Have to agree with Peter, straps can be a life saver. I had a totally seized oil filter that required some serious strong arm causing the bike to roll of the center stand, the straps stopped the bike falling on me. The bike is starting to come together. Happy New year Norman and all your viewers.
Hi Neil, now I am wondering how I got away with it all these years😱. Normally on the Big Blue Lift and firmly ‘bolted’ on, but of course not when it is on the centre stand. Good points, thank you 🙏
Hi Norm, Might be a good idea to place a strap from the centre stand to the front wheel when rocking the bike. Doesn't need to be tight, just enough to stop rolling forward and off the stand. I did this to my R1250GSA when I had both wheels off at the same time to change tyres. Enjoying your vids, many thanks. Rgds Peter
That is such a brilliant idea, thank you. Twice it has happened to me with this 1150GS but I leave the side stand down as protection…your idea is better, 😊
Another tip Norm If you have brakes (maybe yours is not complete yet due to your modifications) it’s also a good trick to apply the front brake lever temporarily with a strap to stop front wheel rotation but of course the front wheels needs to be on the ground. Cheers and Happy New Year also. Rgds Peter
Hi Norman, next time the bike is on big blue can we see how you support under sump please. Do you block under the sump first to get the height right and then do the under the pegs supports? Thanks in advance. Happy new year to you and your family. Paul.
Just a thought .. maybe another good video. Now that the exhaust is mounted up 🙃 you would probably thank yourself to re pack the exhaust can.. sounds so nice and fresh when it's done ✅
@@normski3091 yeah... You just punch the rivet pins (snap punch works best fore) drill and release the inner chamber take it apart. And I never go and find some fancy exhaust packing. I have found standard household insulation works just fine. But obviously do as you are comfortable! Still love watching you Norm. Have a blessed new your sir
Hello Norm, hope you're both well and had a nice Xmas and New year. She's starting to come together now isn't she? Can I just say, whoever paid for those pipes to be powder coated must firstly be a very decent chap /lady, but also must be very happy and content to see how they turned out. Can't wait till the next one, I think I'm more excited than you are 😂👍 Take care sir, stay safe Happy New year everybody
You are so right Robert. I am so obsessed with the dread of seized parts I put copper grease on everything that moves…and I did coated the sensor threads even though I didn’t show it 🤗
Hi Norm, I have been so interested in your videos, and what you've done. I have a'99 R1150GS still going strong and I ride regularly, through several Southern African countries. Thanks for all your videos, most instructional on all levels! I have a question: the Magnesium valve-covers on my 1150GS are a bit scratched and slightly beaten -- what would be the best way of painting them? I have heard from some that powder coating cannot be done without some special procedure, others say rubbish! Any ideas? They are silver, I'd like to stick to the original paint scheme. All the best and keep riding! Greetings from South Africa. S
Hi Steve, how great to hear from you. I have close links with South Africa with my son and his wife living in Johannesburg. I work two days a week remotely for the same organisation where Ben my son is a highly qualified printer. Came out for the first time in 2019 and fell totally in love with the country. Great to hear you have a 1150GS. I am waiting, and very worried, for Two Brothers in Sheffield to tell me my petrol tank is ready to collect. They sandblasted it and I filled in all the dents, which they rejected, so I did it yet again. Took it back first week in December and all they keep telling me is that they have issues with it 😱, but leave it with them another week which has been the same story for a month. I also want to ask them if the valve covers can be powder coated. I cannot see why not as they are metal but maybe it is because they are an aluminium alloy. The minute I get the answer I will let you know 🤗
Hi Paul, on the Big Blue lift I raise it to see where the sump support comes to and normally (every bike is different) I put an appropriate size block of aluminium under the sump do it touches. Then adjust the peg supports to fit. It is a fiddle, but worth it in the end 🤗😊
Hi Martyn, went for a days ride around Lincolnshire with two IAM top guys yesterday so lost a day in the garage. Hope to finish another one within a day or two latest 🤗
Yep, £200, but when a subscriber saw me give up at trying to remove the headers with all bolts seized solid he said if I could post a video of me succeeding then he would pay for the coating 🤗🥳. Talk about an incentive, the money was transferred within 10 minutes of me uploading that UA-cam episode 😁
When will the great Normski open up the removed ABS system to see if he can fix it or at least find out what caused it to fail, if you’d like this to be done start commenting.😉
Thanks norm for sharing mate.
Thank you Phil 👍
The exhaust is fantastic ! 👏👏👏👏
All that work to remove it has already been forgotten 🤣🤣🤣

Well that is an idea I never thought of. Actually didn’t know it could be done ….will search now 🤗

Lovely job on the exhaust coating. Expensive????
