Thanks for showing so much of this and how to manage 30 feet of leader. Didn't see many problems. Goal is to do this this summer 2023. Have had all the stuff made but started halibut and never did LL. What weight were you able to get by with? Shrimp flies or rubber worms?
Glad you enjoyed it. It is fun and easy to load the boat when you find them. Shrimp flies are better than worms they don’t tear off. They will just about hit anything.
That was a great video Steve !! Some awesome fish there, your catching fish I never heard of before, the orange one with the bulging eye were what ?? Canary ? Very neat 👍🏼
I just started doing long leader out of Winchester this year, don't have the electric reels yet but the minn kota terrova with spot lock is a game changer. Great video, hope to see you out there this spring.
That is an interesting setup with the weights, 30 ft leader and underwater float. Those electric reels are pretty slick, especially when you are fishing that deep!
Hi Steve, What is the purpose of the float? I love to try this sometime if I get skunked Halibut fishing past the 40 Fathom sometime, lol. Excellent video!!!
When/if the weight is on the bottom the float will keep the lures floating, thus not reaching the bottom where the Yellow Eye are. And of course you cannot keep the Yellow Eye. Thanks for watching and commenting.
There 's not much of sporting issue here, it's all about filling the freezer with delicious deep water fish. Electric reels just make it easier on the arms and back when reeling up from those depths.
Forgot to say nice to see other Newport fisherman posting.
awesome video!! i was biting my nails the whole time!!
Thank you

I’m not running long leader this season but didn’t the bag get raised to 15 fish? Good show, thanks.
Yes it's 15 this year, it really makes the trip worth it. Thanks for your support
Nice fish. Great video. And what an awesome ocean that day.
Thanks for watching Jared. It was a beautiful ocean day.
Thanks for the video im going to be doing this this summer
are you using a specific float?
It's a lot of fun once you find them. Yes it is a specific float that won't collapse under the pressure. England Marine sells them
Descending devices are mandatory outside of 30 fathoms per ODFW
nice score of fish
Thanks Beverly, it's an interesting wat to fish and very productive.

Yep it was a Canary which is very good eating. The Pacific does have some very interesting types of fish.
So is that the fishing version of a love tap? lol Thanks for sharing and being awesome!
Thanks
Interesting how that rig has to be setup. Reef robber sent me over here and your videos are great quality. The subs will come 👍
Hey thanks so much for the positive comment and for watching. Welcome!

I thought about getting a spot lock Terrova but haven't figured how to mount it. Long Leader is fun , Good luck
Spot lock on minnkota is the best thing since sliced bread
Do you bleed your fish? I hope to long leader fish this year out of Newport.
Yes always, good luck LL fishing it's really fun and 15 limit is awesome

So true, those reels are the way to go in such deep water. it is a fun and special fishery.

It makes perfect sense!! It helps to keep lures 30 feet off the bottom. Thanks again, Sir!
Automated rod and reel fishing...? No thanks. It doesn’t look like fun to me.❤

Good times! Where did you get the floats at ?
Enguland Marine, also you can get the black circular line holders there which I would recommend.
Nice going Steve
Can you text me the gps numbers for the long leader spot?
Thanks Rich
Thanks Rich, I'll text them to you.
