- Platypods are a new addition to my kit. I was introduced to Platypods through the Photographers In Cars podcast. In this video, I share 3 ways I’m using Playpods in my photography. What is a Playtpod? It is a small, versatile, and sturdy support bases for your camera. And they can go places a traditional tripod can’t.

You know my ears open up whenever there is gear talk! Thanks for the overview and the uses in the field! Will check them out!
Scott, I'm glad you like the Platypods. I've been using the MAX since 2016 when I went in on Kickstarter and help fund the development of them. I've used mine in various and sundry ways the last two years and like an Amex card, "Never leave home without it!" And, earlier this year I was at a PPA show in Nashville, TN where I met the inventor and founder of the company. I got to chat with him a few minutes and expressed to him my pleasure in using his invention. Looking forward to more videos on the way you use yours. Keep up the great Vlog, because your subscriber numbers keep increase and we all are telling you everyone loves your channel.
Very cool you got to meet the founder. I’m hopeful to make a trip to PhotoPlus in NYC this October. If I do, I’ll be visiting their booth (I’m assuming they’ll be there).
Cool thanks Scott
Hi Scott,
Platypods are very versatile tools as you described. I would add a 4th way - macro. Both in the studio and outdoors. Shooting macro photos of flowers close to the ground is a perfect application for the Platypod. A tripod can be very cumbersome in this situation. Shooting macro of subjects on a table in the studio is another application suited to the Platypod.
Great uses cases. I am certainly looking into using my Platypods in the studio more. I'm sketching out some videos where some close-ups of equipment are in order. I think the Platypod will fit the bill perfectly for those shots.
Great tips!
I had a Platypod but didn't like that the bolt couldn't be removed. So I bought a Decade plate (which has a removable bolt) and pocketed the difference.
Great video. I’ll check them out. Thanks for the info Scott.
Sure thing!
You convinced me that I need the Max. Thanks for answering my question!
Sure thing!
Thanks for the ideas. Now that I have an M5, M50, along with my FF Canon cameras your uses sound quite useful! I used your links, so I hope you get something.
Cool! And thanks for the support, Marty. Every little bit helps :-)
Another great video, Scott. Thank you very much. This looks like such a versatile option, and I was intrigued...Until I saw the UK price for the Max - £100, or thereabouts. I think that's way too much. If it was around the £75 mark, I'd bite... I'll stick with my SLIK mini and Gorillapod for now.
Ooh... that’s a surprise. Certainly a bit more dear across the pond.
Yes, I was shocked. We don't call it rip-off Britain for no reason ;-)
Hi There, I got from a hardware store a aluminum plate, shaped it to my needs, drilled the holes and presto-- a homey-pod for 15 dollars.

In the process of making mine :) After I saw the UK price
Scott loved your demonstration. I have a question before I invest in this, is it allowed in flights? Do you keep it in handbag or checked in luggage?
Hi Arnab ... I've done both, depending on the trip.
The metal plate in my head cost less than this thing.
Curious, been a while - are you still using the Platypods or are they a thing of the past in your kit?
I still carry my Platypod (it's so small, it takes next to no room in my bag). When I'm working in tight spaces, it remains helpful.
Can you tell me the name of the tripod head you are using?
Hi Marc ... assuming you mean the little orange one ... I *think* it's a Benro, although I'm not certain. I removed the ballhead from an older MeFOTO tripod I had and wasn't using anymore.
novoflex minipod nf3320 is at least 100x better than this platy..
