    Use Nichicon PJ Series 105C caps! Just recapped a 1998 Sidekick ECU. It had two PJ series Nichicon's one 47uF 50V and one 47uF 25V. There was also one Rubycon 47uF 25V. Since I have an ESR meter and capacitance meter (a lot of regular voltmeters can do this) I checked them...The Nichicon's tested out like new whereas the Rubycon's ESR was twice as high as the Nichicons and the capacitance was a little low (44uF). Although the Rubycon was still good enough, the Nichicon's ESR values were half of the Rubycon's. For the most reliable caps get the Nichicon PJ Series.

    Thanks for the video! I got a 1994 with a bad ECM, I need to pull in a couple of days. It's gotta be bad caps. I live in Arizona and it gets super hot here. Drys electrolytic caps. right out.

      On a '94 model, from all that I have studied, the chances are good that it is the exact same problem as the one in this video. Mine is working fine now.

    I think your 1995 ECU will be looking for the thermoprobe input from the EGR circuit, and will throw a code 51, if you’re putting this into a 1993 vehicle.

    • @nunapitchuk
      @nunapitchuk  5 років тому +1

      It is going in a '95 vehicle to replace the '93 ECU that was in the car. To make the '93 ECU not cause a check engine light I just unplugged the the EGR. It was working fine, but now I have this one in the car and it is also working fine with the EGR plugged in. No codes yet.

    Heya! Great video mate! Just a question: my ECU is repaired but now when I turn on the engine, the RPM stays at 800...there's no "peak" when I turn the key on...it just start and so...also it doesnt go up with rpm when the engine is cold. I know it usually go up to 1400/1500rpm till it went hot enough...Can you please tell me what can be the issue causing this? Thanks!

    • @nunapitchuk

      My first thought is that the temp sensor, below thermostat housing, might not be working. You can can talk to me more about it on my face book page, suzuki sidekick restoration project.

    • @Inisfad
      @Inisfad 5 років тому +1

      Leo LADA You don’t advise what your engine is - the 8v and 16v have different set ups for cold start. The 8v has a throttle opener that remains open for about 5-10 seconds, and gives you an rpm of about 2000 rpm, then drops to 1500. After that, both engines are the same, and are governed by a mechanical wax pellet valve that provides additional vacuum as the engine heats up to melt the was.

    • @leolada1546
      @leolada1546 5 років тому

      @@Inisfad Uh yeah sry :) 8v engine here

    • @Inisfad
      @Inisfad 5 років тому +1

      Leo LADA Do you still have the problem? Frank Cook advises that you should check the coolant temp sensor - which you should, although your problem may be elsewhere. This is what advises the ECU whether your engine is cold or hot. It’s the round blue/green sensor on the right side (as in right hand drive) of your engine. Check the connections at that sensor, as well as the ohm reading across it. When your engine is cold, that ohm reading should be 3000 ohms or more. If that sensor is not operating properly, the ECU doesn’t know if the engine is hot or cold. Also, the 8v engine has two vacuum solenoid valves that sit together at the front of the engine - one is blue/green and the other is brown. The brown one is the VSV for the throttle opener. If you follow the vacuum line from that brown VSV back to the rear of the engine, you will find the throttle opener - on the engine, sitting across and slightly down from where the distributor is. It has a diaphragm in it that can be open or closed. The default position of the throttle opener is open (which would give you vacuum and cause your idle to be high). When the ECU comes on line, that brown VSV energizes and provides vacuum to the throttle opener, which then closes. So, you may want to check the throttle opener - make sure that it’s open when the engine is shut off, and that you can (very carefully, so that you don’t rip the diaphragm) move the diaphragm open and closed. The wax pellet valve, however, is not connected to the ECU or the electronics of the car in any way, and if this is operating properly, you should have a cold rpm of about 1500 or so, when the engine first starts. This is located behind a metal plate to the right of the throttle position sensor. If you take the metal plate off, you should see an air port on the right side of the housing, when the engine is cold. This is what provides extra vacuum to the valve. If you want more info, you may want to post on Suzuki-forum.com.....

      I have never worked on an 02 model, but my first guess is weak battery or poor connection to battery because when the computer does not get a full 12V then it does things like you describe.
