I wouldn’t mind seeing him play something's other than 60 card formats, but he’s entertaining, nonetheless. IMO, limited is an essential part of MtG so I can’t grasp the idea of just not playing it at all. Generally, if a streamer just posts standard gameplay videos (CGB, PowrD, Dev) I don’t bother.
It got easier after I managed to catch up and craft all the lands I needed. Granted, I play pioneer so it's only 1-2 cards per set I actually need at rare.
This deck successfully convinced me to move to B03. It's also been INCREDIBLE on the win rate percentage. a preposterous amount of close calls, but the patience and timing of it are fun and effective! thank you!!
In Historic Artisan you also get Cryptic Serpent. There, we call the deck "Turbo Terror" (since the first iteration was about playing Terror on turn 2 as often as possible).
I believe normally the "pick up the Baloth and Discard it" would work, but since the Blightmouth Viper functions on how many Blight counters are on it, and it had none yet, it didn't make you discard. I'm not sure you could make it work if you waited for the Blight counter to resolve either since the Discard/Sacrifice effect is part of the same trigger.
Seth: "So far, Duskmourn has been a reeaally sweet set for budget decks, especially this one!" Me: But...this deck doesn't have a single duskmourn card... :/ Love the deck though! Cashing in rare wildcards right away!
Woah, Seth having 9 siblings was an unexpected but fun surprise. I've got 9 siblings as well and certainly know the level of chaos that can come from those situations. My Mom sometimes slipped up and called me by my uncle (her brother's) name and I still joke with her about it to this day because at least with my siblings I was the 8th and it made sense to get us mixed up by that point.
My grandmother, god rest her soul, did what your mother does too Seth - flipping through the names of the grandkids until she hit the right one. She always hit the right one, but kinda like saying your ABC's out loud is just how she remembered it.
I suspect Overlord of the Floodpits would synergize nicely with this deck. It triggers Up the Beanstalk when cast as Impending, and it allows you to feed your graveyard when it enters and attacks.
21:41 This is actually why I tend to sideboard out Up The Beanstalk against very aggro decks (been playing your Goyf & Beans deck with the addition of overlord of the balemurk lately). You have to start with removal or stuff that builds to the threats fast, and if you survive to the point where you can slow down enough to start building up card draw, you're usually already winning anyway.
Jim Davis played a version of this that has a red sideboard, playable with one mountain in the sideboard and a bunch of cheap cards that fetch basics. Might be cuter than it is useful, but it IS very cute
5:00 Seth says "crab" here but I believe he means "Bat." He is talking about casting his Up a Beanstalk so that it wont be exiled if the opponent has a deep-cavern bat.
Built a similar deck recently but the power of four Three Steps Ahead to make token copies of crabs let me steal some games where the opponent went super wide before I had the counter magic. Highly recommend.
Slight improvement for the deck that adds a bit of duskmourn into the deck if you have the rares, I think ghost vacuum is ATM the premier colorless graveyard hate in the sideboard. I've almost always been able to activate it to blow out a reanimate effect. The decks ATM that interact with the graveyard I fear the most all get wrecked by both halves of ghost vacuum. I also think this deck might want overlord of the floodpits but have struggled to figure out what I want to cut for it.
I feel like toxic “made it” to the intended degree. Other than skrelv, and through that the double striker, it’s got mostly limited power level creatures, and all of its enablers are stuff that hard locks them into a very “fair” gameplay. Fair as in basic magic, playing non haste creatures, then attacking with them, rather than some kind of indirect strategy(spellslinger, sacrifice, discard, flash, etc) Like the G/W guy who buffs toxic attackers but doesn’t give them more toxic, enabling them to just fairly attack better, or the hive that, while very good, is a 2 drop that doesn’t get you an attacker until 2 turns later, in an aggro archetype. On the other hand, rotpriest is the complete opposite of everything I’m talking about. However, the decks where it does its bullshit are not actually toxic decks, they’re spellslinger decks. In toxic decks that aren’t built around it, it punishes your opponent for removing your creatures, again, incentivizing “fair” gameplay of normal creature combat, or rewarding you for playing the single toxic buff spell. Basically, I’m assuming toxic was intended as a “fair” aggro strategy, which it does a solid job of being, rather than a format defining mechanic.
Hmmmmmm. I have not played standard in ages. I have heard so many good things about this current standard i might sleeve something up and hit an FNM. It might be this. I like drawing
Seth been watching forever, like the whole mtg goldfish team, never once has anyone called you saffronolive, youre definitely better known as seth, only those who see you online see saffronolive, and then go oh its seth 😂😂😂😂😂
@@Erribell currently some variation of go for the throat, ruthless negotiation, sheoldred's edict, and deadly cover-up, duress in the sideboard. I cut This Town Ain't Big Enough, into the flood maw, seed of hope, and Bushwhack (analyze the pollen has performed better). The deck lives and dies on its ability to slow the game down and generate incremental value, so removal and disruption makes it difficult for opponents to close out the game while you fill the graveyard naturally.
@@ErribellOh, i also cut stormchaser's talent. It does a decent job with This town ain't big enough, but outside of that specific synergy i didn't love it

A little disappointed this deck now is in the spotlight I have been playing it since duskmorn came out and have nearly gotten to mythic on it now people will be gunning for it
I played against a version of this deck in Bo1 last week, and I absolutely wrecked it with the lone copy of Rest In Peace I play because of all the annoying reanimate shenanigans that everyone is playing It was delightful
Missed opportunity not calling this deck “Cache Crab” (feat. Eddy Money)
Eddy Murky?
@@MasterCrvo excellent, 10/10. Also acceptable was frEddy Murkery
It’s a budget deck that revolves around getting discounts. So it’s clearly Mr. Krabs.
If there's anything Seth loves, its casting high mana value spells for cheap to draw with Beans in Standard.
Just needs a -monicon
I 10000% get it, it feels so great to just draw a card on everything you do, I feel like I’m playing a glimpse of nature elf deck
I love how consistent and joyful SaffronOlive is everytime I see him playing. This is definitely my favorite channel for MTG content
Yeah, between this and CardMarket, top tier Magic fun IMO.

It really irks me how difficult it it to have a stock of rare wildcards. I currently have 3 rare and 22 mythic wildcards.
It got easier after I managed to catch up and craft all the lands I needed. Granted, I play pioneer so it's only 1-2 cards per set I actually need at rare.
Draft a lot. Don't craft niche cards unless you really need them. Should work fine. Especially drafting will get you lots of wildcards fast.
@@SonnigesDeutschland Huh. Thanks for the advice. I have a bunch of unused draft tokens since I never tried it. Now I have a reason to.
Fuckin same lol
I have over 130 rare wildcards 🤑

I need a deck with Overlord of the Boilerbiggles and Eddymoney Crab

Hi Seth! Cool deck. I have a similar idea for a commander deck using Glarb, Calamity’s Augur. So thanks for the inspiration!
