Wow... 14 years on and I still break apart when he hugs the first old lady and she so gently touches his face. I've seen this countless times, and I still just can't help but cry. Timeless classic.
A hug can means so much for a lonely or sad people. In this world, where everything happening so fast. No time to stop. People just walking next to each other. It can help alot. Share the love.
This is just making me tear up! My parents and little sister have died these last few years and hearing you say you’ve never had this much love again, makes me realize how few hugs I’ve gotten since they’ve passed. I’ve lost out on thousands of hugs a year since then 💔
That stroke on the cheek from the older woman at the beginning, that just kills me. Reminds me of my grandmother. A pleasure to watch this gem of a video as always.
Just going through my old favorites links, found this, didn't know what it was. Made me smile :) This must've been the early, innocent days of the free hug campaign
We need to make this go viral again. I remember watching this and balling my eyes out as a kid. This is what needs to be broadcasted along side of these videos of hate and murder. It's hard to believe the world is a beautiful place when you're exposed to such graphic images of violence. Sometimes you just need a little restored hope in humanity.
Peace is an illusion. And no matter how tranquil the world seems, peace doesn't last long. Peace is a struggle against our very nature. A skin we stretch over the bone, muscle, and sinew of our own innate savagery.
Only here because my Mom showed me this, and after becoming attached to the music, I saw the Mans face and realized how much he resembled my BF. I cry whenever this comes on.
Let me just say that I never cry. I don't. It's just not a thing I do. It can be the biggest tear-jerker ever and I have no reaction. But this video... Thus video made me cry. Quite a bit. This is amazing. You can see the people taking the hugs, how they really really need them, and this guy is taking time out of HIS life to brighten theirs. This is truly beautiful. No big gestures need to be made. Just the simple compassion of a single human being can change and possibly even save a life
Kyle Bishop Me too. I'm rarely cry but this time I do. It's so emotional, and the happiest is after the first lady accept the man's hug, and that brighten everything. Each person share the hug in different ways but All the same in a point that they have truly happy with the very simple gesture but full of compasionate. All the same, we all need loving in deed.
Actual truth is bud that it was the guy holding the sign up that was at a low point in his life that needed the hugs so as good as it was they all got hugs, he needed them most of all
The most truthful and heart-warming video there is. It makes me realise how much of my life I spend closed-off and separate from others... and how wonderful it feels when some - even random - person shows an interest in me. I'm sending a BIG HUG to anyone who needs one... :)
17 years ago... but this was a real time in my life where I felt a whole lot of emotion for the first time. So much empathy and love out of no where for such a young age. I was like 8 and just bawling my eyes out to this song. Such a great song and concept.
I remember watching this video back in the day and cried like a bitch. One of the turning points in UA-cam and just a starter to how big viral campaigns would get.
this was one of the first youtube videos i saw about 15 years ago. it really affected me then and it still does now. watched it today for the first time in many years and i cried a little. the world has changed so much..
This video has always been a huge inspiration in life. I was recently able to safe a life with hugs. This is my story. On August 8th, 2022 I left work at AutoZone to go on my lunch break. While heading north on East Henrietta road, I stopped for a red light at the 390 expressway intersection. While sitting at the light, I noticed a man looking over the bridge. He then moved further down and leaned really far over the railing. I thought to myself, he either dropped something or is in a bad situation. When the light turned green, I noticed he had started to step over railing. I immediately did a U-turn and pulled beside him. At this point he was over the railing and standing over the expressway. I rolled down my passenger window and asked if he was ok, which he ignored. I then put on my emergency lights and got out of the car. I walked up to him and asked, "Buddy, are you ok?" He looked over his shoulder and I could tell he was extremely upset. I asked what his name was which he replied Gavin. I told him I have a nephew named Gavin and my name is David. I asked if everything is ok, and he turned away from me and looked down at the highway below. I told him, whatever it is, whatever is wrong, it will be ok. Everything will be ok. Come with me and we can talk about it. He started to cry and that's when I became very worried he might jump. I got closer to him and told him, there's nothing to worry about. Whatever is going wrong, we can fix it. I then put my arms under his and hugged him from behind. I didn't want to take the chance of him jumping so I did it in an embracing way and not forceful. I told him please don't do anything. Just come with me and enjoy the day. Please. Just come back over here and let's go talk. Please, you're scaring me. Let's just go for a ride and talk. Everything will be ok. After about 30 seconds, which felt like an eternity, he then turned and stepped over the railing back onto the sidewalk. I told him we can go for a ride, I'll buy you lunch, we can put the top down in my car and go do anything. He replied, "Is this a miata?" At this point many cars had stopped, blocking the road. A woman was begging him to come back away from the edge while another woman was on her phone crying and calling 911. I told the crowd that everything was ok and we are going for a ride. Gavin got in my passenger seat and I told the woman we are going to taco bell to get some food and talk. On the way I told him that I would give him food or a ride. Whatever he wants. Just enjoy life. I love customer service and making people smile because that is what life is about. I turn upset or worried customers into smiles every day. He said, not everyone is so kind. I explained the majority of people are. I meet beautiful people at my work every day. We arrived at taco bell and I saw many police driving around, but none at our location. I thought it would be most safe and calming to fulfill my promise and buy him lunch. I bought 2 chalupa meals and while waiting for the food, we talked about life and how paying it forward is what it's all about. A very kind Sheriff walked in and approached us. I explained that things are calmer now, but we should still talk to make sure everyone is ok. We talked for about 10 minutes and Gavin agreed to go with the Sheriffs and talk to a specialist. I gave Gavin both the meals I had ordered and a big hug. I gave him my cell number and told him if there is anything he ever needs, to call me. I said I still owe him a ride with the top down. We actually had some laughs and some smiles. His tears of sadness turned into tears of happiness. He said, "I'm ok now because I know people like this exist" and pointed to me. Pay it forward
I was at work one day and had just found out that a friend had aggressive breast cancer. One of the guys came up and asked what was wrong? apparently I wasn't as chatty as usual. So I told him. Do you know he just opened his arms and hugged me. I nearly burst into tears right on his shirt. It was just the loveliest thing.
@@katiestevenson6232 This day is now. I've just spent the last two days with my Free Hugs sign on a local open air festival in my city here in northern Germany. You won't believe how many people reached their arms for a hug! hundreds if not thousands, young and old. Free Hugs exists. You just have to try it out.

I've done this twice in my life. Both times were honestly genuinely life affirming. The amount of random love on the street you felt was just... overwhelming and extremely fulfilling at the same time. The one I remember the best was a little girl of about 6 who was passing with her mom and asked what it all was. I asked if she wanted a hug, and she said yes. I'm a 6 foot 4 guy so I got down on my knee and we hugged. She went on her way but 10 feet down the road, she asked her mom if she could have another. So she came back and hugged me again. Melted my heart truth be told. Sweet girl. It's been years and I still remember.
So touchy.. awww. Here's the whole story for those who're wondering who did it start : This man's mother died one day, and he was really heartbroken when he saw people hugging eachother at the airport, and knew he'd be lonley forever. So he decided to do the "Free hugs" movement, so him, and everybody who needs a hug, could have one. Soooo cute. ♡♡
This video makes me nostalgic. I forgot how good this song was too. I hope we can get back to a point where hugging someone you barely know isn't such a risk.
It was never a risk. This social distancing bullshit and mask mandates are just a scheme the government uses over the credulous masses to measure the degree of mindless compliance
This video, when i first saw it almost 16 years ago, gave me hope, that in this world is good peaple too. Even if they are random, but Can Made your day just with a Hug. Now, after 16 years, this video kicks in even more. And because of this video, i know the sick puppies, band un those days, Made my teen Life better. So thank you for good memories, good Times and show, that there, outside, are good People too
Would love for you to check out my FREE HUGS EXPERIMENT. All the hugs was dedicated to those suffering from depression. ua-cam.com/video/Tyx3iO_HYIQ/v-deo.html
The free hugs campaign. This video was huge on the internet when it first came out, we would share it all over Myspace, then go to UA-cam and sing our hearts out while we watched the world heal a little bit. Love this shit man.
I am a sobbing mess. My mom landed in the hospital and when I rushed out of work, my best friend and now current co-worker gave me a hug. I have been missing that kind of thing in my life. We have all been missing that kind of thing in our lives. Damn.
What is truly amazing about the beginning of this was that "Juan Mann" had hit a real low in his life when he came up with this idea. He could have been angry, sad, bitter. Gone out and punched someone. Instead he came up with the idea of Free Hugs. {{{HUGS}}}
He was approached by police officers who told him he couldn't do what he was doing in that location despite it being a common spot for street performers and buskers, and that he needed to have a public liability insurance policy (which he couldn't afford). He started a petition to appeal to the city council to reverse the "ban", only to discover the council had no idea what he was talking about. Whatever the cops told him to make him move along was total crap.
Watching in March 2020. With COVID-19 sweeping the globe, free hugs and gathering in public spaces aren’t done anymore. This video made me cry for different reasons. 😢
We didn't hug enough before the pandemic... We took it for granted. After this pandemic we need to love each other more and love each other as we love ourselves
Great video and a sad footnote. Interesting how so little time passed when people hugged on the street like this, to avoiding each other like lepers. "...fear itself."
Hard to believe that we were promoting that eleven years ago, and do remember fondly that a colleague sent it to me from Australia, I then sent it out internationally, and I was contacted by a colleague in Italy. Remember when we had free hugs campaign in 30 cities in Italy, they did a fantastic job. WOW now 78million visitors, you did awesomely.
Commented here in 2008, 2014, and now in 2021. Long time i been here. Hope that this world at one point will start to turn in a better place again :) Like it was earlier
We should have a video museum. Either online or in person with separate rooms that shows the greatness of things like this. On display for all of history
I can't believe this was 18 yrs ago. I saw him in Martin Place and really needed a hug that day but was too shy to go get one. Just seeing his kindness made my day thought 💗
It's been 13 years. I'm 26... I literally watched this for the first time right around when it gained online notoriety, HALF MY LIFE ago......... Man, the time has flown by.
my grandma just passed away today and if 2020 wasn't bad enough I just want to quote " I'll take you for who you are if you take me for everything" I love you grandma Rest In Peace your in a better place now
Well done Australia, this is an amazing idea that spread out through all the entire world, it went viral, then other countries started to do it. That is the power of love. Love it.
Still coming back to this after all these years. hard to believe it's been 10. Still love me some Sick Puppies and the message this video first started :)
Hello, I'm from Russia. I have just read the article about this man in my English book. It is so cute! I was nervous about this person, because I couldn't imagine this. I can't imagine, that I go to streets with the cardboard. And he was feeling the same! But he did it! And this story is so inspiring for me!
It's amazing the SMILES it produces!! I watched this video many times, the people who got and gave hugs SMILED like 90+% of the time! People who didn't want a hug SMILED! People who just hugged the person they knew, who they were with, they SMILED! Even the cops SMILED! People signing the petition SMILED! POWERFUL!!
This is 2021. With Covid. Where we can no longer kiss and embrace people we know, never mind those we don't. And it ain't gonna change anytime soon. And you wanna know why the tears are running down my face while I watch this wonderful video...?
been in prison 10 years, x stole everything, emptied my bank account, dad died. Thought about this the whole time. I get out, what's the first thing I do? Yeah, can't wait to show my mom. Thanks hugs project, you made a difference.

So thank you for good memories, good Times and show, that there, outside, are good People too
16 years later, I still can't watch this without tearing up.
Any one else have UA-cam nostalgia?
yup!
+Linus Fedora Tips I had to check this video again cause I was having big nostalgia.
+Linus Fedora Tips ..How much do we love Juan Mann? Let us count...A Life time of Hugs to Everyone! JOHN 3:16,17
+Linus Fedora Tips cool name.
+Linus Fedora Tips yes
After all these years this is still up. Awesome, I yet again get tears when watching this.
same
such a beautiful video
Would love for you to check out my FREE HUGS EXPERIMENT. All the hugs was dedicated to those suffering from depression. ua-cam.com/video/Tyx3iO_HYIQ/v-deo.html
Have watched this video countless times today. 3:39 minutes of happiness and love that restore my faith in humanity when I feel it is lost.
The free hugs campaign. This video was huge on the internet when it first came out, we would share it all over Myspace, then go to UA-cam and sing our hearts out while we watched the world heal a little bit. Love this shit man.
I’m a lot more cynical than when I first saw this 14 years ago but I still love this video. It melts me.
I am a sobbing mess. My mom landed in the hospital and when I rushed out of work, my best friend and now current co-worker gave me a hug. I have been missing that kind of thing in my life. We have all been missing that kind of thing in our lives. Damn.
What is truly amazing about the beginning of this was that "Juan Mann" had hit a real low in his life when he came up with this idea. He could have been angry, sad, bitter. Gone out and punched someone. Instead he came up with the idea of Free Hugs. {{{HUGS}}}
/hug
You know him? What was the petition about? It seems to come out after he was stopped by the Police at first? Sydney has become the Nanny city now...
Whatever the cops told him to make him move along was total crap.
lmao
So amazing. No matter how bad the day is, this always cheers me up.
Watching in March 2020. With COVID-19 sweeping the globe, free hugs and gathering in public spaces aren’t done anymore. This video made me cry for different reasons. 😢
yeah know what u mean i cried watching it just now the entire vid. I cried years ago when i first saw this...now i cry b/c of covid
9 years later and it still makes me cry with tears of happiness :)
You are a hero !Thnaks you make me cry with Joy ! Take care of your precious self ! Greetings from France !

Thirteen years later - still love coming back here and watching this video
In France we used that kind of video in HIV campaign. At the end it said "AIDS is not spread that way. Love is.". Loved this campaign.
still one of the greatest campagins ever. dont ever stop spreading a ittle bit of happiness. you never know how much you might help someone
0:53 Love how the old lady gently touching his face. That's sooooo sweet

DynamicMentalFitness You made me crack up
We didn't hug enough before the pandemic... We took it for granted. After this pandemic we need to love each other more and love each other as we love ourselves
Let's plan a HUGE "free hugs" flashmob for after the pandemic!!!
@@Freiya2011 im in! Let's make it into a worldwide event
@@paulmarin6380 How? When? Where? 😂
@@paulmarin6380 I'm in!
@@Freiya2011 Great idea!
Great video and a sad footnote. Interesting how so little time passed when people hugged on the street like this, to avoiding each other like lepers. "...fear itself."
...Sometime we forget the littlest gesture means so much to another person.
I love how it starts out in black and white then turns to color when the old lady hugs him 💜
Almost 13 years later, and this is still my favorite UA-cam video. I love this project! 😍🤗
12 years later and I still cry watching this video... So beautitul
Wow I don't think I've seen this video since like 2008. The nostalgia this brought me got me a little teary eyed :')
2024 anyone?
Yes :)
When I’m sad this brings me back! I’ll never forget! ❤
Wow how the demographics in Sydney, have changed over the past 30 years! The sign just wouldn’t work in Pitt st today!
❤❤❤
Roll Call ☎️
We are all the same ❤
Commented here in 2008, 2014, and now in 2021. Long time i been here. Hope that this world at one point will start to turn in a better place again :) Like it was earlier
Still after over 10 years, this is one of my favourite videos of all times.
We should have a video museum. Either online or in person with separate rooms that shows the greatness of things like this. On display for all of history
happiness only real when shared.
I can't believe this was 18 yrs ago. I saw him in Martin Place and really needed a hug that day but was too shy to go get one. Just seeing his kindness made my day thought 💗
It's amazing what a simple touch will do for some people.
I come here to watch this when my faith in humanity is broken. Thank you!
Me too. Hope you're ok ❤️
It's been 13 years. I'm 26...
I literally watched this for the first time right around when it gained online notoriety, HALF MY LIFE ago......... Man, the time has flown by.
Sometimes all you need is a good hug to get through the day. A little kindness goes a long way.❤💫
This is the first video I remember watching on UA-cam as a preteen/teen and the nostalgia is overwhelming.
my grandma just passed away today and if 2020 wasn't bad enough I just want to quote " I'll take you for who you are if you take me for everything" I love you grandma Rest In Peace your in a better place now
rip
Well done Australia, this is an amazing idea that spread out through all the entire world, it went viral, then other countries started to do it. That is the power of love. Love it.
This was one of the 1ST videos I EVER watched on UA-cam. A classic in every way.
Still coming back to this after all these years. hard to believe it's been 10. Still love me some Sick Puppies and the message this video first started :)
Almost 15 now brother.
@@conky27 Onward we go :)
Hello, I'm from Russia. I have just read the article about this man in my English book. It is so cute! I was nervous about this person, because I couldn't imagine this. I can't imagine, that I go to streets with the cardboard. And he was feeling the same! But he did it! And this story is so inspiring for me!
After that i bought me a Tshirt with Free Hugs standing on it and i made many amazing experiences
Another good time for this to go viral again. We could all use a good hug.
*hugs everyone reading this comment* YOU are awesome, YES, I mean YOU!
I had done this with my friends on Valentine's Day it was amazing
my all time favorite video ever in the history of the world
It's amazing the SMILES it produces!! I watched this video many times, the people who got and gave hugs SMILED like 90+% of the time! People who didn't want a hug SMILED! People who just hugged the person they knew, who they were with, they SMILED! Even the cops SMILED! People signing the petition SMILED! POWERFUL!!
My hugs are ALWAYS free.
2019 and this still gets me all misty eyed.
It's 2018 and we need more acts of kindness like this now more than ever
Fast forward to 2022, same can be said.
This is 2021. With Covid. Where we can no longer kiss and embrace people we know, never mind those we don't. And it ain't gonna change anytime soon.
And you wanna know why the tears are running down my face while I watch this wonderful video...?
Still here in 2021 after 14 years. Awesome video with awesome music. Sick Puppies for life! 🤘
been in prison 10 years, x stole everything, emptied my bank account, dad died. Thought about this the whole time. I get out, what's the first thing I do? Yeah, can't wait to show my mom. Thanks hugs project, you made a difference.
🤜
I am easily one of the more cynical bastards I've ever run across but this video still makes me smile.
Watching this during the coronavirus pandemic makes me long to return to these days. Hopefully one day again.
we are the same heart beating in sync. beautiful. just beautiful.
This need to be brought back into the spotlight for 2020, when the world was in most need of a free hug.
UA-cam nostalgia ftw! This gem always gets my tear ducts going....yep, there I go again. lol
This inspires me to live my highest purpose by opening my heart as much as possible. What a beautiful human, and humans!
