    Without a doubt a 2 loss teams make the playoffs and yea a 2 loss team can get hot and win it all. There is a lot of teams that lose early especially on the road then just get better and better every week

    I like the 12 team playoff for the same reason a lot of other fans do. As a fan of a good, but not powerhouse program (Iowa), a national championship is a once in a lifetime (hopefully!) thing. But making a 12 team playoff? it's realistic to expect that once every 3-5 seasons, and who knows, maybe even win a game or two once we are in every decade.
    Totally understand the reasons against it, but as a Hawkeye fan I think its a good thing.

      Games are played on the field not paper and I agree. Injuries are apart of the game and you never know who gets hot or lose an important player like FSU.

    With this format it's possible to put a FOUR loss Big 12 champ in the playoff.

    the old boise teams could have cinderella'd it up. they weren't going to have 2 losses but they could have gotten the auto qualifier , then gone on a run. they were good enough to pull that off. the old byu teams at the height of the lavel edwards era could have. possibly marshall during the pennington/leftwich/moss years.

    College football has never had a two loss team win the title except for lsu in 2007. Hopefully I will never see that happened again. College football is supposed to be an elite teams with one loss or undefeated that’s always been the birth right of college football

    In 2022 after conference championship weekend two 3 loss teams were 8th and 9th in CFP rankings. It could happen again and get a 3 loss team in the playoffs.

    What were getting is a situation where a 1 loss georgia team and an undefeated Florida state team don't get left out of the playoff like last year. Which is only a good thing. In the 4 team playoff there was always at least 6 to 7 teams that you could reasonably say had a chance to win it all thats why the 4 team playoff was so bad. Pate argues that the 12 team will diminish the regular season games but the 4 team already did that, If florida state and Georgia could go undefeated in the regular season and still get left out..

    I just went 10-2 with Texas in 2025, coming off a natty and beat the #1 ranked team that year, didn’t make the playoffs LOL sec had four teams go 10-2

  • @jpDragna

    I'm gonna pull a page for Josh's book here and say let's just wait and see. I'm thinking the playoff, coupled with the changes brought about by the transfer portal, has the potential to change predicted outcomes significantly.
    I think last year was just a small preview. The first round produced two close games that could have gone either way, but teams you didn't expect to win continued on. Texas would now be an SEC product, and Alabama decidedly was at the time. Maybe what happens is exactly what Josh says, Georgia also makes it in, and they prove why they were the best team last year. I have a feeling that we'll see more games like the SEC title. It was a pretty foregone conclusion that Georgia would win, Texas' victory over Alabama would be lessened, and the committee could stick a QB'less FSU team in without too much fuss. Alabama won though, and then they and the team they lost to that the committee pushed in solely because they beat Alabama, "The Team That Took Down Georgia", both lost in the first round of the 4 team playoff. Please I want everyone to tell me that's what they expected, and there wasn't a cadre of pundits saying that a 2 loss SEC team that somehow beat Georgia was guaranteed to roll over Michigan.
    The games were close, we of course were a possession away from having a Texas-Alabama final, but that's the beauty of a playoff where you can't just stick an entire conference in. Funny things happen when you let teams play the game on the field.

    Last year, Mizzou started the season unranked and finished in the top 10. They would have made the 12 team playoffs if it was there last year. Unlikely but they COULD have won the national championship. That would’ve been a Cinderella story no doubt.

    Auburn was the first two loss team to be put in the CFP ranking top 4 in 2017 over an undefeated Wisconsin team and one loss Oklahoma team. I'll never forget that because the strength of scheduled mattered in that moment. Then Auburn got a 3rd loss and it was history. A two loss team will get in the playoffs. The question is now, Will a three loss team get in?

    • @richarddexter7641
      @richarddexter7641 23 дні тому +1

      Actually, the question is, "Will a four loss team get in." A three loss team is inevitable: In 2023, the highest ranked 3-loss team was LSU at #13. Both Utah and Kansas St had 3 losses in 2022, and were ranked #8 and #9 respectively, which easily would have gotten them in in the current system.

    Well for starters there aren't going to be twelve 1 loss teams. So multiple 2 loss teams. With the automatic qualifier conf champ bids, you could honestly have a 4 or 5 loss team. If you're talking about at-large bids, no more than 2 losses.

    • @derekmcbride7888
      @derekmcbride7888 27 днів тому

      12 teams being undefeated or only have 1 loss is unlikely, but very possible. This is especially true with how big these conferences are. There are scenarios where the top 3-4 teams in a conference all have 0-1 losses.
      Like I said, unlikely, but still possible.

  • @derekmcbride7888
    @derekmcbride7888 27 днів тому

    Having no 2-loss teams in the playoff is definitely possible. Here's how.
    If Ohio St goes undefeated in regular conference play, Oregon, Penn St, and Iowa only lose to Ohio St, and Ohio St loses in the BIG10 Championship, this guarantees 4 BIG10 teams only having 1 loss at the end of conference championship week.
    Similarly, If Georigia goes undefeated in regular conference play, Alabama, Texas, and Ole Miss only lose to Georgia, Texas A&M only loses to Texas, and Georgia loses the SEC championship game, then we would have 5 teams in the SEC having 1 loss at the end of conference championship week. This assumes all the teams above wins their out-of-conference games.
    If at least the BIG12, ACC, and the G5 champs all have less than 2 losses, there's exactly 12 teams that will all have good enough records to make the playoffs. If things happen in the BIG12 and the ACC similar to the BIG10 and SEC and the G5 champ has less than 2 losses, then we will have more than 12 teams with less than 2 losses that will all have good enough records to make the playoffs.

      A 3 loss team getting in would take alot of help. Perfect storm could easily be they lose 2 out of conference games (say Texas for example) they lose to michigan and Utsa upsets em in a heart breaker. They then run the table in conference play make the sec title game and lose to uga in a rematch in Atlanta. That 3 loss texas team would be hard to keep out. But they would need help wouldn't be a lock imo.
      Thoughts?

      @Jus-Too-Smoove it could be anyone from a power conference really. If any power 4 team loses all there nonconference games (sec has 4 so even a 4 loss team could make it technically) if they win all their conference games and win the conference they're in automatically.
      Clemson could lose to uga citadel and I believe app state is their non con go undefeated in the acc win the acc and get a first round bye with a loss to citadel on their resume.
      Now are these things likely 🤣 hell no. But possible for sure given the autobids for conference champions

    Expanding the playoffs to 12 teams will only complicate matters. People thought it was bad before are in for a surprise. Undefeated or 1 loss smaller schools will get in or get snubbed by power 5 teams with 2 losses.
    I don’t see this playoff format being settled until they at least go to 24 teams. Make the schedule 9 games. All conference maybe 1 rivalry game non-conference. Good schools make the extra money playing in more bowl games. Similar to basketball but longer breaks. Nothing else will suffice as technically any top 24 team is capable of an upset or going on a run.
