Aunty, when steaming the rice, can try to make a few holes in the middle of the rice so that the steam is able to rise and not just trap below the rice ( if using cloth, not plate). In the video, your rice is cooked because the plate you use is smaller than the steamer. Hence, the steam is able to rise up and distributed on top of the rice, steaming the rice. The flow of the steam will ensure the rice is cooked. I have tried using instant crockpot and cloth to steam glutinous rice and first time steam, I set the temperature at high and the rice at the bottom was very soggy whereas the top was a bit hard. The next time I steam, I set it low and made a few wholes in the middle of the rice, allowing distribution of steam and the rice was well cooked. I hope this helps
My late mom pour the pulut into the steamer, but place a big plate below to collect any pulut that drop out from the hole, put the steamer to steam then pour the drop off pulut back to steamer. Very easy and fast. I'm doing it too whenever I steam pulut.
rs Liew, I noticed you always use 1-layer steamer to cook Yam Cake, Radish cake and this nasi kunyit; I'm thinking of buying a 3-layer steamer, but I wonder if the steam is strong enough to cook my Yam cake etc? Hi...i think you are refering to my posting regarding the steam rice not cooked. Well i hv actually follow all the steps in your video..i am also using the same steaming pot as you do. My fire is also very high...but the end result..after even steaming a long time..the rice is still half cooked..untl i have to pour water into the rice to get it cooked. I dont know what went wrong..but i want to ask you one question after watching your nasi kunyit...did you soak your rice in your nasi lemak video b4 you steam the rice...coz after thinking..this could be why my rice is not cooked in steaming process for the nasi lemak.
hi Kenny 🙋♀️nasi lemak I never soak. Just rinse only (coz if after soak or steam cook if will too brittle/soft. Pulut kunyit I soak for 1 hour. Coz I worry some will b uncook. So better soak for aan hour ( glutinous rice soak for an hr is easy to cook) sorry my English is very poor. Hope u understand. Tqvm
For health sake, use calamansi juice. Use 3 medium size ones. Cucumber- wash it clean, try not to skin it...has lots of nutrients. Use 2tsp of brown sugar for a cucumber n etc... Try it! I even drink the juice of the pickle...yummy...
