  • Diggle Diaries: An attempt to film all daylight running freight and interesting workings from Diggle Junction. Situated on the picturesque Trans-Pennine, Manchester to Huddersfield and Leeds route, Diggle Jn lies at the top of a steep incline leading into Standedge Tunnel. Providing beautiful scenery, varied freight and trains working hard up the hill, there aren’t many better places for a bit of trainspotting.
    This month includes:
    - Line closure and engineering work finally ends
    - Ex-DRS 66 works over Saddleworth Viaduct
    - Three cranes taken away from the works top and tailed
    - Bullet Trains? That doesn't sound right.
    - And much more...
    Thanks for watching!
    Please leave a like, it helps a lot and don’t forget to subscribe for more rail videos.
    Dedicated to Alan William Gaskell.

    LOVE the twilight shot at 06:55 with flashing red lights. GREAT shots of stone train and guys walking the track. You could improve your videos immensely with a WIND MUFF that blocks annoying wind noise, heard here. Try one, you'll love it!

      Cheers Paul, I know it was a bit grainy but had to include that shot. I do have a shotgun mic with a “dead cat” but unfortunately it’s been back with Røde for the weeks the last few vids were shot because of some issues. All sorted now so should be back to higher quality audio in future vids. Cheers for the suggestion Paul 👍🏻

    A Railway magazine article said, Nuneaton was the best place to see freight, so for that reason that should be, your next 24 hour Marathon. Thanks for the video, looking forward to your holiday one.

      I saw the same article, must have been what gave me the idea for Nuneaton. I like the idea of doing Crewe and covering the old railway towns for the first two 24 hour vids. Cheers as always John!

    very nice! glad its finished now as was getting bored with no 68s lol. Nice to see peggy likes 66s too lol
    Did you see the UTU with 37610 on it?

    • @DiggleJunction
      @DiggleJunction  Рік тому

      Haha me too! Peggy likes the sheds but think she much prefers the 68’s lol. I missed the UTU, think I’ve missed a bunch whilst I was away. NMT booked tomorrow so hopefully that runs.

      She wasn’t happy having to stop in the rain to film trains haha. Going to be using the viaduct a bit more for anything special, just a bit too far for everyday stuff. Just editing the next one atm, definitely going to be a good one 👍🏻

    Nuneaton is busy with freight and passenger trains. You said you may do the Midlands or the west coast main line. Nuneaton is both.

    • @DiggleJunction
      @DiggleJunction  Рік тому +2

      That's what i'm thinking too. Nuneaton has over 250 freights in the WTT on a given day, even if only 1/3 run it's still a lot!

    Great to see the diaries are back! Tremendous return and suits me better than the railcam where time can be pressing. Might be nice to do a snapshot compilation of the action some time? Congratulations on 2k subscribers, no surprise really. Nuneaton sounds good, Crewe would be my second choice. Keep up the good work👍

      Feels good to be filming here again! I just treat the railcam as an addition to the channel to supplement the vids but I like the idea of a compilation, food for thought. Thanks for the congrats, it’s unbelievable how quickly things have been moving along. Hopefully it means the videos can be improved more and more. Thanks again mate 👍🏻

      Cheers keef, tell me about it. I rushed out like a mad man after the allocation said 73, thinking "I can't miss that up here" so was very disappointed. Salt in the wound I left my monopod there and had to drive all the way back lol.

    What camera and tripod are you using here Luke? And at one point, footage looks like you switched briefly to a Gopro on a bridge.

    • @DiggleJunction
      @DiggleJunction  Рік тому

      I do occasionally use a GoPro but not very often. Almost all shots are an iPhone 14 pro max on one of a tripod, monopod or short gorilla tripod. Only tend to use the full tripod on platforms so doesn’t get too much use for Diggle diaries. Hope this helps mate 👍🏻

      It looks like used ballast that will have been loaded by a digger, I suppose it just depends how much is around the train as it’s stopped. Not 100% sure though.

  • @udstm

    Can someone explain the red light at the start is that a stop ? If so why did he go through. New too trains

    • @keefr22
      @keefr22 Рік тому +2

      Normally yes it would be a stop signal, but the line is under an engineer's possession, so the man in orange hi-vis will have given the driver instructions to proceed past it.

    • @Oddly1970
      @Oddly1970 Рік тому

      Banksman gave locomotive green light with it been engineering work if it went through without the banksman it would have set a track side bang .

    • @DiggleJunction
      @DiggleJunction  Рік тому +2

      @@udstm Decoy is the name of the yard over in Doncaster, 'Up Decoy' is used mainly for the formation and marshalling of infrastructure trains for possessions. The 'Down' is used only really used as a holding location these days I believe. The decoy name comes from it originally being an area used to create a false bombing target to divert enemy bombers away from the town in the second world war.

      Haha you’re right, they’re very strange in person but by far not the weirdest I managed to film. I believe they’re that shape to reduce the piston effect and the loud boom of them entering tunnels so quickly. A long way from a northern 142. Happy to filming back in Diggle though. Cheers John.
