Arrow Selection - How to Choose the Right One

  • What is the right arrow for you to use with your bow? This video addresses that question and goes into detail to help you understand why you should choose one type of arrow spine over another. Also, when trying to figure out the overall weight of your arrow for trying to create as much speed as possible for target archery, multiply 5 grains per pound of draw weight. Example 70 pound pull x 5 grains = 350 grain arrow. For hunting, people generally multiple between 7 and 8 grains per pound - so at 70 pounds x 7.5 grains = 525 grain arrow. Some people will go heavier than this, and some lighter. I personally think 450 grains is plenty, and have even hunted with 350 grains with great success because of my broadhead combination with the arrows.

Recurve can be very different. I shot recurve Hoyt Olympic Style exclusively for years, and my initial provided set of aluminums that I mainly used in the 80s to 1990s were super slim, bullet target point only arrows with real (poly) shorter feather fletchings. They were really, really slim, but again, this was for some reason the standard for Olympic Recurve at that time, and for youth shooters. Looks like the new compounds are a whole other thing. Especially hunting vs. target shooting, of course. I don't recall if my arrows were Easton or what, they were so slim you couldn't even see markings on them, I do recall that, so maybe not. I also used the same arrows for outdoor and indoor shoots, although later I was mainly only shooting indoor, so I never switched sets of arrows by then.

Amen, and by faith I believe that we must eat the body and blood of Jesus as He tells us too in John 6:51-59. I don't want to be like His closest disciples who said that this saying was too hard for them to take, John 6:60, and as a result they chose to no longer place their faith in Jesus and His teachings. They let the devil deceive them and steal their faith as we see in John 6:66 (666 is the mark of the devil) and in this verse Jesus' own disciples left and no longer followed Jesus. Instead they went back to their former way of life and He did nothing to stop them. Why? Because this teaching is pivotal for all followers of Jesus to put their faith in. This teaching is the only teaching Jesus even invited the 12 apostles to leave Him if they didn't want to place their faith in Him and His teaching on our need to eat His flesh and drink His blood for eternal life. In all other instances where the Apostles don't understand His teaching He explains what they didn't get, but in this instance He asks if they would like to leave. The reason is that the followers must place their faith in this teaching and if they don't want to He is willing to just let them walk away and go back to their former way of life.
I personally believe Jesus and place my faith in His words when at the last supper He said He changed the bread into His body and commanded them to eat it, and also He changed the wine into His blood and commanded them to drink it in order to enter the New Covenant (another term for New Testament) and as God reveals in scripture, it is through the covenant (testament) relationships He creates with His people that he saves them. So if you are a person of Faith, do you place your faith in this teaching of Jesus'? If not, you'd probably benefit from my ministry videos ua-cam.com/users/seanwithjesus
      God bless you.

@@seansoutdoors That would be pretty cool. And maybe some super slow mo videos of an arrow leaving the bow, showing how much actual flex occurs during the shot.

I just started getting back into archery and felt I needed a refresher in all this and I must say...That was the best vid I've seen explaining arrow selection...Ever. Wish you would have been there when I was changing from shooting my 45# Bear recurve to my 1st compound, a Martin Fury 70@ 29", back in 1999. Now THAT was crazy ….like the difference between throwing a rock and firing a howitzer....Thanks again Sean and keep up the great work, God bless.
