    Is the mystery box what you would typically see as a customer in terms of value? I feel like I got burned by mystery corals before. Like paying 35$ for the mystery to be a hollywood stunner.

      @colsonscritters  Рік тому +2

      Well I made the mystery box for my friend. We’ve never done mystery boxes before. For the mystery corals on top shelf’s website you are supposed to get a $35 coral minimum if you spend $35 but I don’t bag those corals

    Love the daisy dukes one. Zoas are one of my favorite corals. Please always dip corals before you put them in tanks. You don't know what you can be introducing. Melafix is the best God send dip in the world and great for corals. Get the marine one; 2.5ML with 1 cup of tank water (you can use more water if the coral is bigger and you don't have to worry if you put a little more than 2.5mL of melafix; its safe). You can do 5 to 10 minutes or 20-30 minutes depending how much critters are on the frag. You can introduce bad bacteria even if the coral looks perfect. It's extremely important to dip them. I've learned the hard way a few times. Now, I dip everything. Its also always good to pop the coral off the plug. Plugs carry a lot of bacteria, etc. It looks more natural too when you glue them to the rock. Its super tacky when you see nothing but plugs in a tank. You will get a more natural growth too if its not on the plug. Of course, some you can't get off the plug, but if you can, pop them off with a razor. And always start on the sand until they acclimate with the lights. Going from one light to another is very stressful on them. Because it is a small tank and the light is directly above it, you should always start them on the sand for a week or two. Once you find a spot for it, don't glue it yet, because you don't know if it will like the spot. Some spots they look even better. Patience is the number one tool in this salt game!

      All this is very true! We didn’t dip because I had grabbed certain frags from Top Shelf Aquatics that I had dipped previously! But definitely dip all your corals before hand!

    Hi. I have been wondering when should I put anemone. There are a lot of people said I should do it after 6 months and got people said can do it after 2 months. I need your opinion about it. Thanks

    • @colsonscritters
      @colsonscritters  Рік тому

      I would personally recommend waiting 6 months. But if your corals are growing super super well already then you might be able to add it early

    • @GuessMyName86
      @GuessMyName86 Рік тому

      I wouldn't get an anemone. They can be a pain in the butt. If they move around, they can kill coral and fish. Make sure to put a mesh around your powerheads and intake so they don't get chopped up. Ive heard a lot of horror stories and I've had two of them. Never again. It got to the point I was just so worried about it moving and killing other coral. It can nuke your tank as well. I wish I could keep one, but just not worth it to me.

      Every piece of coral in that tank are standard pieces. There are no high end corals in that tank. $500
      I don’t think so.

    I don’t know, I’ve lost many corals, try and failure. But I all big and all in when reefing. So a mixed reef with lots of zoas $35 a piece etc… frags up to $150-300 a piece. It gets pricey. Total system worth cost $2000 in corals, but with growth I’ve made my money back when trading or selling honestly? It’s how you look at it not just as a hobby, but as an investment! 🪸

    • @colsonscritters
      @colsonscritters  9 місяців тому

      Exactly, because you can grow out the corals and sell them later on or trade for more
