This channel is a gold-mine for someone like me who is passionate about cinema and all its aspects, especially Hindi cinema. Thank you FC, and keep doing what you do!
Film companion is always full of surprises .Uploads a video at 9am Monday Morning .wow and that too with the people we least expect 'THE LYRICISTS'❤❤This is why i love film companion .
There's one music director Amaal Malik, who always gives credit to even the person who was on piano or anything. Whether it's in his ain't post oR music, he always gives brief names of every person who's worked in that song. HATS OFF!!
37:08 Swanand Kirkire has not written Bawara Mann from Jolly LLB; He has written Bawra Mann Dekhne Chala Ek Sapna from older film Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi
After getting drowned in qala album, how could I miss this adda. For me, words have to make sense. Then comes music, then singer, and then picturisation. Song writers/ lyricists deserve all the applause esp ones present n past who written sensible songs.
I cried, I actually cried listening to all of these lyricists who I have always seen as heroes. I absolutely LOVE all of them for the words that have kept me company in good and bad times. I go back to their words all the time. I keep understanding them anew. Fortunately, I have friends who also get together and talk about the beauty of Varun Grover, Swanand Kirkire, Anvita Dutt, Kausar Munir, Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics. I know things need to be a lot better for lyricists, but I just wanted to let you know, if you are reading this at all, that I cannot tell you how much I love, respect and value your art. I am grateful for what it has brought to our lives. More power to you, and I hope we, as a society and as an audience, learn to treat you and your words better. Only love
As a person who gets moved the most by the lyrics while listening to a song, I identify, follow and value these people a lot. Thank you so much Film Companion for bringing these gems together. It was a treat to watch.
FC, I can't adequately express how glad I am that this chat happened. Lyricists are simply not credited/acknowledged enough in the industry. It's too damn unfair. And this lot rocks!! Wish Irshad Kamil and Prasoon Joshi were here too.
It is important for interviewers to be good listeners and good communicators and Anupama, you do that consistently well. I love all your interviews, sometimes even when you're interviewing people I haven't heard of! Keep it up!
Anupama and the team of Film Companion, thank you so much for such amazing content, especially during these trying times- for not giving up despite the barrage of mean comments I've seen on the channel. This has been the best part of the many gloomy days during the pandemic! Best wishes to you
2 years ago in writers adda Varun mentioned that in eros channel they don't give credit to the lyricist in their UA-cam description, he gave example of Ranjhana. If you visit now still the lyricist Irshad Kamil's name is not mentioned. Sad
Bro you can’t fit everything in the title or description. Some people try to find the song by the name of the actor or director or music director & mostly singer. Lyricists hardly matter these days, most of the songs are bad & auto tune singers can make anything sound catchy so who cares about the lyrics ?
@@shadowsmessage I don't agree with that. Knowing a lyricist as an audience maybe it will be not so important but it's important to the lyricist itself. He should get his credit for his work. Just imagine your work in a job got no recognition and you are slogging daily, it's like that. And check out zee music UA-cam channel they give credit to everyone associated with one song. It's not that time consuming to give someone there due.
Music is such a rocket science for me, I have no clue how it happens its like magic. Lyrics is the most important part for me to like a song and the way it complements with the music just blows me away. I have created a playlist of my fav songs on youtube its called Nona Prince Music
Irshadsaab should have been there one felt. And lot of respect for Kirkiresaab. He has such a simple yet profound way of looking at things. He’s very underrated as a creative. Nice perspective overall. Hope this extends to other technicians like editors, cinematographers, sound engineers, etc.
Wow! All my favorite lyricists are here! Was waiting for this for a very long time! Amitabh B. ( Manmarziya/Lootera, Naav/Udaan, DevD) Swanand K. (Dhak Dhu/ English Vinglish) Varun G. (Masaan, Gangs of Wasseypur) Anvita D. (Kinare/Queen) Kausar M. (Secret Superstar)
This was an absolute delight. We need more of this. Creators and artists speaking up and discussing their art. We have conceded Bollywood to the actors and stars for way too long. Nobody talks about the lyricists, the cinematographers, the editors, the sound designers, even the composers or directors sometimes. It's all about the A list actors and the glorified stars.
we as a audience have power that we can demand name of lyrics writer by constantly searching them on google when we like lyrics of song because that way will create demand of there name in the market more and then it will be a obligation to write there name while giving credit for songs
They have a WA group ❤ "We are contempraries not competitors". So well said! Love their songs, know who they are, look out for their work. Long live the tribe! And get its credit too. Loved this session 😃
This is really worth a watch! ❤️🙌💯 I so wanted to see this since very long time. I have a huge respect for all the Lyricists❤️🎵 And yes, Aakashwani/Vividh Bharti still announces the name of the Lyricist everytime, and I really appreciate it! :) More power to everyone in this conversation!😊🎵🙏
I consciously look for lyricist's name in a song. Lyricists are probably the most important part of a song. Because most of the time it's only the lyrics that stay with you for a long time. They should be given their due recognition.
I wish to see the lyricist-Music director duos. Like Gulzar-Vishal Irshad-Pritam, Irshad-ARR Shelly-Amit Trivedi Swanand Kirkire-Amit Trivedi Amitab-Pritam I would love to see it.
LOVE this so so much. Content like this is why I love Film Companion. And appreciated the discussion on the lack of Lyricist credits. That really needs to change and I think lovers of the music on UA-cam can make a difference by commenting everywhere its missing.
Anupama, A song is mainly a creative effort of the music director, lyricist & the singer. It's almost like asking for the moon. But please try to do a chat show with two triumvirates Javed saab-Shankar Mahadevan- Sonu nigam and Gulzaar-Vishal Bhardwaj- Sukhwinder singh, together. Anyone agrees?
It's so refreshing to see you highlighting the hardwork, talent and unrequited love affair of these artisans in films. Hindhi films are always made a memoir by their music and these are the artists behind that art. Thank you for recognizing them.
How can anyone listen to a superbly written piece of poetry, where the arrangement of words is a total masterpiece and not look up who wrote it! Lyricists 100% deserve more credit. I absolutely loved this episode!
Thank you so much @Filmcompanion for bringing lyricist on your platform. Request you to do in depth interviews with each one of them. Also missed Irshad kamil here.
It is so heartening to see that FC is giving these incredible artists their due. It is things like this that makes FC such a brilliant and refreshing platform for everything related to movies. More power to you! :)
We love love absolutely loved love hindi movie songs, so can't fathom movies without them! And thank you for putting up such an lyrical lyricists "adda"!!
Kudos to FC for acknowledging people who've long been relegated to invisibility in Hindi cinema. Great work, Anupama and team! You're definitely leading the way for such pertinent discussions today.
I love it when Varun Grover is added to the panel and absolutely hate it when he is not given enough scope to speak. He is not the kind to intervene and speak so the onus was on Anupama to provide him opportunity to speak. But I loved the interview and this is such a great idea.
Thank you to all who continue help make a film/song to what it is even when you are not mentioned and appreciated. Your talent is special and means so much to us. You help us escape from the realities of this world and allow us to exist in worlds inside our minds.. and even inspire us to create our own...
This has probably been one of my favorite film companion videos. Kudos to everyone on there. Want to say that even if the composers remember or not, we as an audience are always looking for the writers of the beautiful lyrics in songs we listen to :)
What Swanand said about the radio - that's so important. A lot of this change can happen if we as listeners start caring about the names of lyricists and radio still has a large part to play in that. Private radio stations NEVER mention the composers and lyricists, seldom mention the singers. All India Radio has still managed to hold onto this ritual somehow.
Loved this interview! Thanks for highlighting the commonly overlooked lyricists and their amazing bodies of work. Would love to see and hear more of them, as well as other artists and professionals that don't get their shares of the limelight either. Thanks FC team and Anupama for conducting the interview with such enthusiasm :)
Thanks for doing this! For quite some time I've been thinking about the lyrics that touch us and the lyricists that never get the level of recognition and appreciation that they deserve. I wanted to hear Rashmi Virag, who has written an amazing song, Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon! Its a request, please approach that gem, would love to hear him too!
Loved every bit of this chat.. it reminded me.of.a.similar chat with composers some time ago.. music is incomplete without words and lyrics writers are way too important to be ignored.
Hats off to this lady. Her continues efforts and understanding of everything and every part of aspects in the world of art and cinema is commendable. She handles it all, and deals with everyone perfectly. In the urge to write lyrics, hope to be interviewed by you in future as a upcoming lyricist or in any other artist list. God bless you ma'am. Vivid bharati (radio channel) has always mentioned the lyricist's name. Coz of that even as a young girl I could identify the style of writing of the different lyricists. The more "modern" radio jockeys don't always mention their name, which is frustrating as a listener. So glad that video was brought out. ❤️🙏
What immense fun it was to listen to all of them. At the start I did feel the conversation was a bit not in the flow but after Anvita, it all felt way more organic. It's sad that lyricist don't get their due and it is because many think it's just a small part. The argument put by Swanand that in OTT platform we aren't getting those songs anywhere it's so true. I so much want netflix to release Sacred Games' songs shout out to Rajeshwari Dasgupta for Dhuan Dhuan my favourite song.
It is so striking that they are not talking about INDEPENDENT song/audio industry, which is too weak in Bollywood. But Hollywood is there without songs and since century!

👏👏👏 @ 39:00 Big Thanks & Hugs to Varun for mentioning the apathy of Editors too!
I'm sorry but even the article that you are promoting isn't doing any justice with the song writers.
mam plzz bring or make online conversations with 'bengali' actors/directors 🔥💓

Varun Grover will be in your Comedians adda, Lyric writers adda, Script writers adda and what not. What a guy!!

Im the one who always search who has written this song.
Yes. I can't imagine not knowing who is the person behind the beautiful words that have awed me or touched me.
I agree. Every time I listen to a good song with meaningful lyrics, I look up the name of the lyricist. Again, same with shitty lyrics😅
