar with forgettable B-actioners over these past almost 20 years. Plus his turning 60 next year so his sharpest vampire slaying action days are definitely winding down. Still, kudos and respect to the long career made veteran of the action genre.

@editing, shot selection & framing could definitely be better, but Donnie Yen choreographed the fights so the martial arts represented definitely fit & compliment Blade so well.

I love Blade 2 because it's a better sequel to the original also a better story and fights.
I'm pretty happy with the choice of actor to reboot the Blade films, from a dramatic standpoint he's got a resume that's hard to beat but..he's got huge shoes to fill when it comes to the marital arts talent that Wesley Snipes showcased in these films.
I'm still upset they aren't using Micheal Jai white. In comparison to him it's a stepdown especially when martial arts and stunt wise,he(like snipes) could do his own and is a real life martial artist.

If the filmmakers could skip paying Ron and Wesley and just use two minimum-wage food waiters (day job of most people trying to "make it") and sell just as many tickets (popcorn and diet soda), it would have been done.

cool thing about this scene as well, the fighting moves he is doing are really not all that flashy, or using a lot of special effects, he is just using straight forward stuff. That is why it looks so badass.
It's also why the camera doesn't cut away a bunch, like you see with a lot of other actors. Since he was trained in martial arts before he started the trilogy, he was able to do all the moves legit. You can really tell once he starts using the eletric batons - his moves are the hallmarks of a trained martial artist.

Miss this style of on film fighting... it's basically non-existent today. Now it's all just CGI and quick cut scenes with suspension wire leaps.
There are still good fight scenes in movies. The John Wick series, for instance. Ben Affleck's Batman has great fight scenes; the warehouse scene in Batman V Superman is the best fight scene in any superhero movie in recent memory. But you're right, too many movies overuse the choppy quick-cut shaky-cam style.

Specially John Wick series has restored the faith in modern era action films, showing that fight scenes are/look way better without sloppy/choppy edits and overdone shaky cams (yeah, I'm looking at you director Paul Greengrass with Jason Bourne 2+3). John Wick director Chad Stahelski has martial arts backround and has worked as a stunt coordinator /performer, so with these skills alone he knowns how to set up a proper fight scene (unlike most directors).
Back to Blade-series and specially to Wesley Snipes. Gotta say Wesley has very unique fighting style, combing brutal street brawl moves with mixed martial arts. Always liked his varied fight dynamics, playing off with different tempo, timing and pacing of shots and movement + loving the open palm hits...like in this fight scene 0:52 or in opening fight scene: ua-cam.com/video/AmKHZkvJ-vU/v-deo.html (at 0:59). Blade 1+2 along with Passenger 57 and Demolition Man are definitely finest Wesley Snipes actioners.
Shame Wesley Snipes has gone hard off-radar with forgettable B-actioners over these past almost 20 years. Plus his turning 60 next year so his sharpest vampire slaying action days are definitely winding down. Still, kudos and respect to the long career made veteran of the action genre.
