- Here I go on a service call to help get a guys feed grinding tractor going again. An Allis Chalmers 200 diesel that doesn’t want to start every time.
I’m Ross aka “The Oliver Man”. I farm with Oliver and White tractors here in beautiful Southern IN. I have over 30 Oliver and White Tractors in my collection (plus a few other colors). Please Like and Subscribe for more Oliver and White Videos!

The hydraulic pto was available in 1964 on the 190. My 200 is the last year built. A 1975, and it has the gated Power Director lever, which is much easier to shift than the older 190 style but may require a new gate if it slips out of position. I used a lineup punch to get those bolts in. I really like my 200.
I always like the body style of these tractors!
Red or orange is better than "that other green". :) Good video, glad the patient was inside and you didn't get rained on to bad.
🤣🤣🤣 Thanks!!
Nice turbo sound with the chrome straight pipe.
Turbo whistle is always sweet!
Always thought Jackson County was Allis Chalmers country when I was a kid.
I would say that it was pretty evenly split, the south western corner was mainly Allis, where I lived was pretty well Oliver and it seemed there was one on every farm. There was also a lot of IH and John Deere. A lot of brand loyalty went on used to. Once a guy got started with one he stuck with it.
Won't offend me love Allis Chalmers great tractor... Number one in my book
I’ve always liked the body style of the 190/200
I had to pull starter off IH 1586. Starter drive was bad. Starters on cab 86 series IH tractors are a pain in the butt
Oh yeah! Those are the ones under the floorboard aren’t they? I’ve had to do one of those before not very much fun
Great Video. Glad to see a Allis Chalmers in your videos. I like Anything Owned by AGCO. AC, Oliver ,MMoline & White veing my Favorites.
Thanks Chad! I’m trying to keep a variety of stuff so people don’t get burnt out of my 1365 videos 😅
Looks like the tractor has been well taken care of. Nice job of troubleshooting! Sometimes also one of the switches in the solenoid activation circuit is worn and cannot source enough current to properly activate the starter solenoid.
I agree. Also I don’t think the switches were built heavy enough to handle the constant vibration.
I just replaced the solenoid on my 190 last summer and on my 200 a couple years ago. You can get the two back bolts in with the right tools. I used to work atvan AC dealer once upon a time and did several starter jobs. Kinda crowded on those models but doable. Way better than working on a starter on a 1566 IH.
Right on! Someone had a good idea of using a flexible extension. I may try that next time
nice tractor
It sure is! They got it fixed up nice
Love the sound of those 200’s!!!
Nothing wrong with the Allis Chalmers. Look forward to watching the video Ross. Your a good man Ross. Thinking about the man’s father passing away, and wanting to get his tractor fixed.
Thanks Scott!! Hopefully it’s one less thing he hast to worry about.
I watch for the entertainment, learning stuff is just a bonus. Awesome job Ross
Thanks! I’m glad people get something out of the videos 🤣
That’s a slick old allis!
It’s pretty sweet.
I can remember being a kid riding on the fender of our 180 Alllis. Always liked the body style. Don't be afraid to do more orange tractor videos if you get the chance. Thanks Ross
Thanks Jeff!
Beautiful Orange! Like the straight pipe too!!
It’s OK I guess 🤣🤣🤣
great job on the solenoid an tighting the belts
Looks like a pretty decent tractor. We had a neighbor that was big into the orange ones. Nice whistle from the turbo.
They definitely sound cool with the straight pipe.
Just a note, they are all great when they are up, and all junk when they are down. The color don't matter. Dave D.
So true. They all have their good points
It's always neat to see a different color on the channel. i love the orange tractor because i own a 200 myself.
Thanks! My dad has a 200 as well.
Yep, that's my color. I always enjoy your videos, but Thank You for working on the AC 200. Also one of my favorite models. 👍🚜🇺🇲
Thanks Jack! I’ve always liked that body style as well.
I definitely "like" orange tractor wrenching. We've got two of them ourselves. WD45 and a Series IV D17
The D 17 series 4 is a pretty great little tractor for sure!
I appreciate the influx of videos! You’re doing great!
Thanks Shawn! It’s a lot of work but I hope I can keep up this pace.
I like the info I can't find it the Allis Chalmers videos
There’s several channels that have Allis Chalmers. Timothy Fleugel has one, J&L, and the Iowa country girl all use Allis.
Good video. Tach drive on back of alternator that’s a new one to me.
Yeah, I wonder who invented that idea. It’s kind of a strange thing but I guess it worked for them.
Worked like a dream
OMG AWESOME! The origin of AGCO
Thanks Sean!
The old iron, AC, Oliver, JD, Farmall/IHC, Ford, these were tractors and equipment that was built and built to last. Just plain solid old machines. Had a similar issue with my old Ford 881 SoS, took the starter off, then removed the solenoid, cleaned it, tried it by itself and quickly ended up installing a new solenoid then worked perfect after that.
The old stuff was definitely built by people who took pride in their product. Nowadays I think it’s just a matter of see how many we can crank out as cheaply as possible.
A tractor man of all colors . I like it keep it up someday maybe will see you working on some blue paint.🤠👍👍👍👍
Thanks Paul! I did work on a few blue ones when I worked at the dealership. There’s not a whole lot of guys who have any around here anymore.
Kind of a common problem with Orange tractors. My 6080 was real bad. Local electrical shop suggested adding an auxiliary solenoid. That solved the problem. He did that on my 1066 starter too.
How many batteries you have on yours? Mine has one and does that when it gets down slightly, 5 min with charger and away it goes.
@@farmark457 It has two good batteries. The problem comes from voltage drop going through all the safety switch's and such.
I’ve heard of doing that. I did that once on a dodge diesel pick up to make it work. I guess if it doesn’t work for him this way I can come back and change it.
Thanks for sharing. Michael ☺️
Thanks Michael!
That was nice you were able to get his tractor up and going for him . I don't know a whole lot about AC tractors they never excited me . I do like the All Crop and the G tractor . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !
I like the D21, 210,220, 440 and 4W-220, but that’s basically where it ends
There are several AC models that I really like the body style of.
@@rosstheoliverman My dad's good friend loves AC and has got a huge collection of old AC tractors and equipment . I think most people like what they grew up on . I grew up with Farmall and John Deere but always had a thing for Oliver as well. Oliver was ahead of their time on a lot of stuff .
They're a fun solenoid to change
It would’ve been a lot more difficult if the back two bolts were in there. I’m gonna have to try to put some in when I go back.
Always look forward to your videos!
Thanks John!!
i got a 200 and love it except for i wished it had live power. It dont the only draw back in my opionion. love the content.
I agree 100%. It’s hard to believe that a tractor from the 70s still didn’t have live power takeoff. The AC guys didn’t mind because they were used to the hand clutch but I just cannot get used to that thing.
The 200 has "live" pto, but it doesn't have independent pto. In other words, you can use the hand clutch to stop the forward movement of the tractor and the pto will keep spinning. A hydraulic pto was also a option for the 200.
@@m16ty hand clutch on a 200. Do what
@@rugerfarming5387 Well the technical name is the Power Director. It has a neutral position though that acts as a "clutch". Putting the power director in neutral is what gives the tractor live pto.
You probably know this but common solenoid problems develop because your not getting full voltage from the ignition switch. There is a fix for that it involves another solenoid and some wiring. It usually fixes interment engagement issues.
I had to do that on a dodge pickup to fix the fuel solenoid issues. A second solenoid fixed the issue of running full power through the key.
@@rosstheoliverman I learned that trick from my Uncle he was a life long mechanic. I've also used it in 2 applications and haven't had any issues since. Good Video keep them coming please and thanks
I like most all tractors.
Me too.
Hey Ross! I believe Fiat made and Allis Chalmers, you may want to look for one of those to work on. 😁
They did indeed. This same Tractor was available with orange paint.
5050 was the only one
@@RJ1999x yep
I hope you went home & washed your hands before you touched any olivers😉
🤣
I’d hate to get orange all over everything 🤣
@@rosstheoliverman
Lol
As long as the pistons go round and round and the crank goes up and down you are OK. Remember, the sequence is, suck, squeeze, push, blow. That are the sequences and processes that we used to joke about being required for the engine/motor/powerplant to function. Also, the old guy in the shop would say at quitting time, "it is time to put the fire out and piss on the cat" Great shopisims of old.
Hey, Fiat Allis became an Agco brand so you should be an expert on Fiat company tractors.
Sorry about the crazy humor but it is one of those rainy days that require working outside for a couple hours in 50-degree temps. Maybe I should become a cattle farmer and just take bad weather in stride.
🤣🤣🤣
I was fascinated by this video because I am having a similar problem with my White 2-110. The starter solenoid completely pooped out in November. Prior to the complete breakdown, the tractor started intermitantly. About half the time, I had to jump the solenoid between the 2 poles and the tractor would start right up. I changed the solenoid in November before my hauling manure video and the tractor seemed to be starting ok.. However, the last 2 days I was plowing, I had to jump the solenoid about half the time again. I mentioned it to Joe's son, Ben, who said he thinks it might be the clutch switch rather than the solenoid. I will have to do testing to see if that's the problem. He said the clutch switch could be working intermitantly. Wonder if that's the problem you have there with the AC?
I would assume that it in your case is the clutch switch but I tested this one and it seemed to be fine.
That was an interesting video . whatever happened to the guy with the 560
I’m wondering the same thing. I haven’t heard from him for a long time. My guess is the tractor is still running and he’s going to wait until a rod is hanging out the side of the block before he calls me 🤣
My uncle has a 180 that my grandpa bought new.
Cool! I like that body style of AC tractor.
@@rosstheolivermanwhat is your opinion on AC 180s? My cousin has one that needs work, hasn't been used in years that I might be able to buy. Thanks!
T
hat is a late 200 the air filter snorkel is thru the hood
It’s a 72. The 190’s had it under the hood but to my knowledge all the 200’s had it through the hood. At least they all did down here.
It was an option on both tractors
Better than a red tractor.
There’s models in each brand that I like, but the Oliver‘s have my heart.
Gauges aren't as important as the radio.
Lol no
Do not forget cup holders as one of the necessities.
Absolutely 🤣🤣🤣
Orange????! For shame!!!! 🤣
😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
Clippy clips aka J nuts.
I used the official scientific name 🤣
👨🔧🚜👍👍
Thanks Tom!
U-nut. No not you are a nut. That is the name of the threaded fastener on the dash.
I’m probably still a nut 🤣
Would it offend you to know I own all the colors...
I like all the colors. I just like Olivers the best lol
