What do you think of the “Growing Threat” precon? Any cards we missed? Any cards we suggested to take out or add that you disagree with? How did you feel about the smaller budget for the upgrade guide?
Maybe I'm the minority, but I'm a bit disappointed that you reduced the budget. I was hoping to see the cool cards you can select with the freedom of the previous budget for this deck, and I'm seeing a lot of weak cards that I likely won't be adding. That aside, I still love the production value and all of you lovelies. ❤
I’m surprised Skrelv’s Hive didn’t get a honorary mention.
Its low mana, creates Phyrexian Artifact creature tokens that have Toxic that die really easily (cos people will chump them as opposed to poison), and can give the Incubate tokens lifelink if Corruption is on.
@@plasnaniaabsolutely!
I waited excitedly to be shown junk... Even budget commander Timer did 30
Brimaz doesn’t say when a phyrexian dies, proliferate, it’s an end of turn trigger. Totally differenr
@@randywright7764 My point is you're almost always guaranteed to have a Phyrexian die on your turn at least.
Plus, they're useful sac fodder.
Bring back the precon battles !
I second that motion! 😀
Think it was the star city guys who did the precon face off.
@@trizkit995 They used to battle precons against each other on Game Knights (it was back when they were only released once a year), but it's been a long time since they've done so.
I like the ones where they face off the upgraded precons
They did with brothers war just wait for the new set to fully come out
So basically:
Cards to add:
Myr Convert
Scholar of New Horizons
Costly Plunder
Spawning Pit
Chronomancer
Annex Sentry
Mite Overseer
Phyrexian Walker
Everflowing Chalice
Inspiring Statuary
Cards to remove:
Soul of New Phyrexia
Shimmer Myr
Psychosis Crawler
Ancient Stone Idol
Scytheclaw
First-Sphere Gargantua
Orzhov Locket
Shattered Angel
Coveted Jewel
Duplicant
Expensive cards to consider:
Mondrak, Glory Dominus
Resourceful Defense
Door of Destinies
And my own suggestions :)
Replace Phyrexian Rebirth with Sunfall
Phyrexian Arena
I'd keep phyrexian rebirth because Brimaz cares if it dies, not exiles. I would add sunfall.
@@jonathanstead5135 its a boardwipe tho... what exactly are you going to proliferate
@@flurifiction the existing incubation tokens, some of the cards they've mentioned or yourself. Phyrexian rebirth gives you the monster upfront if going for the creature whereas you have to still pay for sunfalls creature
I'd prefer the upgrades to stay in the 25-30 dollar range. Or offer.both options.
I’m pretty sure this budget is unique to Murph, so I wouldn’t worry
Plus he went ahead and showed three much more expensive cards if you want to spend more. So we basically did get both.
I don't. Whenever they talk about a card, that card jacks up in price.
i guess the neat thing about the living weapon cards is that the germ is a 0/0, so as soon as you unequip it you can get your commander's trigger. it provides the body and the sac outlet for it in one, while leaving something behind.
Disciple of the Vault is also a great upgrade if you’re going the sacrifice-artifacts route!
A couple cards that I thought worked really well in this deck that I added to mine were from the main set of March of the Machine: Norn's Inquisitor and Attentive Skywarden. Norn's Inquisitor makes your Incubators transform into Phyrexians they get an additional counter and when the Attentive Skywarden deals combat damage to a player (it has flying) you can transform an Incubator for free.
Love the change to $10 upgrade, especially with Precons getting more and more expensive
I wish they did a - optimized upgrade for those that do not have budgets. Let’s just see how crazy we can make it
@@hunterransom2594 Edhrec is your friend
Just add in the honorable mentions, duh lol
@@hunterransom2594 It would be probably include the same old crap you see in every other deck with a high price tag.
@@hunterransom2594 I don't necessarily need a budgetless upgrade, but I'm definitely not a fan of the $10 limit change. I feel like that is too restrictive.
I was really excited for this one and when the list was spoiled I got sad .
I just ordered the commander and built this as infect.
Works great :)
I have to say, I love when Murph is on because of his End Step segments. His passion for retro gaming is infectious.
I find it odd that we can't get something like door of destiny in a clearly tribal deck, but the knight Eminence deck gets a vanquisher's banner.
I think $25 upgrade is better than the $10
Yeah $10 upgrade is a joke.
Especially in a deck with booty cheeks reprint value
I think when the deck itself costs like $30-$35, $10 is a great budget
Hot take right here
@@minine6508 30-35? Where do they cost that?
It seems like teshar and moira and cards that support it really hurt the deck.
On the other hand, it was easy to choose what to take out when you upgrade it. When I was setting out to update the deck I just got all the mite cards from the last set.
They're artifact creatures that are ALSO phyrexian. They can be sacked to just about any outlet, trigger Brimaz's proliferate, AND give poison counters.
Pop in essence of orthodoxy from the Jumpstart start set and you incubate 2 for each mite you create.
Put in mondrak, glory dominus (which is thankfully only $20 now) and you double all the tokens you create.
This was my train of thought for this too and then looking to add some of the Preators, Gix for draw and hopefully stealing some stuff from people, original and new Sheoldred for graveyard stuffs, and original and new Elesh Norn
I took out the golem support too because for the most part they don’t make phyrexian golems which won’t help with Brimaz’s second ability
@ChaoticZer0
I believe they have been errata-d to make phyrexian golems, but it's not the strongest sub theme, so no big loss either way. Except maybe the darksteel stitcher.
2 additional cards that seem to work pretty well in this deck, one budget and one more expensive.
Budget - Aron, Benalia's Ruin
Expensive - Wurmcoil Engine
I am always looking forward to your upgrade guides. Especially this time since I bought the knights deck. Please don’t tell me you are only doing 10 dollar upgrades guides.
I would definitely prefer the regular upgrade guides.
It would be interessting to have a small category where you try to find fitting cards in all the 10cards you took out of other precons. Maybe they can find a better spot in a deck.
Preferred the larger budget. I found it reasonable and there are other channels doing lower budget content.
I think that "growing threat" has a lot of the components that are wanted by the "Corrupting influence" precon :p edit: thank you Rachel and Murph, this was a fun episode :).
Definitely building Brimaz with a phyrexian center (Phyrexian tokens mostly). Also Splicers cuz they're Phyrexians that makes twice as many tokens. Throwing in Mites for that extra kick
Although I was tempted to combine Brimaz with Necrons since they're artifact creatures
I was listening to this on my way home and I had a gut feeling that Murph would say the Saturn. One of my favorite consoles of all time. Much respect, Murph.
I like the show and tell segment at the end!!
42:55 have you considered that a 0/0 token would just give you a proliferate for 2 mana? It's not much, but I'd say it can be worth it if you have a few other things on the board
Yeah right because as soon as you flip it it would die because it has zero toughness
I love the timestamps! Thanks
The regular precons are the same cost as the 40k decks now? 😮
Honestly, 30$ for the upgrade guide seems like an awesome spot to be.
I love out of time for this deck. You use your tokens and everyone else's creatures to phase the board out for 3 mana. The pay 2 to animate your biggest incubator. So so so strong.
I doubt it would run very well, but I am thinking to maybe mix my Ixhel deck (which is an upgraded Precon that includes both pre-MOM Vorinclex, as well as Phyrexian Vraska). It’s a Poison heavy deck, and Phyrexian tribal as well. I feel like Brimaz would work amazing with such a deck, since between Token generating when I create my Phyrexians, and proliferating when one dies, you can use him to really slam up the poison counters even more. Pair that with Mondrak, you have hordes of Phyrexians willing to kamikaze themselves so that they can spread their oil further and further.
You might say this budget upgrade was 'compleated' brilliantly
prototype artifact creatures from brothers war work really well with brimaz you can play them early and late for value
I thought Graaz, Unstoppable Juggernaut would be fun to add in as a finisher. turn all the 0/0's with counters into 5/3's with counters.
I think I'm going to add Ria Ivor Bane of Bladehold to the pre con along with some of the upgrades mentioned
Throw in a Throne of Geth fellas!!
Surprised the new Elesh Norn wasn't mentioned -- she and Brimaz seem like a match made in -Heaven- Phyrexia.
Its very good, but its a very expensive card for a budget upgrade guide
command zone always delivering
My skrelv deck is evolving into this!
Interesting deck. Kinda dissapointed in how it was built, but its the one I´ve been most excited to upgrade and main (though I have a phyrexian bias :b)
Finally a deck to make use of that "Phyrexian Walker" that I have lying around since Visions.
.
.
.
(It's not a good card. It never saw play anywhere in all those years since the 90s.)
Soul of New Phyrexia with Nevinyrral's Disk. Board lock for the win.
When is the MOM game knights episode going to come out?
For a $35-$40 deck, $10 doesn't seem like enough. If anything, this seems like it should be a $25 or $40 upgrade.
Did the video mention Idol of Oblivion? It'd be perfect card draw for this deck.
It’s absolutely shameful that a significant part of the reprint value is in the plane cards and only ONE niche card above 5? That we know is going to go down in price? This would have been an ideal place for esper sentinel, blind obedience (thematic!), All is dust, arcbound ravager, Wurmcoil Engine? Kaldra Compleat?
There were options.
shouldn't filligree vector be considered a 4 mana 2/2 cause it can use its ETB to self target
I believe I have about 35 Sol Rings. (I even have one proxy alt art version because I thought it was cool looking. 😊)
Talking about ramping into casting the commander, he is assuming you’ll have your commander out to help cast your commander… 36:56
Yo, where's Josh and Jimmy? Don't get me wrong, love Rachel and Murph but I miss my boys!
should have added phyrexian rager to the list that card is sweet here
I would recommend phyrexian marauder over walker.
It's an X cast so when you return it with scrap trawler triggers it is 0 mana. Dies right away and both creates the incubator token and triggers brimaz.
Sweet, I have most of these cards to add.
Bloated processor does the same job as Phyrexian ghoul but in a way that is way way more useful to what this deck wants to do. I've been having fun upgrading this as incubate tokens are my new fav generated artifacts.
Shout-out to Panzerr, wooot!❤
I am pretty high on ancient stone idol in a precon power level. That's a really big dude that leaves you with a pretty big dude if he gets killed. A lot of decks really struggle to deal with a 12/12 trampler coming at them.
I feel like thran turbine would be a good but possibly slow budget fit in here. It’d flip an incubate token each turn or help pay other ability costs :)
About the reprint value, also the decks are getting more expensive everytime, i think the reprint value should represent that as well.
Remember friends. 3 cost mana rocks are fine. They don’t work when you are getting into full competitive/highly optimized play, they aren’t bad. Just don’t work in certain games. Keep your minds open and don’t listen blindly
im super amped to make a incubation edh deck. Might go new atraxa and just do all the good stuff!
Help, please!. I have a ton of old phyrexian cards. At time stamp stamp ~44:00 you said Phyrexian Walker counts as a phyrexian. How do I know if an old phyrexian card counts as a phyrexian creature type or not?
Some cards have been "eratta'd" to have different sub-types. Not sure where to look for the changes though, sorry.
We'd have love to have seen The Ozolith as a reprint Wizards
£15
Not sure how many sac outlets there are in the deck, but Rusted Slasher is a Phyrexian sac outlet for artifacts that can protect itself and even sacrifice itself in a pinch. Since Brimaz makes artifact creatures from the Incubators, you can freely sacrifice them once they flip to maximize the proliferate value
Maskwood nexus would go well with this deck as well only for the artifact creatures or additional changes where your constantly getting that phyrexian proliferate when they die.
I think I would rather build this deck by just buying the commander and buying the singles. Too much chaff in the precon just for tribal synergies, which is bizzare considering how amazing the knight deck is
Showing Despark when talking about Inspiring Statuary cracked me up. You can't use Improvise to help pay for Despark, it has no generic mana in its cost.
I know these people probably know alot more than me so pls let me know if im wrong but wouldnt the 0/0 phyrexian from walker still come in and hit the board, triggering brimaz for 2 generic mana?
Thinking of getting this deck or the connive one....please cover it next if you can. Love your content!!
Do you mean convoke?
I like 36 lands and 14 ramp/rocks.
I was surprised not to see Skrelv, Defector Mite get mentioned, if not added to the deck. Getting other creatures through with toxic will help with the proliferation of poison counters.
$6 card in a $10 budget
Skrelvs Hive is a dece pick as long as it stays on the board.
@@chefboyardee851 First, Skrelv is $3.50, not $6. Second, I said "mentioned, if not added..." $30+ cards were mentioned, but somehow mentioning a $3.50 card is somehow bad?
There is nothing wrong with my initial comment. I stayed within the parameters provided by the show.
@@theotherguy4478 The cheapest copy of Skrelv is currently listed at 5.99$ USD on Card Kingdom and about the same on TCG Player...
@@krimson459 Card Kingdom (CK) is overpriced. I have never bought from them for that very reason. I just looked up Skrelv on TCG Player, and the market value is $3.86 for the lowest price, which has gone up since yesterday. Some are going for $3 right now. For many players, it fits in their budget, while CK doesn't. I can get a better price for the card at my lgs.
When you have a 4 mana commander, you want 2 mana ramp so you can cast them on turn 3. First ramp added plays on turn 2, activates on turn 3 to give you a tapped land you can use on turn 4...Am I missing something?
Prototype cards are also decent budget upgrades if you go for the artefact build. Provides both decent early and late game and adding flexibility. I wish they kept their full mana value on the prototype cast for this commander. Too bad.
I can only assume they were trying to avoid the deck becoming another orzov aristocrats-reanimation deck, but that cast from hand requirement is brutal. Can't even use a bolas' citadel or something to cast from the grave.
Great in depth video
Unfortunately my upgrade isn’t budget. I spent like $60 on 13 cards. For my upgrade I used: Wurmcoil Engine, Blightsteel Colossus, Sensor Splicer, Splicers Skill, Phyrexian Splicer, Elesh Norn/The Argent Etchings, Merciless Repurposing, Traumatic revelation, Essence of Orthodoxy, Norns Inquisitor, Phyrexian Awakening, Sunfall, and Sculpted perfection. The cards that I took out were: Path of the Schemer, Filegree Vector, Ichor Elixir, Duplicant, Fractured Powerstone, Bone Shredder, Cataclysmic Gearhulk, Vulpine Harvester, Scrap Trawler, and Keskit, the Flesh Sculptor. I decided to take a heavier incubator role with the deck than Phyrexian or Artifact. Then I have Elesh Norn to act as the primary win-con, and Blightsteel Colossus as a Reserve/Backup.
You said there's alot with the commander. There isn't. You just need to run artifact creatures and phyrexians, sac and reanimate. It's black white Korvold, that makes bodies.
Argh, I'm torn, when I saw the decks spoiled I knew I wanted one to get a set of planechase cards because I really want to try it. My problem is none of them are very appealing to me, but of the group I thought this one might be good, I could use the etch foil card as commander and put the normal one in my Urza deck, maybe cannibalize some other cards from it too. But when I was playing the Urza deck I realized I had a lot of token decks, and when I'm putting counters on those tokens it just becomes too bothersome to keep track. These two creatures have three counters on them because they came in last turn, but this other token, which is identical, only has one, these four creatures are artifacts so they get +1/+0, but all my creatures get +1/+1, but only on attack. Boards like this are the rule, but the exception, and this kinda looks like the same thing is gonna happen. So I don't know, maybe I should just get the planechase cards by themselves.
Not what you did for the deck but sundial of the infinite is pretty great with Moira and Teshar. Will probably either buy the precon or just Moira and Teshar and build a deck from that instead.
Charge counters are counters for noncreature permanents so wouldn’t they be used for the incubate tokens?
can filigree vector put +1+1 counter on incubate token while its still an artifact?
The big question is: Will the Game Knights game featuring MOM use cards from the precons and $10 upgrade, or will players significantly swap out cards and blow through the $10 budget?
This deck looks like a COMPLEAT CATatsrophe
.....because Brimaz is a...cat...phyrexian.....
I'm taking that invite seriously, I always wanted to play PDS but I never got a chance.
Rachel I'm wondering what is on your sweatshirt and where did you get it? It looks super cool
I think it might be literally impossible to print sol ring into the ground :D
Black (or Orzhov) artifacts is a super cool theme and while i think the face commander is interesting, this precon is really disappointing. Edit: as usual, great recommendations for upgrades.
This video has been incubating
This video was so incubating that it should be able to tap like a black lotus when u put a +1 +1 counter on it
I bought all 5 decks and idk how or if in going to upgrade/ build since im mostly buying for the planechase cards. If anything ill probably tear em apart to build other decks entirely.
The budget budget upgrade
Early game: Vat of rebirth, Skrelv, esper sentinel
Mid game: Ria ivor, Braids, Kaya to double token, tocasia’s welcome, skrelvs hive
Finishers: Marionette master, completed Vraska
When hes explaining brimaz'es abilities doesnt brimaz turn into a 4/4 on flip if the mana value is 3 because brimaz gives a +1/+1
I don’t know… this deck seems weird to me. Great job with the upgrade because it’s the first time that I’ve seen a deck practically unplayable out of the box. The other 4 precons look way better 🤷🏻♂️
vector charge counters are for the trigons
So I love Rachel, she's great. But is this just her channel now..? She's in every video at this point. 😅 Love hearing her perspective though?
This week on the “Rachel Weeks Command Cast”…
Bane of progress goes burr against this deck
If you transform an incubator with 0 counters, does it dying trigger Brimaz?
Yes, as it is a creature when it dies.
When is the new episode of Game Knights going to come out?
Mondrak copies incubate Tokens without counters. Not sure this is what I want for 30+$
How come you guys never mention the new cappena commander precons when comparing value?
someone wanna yell at Maro or Gavin and ask why spawning pit doesn't make phyrexian spawns? its from darksteel and calls out new phyrexia by name. seems like it's a phyrexia card to me...
I wish bruvac would get a reprint
It’s pronounced “Anne X Sentry”
$10 is far to low. I preferred the $30 upgrade guides. Maybe in the future, make a quick 5-10 minute "mini-upgrade" section for those on a smaller budget and just quickly name the cards with one or two reasons for the include or even just name a couple things they synergize with. We'll fill in the blanks. :)
They would just add in the token doubling things probably..and you will see a copy paste of EDHREC.
It's not that hard to google. ;)
@@afspeellijstnaruto what a stupid thing to say. Why would anyone make videos at all when you can just Google all of this?
Im really only buying this deck for the plant chase and the commander and a few others to put into my predators voice deck (cant wait buying a oil slick atraxa tomorrow)
