George Friedman always carries one's expectation for level discussion, but many props to Mr. Sushentsov for being very genial and intelligent in his counter-arguments. One gets the feeling that while both men love their country and would die for their respective homelands, they can acknowledge when their own side oversteps or miscalculates in their analysis of their rivals and allies. Regardless of charges of propaganda leveled at both Russia and America, it is comforting to see that at the "serious" level of analysis, both countries have deep pools of talent that are introspective enough to see their own flaws, humble enough to accept new information, intelligent enough to find a way to incorporate said information into their analysis, yet tough enough not to back down when others overstep in their own attacks and capable enough of countering misinformation or aggression from the other side. All in all, it seems very professional, and it is a joy to behold.

DivineSoB I don't think Mr Friedman cares for his country; he cares for himself and his class. He represents the elites and their pensions/assets. He is a wormtounge and a warmonger.

Andrew Millar : Huh? No, he is a Seldon-like student of geopolitics, looking at the big picture over long spans of time.

Very interesting. One thing you can't acuse Russia for is that it does not have some smart and intelligent people.

Piotrek, you know that Poland is the future of Europe and that the USA is placing a lot of emphasis on your country. Best of luck and love from Greece.

Please, Piotrek stay away from this dark force called German. A truly evil country. Poland is the best and you have only friends in Greece.

With all seriousness, Slavic countries, are the future of Europe. Historically, two most successful Slavic countries were Russland and Poland. And they are the future. Russia will probably take more chunks of Belarus and Ukraine and leave the domination of Eastern Europe to Poland. While Russia wil try to focus on the Far East, it will be a sort of a European player in that area.

I'm not saying Russia and germany would join in any way. Germany is going down the drain in 50 years or so, rules of demographics.
As german population ages, and gets replaced by Polish, Slavic and Turkish elements, it's power is going to fade. it's eastern fringes are perhaps even going to be taken by Czechia or Poland, which would be kind of ironic, considering Eastern Germany and Austria were Slavic a tousand years ago.
Like I said in a previous comment, The future of Europe are Poland, Turkey and Russia.

As a general rule, never bet against the Russians being able to withstand hardship.
During the siege of Leningrad, people had to eat the bodies of their dead relatives to survive. A nation with experiences like that in it's history is unlikely to be seriously bothered by a few US sanctions, especially when the general feeling within Russia is that the sanctions are an unjust attack against their nation.

I always admired Friedman for his honest assessments - not long ago on YT I heard him saying that by taking Ukraine in Maidan the US put their foot in the door to Russia making it basically open to any western aggression - you would never hear that on CNN, Fox or NYT who always blame Russia for Eastern Ukraine and Crimea without explaining the Russian actions. This interview however is rather disappointing as his statements represent the official views of the establishment.

Very good to see George taken off his laurels, I hope there will be additional viewpoints in the future. Also: Mr. Sushentsov made Russia sound "tsundere" towards the U.S.

George says both countries did something to each other covertly, by playing in other countries. AND THEN HE SAYS, lets not discuss why change of power happened in Ukraine in 2014 on Maidan. this is stupidly.

Eduard Malkhasyan I agree, as a Russian who did a thesis on Russia i can say with confidence that many of the points mentioned about Russia are overstated. Russia is NOT well diversified as he claims, in fact many academics are still discussing this issue. It may take many years more before that can happen.
