Come on xbud, its way to small 5.5" for real? I tend to use my 6.8" Phone with an 16:9 ratio, and that is simply to small with an Air2 and its gorgeous 1080p feed. (I really need a big screen so I can sense the lightning and sense what the drone sees, and ajjust it accordingly, not least when you dealing with filters or manual settings... here 5.5" way to small and its such a bummer getting home taking the SDcard out and in the 4K LG OLED TV and seeing, dang, my settings ain't legit) My preferred screens are either the Tab S5e LTE (10.5", 5.5mm 397g) or the Xiaoxin P11pro2021 (11.5", 5.8mm, 485g).. the total weight incl. TX will be like from a tad over 800g to 900g Both 1600p OLED, as I need that inky black and a contrast rate that has gone to the moon. and ain't coming back brightness peaks at 920nits for the S5e, and just under 900nits for the Xiaoxin. (but only in sunburst mode, so not something you really can rely on, as its the lightsensor that dictates it) manual slider brightness are like 625nits. and then I also like that you can use adjustable windows on both, and have numerous things on screen at the same time. when you been familiar flying these 1080p transmission-feed drones on a big screen.. there is no way back, and you s´just feel limited on a small screen when you pursuing great footage

Excellent video! I think the DJI Smart Controller is a great idea. However, I can’t justify putting out $1000 Canadian when the MAVIC Air 2 controller works fine to me. Alternatively, when the MAVIC 3 comes out and is bundled with a controller in a combo pack will I entertain getting it. That way I will be able to go to a whole new level, which I then can agree with purchasing it.

Seems to me this would be very worthwhile particularly if you fly multiple Mavic types, so don’t have to learn multiple controllers when you switch drones. The zoom is nice otherwise, but not enough of a reason to pay the extra money for, and personally I’d like the camera on top too, it’s one thing I dislike about my mavic mini - larger hands tend to block the view and I don’t find it a comfortable grip to avoid blocking the view. A larger, brighter screen is a plus, but I can increase brightness on my cell so it’s really the minor inconvenience of having to switch. For me, not worth it and it’s not an issue of being able to afford it, it’s just not worth it. I would find that different if I used it for professional purposes however.
"Left stick up" yeah I noticed that it doesn't want to take off out of your hand without some throttle. Pretty sure my old Pro Platinum would just lift off no prob. Not a huge deal but something I noticed when I got my new Air 2.
It will lift off automatically, if you initiate take off from the app, however I started it up manually, with sticks down and in, to trigger the motors, and then I push the left stick up for it to take off. droneXfactor in my experience it won’t even with the takeoff onscreen button which is what I use 99% of the time. Maybe I don’t wait long enough though for it to lift off. I’ll try that. Thanks for replying. 😎
Thank you for you always informative videos 👍 In this video you were testing out the new DJI smart controller, which Mavic air 2 were you using? The Mavic air 2 or the Mavic air 2 Zoom? I ask because I have the Mavic air 2 and Smart Control, however I cannot get it to Zoom with the left wheel, with the right I can get the gimbal straight down or up, which is great. However if I am able to use a zoom feature that would be the best feature ever. Thanks again for your video’s, quite new to all of this and you’ve taken the time to explain some of the basics in an amazing way👍👍👍
I did not know you could zoom with the air 2 I just bought mine last week I haven't plead with it very much but I thought that was the difference for the zoom model I guess I need to do more playing I still haven't figured out how to active track and now I have not figured out how to zoom

Thanks Jim, to answer your question, Nope! The smart controller does not add software features to Mavic Air 2! The Waypoint feature is available on the mavic 2 pro and the phantom 4 pro (4 pro does a better job at progressing through waypoints). If DJI gives all the premium features in a low-cost drone, it will definitely hurt their business, which will come back to hurt us. The good news is, the smart controller is compatible with the mavic air 2, the mavic 2 pro and the phantom 4 pro v2. I hope this helps, happy Flying 🙂

Which calibrations can you do inside and which ones do you have to do outside? I know there are four calibrations to do, at least: 1) IMU, 2) gimbal, 3) control sticks, and 4) compass. Am I missing anything else? I know that at least compass calibration has to be done outside.

You probably already saw this, but I was watching another video and I saw that if you hold the function button and use the left wheel button at the same time, you can adjust the smart controller screen brightness on the fly.
Loved your very informative video as usual. I am an avid subscriber. I just bought the smart controller for my Mavic Air 2 and I’m confused about a couple of issues. It appears that, because you need to use the Fly app, you cannot download maps - so if you don’t have your phone with you, and are in an area where are you have cellular service, and can tether your phone to your controller, you are not going to have any maps. Is that correct. Also I don’t believe you can use the Gaucher app that is on the smart controller to transfer images to a device. So it looks like me that they added the functionality to use the go fly app but left out a lot of the other features.

Great video, I just got the Air2s SC combo- love the SC. I hated flying my Mini2 with the IPhone, even though the DJI standard controller is really good. Like how you fly on the sly.
Just my 0.02. It'd be cool in the "next physical" SC version (no slam on the current model) if they made a "curved" display at 75hz and built-in speakers of at least Galaxy Note 20 Series quality. I'd snap this "truly premium" SC up in a heartbeat!
Hello my friend. I'm new in this, will be buying Mavic Air 2. So, in order to use the DJI Goggles I need to but the DJI Smart Controller right? so I connect the Goggles and the Smart Controller with HDMI Cable. Is it possible to control the Mavic Air 2 Camera movement and tilt (Head Tracking) with the movement of your head using the DJI Goggles? Thank you very much. Do you think DJI will bring Waypoints in normal video mode for the MA2? And also where you can add Waypoints on the maps instead of flying to the Waypoints first?
Good question, unfortunately I don't know what DJI's plans are, I would love to see waypoint video feature added, because it's my favorite autonomous feature on the phantom, I think it's safe to say mapping way points at home is something I think DJI reserves for its enterprise drones, although that would be nice to have, I don't think DJI will add the waypoints at home, however we might get waypoint videos in a update. I have seen many if your videos and kind of confused because you make your mavic mini airborne near your car, have you anytime had messages like "navigation system error" or "sensor error" on your phone screen? Man... a week ago I didn t flight because those messages were popping all the time. Great job.
where did you get the fast charge for the smart controller? DJI does not have that available I have the smart controller but it take 19 hrs to charge??
I have Range issues with the smart controller compared to the stock controller. About 1/3 less range in the same location flying the same height and direction.
Interesting Henry. I am considering the upgrade from the mini to the 2 because of the added range. I live in an area with lots of strong wifi and cannot take the mini more than 1200' away from me until I run into interference. If the range issue is true, then maybe I will hold off on this controller and stick with the stock.
I’ve heard tales that the mavic air 2 is actually running an upgraded ocusync...let’s say ocusync 2.1. My first thought when I saw they added support to the Smart controller was: will it hold the same range?
By the way, I did just use the trade up program to get the Mavic Air 2 bundle bundle with the smart controller. Your videos were a great factor in the purchase. Keep up the great vids.

Hi, does this actually give you something (besides built-in screen) in case of Mavic Air 2? I mean your don't get any additional features because you are still limited to dji fly app functionality. Am I right?
HDMI out.. so you can plug an extra tv monitor or anything with HDMI. you can sit on your back porch, pull up a 50inch flat screen and plug it into that smart controller lol. it's awesome..
I love it sir. Especially the independent zoom wheel. I can’t get the shots i want coz of this issue. I also like the 1000 net brightness. I always fly right under the sun. Also love extra function button is awesome. Never forget to mention that i liked the bottom screen. I’m coming from original air. With air2, i have to tilt the remote up to be able to see what i’m filming. This action causes difficulty for my hands to move the sticks freely if u know what i mean. But 😢 it’s too expensive. I have updated both my Mavic Air 2 and the Smart Controller but do not have the zoom on the right roller button. Did you do some specific to have it to work?

thank you for your video! I have just tested MA2 on SC everything works fine except for the zoom which doesn't work. Did you have to configure something (I use mode2). Also when I shoot a photo in normal mode then select hdr mode the screen does not reflect the change even if I face the sun.
Did you update the firmware on your Drone? If you did that already, then delete the fly app and reinstall it back. That should do the trick. Please keep me posted, happy Flying 😃

I really want to but one. The problem I'm having is the $750 price tag. If it was $500 it would still be a question, but it would be a much easier decision.
Great video. I love the smart controller. However, it's quite expensive. Here it costs EUR 633. And I don't know yet if I should buy it, because I don't fly with the drone so often. The DJI Fly app on the controller also seems to be out of date. The memory display of the SD card is missing on the display. The app updates will probably come later for the controller.
Why doesn't the map on the bottom right show anything on my smart controller? When I tap that icon, it just shows a blank white screen. Plus, I can't turn off the map icon on the bottom left like I could on my phone. Is that a firmware update issue?
You can't turn off the map icon, but you can make it very small. The reason it's just showing black is because you're not connected to the internet. Turn your phone into a hotspot, connect the smart controller to your phone's hotspot and the maps will load 💪 Happy Flying 😎

After watching your review of the Smart Controller with the M A2 I was so impressed I hopped on amazon an bought me one. It performed well however, my issue was when using the phone I can get maps, I can also get authorization if needed. but when using the SC on location no wifi how can I cache maps and get authorization??? Can you cache the maps and get per-autherization? If so, how can provide info for M A2 with SC?
It is VERY pricey for what it is 1000$ CAD here + taxes). I sincerely hope they drop the price. At that price, I could get a tablet and a tablet support rig to have a bigger screen to fly with. But again, it adds another payload for my trip and takes more space.

Good informative video as always. I just upgraded from the Mini to the MA2. I really like the stock controller on the MA2. It's a bit more bulkier than the mini stock one which I like plus i'm able to charge my phone while flying. The Smart controller has some nice features but i'd say no to the Smart Controller for now however always subject to change.
My Mavic Air 2 just arrived and my first flight was awsome but I think I use 30fps instead of 60 fps. When I viewed the video it was clear as day but when I uploaded it on social media it was fuzzy, what did I do wrong.

Is about the same Range. The stock controller may be has more because is a directional antenna but i test both and is the same for me.

Which calibrations can you do inside and which ones do you have to do outside? I know there are four calibrations to do, at least: 1) IMU, 2) gimbal, 3) control sticks, and 4) compass. Am I missing anything else? I know that at least compass calibration has to be done outside.

You probably already saw this, but I was watching another video and I saw that if you hold the function button and use the left wheel button at the same time, you can adjust the smart controller screen brightness on the fly.
Loved your very informative video as usual. I am an avid subscriber. I just bought the smart controller for my Mavic Air 2 and I’m confused about a couple of issues. It appears that, because you need to use the Fly app, you cannot download maps - so if you don’t have your phone with you, and are in an area where are you have cellular service, and can tether your phone to your controller, you are not going to have any maps. Is that correct. Also I don’t believe you can use the Gaucher app that is on the smart controller to transfer images to a device. So it looks like me that they added the functionality to use the go fly app but left out a lot of the other features.
Love your videos I have just bought the smart controller along with my mavic air 2. Currently own the mavic platinum and the mini 1. Wondering if it’s worth getting the mini 2 or the mavic pro 2. Should I cell my platinum and get the pro or keep it and get the mini 2.

Great video, I just got the Air2s SC combo- love the SC. I hated flying my Mini2 with the IPhone, even though the DJI standard controller is really good. Like how you fly on the sly.

Just my 0.02. It'd be cool in the "next physical" SC version (no slam on the current model) if they made a "curved" display at 75hz and built-in speakers of at least Galaxy Note 20 Series quality. I'd snap this "truly premium" SC up in a heartbeat!

Hello my friend. I'm new in this, will be buying Mavic Air 2. So, in order to use the DJI Goggles I need to but the DJI Smart Controller right? so I connect the Goggles and the Smart Controller with HDMI Cable. Is it possible to control the Mavic Air 2 Camera movement and tilt (Head Tracking) with the movement of your head using the DJI Goggles? Thank you very much. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm learning about thus technology.
Do you think DJI will bring Waypoints in normal video mode for the MA2? And also where you can add Waypoints on the maps instead of flying to the Waypoints first?
Good question, unfortunately I don't know what DJI's plans are, I would love to see waypoint video feature added, because it's my favorite autonomous feature on the phantom, I think it's safe to say mapping way points at home is something I think DJI reserves for its enterprise drones, although that would be nice to have, I don't think DJI will add the waypoints at home, however we might get waypoint videos in a update.

I have seen many if your videos and kind of confused because you make your mavic mini airborne near your car, have you anytime had messages like "navigation system error" or "sensor error" on your phone screen? Man... a week ago I didn t flight because those messages were popping all the time. Great job.

where did you get the fast charge for the smart controller? DJI does not have that available I have the smart controller but it take 19 hrs to charge??

I have Range issues with the smart controller compared to the stock controller. About 1/3 less range in the same location flying the same height and direction.
Interesting Henry. I am considering the upgrade from the mini to the 2 because of the added range. I live in an area with lots of strong wifi and cannot take the mini more than 1200' away from me until I run into interference. If the range issue is true, then maybe I will hold off on this controller and stick with the stock.
I’ve heard tales that the mavic air 2 is actually running an upgraded ocusync...let’s say ocusync 2.1. My first thought when I saw they added support to the Smart controller was: will it hold the same range?
@@soadown5 I have tested it with the Mavic 2 Pro. Someone should test it with the Mavic 2 Air. I am betting that there will be a big discrepancy.
The advertised range of the Smart Controller is 8km while the advertised range of the MA2 with stock controller is 10 km.

Hi, does this actually give you something (besides built-in screen) in case of Mavic Air 2? I mean your don't get any additional features because you are still limited to dji fly app functionality. Am I right?
HDMI out.. so you can plug an extra tv monitor or anything with HDMI. you can sit on your back porch, pull up a 50inch flat screen and plug it into that smart controller lol. it's awesome..

I love it sir. Especially the independent zoom wheel. I can’t get the shots i want coz of this issue. I also like the 1000 net brightness. I always fly right under the sun. Also love extra function button is awesome. Never forget to mention that i liked the bottom screen. I’m coming from original air. With air2, i have to tilt the remote up to be able to see what i’m filming. This action causes difficulty for my hands to move the sticks freely if u know what i mean.
But 😢 it’s too expensive.

I have updated both my Mavic Air 2 and the Smart Controller but do not have the zoom on the right roller button. Did you do some specific to have it to work?
No, mine was set automatically, go under your controller settings, look under button configuration and try to set it up!

You could do this with the original controller also if you press and hold the function button then the gimbal wheel will become zoom dial
thank you for your video! I have just tested MA2 on SC everything works fine except for the zoom which doesn't work. Did you have to configure something (I use mode2).
Also when I shoot a photo in normal mode then select hdr mode the screen does not reflect the change even if I face the sun.
Did you update the firmware on your Drone?
If you did that already, then delete the fly app and reinstall it back.
That should do the trick.

Great video. I love the smart controller. However, it's quite expensive. Here it costs EUR 633. And I don't know yet if I should buy it, because I don't fly with the drone so often. The DJI Fly app on the controller also seems to be out of date. The memory display of the SD card is missing on the display. The app updates will probably come later for the controller.

Why doesn't the map on the bottom right show anything on my smart controller? When I tap that icon, it just shows a blank white screen. Plus, I can't turn off the map icon on the bottom left like I could on my phone. Is that a firmware update issue?
You can't turn off the map icon, but you can make it very small.
The reason it's just showing black is because you're not connected to the internet.
Turn your phone into a hotspot, connect the smart controller to your phone's hotspot and the maps will load 💪

I haven't touched my standard controller since I purchased the Smart Controller. I will only use the standard one as a backup if my SC failed.

After watching your review of the Smart Controller with the M A2 I was so impressed I hopped on amazon an bought me one. It performed well however, my issue was when using the phone I can get maps, I can also get authorization if needed. but when using the SC on location no wifi how can I cache maps and get authorization???
Can you cache the maps and get per-autherization? If so, how can provide info for M A2 with SC?
It is VERY pricey for what it is 1000$ CAD here + taxes). I sincerely hope they drop the price. At that price, I could get a tablet and a tablet support rig to have a bigger screen to fly with. But again, it adds another payload for my trip and takes more space.

Good informative video as always. I just upgraded from the Mini to the MA2. I really like the stock controller on the MA2. It's a bit more bulkier than the mini stock one which I like plus i'm able to charge my phone while flying. The Smart controller has some nice features but i'd say no to the Smart Controller for now however always subject to change.

My Mavic Air 2 just arrived and my first flight was awsome but I think I use 30fps instead of 60 fps. When I viewed the video it was clear as day but when I uploaded it on social media it was fuzzy, what did I do wrong.
