Becks music, this song , this Video, is sheer genius!! I am 65 years old and am so thankful that I lived to experience his music!! There is only one other artist in my life that made music that impressed me sooooooooooooo much and that was Jimi Hendrix!! Beck is more human than humanly possible!! I considered jumping off a 12 story building recently and started listening to his music and watching his Videos. His music saved my life. I will never meet you Beck but from all that is in me, thank you!! I will never let the Sun catch me crying again and if I am caught crying it it will be tears of gratitude not sadness.
So glad that you are still with us Michael! Thanks for sharing your experience with becks music :) I agree he is great and so diverse!
hope you doing well :)!
Hey MB, stick around for the third act. You'll be glad you did.
wow, that's a great post. thanks for your story, and glad you found Beck
He reminds me of the talking heads
A shadow dragging the man is one of the best ideas i've seen (either Beck or Gondry) do.
plus that guitar tone at 3:35 HAS to be an homage to Os Mutantes.
"The music drags, the music drags" as Beck is literally dragged. I love it.
This song starts with a "bossa nova" sketch and ends with a guitar from "Mutantes", this is Brazil in vein baby!
One of my fave Beck songs, you can never pin down that dudes style, he's all over the place, one day he's Dylan, next day he's Prince. He's beyond bad ass.
That is the sign of a quality musician. He is easily the best musician america produced in the 1990s.
That'd be Neal Morse. Or Kevin Gilbert (altho he started in late 80s).
@@jeanlundi2141that group of words you call a opinion is wrong
@@Jaysquared4 It's really not.
This is Beck's best song. Totally under-rated.
Totally agree!
I'm not sure it was ever under rated.weve seen beck live and it goes down a treat mate...it's all love though ✌️🐜
Yup I agree
Nop.
On a scale of 0 to 10, this song is an 11!! Saved my life. 68 now and having the time of my life!!
Can’t wait to see this dude live next month! Beck’s still rockin 2023!
How was it?
Bossa nova, Tropicalismo and Beck: Perfect.
Never writes a bad song
A rare breed
Beautiful. The guy is one of the most remarkable and creative Musicians of the last 30 years.
Listening to Mix-Beck-50+ Videos" while making breakfast for a sleeping family...the perfect morning!
His music is brilliant. His videos exist in a world of their own.
michel gondry man. His videos never fail to impress
Beck's videos are brilliantly insane.
Indeed...and this is just one of my favorites...
Therefore they're Genius!
This one is from Michel Gondry. Cocorico!
Beck's videos are like dreams. They flow through these strange scenes and you don't have to know exactly what it means..you just want to stay there!
Nicely put
true
Beck is a genius!
One of my faves by beck! Still rockin in 2024 til infinity. It’s amazing how good music can take you back to a much simpler time. I time traveled back to 1999..what a time to be alive 🌻🔊🔊🔊🔊
The idea behind the video was "everything the wrong way round"... work at the beach, holiday in an office; photos on the wall, wallpaper in the frames; the human following the shadow; the man carrying a car etc...
Trivia: in the scene where Beck's packing a case in his bedroom, the photos on the wall are of his mother Bibbe Hansen, and of himself and younger brother Channing as children.
Also it's windy inside the plane and calm outside.
How many people died to bring you this information?
Christian Taylor yeah me too I also love weird stuff like this
All this years trying to know this, thanks :D
dont give the trivia answers in the comment, make us work a little homefry
I always loved Beck.... This video made something inside....I awakened as a person to Beck's music....
o m g - finding this is like stumbling across something u dreamt. iheard this song years ago - knew part of the lyrics "sun see you crying" and could NEVER find the song again..till today.. so happy!! thought I was crazy. well - I may be crazy but I KNEW I heard this song! so happy!
love this song, had it on an early Creative MP3 player, could only fit about 8 songs on there
That bastard called me dead weight!
Beck is a vastly underrated artist. Maybe the best of his generation.
same par as the Beatles, Black Sabbath and David Bowie personally.
This song so brings me back to the late mid-90s. Good times mixed with badness. Strangeness for sure. Formative years unarguably.
Beck always comes up with such intriguing sounds and lyrics!
Much love from Hannover, Germany! Beck is one of my favourite artists.
There is literally no one quite like Beck
Michael cera maybe a bit
Nice! Someone new to check out!
Marty Deeks
+I Kill Communists No one knows him! I can text him! Do you know he has kids? One time, when Beck was singing on stage
, his son came on and just wondered around!! 😂
+Tina Harker that's awesome, he's such a cool dude.
Do do do do do do do--words can't describe the awesomeness of this 90s gem!!!!
Loving the basa nova beat ❤ I love that movie too 😊
I work at that movie theater! :D
Beck reminds us that we must laugh lest we cry. This guy DID it, and he does it so well. I'd follow him nowhere.
Beck you are a cool guy .a nice looking guy too ..you have some catchy tunes ..one thing I like about you is you don't always sound the same..love ya ❤️ xxxxooo
As a bossa nova fan this song includes a bossa guitar in the style of Joao Gilberto and an organ in the Style of Walter Wanderley. A superb tribute from Beck to those brazilian giants.
Still one of my favorite songs ever. Brings me back to childhood, and soooo fitting for Life Less Ordinary.
Never forget!
Thank you GOD for providing an OCEAN OF MUSIC for me to swim in!! My cup has simply over flowed, drinking from the saucer with my Cat Pepper. LOL!! Have you got the picture in your head?? I'm down on all fours sharing a saucer of milk with Pepper!! Oh the humanity!!
i am 48. i have always thought of going to the states and smoke enough whatever to see things that way since 19.
How much music has this human made, i swear
I love Beck, his world is beautiful
I had this song stuck in my head and couldn't remember the name.
I eventually found it by typing "beck do do do do"
The miracle of the internet
Something special in it. I am remembering of positive memories that i never had
Proud to be with Beck and of the Week of the Unconventional. Literally never fails to produce sound touching dark and light between his fingers (fan since 1995). Thank you from a pixel inside this plane.
The scene he paints with words, the poetry his expression his fearless art and that is why I ❤ him
I've finally found this song! I've heard it on the radio many years ago, and tried to find it. As I didn't know the title it didn't go out, only suspected it shall be Beck.
Great song.
And his crazy, psychedelic, creative videos, just fantastic!

Beck - The Coolest Man in Existance
Beck & Gondry ! Yeps!
14 years ago and only 2.5 million views??? These are so good.
This just took me on SO MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS
A Life Less Ordinary is such an underrated movie
I can't believe I've never took the time to watch this video until now.
One of the best music videos of all time right here.
yeah, i was either too drunk or too stoned all the time then. lol
can't believe it's been so many years. my stoner buddy which introduced me this just turned grandpa yesterday. LOL
Always loved this song simply because of lyrics feels like he is describing G Orwell 1984
Who LOVES Beck?
Me!
The whole world
Jesus loves Beck
Tina Harker Me! (from japan)
WhyWorry Boy is he operating thetan or what?
"Skies burned, eyes turned" is for some reason an unbelievably underrated lyric
I like how mos of the video focuses on Beck and not the movie, lol!
I love that organ middle eight bit with that bass line,so cool 😘
This was peak Beck. 1996-1999 was his most brilliant period
1992-2019 for me
I finally rediscovered Beck. Rejoice.
this video was made 22 years ago and I remember when it came out. How cool is to grow old surrounded by amazing artists such as Beck.
nah man.
it is sad whn u see ppl grew out of it while u are still stuck in the era alone. lol
imagine the dude which taught u how to smoke weed and introduced u Beck just turned grandpa literally two days ago.
lol
@@MrNajibrazak I don't know what you're talking about. Who did Beck teach how to smoke, and who is stuck in that era? I for one love his new material too. Nothing wrong with growing old.
I haven’t drank in like 7 years and just drank half a bottle of pineapple new Amsterdam and I now ,,, finally understand this song !!!!
Hank you beck !!!!
Classic song.
Yes!
GENIUS!!!!!!
What a weird and wonderful video.
Light years above most modern music.
Always takes me back to high school in 96. Boring afternoons in class dreading homework and wishing I was done... I thought my life was so difficult at that point lol if only I knew what "adulthood" would bring.
The nineties were by far America's best musical production period of all time.
My God i Miss this Era so 😔💔
I do to😭😭😭

Top-notch
On a highway, unpaved, going my way
You're so alone today
Like a ghost town, I've found
There's no belief, no salt in the sea
Is it true what they say? You can't behave
You gamble your soul away
Measuring the dreams, of this life seems
Like the gristle of loneliness
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Like an ice age, nice days, are on your way
Sipping the golden drinks
On a rip-tide, freak's ride
Asleep inside, a parasite's appetite
Oh, say can't you see? The chemistry
The parasites, the clean up fee
Death never hands recycled cans
And get well cars to the hostage vans
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
You're a deadweight, right straight
On your way
Sunk in the midnight shade
Skies burned, eyes turned
Learning to counterfeit their disease
In this town where we roam
We bluff our souls
In canteen patios
Drink the bravest draught
The music drags
The music drags
The music drags
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Just saw Beck for thr second time in my life: first in Napoli, then in Porto. June 10th and 11th😍😍😍😍
lucky you, i have been a fan since 1993 and have yet to have the chance of seeing him.
Beck is one of my heros. Love his music. And he escaped Scientology
He never was a scientologist , just a rumor.
@@thomascampbell8064 ... a rumor that he either spread himself, or was horribly misquoted and never bothered to correct. web.archive.org/web/20100915054237/www.tribune.ie/article/2005/jun/12/a-sort-of-homecoming/
"Yeah, I'm a Scientologist".
I'm happy for him that he managed to get, uh, 'round the bend.
@@thomascampbell8064 not totally a rumor - he said he was at one point. but based on him saying he isnt a scientologist i assume he was probably only saying he was so he wouldnt be estranged from his father
in my top 10 Beck songs...for now😁
ugh you guys, why is beck so freakin amazing and his videos are always amazing and his albums are always amazing??
beck drank the essence of amazingness mistakingly thought it was Absynthe while he was high on weed.
Tropicalia moviment influncies.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! The video, much respect and ups, as always from Beck's visual interpretations. As for the song, probably the best riddled interpretation of the character of the man who's lost in the end times... Seriously, if any of you listeners know the bible, specifically Revelation and Timothy, you will see this song is as a parable to them. Most all of Beck's music is not just laid out. One must think it on through.... BIG ups to anyone else who's noticed.
Artist and creativity will save us.
Lyrics:
On a highway unpaved, goin' my way
You're so alone today
Like a ghost town I've found
There's no relief, no soul, no mercy
Is it true what they say
You can't behave
You gamble your soul away
Measuring a jinx of this life seems
Like the gristle of loneliness
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Don't let the sun catch you cryin'
Like an ice age, nice days on your way
Sipping the golden days on a riptide
Freak's ride, sleep inside

Oh, say can't you see the chemistry
The parasites that clean up for me?

You're a deadweight, right straight
On your way, sunk in the midnight shade
Skies burn, eyes turn

In this town where we roam
We bluff our souls
On canteen patio
Drink the latest draft
The music drags

Thank you for those lyrics, Gabriel! Sometimes they're hard to figure out.

@@calebwitts1232 Hey--thanks! You're right. I owe you one. Perhaps for a Kevin Parker song? Nah. You prolly know! 😆
Woke up with this tune in my head. Fffff love you beck.
So far ahead of his time. As a middle aged music lover, I lost my connection. Ironic how I had to go back to Beck, to connect with the present. He absolutely bridges the gap...as he did then.
well said
This kind of statement can be literally found at every 90's video.
I like when his shadow is dragging him!
Beck videos always look like "found footage" to me.
yeah, before 'found footage' was 'a thing'.
watch 'A Life Less Ordinary', Ewan McGregor & Cam Diaz.
shorebreak69
watch CrazyNight and GroundnPound via growth...
NULL ZERO yeah!
look again
Oh shit, walking drums... YES!
It's cool when an artist releases between-album singles like this that sound like such a natural segue between the two albums. Jethro Tull did it years earlier with 'Life Is a Long Song', between Aqualung and Thick as a Brick.
Yo beck knows how to mix work and pleasure for sure
For some reason I wake up everyday most of the time with this song in my head
a life less ordinary is definitely one of the coolest 1990s movies EVAR!!!!
yeeey!!! desde que tengo 9 anios no escuchaba esta cancion!!! :'D al fin la encontre! esos si son anios de gloriosa musica!!!
EXCELENTE CANCION Y VIDEO :)
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Forgot how much I enjoyed this song & video ;)
it's only beck and gondry, doesn't matter the year, it is awesome and I love it
1.1 Mio. views?
Man, Beck is such an under-recognized artist
True, beautiful words
Beck is the John Cleese of music.
Genius
I love the way he plays the straw. I didn't realize he played it on this track too.
Beck as Michael Cera in a music video in a movie theater promoting A Life Less Ordinary in a music video = Beckception.
even though this was four years ago, ewan mcgregor
brrnay this film came out around ‘97. This was shortly after Odelay, his second major label album (it was the fifth album overall)
you're damn right, 90s rock!!!!!!!!!
The real meaning of this song is to not let the sun 🌞 catch you crying 😭. It’s really simple, why do some read so deep into things? If the sun catches him crying then it will beat his back with scorching heat and he is fighting his own battles with his demons. That’s about the shoes walking ahead of him. You know actually I think he was just really really Really high.
90´S HAD THE BEST VIDEO ¡¡¡ EVER¡
I want Beck to randomly show up at a movie theater I'm in.
One of my all time favourites! Unique, interesting, cool-whatever adjectives you like, they apply to this tune
In the 90's Beck looked like a young David "Hutch" Soul..only physically, not musically
Wow these are some wonderful and really successful concepts in this video. super refreshing and creative.
One of my faves from him. :)
Probably my favourite Beck song.......................................................
