Great finish. Im glad someone beat jumbo, they were so many of them and none were willing to race. I like their team, I was rooting for them last year, but man they really aren't racing so far. Edit: also what's up with all the flats. I've never seen that many riders get flats in such a short amount of time. Aren't they also riding much wider tires, doesn't make sense.
I think they are letting UAE blow themselves up. If anything UAE needs to be controlling as they have yellow and both stages had Poggie's name written all over them. Unless they are on crazy form, no way UAE can keep up this amount of work for the whole tour. We'll see some more interesting racing from jumbo in the mountains. Imagine thinking it would be a good idea for Jonas to pull with Pog to the finish line (where the better sprinter will win and get most bonus seconds aka Pog) instead of holding back for the group with WVA who can actually beat Pog in a sprint. You guys are so dumb that i wonder if you stop thinking on purpose.
@scpython1 I think Jumbo-Visma were simply put under pressure by Bilbao on the descent, they had to work pretty hard to catch him, and then they had to shut down the brief attacks from Buchmann, Pidcock and Skjelmose. No one was going to help them chase as it would benefit van Aert more than themselves. Kelderman looked like he was pretty much in the red when Lafay attacked. I also have a feeling that van Aert might've expected Vingegaard to help lead him out.
I think that Jonas (and Jumbo Visma's racing director, it's fair to underline) didn't pull for Wout not really to save energy (200m aren't too much of an effort if you think about it), but because doing the lead out in front of a sprint exposes you to the risk of some crashes, and it will definitely tear in pieces months and months of preparation.
Pissing off some of more important teammates is plain stupid too. Jonas show last year he couldn't have won without WVA, do you think he can this year?

Insane pull from Lafay in the final. Even if Wout had come up from after the last climb, when Jonas said he "waited for him so he could win", that finish from Lafay was insane, cofidis can finish tdf happy already but theyll prob be hungry for more. Tbh we all know on a flat finish, Pogi would win over Jonas 9/10 times. Big probs to Powless, Boasson Hagen and the frenchman? (ive completely forgottenhis name sorry) as well, did actually really good in the breakaway. Quite a shame the first breakaway attempt didnt go through, that could have been rough for the peloton but oh well. Pogi "digging" at Wout is just to get a few clicks for the media, it aint that deep ffs. Jonas and Pogi in my top 2 for gc, as every one else i assume, but the third spot is completely open, still 19 stages to go and everything can happen. Harsh, unpredictable is the main adjectives in this start
Should Jonas have pulled with Pogi? Maybe (Michael Rasmussen seems to think so when reading his column in Ekstra Bladet). While Pogi beats Jonas in a sprint like that 99 times out of 100, he'd only lose four seconds - which he did anyway - and maybe push Pogi into yellow, meaning daily doping tests and press talks, while Jonas can spend a little more time recovering. Should Jonas have pulled for Wout? Nope. Yellow > stages and/or green. If Jumbo wants Jonas to work for Wout, enter Jonas into races where Wout is the natural choice for captain. I'm sure Jonas would happily work for Wout under those circumstances.
Have no clue why they bought WA in the first place, is clear that he always put himself, before the team and his leader, if he dont get a victory, he won't work 100 % for Jonas.
Completely agree with the first part, but are you saying that one or two small pulls for van Aert would cost Jonas the tour? You don’t feel any of that in the following days, especially with an “easy” stage the following day and it might just be the difference between a stage win and second place. I completely get the decision they made in the moment, but I now feel that he should have helped a bit
@@kadafi1987 Wtf he puts himself before the team? he literally let laporte win a fucking classic, saved the tour for vingegaard last year in the cobble stage and dropped pogi on a climb last year as domestique for vingegaard, you clearly have no clue about van aert
@@kadafi1987 Because Wout Van Aert is the cyclist you want to bring to the tour. Did you even watch last tour? He is a versatile superstar not dirty of domestic work. That doesn't mean he should be a domestic every time, if they race a bit for him and he gets a few wins he gives his 110% for the team in the other stages what last year lead to the tour victory. He already sacrifices a lot of winning chances in the tour for Jumbo visma, this is a guy who can win 10 stages in a tour if he has a team riding for him alone.
It was clear Jumbo was targeting this stage. They came to the front many times. Huge chance of winning the stage through WVA if Jonas gave a pedal for his teammate. Anyway I'm happy for Lafay and seeing this I have one more reason to root for Pogacar and appreciate Roglic more, but it's a shame... I feel sorry for WVA
because this is his terrain. lots of shorter steep climbs with explosive sprints for bonus seconds. no one can beat the Pog there. it was like this every year. the ones he won, and last year, the one he lost. So far everything is going perfect for Jonas. limited bonus seconds for pog and no real time distances. can change quickly with a defect or a gap opening in the next races. But as long as it stays like this the TdF will be decided in the high mountains. there we see who is the strongest. because if you cant follow there its not about seconds but minutes.

He put a lot of emphasis on the early classics this year and then couldn't prepare perfectly for the TdF. while vingegards entire season was just a calm build up to this one event and nothing else. It's far too early but Jumbo Visma was said to have the better team than UAE. But at the moment it looks like UAE is the better team! Cofidis on the other hand had to wait for an astonishing 15 years until the next victory at the Tour de France. And no there wasn't any hesitation by Jumbo Visma - Lafay's attack was simply too strong and Jumbo Visma couldn't react any more! 😇
I think that UAE was trying to put Simon into the yelpow jersey. They wouldn't have to work and the brother of Adam would have got the jersey. Pog only sprinted when Jonas tried to get get the seconds...
Congrats to Cofidis and their look bikes. So nice to watch Pogacar and his team skills. A shame for vingegard mechanical, you can almost see him saying Fxxk SRAM 😅.
My goodness, it's just Day 2. So much drama. Pog had similar great success and time advantages early in last year's Tour and then caved. He is still a 2-time Tour winner, and will always be one of the all-time greats. Jonas' performance last year was epic, and he is well deserving of respect for that. Wout is an epic and exceptional rider well deserving of his accomplishments, efforts, and praise. No, there is no reason for Jonas to lead out for Wout. TJV should have lead out riders who are responsible for that. None of the other teams pursued Lafay when he took off. Are we also complaining about their teams and team captains as well? Wout will do just fine. He is a legend. Pog and Jonas are friends as well as fierce competitors. They will do just fine, win or lose. There will always be more races to compete in. TJV may be in a period of evolution. It's hard sometimes when a team has two riders both capable of winning the Tour or other races. Roglic was huge in Jonas' win last year, as was Wout. But it was Jonas' insane effort at the end of stage 11 that earned him the yellow jersey and ultimate win. Perhaps they all go their seperate ways, or just one or two of them. There are many teams that would jump at the chance to have either or more of the three of them. None of that erases the amazing success that TJV has had. Team Sky (now Team Ineos) had phenomenal (almost unbelievable) success in the Tour and other races for years, and then that fell apart. Such is life in competitive racing. I have always loved Yates as a rider and person. Happy for any success his brother and he have, and he is certainly a huge plus for Pog. This year's Tour has been exciting for sure. Hope it stays that way. There is a LOT of racing still to come, especially in the high mountains and in the Time Trials. There is also the uncertainties that the rioting has on the Tour. We shall see how things unfold. But regardless of the outcome, Pog, Wout, and Jonas are all exceptional top-tiered riders who will do and be just fine. Maybe they stumble in some stages or make mistakes, but that's just life. Jonas will not lose any sleep over this spat of criticism. He is patient and methodical. He avoids making careless mistakes. His only focus is Pog, and he knows that Pog can typically outkick him in a head-to-head sprint. So he doesn't stress about it. He was never going to outsprint Pog to the line in this 2nd stage. Maybe that costs him the Tour and maybe it doesn't. He will take his chances in the time trials and mountain stages. For all of them, just do your best and stay humble. Because karma can definitely bite hard in the arse. (PS) Huge congrats to Lafay. Well done!
Man Lafay rly putting on a shoh these first two days. He was completely under the radar for me. Also another dissapointment for MvdP. Not sure whats wrong there, the first two stages he was one of the big favorites for me

I was there on the final corner in san seb, lafay went around so quickly that the camera blurred out us in the crowd behind him on the corner lol. Awesome being there for an amazing finish. Great experience, especially for my first TDF stage in person.
Loving the Tour so far
Love the public, lanscapes, and, yes, the riders feeling at home with the passion of the aficionados.
Adam rode into the last climb, because Pogo and him wanted to give Simon Yates the bonus seconds. When Pogo noticed, that Simon didn't have the punch for it and Vingegaard would claim the 8 secs, he went for it.
Thanks! I needed this.
You have become the single best in-depth commentator in cycling. Impressive and humbling to see how far you've come, mate. Noone does it better.
Really amazing pog!
LOL @ the nature break footage! :> great job LR!
Pogacar is the funniest cyclist i ever seen.
I love to see him all the time,no matter he wins or loss.!
Agreed. He makes races fun to watch.
Loving the coverage this year! ❤

Pogacar reenacting Wout's tantrum to A. Yates and the laughing and shaking heads is hysterical!!!!!!
Kinda bad form IMO.
it was hilarious!!! lol
Cycling News have some articles up saying there were tacks thrown on the road.
Tracks thrown on the road accounted for some of the flats
Thanks for the replies, that makes sense. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned it during the tour (I watched on French TV).
Also, I see a lot of people going after Jonas for just sucking Pog's back wheel but it's exactly what he needs to be doing imho. No point in attacking him on these classic style stages.
Let the tour play out before jumping to conclusions after 2 days
@@waitbalthy6342 I agree with your take on Jonas. But the other riders for Jumbo could have ridden more aggressively for the stage win today. I was glad their mistake cost them.
Edit: it was clear they wanted the win because Wout was visably very frustrated and there were multiple team mates riding for him at the end.
I saw this finish yesterday, but was unaware of all the activity that took place before. I had a feeling the winning attack was golden at the time I saw it made. It was perfectly executed and the dude obviously has a great motor. Viva!

I didnt catch the Pogacar laughing at Wout but that was hilarious how he was talking to Adam and showing how he displayed his anger lmao 🤣🤣 Pogacar taking the piss at Jumbo Visma.

He mostly just held off Kelderman, who'd already been pulling the group for several km.

Quite a shame the first breakaway attempt didnt go through, that could have been rough for the peloton but oh well. Pogi "digging" at Wout is just to get a few clicks for the media, it aint that deep ffs. Majka in the poolside shades with the gradient tint. Nice style!
I didn't know Cofidis was still around. Last time i heard of them was in the 90s.
@@kadafi1987 why jumbo brought wva to the tour?
hmmm... maybe cos if they didn't, wva would leave jumbo?
JV is trying to win the tdf. Pretty understandable he is not doing lead outs for Wout tbh
UAE just looks like a fun team to be around with. Hope they crush everybody this year 😂
Pogacar is massively strong.
Agree looks ominous
because this is his terrain. lots of shorter steep climbs with explosive sprints for bonus seconds. no one can beat the Pog there.
it was like this every year. the ones he won, and last year, the one he lost.
@@youbetu18 Pog only really lost last year because he bonked Pog can do very high climbs and win em. Vingagard is only maybe able to take 30 sec on the highest climb but it will be close very close. I feel tho Pog has this Tour.
@@glywnniswells9480 he lost every major climb vingegaard attacked on last year (and also the year before actually) and the TT.
To be frank, while I do think they are usually equals over long climbs, I think Pog will get deleted this year because of his injury and suboptimal preparation into the tour de france. He put a lot of emphasis on the early classics this year and then couldn't prepare perfectly for the TdF. while vingegards entire season was just a calm build up to this one event and nothing else.
Of course, none of this will show until the long mountain stages. Pog is still more explosive but this year vingegaard follows with ease. Last year he entered the mountains around a minute down on pog. so far its going great for him.
BUT I would never count pogacar out. this is just my assumption. Pog always looks strong early, is always smiling. Id be surprised if he won this year. but it would not be the first time he surprises me!
@@glywnniswells9480 wanna talk some more after today? I hate so say I told you so. As much as I admire him. Pog doesn’t stand a chance this year with his injury it seems. But le tour is still Long. Maybe he recovers.

Extremely well done Lafay, congrats:)
Well, I don't think Pogacar was laughing at Wout van Aert. He was making fun of Wout van Aert's overreacting to his second place! 😛
It's only stage 2 of a 3 week Tour de France.

Well done!
What nice and fair and supportive comments! Yes, they will all do just fine 👍😌
No Roglic fo JV to do the same attack last year (stage 12).
