- Diggle Diaries: An attempt to film all daylight running freight and interesting workings from Diggle Junction. Situated on the picturesque Trans-Pennine, Manchester to Huddersfield and Leeds route, Diggle Jn lies at the top of a steep incline leading into Standedge Tunnel. Providing beautiful scenery, varied freight and trains working hard up the hill, there aren’t many better places for a bit of trainspotting.

some serious tractor action around the tameside Oldham area last year wow I heard a few of these tractors but didn't see them as I was in Stalybridge center! Nice video as who don't like a video of one of the biggest surviving fleet of 1960s uk built most successful locomotives ever built that's still in use on the mainline today 60 odd years on!!! 🥰

It’s such a shame mate, what a waste. I read recently that GBRF wanted to buy a few a while ago but DB insisted they be overhauled at Toton so they pulled out. Just to sit and rot.
Thanks for this, greqt to see so many 37's, it's good to know these are still in service, unlike the 60's which I have always thought received some bad press when Wisconsin took over, which presumbly helped to advance their purchase of GM products!
Helped very much I suspect. Hopefully one day they’ll get a new lease of life, if this re-engineering test ever goes ahead they might just yet.

Haha I noticed that too. You’d think they would at least think it wasn’t a normal train. Hopefully those 60’s get a new life one day.

@@DiggleJunction I was smitten with it, first time i saw it, I like railfrieght gray from back in the day, so that works! the red logo just pops, the updated lights and nose arrangements just look right, the nose detailing, the dark gray vents and grilles, the mini snow ploughs, the stripes over the cab side windows/door.... just superb! real care and attention went into it, to make it look right a real statement of intention by Europhoenix of thier commitment to thier fleet! and long may it continue! oh, have you seen it on the 91s?? WOW!! out of the park again!
I grew up watching 37's hauling coal wagons through my home town of Coalville in Leicestershire. You can never have to many 37's in one video! :) Thanks for sharing. Liked and Subbed! Cheers, Andy

Haha that was my thoughts exactly Andrew! Like being at Rhyl or Holyhead back in the day, used to love going away to north wales as a kid just for those.

Great stuff, as usual. The best bits for me were the 57s passing through my favourite view; the ducklings on the canal in the intro 😂...and memories of Long Eaton station, first used to clear my 44s at Toton, and a few years later to get to the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington.
I was just rewatching the video and that exact shot of the 57’s was on my screen as I read this comment! What a coincidence 😂 Monsters of rock sounds like my kind of festival haha.
Great video love all the 37's miss them on my local line used be catch them on nuclear duties almost every day and when theor the New Year y ran up and down the coast from Preston/Lancaster to Barrow in Furness/Carlisle keep up the great work all the best f

Another great watch. I wonder what was in that lonely “container” tank that it needed quite so many barrier wagons! I know modern wagons are in fixed rakes but it seems a waste to haul quite so much dead weight around. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2024.

I got 37901 yesterday at Crewe, dragging the new ROG 93,(93001) onto the rails, apparently for the first time. Bit of a treat, I like to just turn up on a platform and get a surprise, certainly was yesterday! 😁
fabulous video Luke a bit of light relief my partner and i have been clearing up the garden after the tornado in stalybridge the other day .How good do the 37s sound just shows how good they are dont know how i missedthem though as i can see Stalybridge station from my house such a shame and waste all those class 60s
Bloody hell mate hope you guys didn’t fair too badly with the tornado, some of the pictures looked horrendous. Crazy to think something like that happened so close to home!
@@DiggleJunction hi Luke compared to some of our neighbours we were lucky mostly fence panels and fence posts but we did get some roof damage certainly a scary time but thankfully no one was injured .keep up the great content looking forward to your next installment of diggle diaries

I don’t think so mate, seems like the opposite is happening now with more and more being brought back. No new 66’s can be ordered due to emissions now and new locos are so expensive this seems like a better option.

Thanks very much, they’re about 35 years old so not too old compared to a lot of the locos out and about. They’re not tremendously economical in all honesty which was likely the reason EWS at the time sidelined them.
Why do all the northern trains need dragging?
there's no electrified route between Leeds and Manchester
As Adam said, purely just because it’s not electrified between the two depots.
