    This is one of the best playthroughs / rules explanations I’ve seen! I have greatly enjoyed your segment on the Dice Tower. Keep up the great work.

    I enjoyed the video! I keep looking for good playthrough games and explanation games. Dragonfire in general doesn't play well with just 2 characters. It's a lot harder to win that way. It plays best with 4, but I have not tried it with 6 yet. A point of clarification on rules:
    21:20 - If you can't clear a level on an encounter, any damage done that turn is lost. So you would not have been able to do 1 colorless damage to the Kobold and carry that over to another turn for someone else to do damage and clear the level. The cleric would have had to play 2 cards to deal 2 colorless damage to clear that first level. Also, the damage markers are obscuring the details of the level, so for this reason, I only move a damage marker over a level once it has been cleared. This keeps the next level in clear view so you know how many of what kind of damage is required to clear the next level. :)
    I have played several times, and I still have to keep a Turn Order reference in front of me or I will absolutely forget to do stuff every single turn!

      I find 2 easiest since you add a Bless but I think it plays best with 4, if you have the extra characters from expansions 4+ is good aswell but some scenarios don't have the encounters to accommodate a larger party.

    This video was SUPER helpful. You do a great job of explaining it so clearly.
    I do have one question though; at 23:16 you bring the level down on the kobold from his 2 damage level with only one damage from your grace card (adding the damage from the previous grapple card played by the previous character on their turn). I thought I saw in a video from another youtuber that you had to build up that much damage on a single turn and it couldn't be split up like that. I don't own the game yet so I don't have a rule book to actually look at.

      This was indeed an error : as per the manual : "Partial damage dealt to a level is removed at the end of each
      player’s turn. In other words, if you do not defeat a level in one turn, any damage applied to that level in that turn is lost." So yeah, deal the damage in one go or the (partial) damage is lost.

    Good videos, thanks! I noticed 2 mistakes:
    @23:25 - Need to play 2 cards; 2 colorless level.
    @29:47 Cycling the Market does not occur during a Short Rest (see p. 23).

    • @BeyondSolitaire
      @BeyondSolitaire  7 років тому +1

      Thanks! I totally missed that short rest rule. (I always miss something!) I split that colorless damage across 2 turns, which might have been an error, but I can't remember being told it wasn't allowed anywhere in the rules...

    • @badaboumpowpow
      @badaboumpowpow 7 років тому +3

      ah, yes you can't split: "Partial damage dealt to a level is removed at the end of each
      player’s turn. In other words, if you do not defeat a level in one
      turn, any damage applied to that level in that turn is lost." p.16 :)

    You like solo play, huh? I’m exclusively a solo gamer, though I very rarely play solo modes. I play four characters for Dragonfire/Crossfire, and I play competitive games against myself, as long as they don’t rely too heavily on hidden info. I also use games as toolboxes for my own rule sets and adventures. It’s nice to meet you!

    • @BeyondSolitaire
      @BeyondSolitaire  6 років тому

      You too! I am always happy to meet other solo gamers. :) As far as I'm concerned, if you're playing by yourself, you are a solo gamer, with or without "official" solo modes!

    Hey thanks for the clear explanation but I think the rules were a bit vague on what you do with the market cards once you purchase them do they stay in your deck indefinitely or do they go back to market at end of adventure?

    I might spot two "small" mistakes, beside the already mentioned ones.
    @29:47 "Purchase Cards(during Short Rest): Starting with the person to the left of the player who ended the previous Scene". So your devotion class should have bought 1st. Not a big deal in a solo game though.
    "Cycling the Market: If you do not purchase a card from the Market, reveal a new Market card from the deck. You must replace one
    of the existing Market cards with it and discard the replaced card." That mean you CAN draw the card 1st and then decide wich card you want to discard form the market. Might make a diffrence sometimes.

    I wrote this in 2019. Weird how things can change fast. Oops on me!
    MTG is cool, but it's like betting your house on Ned Stark claiming the Iron Throne.
    Oops!
    Dragonfire is a fun, cooperative experience with great game mechanics and replayability.
    Also, you keep your characters between sessions. They keep getting tougher as their decks grow full of fun surprises to flummox the forces of evil!

    I have been exploring around the boardgame youtube community for about a week. I was always interested in boardgames but never got into them until recently, I want to start my collection and your channel is great for that! :D Keep up the great videos !
    A question on dragonfire (solo) , do you recommend expansions? if yes, which one should be the first one to pick up?

    • @BeyondSolitaire
      @BeyondSolitaire  6 років тому +2

      Congrats on getting into the best hobby there is!
      As for Dragonfire, I recommend getting the base game and playing it a few times before buying any expansions, since it seems to be an acquired taste.
      If you try it and like it, there are extra treasure and hero packs (Wondrous Treasures and Heroes of the Sword Coast). For more adventures, grab Dragonspear Castle and then Chaos in the Trollclaws.
