For my point of view herobrine was not trusted by his own brother so he felt betrayed he chose Alex over him so he stalked them basically and came up with a plan for revenge
If your wondering why i said brother it's because herobrine and notch are supposedly brothers obviously herobrine is not real notch confirm he doesn't have a brother but before he was to be confirmed a myth they were thought to be siblings
