  • Here is an easy and cost-effective (virtually free) way of keeping your Christmas Tree well hydrated (and less of a Fire Hazard). It prevents laziness and prevents getting a lot of pine needles in your hair. [Christmas Tree Fire Prevention] Method. It's also a good way to Water a Christmas Tree if you're going to away from your house for a few days. The external container will help Water your Christmas Tree while you're gone. Going to be gone longer? You can use a larger container or you an daisy-chain more than one water container to compensate for the time you'll be gone. (Perhaps I'll make that in a future video). Hope this has helped you... and if this video even helps to prevent one house fire, or save one life, it will be more than worth the time/effort it took to share this video. Happy Holidays to you all. ^_^
    Please like and subscribe if this video helps.. (I never pandered for more subscribers before but now UA-cam wants 'Creators' to have at least 1000 subscribers? As of January 16, 2018) Thanks!
    After Two Million Views and 1200+ subscribers... they keep moving the bar and changing rules like a bait-and-switch. Gave up and got rid of all the commercials. As suggested by a viewer, I've opened a PayPal.Me account instead. Please contribute if you'd like to buy me a coffee (I don't drink coffee, so I'll use it for Coca Cola instead). Thank you so much! I came across a product on Amazon and the DIYer in me thought, “I’m sure I can do this myself.” I’ll definitely use the daisy-chain method while I’m away. Thank you again.

      Thank you for watching to the end (very few do). ^_^ Wishing you well. Hope your tree from last year was well hydrated... as well as "this" year if you're making another (or reusing your device from last year). Happy Holidays!

    Thanks for this video!! I was about to spend a lot of money on a system, then found your vid. Wish I had read some of the comments below; I bought a 2.5 gal water bottle, and could have just used multiple gal jugs. Oh, well... RIP David, and my brother Jim, who died suddenly this fall.

      @@BicycleCrossroads Honest question, and I know a dried out tree is highly flammable, but, without any sort of spark or heat source, is an unplugged, dried Christmas tree any more of a danger than a pile of cotton towels in a corner? Thanks for video, I plan to use this method just so my tree will last longer and I don't have to ask neighbor to water it!

      @@ldlink3935 probably not... But not worth risking your home and your memories to something easily preventable. Houses can be replaced. Your memories cannot.

    Joy to the world 😄 I just took the time to think when my trees have died in the past, the first couple of days. Now you reaffirmed that and I apreceiate you making this video. I was looking and found you 🤗

    Great video. Do the white cap and red fittings/clamps on the tubing serve a purpose? Are they necessary? Thanks!

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  7 років тому +3

      The tubing belongs to an old watering device that broke. It operated a little differently. The white cap was the closure to the device and it has an extra hole in it. You would have to cover the hole with your finger and squeeze the device at the same time to prime the tubing with water. The red clamp was used to clamp the water in the tubing so you could bring the device to a sink to fill. This current version doesn't require either one. A simple recycled tubing of any kind will work. Air tubing for fish tanks will do. Or for folks with nebulizers, one could recycle the oxygen tubing by just cutting the ends off.

    once it's primed and you refill it every few days, can you fill the water jug above the line, or does the water level have to stay below the line in order to prevent overflowing the stand?

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  3 роки тому +1

      Don't have to, but to be safe, you can fill at or below the line. I typically fill it above the line depending on how empty the tree base is. If you're worried about overflow, or you're planning to be away for more than a few days, you can add more bottles. That would increase your water volume and would keep the tree hydrated without worrying about overfilling or overflowing it.

    Great instructions! Does the size of the tubing matter?

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  4 роки тому +2

      Doesn't really matter. But if it's too small it can get clogged with debris from the tree.

  • @richardthomas3858

    When you say one or two holes what would the second hole do and where would it be?

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  4 роки тому

      You could put the hole anywhere. You could drill a hole in the cap if you like. However, wherever you put it, you need to cover it when you squeeze the bottle to force the water through the tubing to make contact with the water in the base. I've skipped the second hole, as I can just unscrew the cap to let air in. I don't unscrew it all the way, just enough for air to enter the milk bottle.

    Do u screw the cap on when finished

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  5 років тому

      You can screw the cap tight when filled, then squeeze the water into stand... then uncap it. Or just keep it "loose" so air can get in.

    What kind of tubing do we need? Can I use just plain tubing? Your tubing has red and white "things" attached.

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  2 роки тому

      Any tubing is fine. Even oxygen tubing with the ends cut off will do. If you read the old comments, the tubing I used comes from an old commercial unit I used for years. It worked a little different, but I salvaged the tubing from there.

    How many bottles can be used?

    • @BicycleCrossroads
      @BicycleCrossroads  6 років тому +2

      You can have as many bottles as you want. You just have to drill an extra hole and add an extra tubing. You can either add it to the tree, or simply daisy-chain to each bottle... just as you would when you "tandem" suction canisters. If you're going to be home, you wouldn't need to add bottles, but if you're going to be away from home, add as many as you think you'll need to keep the water hydrated while you're gone. Just make sure to squeeze water into each tubing to make sure there is communication between each bottle.
