Watching Clarkson trying to charge the i8 is more entertaining than an episode of new Top Gear

Probably one of the most underrated and misunderstood cars of the century by internet kids that can only read a spec sheet. Superb GT cruiser with spaceship looks and very good performance. Even it's 100-200 time, where you'd expect the electric motor to die, is not far off a stock m3

Some bloke bought a used baby blue M3 demo car, having thought it was driven by the manager. The car started making some weird clunks and noises very short after he bought it. Whilst he was watching a re-run of this particular episode, he saw that the BMW Jeremy was trashing round the track had the exact number plates as his BMW, which has quite a lot reliabilty problems. So he blamed Clarkson for breaking the car and the dealer for selling it to him.

The reality is, it serves himself right for buying a used performance car like it's gonna be in showroom condition when you can guarantee it's been thrown around...unless it's been owned by a wet fart.
This is the reason why I want an M3, but rather that I'll wait for the 2016 M2.

You know what's funny? The M3 he used was brought by a guy that complained of mechanical issues then he saw his car on top gear...yeah not good.
+Mr Dusty Well I would say the fault was more with the dealership selling it as if it was straight out of the factory, they could at least have had a mechanic look at it before putting it back in the showroom.

+Viktor Gleisner Yeah dealership would be at fault but I believe as the story was told, the customer was told the vehicle was driven as a demo/manager or something. I'm not too sure about the specifics but in cases press cars can be sold to the public and not told specifically they were press cars so you might just think it's used or something when in fact it's been beaten on. The customer took the car back to the dealer who took it back and gave him a BMW 330d plus whatever the difference was (and maybe something for his trouble?)

Some guy bought that exact BMW M3 from a dealer not knowing it was featured on Top Gear. Apparently couple days into owning the M3 there were signs of various problems. One day the owner and his girlfriend were watching this exact Top Gear episode when his girlfriend realised the number plate on the M3 on the show matched the one he owns. Straight away he called the dealer of where he bought the M3 from and they said that the vehicle wasn't meant to be sold due to being trashed on Top Gear and being classed as a unsuitable vehicle to drive.
Somehow I feel like he could sell it for more than it's worth too a top gear fan.

+TheAventadorSV Yeah I heard about that. Apparently his M3 was a constant source of problems because it was thrashed on the track and it developed all sorts of mechanical faults. Partly because these cars have very little mileage and the engine isn't properly, or at all, run-in or whatever you call it and also because that doing that to any car will damage it. Still, I would love to have a car featured on Top Gear even if it would fall apart if you were to drive it, I just want to have one :D

+Keshav Gopaul he went to the papers blaming top gear but it was the dealership who declared it to be fit for the road. Worrying though that it could've had new number plates put on it and nobody would've ever known.
My E63 was on Top Gear, luckily the one in the studio, not the one thrashed around Manchester airport. :)

I've driven the M4 Coupé and the i8. Both are awesome cars.
I'd pick the M4 though. It has just so much more character.

Jeremy was what made Top Gear what it was. Chris Harris is truly a lovable character and great reviewer indeed. Top Gear won't be the same never again.
Though it shouldn't be since it's not. I think that Chris is the best car enthusiast out there!
Honestly nobody can review cars as well as Clarkson does.

apparently some guy actually bought that exact M3 and didn't know it had been whupped around a track, the suspension was all messed up and he started complaining.
tbh In that situation I'd put the car up on a pedestal and charge 5 dollars to sit in it; it's been driven by blessed hands.
I may watched this episode 5 times and every time I watched it I still enjoying it.

+studio571 Keep in mind, they only fired Clarkson because he physically assaulted someone on the staff. Hammond and May left on their own accord because Clarkson was fired.

The problem was, he had many "last chances" over the years and this was the final straw. It's just too bad people think that behaviour is ok and an apology will make everything better. Clarkson is a man child and if you let him get away with something, he will do it again.

well a new M3 GTS has done 50.000km almost exclusively at the hands of racing drivers on the nürburgring and it's still working, so not really.

I can't believe no one else has commented on it yet. The M3 in this very review is the one that a guy bought, and found it to be a bit broken. This was national news a few days ago!
An i8 fitted with the V8 from the M3 and a manual gearbox would be stunning.
That's the nicest looking 4 door I've seen yet.
This is the same BMW that was later sold at a dealership as “new”, but had a TON of issues after being on Top Gear
The I8 has the special distinction of being the one supercar I’ve had the honor of sitting in at an auto show. It was cool and all, but getting in and out was a bit annoying because the scissor doors kept hitting my head. I think it’d be a good car to experiment with on a weekend, but the more conventional M3 would be a better daily driver
It is not a supercar in the slightest lol, ask any German. It's something to keep the faux environmentalist happy while the real enthusiasts gap them in their AMG's and Porsche's
@@bluemutt9964 well I referred to it as a super car in the loosest sense of the term. I know it won’t beat its peers and it’s just more of an experiment by bmw, but it looks cool and I do feel honored to have encountered one.

The M3 is and continues to be the only car from BMW I'd ever consider buying if I had the cash. What a brilliant car.
Regardless of how good a BMW is as a sensible german its hard to buy one. Theres always this wiff about BMW drivers thinking they own the road and dont need to use indicators etc. And buying one lower in the range especially the 3 series always makes you look iffy. Its hard to describe but its sorta you want to show off but youre in a lower mid range BMW and it looks kinda bad. And buying their SUVs youre already outed as someone having no taste whatsoever cause theyre just extremely ugly. All of them. Youre much better off buying any sort of Merc really.
@@TheDude50447 There was a segment for the longest time that Jezza would say "If you own a BMW, you're a cock" and then shortly after the Audi R8 released it shifted towards Audi drivers being "cocks" and then I supposed it shifted back to Beemers? Wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.

Funny thing is, A Toyota.. or any Japanese car For that matter, would be fine after this. It’d drive you to the track, around the track and back home again. It’s a BMW, what do you expect. It’s one of the most expensive car brands to maintain. It’s designed to be the greatest a car can be.. momentarily. Like an overrated German Alfa.

they said a long time ago that the new top gear was to be out soon well that was july its now dec and it still old content jeremy and friends have already done a few promos and other tibits while top gear is still doing reruns of old 2014-feb 2015 content if topgear to survive they need to really start pushing what the new top gear is with some promos or its a good as dead and forgotten once the new amazon series comes out they did post in the new there was to be a christmas special but we not even seen one teaser of yet

I've driven both last year and I would pick up the M3. The i8 is such a cool thing and got the best 3-cyl engine you can probably think of, but it's not a sports car. Not really (look at those tires).
I am still asking myself if he drove home with the m3 or i8. Also i am curious when we will see the comparison between m3 and i8, which the title announced.

As with all BMW's sport mode is intended default mode for all driving once the engine is warm or you should of saved some cash and gone with some FWD shopping cart. Sport plus is for VMAX mode or the masochistic with a strange attraction to pothole punch and an arm workout at every turn.
Damn near everything BMW dreams up is just simply brilliant & epic. They really are the ultimate driving machine.

Electric/ hybrid cars aren’t really my cup of tea but, I didn’t really mind the i8 until I heard that it has a speaker on the back of the car that makes a fake exhaust noise when you give it throttle.
