The Running Channel hello and in response to your question yes I am training for a marathon but I put my recent 5k time into a age graded calculator I am 24 years old and my time of 24:21 seconds was 1% below local class but my half marathon times are slower then those for my age group. Should I focus on a marathon or get faster in a 5k?

I started running in March of 2020, and virtual races were a good motivator and a way to see progress so I did quite a few. I've also run in three live races, including my first half! I have to admit I'm the new runner who CONSTANTLY talks about my runs, gear, shoes, the science of running...on and on. I post my runs on Facebook and sometimes think I'm annoying people, but I was shocked to hear how many people have told me I inspire them! Thanks for your great videos, which have been a crucial support in my running journey. ❤🏃🏻‍♀️

Back before gps watches ruled the world I always logged runs. I simply noted distance (estimated), time, and trainers used. Friends went to different levels in logging information. Some included weather conditions, wind direction...and one was so precise that he would write every single detail, including things like which way round a lamppost he went! The best runner I ever knew personally (over 50s international) never even used a watch. His philosophy was that his legs remembered what they’d done!

You missed the grumbly old codger who got into parkrun just before the lockdown and can't stop complaining about the price of the equipment. "It's supposed to be a cheap activity! Do you know what these shoes cost? Do you!?" As a prelude to complaining, at length, about the weather.
Another good show, by the way. Well done!

Definitely a rekindled runner here. I take off every icy snowy winter then start again in the spring. In March with lockdown, I became a UA-cam nut, kindled my interest in ultras... and went from a casual slow half marathon runner to a serious slow ultra runner. 2021 = slightly less slow ultra runner!

@@runningchannel I enjoyed the Hamsterwheel 12 hour event in November, so maybe that one again, but it's flat and I'd love to add some vert. I run in the Jay Peak VT Trail Festival every year in Sept, and it's ultra distances made the top 10 masochists list for trail ultras in the US. So maybe up my current registration to the 50k distance if possible? Really experience the full ultra misery... Lol

I'm possibly a subset of the "Early Morning to Avoid the Crowds" runner, that has also been planning in runs on days that are likely to not have many people out generally (Not too early Sundays, and Christmas Day), and finding new routes that avoid as many people as possible (hello weird footpath through some overgrown woods).

In terms of 2020 specifically, I was a "valley" runner. If you looked at my monthly mileage, it was consistent between January and March and then dropped considerably in April through June as I lost motivation given the state of everything and then it slowly rose again to the runner I used to be, making my 2020 monthly totals like a valley
