Lol. I love wood furniture pieces but can't imagine painting them. I love my bold floral sofas in basically 2 colors (shades of pink and green). My large oriental rugs have the same colors. The seasonal decor I add will play off the sofas: pink and mint green for January-August, burgundy leaves and cream pumpkins for fall and add the dark green for December. It is far too busy a look for modern taste, but I like it. To me, crowded spaces feel cozy. Weird, huh?
When it is time to sell, I will pack and then hire a decorator to stage the house in an appealing trend. Until then, I need all this visual stimulation and don't like a lot of change.
I enjoyed your opinion. I love daylight. I use mirrors. I try to have a fresh floral bouquet but kill plants too quickly. My sofas have enough greenery that I don't need plants. Paint is neutral ivory throughout the house. Lots of neutrals without visual drama is certainly what I see everywhere, but I have never felt a need to care about trends. I bought quality that has lasted many decades. Thank you for sharing what you did, pointing out trends (e.g. baseboards) and never saying, "You should..." because some of us buck trends and are content.

My mom has just began dementia so we are at the first part of this horrible journey and she has always been very clean and her house has always looked very designer. I don’t know where this came from but she has gone crazy with hot pink! It first started out with her a little pop of color as she calls it and it has taken over and we can’t talk to her about it because she gets just downright mean. She has shopped till she dropped for hot pink, I walk into her home now and I am literally blinded. It’s funny yet sad all in one. I mean we have just let her have it I mean it’s color it’s not hurting anyone except she is spending so much money doing it and that’s where we become concerned. It’s just crazy though I can’t even explain.

My mom went crazy with orange in her bedroom. What we found out was she needed cataract surgery. Once she had the surgery and could see more colors she removed the orange replace it with other colors.

@@JoDee7986 My mom does not see well because she has macular degenerative disease in both of her eyes but she knows it’s hot pink and she will tell you how she loves the hot pink and how pretty it is.She is at the beginning of dementia so it’s not like she’s gone yet you know what I’m saying it’s just something she never would’ve chosen in her entire life until now. But I can see exactly what you’re saying about not being able to see the color. The entire family wishes we couldn’t see the color though.

Liz, I have a question about rugs. I have a bohemian style rug that I love! It’s large and in our living room, it’s predominantly blue and cream… but some of the designs on it are green, burgundy, pink, and orange. Which is best to use as accent color with my decor? Love all of your advice in this video! Great tips!

    • @annnoyez

I would say the colors you love... mine are 2 main colors orange and blue torkoois and all pops of colors of fuchia and lime and my curtains are made of tons of stripes of different colors. It depends on where you live. I even paint flowers on the walls when I think about it. My house is really bohemian. Whit blue torkoois and green couches and my rugs are about yours with tons of different colors. My sidelamps are with beads and my furniture is painted different colors with flowers and greenery and I have tons if plants. Because we have a very dark long winter... if you live in California or like Arizona, I would paint my whole house white and use a lot of cool tones. And also a lit of plants. Because you have lots of sun and but if you live in a desert area, I would also go with lots of colors. So that it makes you happy... and that is what a house should do, make you happy, not someone else bit the person who live in that house. You do you and don't be afraid to try something else that you haven't seen before. You and your family has to love it. Not the neighbours not family, just you. Someone with a gray and beige house will not get in tha magazines. Bit the houses that has personality and are daring gets in the important magazines. Not that's what I want. But just saying. Go crazy... go you..

I have paneling too. My landlord said I couldn't paint but then supplied white paint to touch up the cabinets. Plus. I got free paint from the home makeover stores from people who recycle their old paint. The stores will give it away. We have aubochaun hardware here in maine. They gave me white and teals and yellows. So far I've painted the kitchen that was lenolium and old kitchen greased up paneling on the walls. Taking before pictures and after pictures just in case he tries to say I messed up the walls. Well fortunately for him if I ever move out or worse the space I originally agreed to rent will look ten times better. There's no way he can say that I ruined it. If anything he'll be able to rent it for more

O dear... looking more expensive... first all I find that really having no imagination. And all these same living rooms and other rooms that have tons of beige and gray, they look all alike. No personality at all. My mom's house is like that, a friend of mine is like that, your spaces are like that. It gives me the shiver. So boring. A pop of color wauw a piece of furniture with a pop of color. Even the worst furniture is beautiful on that dull space. I dont know why people want their livingspaces to look like "fashion" spaces in magazines. My house and my spaces are mine, and I do what ever I want with it. I dont care if the whole world think it's awful. It is I who has to live in it. So no I don't give a s*** about fashion in housing. In cloths either but that's another thing. If you live in a place where there are lots of dark days, I need color. And I see my friends are taking over my vision to. My walls are blue and orange and fushia and there are tons of flower prints and learning to use a rug 😂😂😂. Mu rig has o ly one thing to do... that is making that I can run around barefoot even in winter. I have a lot of rugs. A huge one and small rugs on top of it in all colors. I dont think there are spaces where there are neutral tones, except a few antique closets who are very dark. But all the rest is one color plate. With respect for the colorwheel.. if I like something I can enter my home. Yes it's a boho space, in every part of my house. The only thing I still have to do is my kitchen who is white. Gonna paint all the doors of the cabinets in all different colors and I am gonna paint flowers and greens onto it. And then my house will be like I like it. Does it look expensive? For me it is priceless. Does somebody likes it? I don't care. I like it. That is all rhat matters. You will not find a house like mine often. And I lice it. And all these beige and white and gray and black people... nope... go and watch the trends. In 10 years from mow you will hate it en will change it. Not because you like what it will become, nope because the fashion industry is telling you to. That is so pity. I only gave 1 tip. Do what you want and what you like. If you really like beige feel free. But make sure it is you. And most everybody's home...
