    Just bought a Bear Cruzer $329. They adjusted draw length and weight in the store. Not knowing much about archery I chose Bear because they've been making and innovating bows for a long time. Watched a few Fred Bear interviews on youtube and just like the guy.

    The shop where my kid takes lessons suggested a PSE Stinger single cam for me to get my feet wet and I'm digging it so far. The only issues I'm having so far is the peep twisting around as the strings stretch out and settle. I may end up getting it re-strung but for now I'm getting good groups at 40 yards which is about as long as I can get in my yard. I'm digging the bow so far. My son started with a PSE mini burner when he was 8 and hasn't outgrown it. We've made some nice upgrades to it. I told him I'd get a bow and shoot with him if he stuck with it for a year and still liked it. He wasn't ready for dad to come in and start kicking his ass, but I give credit to the bow I picked more than my form.

    hello again Shaun. I think it is great that you're doing a review for beginners compound bows. as I've told you before I absolutely love my 2 diamond bows on my diamond prism and Sb-1 I've just put a cable Slide by precision shooting on both along with Pine Ridge wishbone string silencers and limbsaver recurve broadband limbsaver. being that they're both solid limbs on my bows. my son and his father in law have done the same on theirs.. other people at the Archery Club I've just became a member of can't believe how smooth and quiet my bows are. The best budget bow, in my opinion and experience, are the Diamond Infinite Edge and the Infinite Edge Pro. I owned the former and currently own the latter. The reasons for the upgrade are the 80% letoff for the Pro vs the 75% for the Infinite Edge, and an even better backwall at full draw. It comes in a package for $400 with some pretty decent accessories. The only thing I would replace is the Hostage rest for a QAD Hunter dropaway. It's a dual cam bow with yokes at both cams that you can use to tune your arrows for perfect centerflight. Fit & finish is remarkable and I've got mine papertuned perfectly. I built new strings for it with 452x string material and have it dialed out to 60 yards. It's a great shooter and I plan on keeping it for as long as parts are available when things break. The Diamond Edge is okay. It's a binary cam so you can't tune the cam lean to get perfect centershot. Good show, Sean.

      Have you had a chance to test the bear agent? its almost identical to the diamond edge sb-1 but i feel like it is a little higher quality even though it is the same price point. i just bought one, havnt shot it yet but its very light and comfortable. Bought it from dicks for $340, original price was $399. i know very little about bows(this is my first modern compound bow) and havnt seen any professional reviews on it. would like to see you make a review on it if you can.

    Just a quick tip for future reference or those that have a solid limb bow, the bowmaster press is intended to , and works WITHOUT the brackets...just simply slip the 'T" cable ends through the cam notch in the limb (the space in front of either cam) with the included leather pads so as to protect the finish of your bow and crank her down...
    Be warned tho, they can be a bit unwieldy to the inexperienced, go slow, make sure nothing is slipping as you go. Cheap. Fits in your pocket, works well.
    Appreciate the quick plug for the bear cruzer(G2), the choice i made this christmas for my 13 year old daughter...was stuck on sb1 and edge pro for a while... Tuned the cam lean and timing today with thanks to my bowmaster press and seans outdoor adventures vids....

    Sean, only issue I have with the bows that advertise a 15-70 lb. draw weight is that the draw weight is proportional to the draw length. With the limb blots screwed in all the way I can only get my daughters bow up to 47lbs. at her draw length.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      Then there is something wrong with the bow, because the Diamond Edge SB-1 I showed in this video goes to 70 pounds when the bolts are tightened all the way in.

    Also, are there any other bows you might recommend. Looking pretty much for a high end compound bow, which is flexible on the adjustments for both the draw length and the weight of draw.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 років тому +1

      The two bows I have liked for their adjustability in draw length are the PSE Evolve and the BowTech Real or Reign series. They only adjust for 10 pounds on draw weight though, as most flagship bows will only give you about a ten pound range for draw weight.

    Hey Sean, I'm a big fan of your videos and I love what you are doing with the channel. I have to thank you for everything honestly, you got me into archery. 2 years ago I watched your monster buck video and was instantly interested by archery. After that I got my first recurve ( Crossman Sentinel 30lbs) Now I feel old enough to get into Bowhunting, (I'm 14.) I have a few questions for you. My friends dad is selling an old Jennings Buckmaster G2. My standard recurve draw is 50lbs, however the lowest draw it can go is 60. I can hold 50lbs on a recurve for about 15 solid seconds give or take a few. The other problem is convincing my parents to let me get my own license for small and medium game. Any tips on that? Thanks so much for the help and putting out amazing content and getting people like me into the sport of Bowhunting and Archery.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      It is a lot easier to hold a compound at full draw because of the let off. So, with a recurve you are holding 50 pounds, but if you are pulling 60, then you are probably only holding around 15 to 30 pounds depending on the bow. The newer bows have a much higher let off, so you hold less. I'm not sure what the let off is for that compound, but it may only be around 65% whereas a lot of bows now come with 80% let off, which means you are only holding 20% of the weight at full draw. So if you were pulling 100 pounds you would only be holding 20 pounds. If you were pulling 50 pounds you would only be holding 10 pounds. I would recommend starting with a compound that is more like 50 to 60 pound range. Sometimes archery shops will have used bows for sale with a great price, you can also look on line, but you have to be careful buying used and you may be safer getting it from an archery shop that has looked over the bow and can help you set it up right. As for the hunting, at least in PA, you are not allowed to hunt alone until you are around 16, and younger than that you need someone at least 18 years old accompanying you. Well, at least that is what it used to be, I haven't looked at that particular rule lately because I don't need to know that for my age, lol. When my kids get older I will look closer at it again though. Anyway, you need to find someone who can accompany you, and if there is someone trustworthy who can take you, then maybe your parents will be more accepting of the idea. Just talk it over with them and see what their feedback is. The worst case scenario is that you may need to wait until you are old enough to be allowed to go on your own if you can't get anyone to take you (and as long as your parents let you etc..) Hope that helps. God bless you

    Throwing in my two cents here, I picked up the Bear Authority RTH package from Cabela's for a song and absolutely love it. Bought last year's model and after cabela's bucks and a gift card only ended up spending $125 cash. Shoots quiet and with plenty of KE to put down game, for a guy who wasn't sure the lifestyle was for him it was a great deal.
    Not the most forgiving bow so your form really needs to be dialed in if you are going to be shooting past 20 yards but part of me likes that challenge as well.

    Quick question for you Sean. I've seen the Leader Accessories and other brands of bows on Amazon. But the reviews seem to be all over the place. The main issue people complained about were the string and cable sets. Some even said the strings and cables were broken when they opened the box. Others have said they went after a few shots. I can't believe every review because there is also a good possibility that some of these dry fired the bow or pulled it back with their fingers and derailed the bow as soon as they opened the box. I'm not interested in one myself because I have many other bows that are top of the line. But I do know a few kids who are interested in archery and these might be a good option to get them started. Of course this wouldn't be a good option if the string and cables are weak. Have you tested it enough to base an opinion on the string and cables? If so, what are your thoughts?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      Please give me a little more time to test the bow to verify for this concern. I'm currently away for a week, so when I get back I will finish setting it up and will do some test shooting with it. More likely than anything else, however, those bows were probably dry fired by people who didn't know what they were doing. God bless you.

    Hi Sean! Would you prefer the PSE Stinger-x over the Kinetic Heretic? Kinetic is allegedly the budget brand of Win&Win and the guy at my bowshop praises it a lot. Price is almost the same, but the Kinetic has a machined riser, metal limb pockets and hybrid cams. It is a bit heavier and a bit longer though. The company states it's a speed bow but i haven't found any ibo data about it.

    Hi Sean. I'm new to archery. I received the Leader Accessories bow last Christmas and haven't had major issues with it until i had the bow restrung this summer. Since then, one of the yoke cables has been sliding off mid draw causing the bow string to fly off when i let up. Any ideas why this could be happening? Thank you for your time. I really enjoy your videos.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 років тому

      It sounds to me there is not enough twist in that side of the yoke that keeps coming off. Since all of the strain is on the other side, i imagine it is causing major cam lean. Because of this, your bow string is coming off because the cam is tilted too much to one side. What you need to do if this is the case is add twist to the side of the yoke cable that is coming off until the cam is straight.

I’d pick one up just for their versatility. I whitetail hunt with a impulse 34 but don’t turkey hunt with it cuz it’s awkward in a blind. A ignite would be great for a turkey bow.

      I have purchased many used compound bows off of people on Archery Talk in the Classified section. It has usually turned out okay but I had one that was a little messed up. I still hunted with it for a year and got by, but it wasn't perfect. So, sometimes you just don't know what you are going to get. There is always an element of risk so make sure you check the feedback that has been given on the person you are buying from. Ask questions before purchasing and don't hesitate to move on if the person says or does something that seems a little strange or off. God bless you Gus.

I've paper tuned both of my Bows like you've shown us. one of the so say instructors at the club uses a Hoyt prevail all of his arrows are hitting the target with the arrows leaning to the right. Once you start to get a feel for it, you can then decide what kinds of upgrades you one. Do you like the rest, if not, then look at different drop away options. Use the sight for a while, and if you are seeing some challenges with it, then determine what those challenges are and then look at sights that have options that overcome the things you are not liking etc.

    just my opinion on the sb1.. I have one and though it would be a perfect bow for a child to grow into its definitely not a good bow for adults.. I watched lots of reviews on the bow before I purchased it and all of them talk about it like it is a quality product, but it is not.. the limb pockets are not carbon fiber like everybody says they are you can tell it is obviously plastic that has grooves in it to make it look like a carbon weave also if you look behind the limbs where it goes into the pockets you can see some kind of glue oozing out which is definitely a sign of poor workmanship.. the cam lean on mine is awful (even worse when drawn back) I actually contacted BowTech to see what they had to say about it and they said it was normal however for a $400 bow I would expect the strings not to be worn at the cam after about three or four hundred shots like mine is, the string is about 1/8" off center on the string stop.. the hostage rest is garbage it does not clear the fletchings because the bristles are so close together that if you rotate the nock/shaft so the vein clears and front the bristles will catch the back of the vein or going the other way the bristles will hit the front of the vein you cannot get it to clear in the middle and because the bristles are so short and stiff it throws your shot off (I ended up going with a QAD rest and a black gold sight).. the QAD rest barely fits on the bow because the shelf is too high compared to the burger hole, even adjusted as far as it goes the felt on the rest touches the shelf.. the cable slide is like sandpaper it tears your strings up so bad (I bought a cheap roller slide from eBay for $10 it seems to work good).. the adjustability is the only thing going for the diamond sb1 I suggest you stay away from it there are too many other choices out there for the price range I would suggest even being a beginner to just save up a couple hundred more dollars and buy a quality bow right out of the gate because buying a good bow first is cheaper than buying a generic bow and a good bow later.. maybe I am just being petty but I will not even look at BowTech bows just because they have their name on the diamond edge sb-1.. that's just my thoughts on the bow.. sorry to hijack your comment section lol.. God bless and keep the videos coming

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      The grease on the limb pockets is something that all bows will have. It is not glue as glue is an adhesive.
      Your issue with the QAD rest is not an issue with the riser, you just need to move the D-loop up, not the rest down.
      It does sound like you have more cam lean than I have ever heard of. Typically the way to deal with cam lean is to adjust the shims between the cam and the limb. The way this is typically handled is a thinner shim is put on the side where the dam is leaning toward and a wider shim is put on the opposite side of the cam along the axle. It is probably not a project I would suggest for a beginner but rather for a pro shop. I have people writing to me all the time, including adults, telling me how much they love theirs, so I am not sure what the deal was with yours. Where did you buy it?

    • @jamessnook602
      @jamessnook602 7 років тому

      you are correct about the grease, I just used a qtip to reach in and check haha.. as far as the Cam lean goes I didn't realize it could be fixed, when I called BowTech to see if it was even safe to shoot, they basically just told me to ignore it.. that makes me feel better about the bow knowing something can be done about it, I just wish I would have talked to you before I wore out my string lol.. I'll take it to millers next weekend and have her check it out.. I bought it from a BowTech dealer on eBay.. I know, bought from eBay.. Shame Shame haha

    • @jamessnook602
      @jamessnook602 7 років тому

      Oh and the rest is up as high as it will adjust and it still slaps the shelf when it drops which makes noise that I don't want.. after putting the felt on it helped dampen the noise but I'd rather it didn't touch at all..

      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  7 років тому

      I got shims from them to fix the bottom cam lean on my Hoyt a few years ago. They keep them on hand. Although cam lean isn't usually a big problem, even if a bow has some cam lean, it sounds like yours could be a bit excessive if it is an 8th of an inch. On a BowTech with the split buss cables you actually intentionally put cam lean into the bow to tune it, as can be seen in my video here ua-cam.com/video/QH1IiX6S7Z4/v-deo.html
