Recurve can be very different. I shot recurve Hoyt Olympic Style exclusively for years, and my initial provided set of aluminums that I mainly used in the 80s to 1990s were super slim, bullet target point only arrows with real (poly) shorter feather fletchings. They were really, really slim, but again, this was for some reason the standard for Olympic Recurve at that time, and for youth shooters. Looks like the new compounds are a whole other thing. Especially hunting vs. target shooting, of course. I don't recall if my arrows were Easton or what, they were so slim you couldn't even see markings on them, I do recall that, so maybe not. I also used the same arrows for outdoor and indoor shoots, although later I was mainly only shooting indoor, so I never switched sets of arrows by then.

Hi Sean, great information that you share. I love it. I used to experiment with fletching materials and insert concepts. Never went to market with any of them. One thing I can suggest to you in explaining the friction aspects of a wider, thicker arrow, no matter whether it's carbon or aluminum. A wider arrow has more total surface area than a more narrow arrow. More total surface area provides more area of friction in measurable units to occur as the arrow passes through a target, foam or flesh. Keep up the good work! God Bless.

Amen, and by faith I believe that we must eat the body and blood of Jesus as He tells us too in John 6:51-59. I don't want to be like His closest disciples who said that this saying was too hard for them to take, John 6:60, and as a result they chose to no longer place their faith in Jesus and His teachings. They let the devil deceive them and steal their faith as we see in John 6:66 (666 is the mark of the devil) and in this verse Jesus' own disciples left and no longer followed Jesus. Instead they went back to their former way of life and He did nothing to stop them. Why? Because this teaching is pivotal for all followers of Jesus to put their faith in. This teaching is the only teaching Jesus even invited the 12 apostles to leave Him if they didn't want to place their faith in Him and His teaching on our need to eat His flesh and drink His blood for eternal life. In all other instances where the Apostles don't understand His teaching He explains what they didn't get, but in this instance He asks if they would like to leave. The reason is that the followers must place their faith in this teaching and if they don't want to He is willing to just let them walk away and go back to their former way of life.
I personally believe Jesus and place my faith in His words when at the last supper He said He changed the bread into His body and commanded them to eat it, and also He changed the wine into His blood and commanded them to drink it in order to enter the New Covenant (another term for New Testament) and as God reveals in scripture, it is through the covenant (testament) relationships He creates with His people that he saves them. So if you are a person of Faith, do you place your faith in this teaching of Jesus'? If not, you'd probably benefit from my ministry videos ua-cam.com/users/seanwithjesus
      God bless you.

Wow, I have been on Easton's site and Googling my head off trying to figure out which arrow to buy as a newbie hunter. Seeing how you can spend $100/6 on the arrow plus a broadhead, I would like to avoid mistakes. This video answered most of my questions on arrows, thanks!

Great video as usual..I may be a little "old school," even worked at "Bear Archery" in Grayling, Michigan about 40 years ago. I would rather IMO shoot an arrow too stiff (if in doubt) than the light side. Your spot on about kinetic energy. Most Midwest hunters probably shoot 90% of there deer under 35 yards. I shoot a G5 Montec 100gr. on a 27 inch 340 easton arrow at 60 lbs. I do have my 50 and 60 yard pins spaced apart a little more as you mentioned. I realize I could go with the lighter arrow..but am happy with this as it is. Also, I should mention I am shooting a moderate solo cam bow. What do you think?

In addition to all that I like to spine align my arrows too. I know there are different ways of doing that, but I invested in an arrow spine tester so I can find the spine and align it at 12 o'clock for my compound bow. I've found it really helps with precision shooting.

Hi Sean. Recent subscriber here, very much enjoying (lots of catching up to do) viewing your videos, even these older ones, and learning a lot about the many factors that go into setting up, tuning, arrow selection, etc. of compound bows. I would be really appreciative if you might find a bit of time to address a couple questions for me. I have an older Prime. Not real old....2017. It's a Centergy with the #4 cams which make it a 28.5" DL. I'm pretty new to bows and bow hunting so have much to learn but i'm excited about getting out and experiencing this new challenge. Truthfully i don't know for sure if this bow is exactly right for me...i bought it used. Admittedly not the best way to get into a bow and bow hunting, but it sounded like it was about right as a decent starting point. I'm 6 feet tall and from the measuring i've done i believe my draw length is around 29 inches, so it shouldn't be too bad. Just built myself a draw board but haven't yet had the chance to put my bow on it and check the exact numbers.
I have some arrows (pre-fletched and with nocks in) that i bought just stock uncut lengths (a couple different brands and lengths), but haven't yet cut any of them down and put the inserts in. So that's one of my main questions..."finally" he says, lol... with a bow at 28.5" DL and knowing that one doesn't want the broad head too close to your grip hand, what would you recommend as a good length to cut to? I was thinking 29.5", from insert to nock throat where the string will sit. Thoughts? I guess that's really the only question i have at the moment. When i began this novel i was intending to ask about spine and total arrow weight, FOC, and all that good stuff, but realized there are so many good vids out there on the topics (including yours), that i'm going to just have to experiment a bit and figure that out myself. But if you have any helpful thoughts/tips on that you want to share, i'm all ears. Just for interests sake; 6 of my arrows are Carbon Express, Adrenaline, 350 spine at 9.9 gpi, currently at 31 inches long, front to nock throat. Thanking you muchly in advance Sean, all the best and God bless you and yours.
