Omsi 2: Studio Polygon Renown Full Honest Review - selling strategy exposed | Westcountry v3 - 12

- The Studio Polygon Renown was released exclusive on their website, meaning it is not on Steam. There have been assertions that there are benefits to the customer of this, in this review of the Renown, I expose why that is not the case and the sole beneficiary in reality is SP. This review is one of the only on UA-cam to truthfully address (at least imo) the true reason behind it being exclusive on their website and how in reality this has more negatives for the customer than positives. We also talk about the bus, so it is not all negative. We drive the Volvo B10BLE Badgerline spec with a ZF engine on route 12 in Westcountry v3.

I did, but I also did a review about it. You kind of need the product for that 🤣
Overall I think the Renown is a good product. I understand their reasons for moving away from Steam, but as a customer their in house method is pretty crap. I've got in touch with them and raised a few issues with their products. For example if running in AI mode you often see the AI renown randomly spinning on the spot. If kickdown is enabled it just overrevs and slips totally unlike the real thing - ive driven plenty in real life and its just not quite right. I've also raised an issue with the 400MMC having no saloon lights in AI mode at night. They couldn't even be arsed to respond! With the renown it's a good addon, I do like the details. I do think it could have been a bit more poly-friendly for those on the lower end PCs - remember a lot of the Omsi community are younger and dont have the luxury of high end PCs and endless cash. Niggly things annoy me such as the retarder sounds being played after stopping if you brake harsh, and rather than the zoom button focusing in on the ticket machine it focuses to the destination panel, not ideal. You use the machine in service more than the blind - blind view should have been accessed by scrolling through the views instead of the zoom shortcut. Overall good, but customer service wise, no.
Spot on. Honestly they just piggy back of fanboys/girls and people willing to ignore the marketing element or just use the but this is how it is done argument in other sims. Shame as unfortunately this can set a precedent and when people are willing to downplay the awful selling strategy, then we get poorer customet service. As they say careful what one wishes for
The product is super wierd to put into omsi, because of all the downloads you have to do, everything else is great

Sold on Studio Polygon site only unfortunately because the fan boys were happy with that
And also just received an update for the bus if it was done on steam we be waiting days or weeks for it
I did highlight this, I don't see it as a major benefit, but again others may.
It's a smart and better way steam and aersoft take to much if a cut should be done like this in the future
I certainly agree that these companies can take a large share at times, but also they do provide benefits as mentioned i. The video. Steam automatic updates, user reviews refund policy and exhange rates.
Would have much rathered it being released via steam, the launcher imo was a cluster fuck, but none the less they've given us another quality bus that's been needed in OMSI for years
Yeah i agree. The bus itself is superb, product no problem, the other side of things not so much.
That installer has been the main cause of uproar since the bus came out. Despite having sorted out pretty much everything, the repaint pack is what I'm still having trouble with. A good few of the variants (mainly the T reg ones) have no repaints, and any of the First repaints have the default interior textures for the emergency exit. But I'd say that will get all sorted at some stage
Not being funny but when I updated to 1.0.2 I just downloaded the wizard and then installed it I didn’t need to add my serial key again

@@gary3294 This is something adressed in the video and hey if they want to go their own route fine, but steam route has benefits that are taken away, customers up paying more for a less straightforward experience, again however that will depend on priorities. There seems to be two customer types here, the ones that are happy to support the studio usually and hence will tend to support them going on their own website and selling it there, absolutely fair enough. However, that is not the entire market, there are others however who don't care that much about the details behind the studio (Realistically how many people are concerned with the hours spent to make an indie game etc?), those customers prefer convenience i.e. automatic updates, not having to email for activation resets etc... I absolutely understand Steam and Aerosoft takes a large share and sometimes it is too much, especially considering Steam takes a loeer cut for AAa games sometimes with larger revenue. However, steam and Aerosoft do have benefits, one they make the bus much more widely available, which increases sales, it converts the addon to different currencies at usually a decent rate, so the customer doesn't have to bare that, they provide support, reviews and also automatic updates and exposure. Obviously they won't do that for free. Again it is there choice, but realistically people have different opinions about that, the whole point of YT is to offer differing views, as the comment section illustrates.
@@TransportEnthusiast i also wont be able to get it because. 1. i get confused with installing things thats not on steam 2. i live in australia and 3. its not user friendly to install and update.

Haha thanks. Like literally at the end of the day all I have done is adress the other side, because whilst there are people who absolutely love everything about the Renown, there are also those who aren't fans of the new website only policy, UA-cam should offer divers views. The fact that SP found out about this video shows that they are well versed with what is being said about their bus overall.
