NO BECAUSE in euphoria S1, Sam literally wrote a part in the script trying to say that Maddie (at age 14) was the one in control when she was gr00med by a 40 year old man. yuck.
As much as I adore when people who make false accusations are exposed, Steven using it for some agenda is not helping anybody, let alone the victims of false accusations.
I’m not surprised about Sam’s “the the victim is actually the villain” message in Euphoria they point out that Maddie was in a “sexual relationship” with an adult, essentially being groomed and SAed by a grown man at 14, but they try to say that Maddie, who again, was 14 at the time, was the one in control, and manipulating the ADULT man? He’s just a whole ass creep
if a 14 year old was really in control over a whole grown adult man, either that man was insanely stupid or the 14 year old was an anomaly with some issues. Cause in the real world that 14 year old is a VICTIM
The fact that The Weekend was rich/powerful enough to write himself into the lead role of a primetime HBO show with zero acting abilities is actually more telling of the way Hollywood works than anything in this show.
Yep he was given this with no ability and the fact that 99% of actors and “famous” people are nepo babies now has really added to the deterioration of the industry

Not just random two men could do that. At least one of them should've good connection so he could make his kinky Wattpad story approved to be filmed and aired.
The last episode really has: * a woman lie about being abused by her parent * a woman lie about being sexually assaulted * actually the abuse victim was the master manipulator all along! I think Sam should get investigated

I'm honestly not shocked the idol got majority bad reviews. I remember hearing criticism regarding euphoria S2, which was that Cassie (Sydney Sweeney's character) was heavily s3xualised - shown n-ked a lot and saying weird things, yet having little to no character development. and her character is supposed to be 16 to 17 years old, like what kind of fantasy does sam live in? i love realistic and honest media, but he's just romanticising Cassie's trauma and humiliating her character. it took me months and months to realise that the Cassie and maddy stage fight scene was completely unnecessary, and done to satisfy to fandom's hatred for Cassie and to humiliate her character. it's disgusting honestly. I'm glad people have realised that he's not making art, he's making weird p0rn content with sometimes teenage characters and it's fvcked up. just because it's not inherently illegal doesn't mean it's moral.
The intimacy co-ordinator is not just on set for the talent but the whole crew. Just because she is happy to be naked doesn't mean the crew have consented or comfortable with seeing nudity - especially if I wasnt agreed too
This. No one else has made this point. Imagine a male pop star just whipping his dick out in front of people at work and we're supposed to as an audience regard the person trying to stop him as a nuisance????
I can't help but feel like that scene was included because Sam is tired of the restrictions and cristsm he gets for constantly trying to have his actors be nude in EVERY SINGLE SHOT

I think Euphoria made it blatantly obvious that Sam Levinson doesn’t see women as equally complex people or equal in general. Every girl’s storyline except Rue’s was centered around a man, and Rue is only an exception because she’s based on Sam. The Idol never deserved the benefit of the doubt and I think it says a lot about The Weeknd as a person that he worked with Sam to write it and basically fired the female director for having a female perspective. It was never satire, it’s just an insanely overpriced “hey guys! Women can be bad people too!” And honestly it makes me wanna puke to think of all the money that was spent on something so bad and unnecessary in every single way

The fact that it adds literally NOTHING to the story. She could have been 18 or early 20s and it would have made no meaningful difference EXCEPT that weirdos wouldn't be able to get off to the idea of a naked minor.....
As someone who refused to watch it, I am surprised (yet not) about her being underage. I thought she was supposed to be 20-25 from the clips I've seen on Twitter.
Thank you!! I feel disgusted by it because although the actor is of age this is sick. The reveal was so unexpected and heartbreaking that they chose to add this, it had ZEROO importance to the storyline
@@arenerys I guessed she was around 24 until she revealed her actual age. I thought it was weird and uncomfortable that she was acting so childlike but then they went and revealed she's an actual child... Very gross. She was already vulnerable enough for her to be susceptible to Tedros just from being a homeless heroin addict. The only reason they went the extra mile to make her more vulnerable by making her an actual child was to be creepy.
The fact that Sam is notoriously known for hating intimacy coordinators...and he just put the intimacy coordinator in the script to make a commentary about why HE thinks they are useless is so disgusting.

What pisses me off is that in the end the entire point was that the poor abused girl lied about it all to get everything she wanted which is what men use against abused and r@ped women all the time. This is the most misogynistic show ever. The entire point is to undermine women and their voices
Except it’s even more stupid because she was literally already a star and could have whatever she wanted anyways so like none of this even begins to make sense
I hate that I predicted the show would pull that victim-blaming shit "twist" from day one. It doesn't even make sense, because it's not indicated that she ever needed to endure abuse (whether as real or fake victimization) to make her music before her breakdown. She HAD THE ACTUAL BREAKDOWN, but apparently it's entirely irrelevant to the plot! Why? Because regardless of whatever previous trauma was endured, Jocelyn was mentally intact enough to figure her way into and out of what was supposed to be an abusive relationship the whole time. She could have fallen in with Tedros and went through things without the edgy backstory.
i took the hairbrush thing kennie was going on about as not a lie, but as like a.,.. she got a new brush bc she let go of the past and needing her mom etc, starting a new era for herself

I think one of the worst parts of Sam Levinson's takeover of the show is that this was Anne Heche's last role before she died, and because Levinson couldn’t dare share credit with a woman (Amy Seimetz), all of her scenes were scrapped along with the 80% done work of Seimetz.

One of the worst pieces of the writing for me is in the conversation about Jocelyn's mother at the dinner table. "You didn't fight back?" "Why not" - How could anyone be so ignorant about how abuse works, especially when she was a little kid!! Really harmful questions that can perpetuate toxic attitudes towards the abused.
"Why didn't you, a child, just karate flip a grown adult five times bigger than you? It definitely wouldn't have made the adult angrier if you fought them, leading them to possibly offing you or kicking you out of the house. Definitely not. Furthermore, you as a child could get a job and support yourself if they do happen to kick you out, you wouldn't be left homeless on the streets! The police wouldn't have to come and put you in foster care, leading you to be put in a system so thoroughly corrupt and awful that your chances of being put in a happy family are lower than your chances of being exploited! In fact, if you fought back, they would've gained respect for you." -The Weeknd, probably
That’s the point. I in no way think the Idol is a great show, but criticizing a purposely antagonistic character for being insensitive and rude is a nothing take. If that’s your reaction then the writers did their job.
@@smolderiing7166 That's a fair viewpoint to have. There are certainly times where we must discuss character actions within the story as character actions, not just the words of the creator. However, you seem to have misunderstood the discussion we're having. We're not criticizing the character, we're criticizing the writers. When you write a flawed character, you are supposed to depict their actions are wrong. If you don't, you could end up promoting their misguided beliefs as "correct". Tedros is in no way depicted to be "in the wrong" for that scene. For example, Jocelyn doesn't blow up at him for saying something like that, nor does she explain she was a child. There is no fully hashed out narrative context, flashbacks or conversation that shows how Tedros was absolutely wrong IN the story, and later he even gets angry at Xavier for not "protecting" her even though Xavier was also a child. We have absolutely NO scenes that depict that Tedros is WRONG, and they NEED to put one in, or else they are telling the audience that this is a perfectly fine viewpoint to have. Even if you are making a flawed, horrible character, you can have nuance. This flawed character can save someone's life like Tedros did, and of course that's a good thing, so the writers should depict it as a good thing. But if you show Tedros saying something awful, it has to be shown to be awful in some way. That's why this whole show is bad, because it consistently has Tedros being awful, but it doesn't punish him in any way (no, Jocelyn making him her bf at the end of the show isn't a punishment), nor does it depict these things as awful, and so it just ends up romanticizing it. That was Kennie's whole point throughout the whole video, that this show doesn't do ANYTHING right. I hope this explained it.
yeah but like you can tell the writer's didn't intend it that way, they even sort of martyr him in that he's unjustly punished and that the outcome of what he did is good. Like while we as an audience can make the assumption that what he's doing and saying is wrong, that is evidently NOT what the writer's were intending. They even show and VERBALLY SAY/CONFIRM how these 'bad' things he does "helped" jocelyn, that what he says has merit and purpose. This isn't "it's a good portrayal of someone being insensitive and rude" the writer's just wrote something insensitive and CONSEQUENTIALLY the audience didn't like it. Sort of like when a character disliked by the writer ends up becoming a fan fav or something@@smolderiing7166
Why is it that whenever men write stories about women's lives its always so exploitation and humiliating? I'd say this and "Blonde" are on the same level of disgusting and disturbing.
I was furious cause me, my older sister (who's quite feminist) and my mum had an argument about blonde. my sister was trying to justify the hypers3xualisation of Marilyn's character, and got angry at me because I genuinely believed the directors and producers tried to write a story based on Marilyn's actual life. she was like "IT WAS THE 50s WOMEN WERE S3XUALISED ALL THE TIME" - but if the directors us wanted us to feel bad for marilyn, then why use that 50s gaze and not point anything terrible about it? it's just t0rturing a woman over and over again. it's not art or interesting. it's oddly gross and im glad other people were sus about blonde.

There was a time when sex and boobies were enough to draw an audience. People's reaction to this series is a sign of progress. Even though Euphoria is popular, many take issue with its sexualized portrayal of minors. As sick as it is, there was a time when viewers wouldn't have thought twice about it. Society has become far less accepting of sexual abuse and the exploitation of young people. That's a good thing.
What made me more mad is how nearing the end of the series, it’s revealed that Jocelyn lied about her mother’s abuse, and manipulated everyone around her to come out as the real villain. When throughout the show, they never gave any clues that she lied about it, not even in the description of the series. The dangerous message one can discern from the show is often what misogynist men believe; that women are indeed the true villains, and will either lie about trauma they’ve suffered to “manipulate ” men, or they asked, wanted to, and enjoyed being abused, and will only play victim to benefit them.
@@Sagacypher kinda reminds me about how one of the blonde actresses from Euphoria (never seen it) talked about how she didn't want to have her shirt off so much but was kinda manipulated into it by levinson.

Hollyweirds have twisted minds. But of course they choosed this story line rather than the original one, because the previous original one basically exposing drug and human trafficking issue, secret cult issue, women and underage kids exploitation in Hollywood. I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but I'm going to say it: I don't care that Jocelyn possibly lied about being abused by her mom, Tedros is still the villain of the show. Whether or not Jocelyn lied, she's still clearly in a vulnerable position, and Tedros preyed upon that vulnerability. Without a doubt, Tedros physically and emotionally abused Jocelyn, and there is absolutely nothing that can or should excuse that behavior.

If anyone feels sorry for that man enough to think that's he's the real victim, I can only laugh.. like what?? 😂😂😂
I will always mourn what the original version clearly was and there's something a bit TOO on the nose about the story of a woman's exploitation being ripped from a woman creator and twisted by men who wanted it to be more cruel and hurt the subject more.

I agree! A lot of the fans of the show try to gaslight us into thinking that he is actually great at acting bc we hate Tedros and find The Weeknd weird. But actually it looks like he was not capable of delivering a compelling and charismatic character, so all he brought was his own personality.
Sam Levinson and the Weekend killed the satire. Exploitative as Show Girls, with light flavors of Basic Instinct, as badly written as Glitter and a bat sh*t ending to cap a glorious f*cktangle. @dumbomni2857 Okay, but just because it affects women badly doesn't mean it's not an issue that should be brought up and discussed because it ruins lives.
@@Suren2122I think the issue people take with it is how it is dealt with. When a storyline like this is done poorly it can feed into misogynistic stereotypes that women are manipulative and cunning liars who will stop at nothing to destroy men's lives which itself is used to deny women who come forward with SA allegations and to protect their abusers (especially if said abuser is someone who is well liked and even respected by people, whether it would be their local community or by people around the world) so storylines like these can absolutely feed into these stereotypes which makes an already uphill battle even more harder

Sam's beef with intimacy coordinators is absolutely crazy because you'd think that- as a person whose career lives or dies on the back of the reputation they've created in his industry- he would be WAY more appreciative of the individuals whose sole purpose for being on his sets is to ensure that the entire crew feels safe and comfortable enough to continue to work with him. You'd think he would be scared of his reputation as a creative being shredded to shit in a blender or the very real possibility of studios and sponsors wanting nothing to do with him because all his projects just look like legal liabilities waiting to happen but no. I once read that the only reason Euphoria isn’t as bad as Sam wanted it to be is because Zendaya had some pull to steer him away or talk him away from some of his worst ideas. The Idol is what happens when you put two incels in a room with a pen and paper and then give them millions of dollars to film it. Also because lily is Johnny depps daughter, people kept bringing up Amber Heard, especially after that finale ‘twist.’ Wouldn’t surprise me if that was supposed to be some hamfisted reference to that situation.
jocelyn being a manipulative villain all along would have actually been interesting if the show overall was much better, both in script and execution. but because of how the show is, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and just comes across as villifying the woman to justify the man's wrongs and everything he did to her. like wow, just when i thought this show cannot possibly hit a new misogynistic low, it goes even lower. it's astounding. there's also the whole framing rob thing which is kinda iffy for me because it feels a lot like it contributes towards this negative perception of women who report sexual harassment against them in conservative circles and how they "lie" and it's just a whole misogynistic cherry on top of the misogynistic pie.
Agreed, the "Joss was behind it all along" arc could have worked if this had been literally any other show. But for this show, the ENTIRE PREMISE was supposed to be a depiction of how women are exploited in the industry ... but then in the end it was a woman who was the villain? Like I'm sorry but that's literally the exact opposite of what they were supposedly going for, that plot simply doesn't make sense for this specific show. 😭 And it wasn't even original because everyone was expecting that. Plus, with the false accusation against Rob, it clearly furthers the point that this show wasn't ever going to meaningfully explore women's struggles, because there's already such a stigma around women lying about SA by powerful men, and this show only worsened that perception. And even if the Jocelyn as a villain arc did somehow make logistical sense for this show, the execution is trash. Because the writers really want me to somehow feel sympathy for a creepy man who grooms underage girls, leads a cult, and fully believed himself to be beating a woman with the same brush her abuser used? I'm supposed to feel sorry that THAT guy got conned? Like I'm sorry but no lol. Whenever I get discouraged about my writing skills in the future I'm going to remember that I can literally never write anything worse than this trash.
I’m pretty sure if those intimidation scenes happened in real life, that man would have been laughed at IN HIS FACE like why did they pick men who were so much larger and physically imposing and then they have The Weekend looking like a toddler who thinks they know what being “hard” is. That nutritionist would have rocked his shit with one punch are you kidding me? lmao
Like I think they were trying to get the idea across of like “oh he’s crazy, he’d probably kill someone, and these people are picking up on that” and like nah it’s fucking LA, and that’s the least intimidating man I’ve ever seen
@@CherryBlossomBlyue yeah but that’s not what this is. This is someone trying way too hard to be intimidating in a way that seems super unnatural so it reads like false bravado. Which is why The Weekend being a bad actor and the production not noticing and putting him up against more physically imposing people only made it worse. Which ends up being canon to the plot anyways because they try to last second paint him as a sad mew mew.
I kinda expected the nutritionist to knock him out, it would actually give Jocelyn a reason to fire him instead of the "fire him because I want to >:-(" Also I think the nutritionist could sue Jo because of that, like firing him because her boyfriend told her to after he was just assaulted by him, if he came to the internet with this she would be fucked.
@@luxgh for REAL. And the security dude at the store like what lmao they shoulda ended up on TMZ with Jocelyn freaking out while the weekend is yelling and being forcibly removed from the property. Can we finally acknowledge how many men considered "auteurs" would work better as art directors or directors of cinematography? They can still do all their funky camera angles & leave the storytelling to ppl better equipped to tell coherent, compelling stories. Also the weeknd overhauling the entire show to give himself more screentime is DIVA behavior, plain & simple.
Yes! I was thinking this but couldn't remember the actual name of the role. Being able to create pleasing aesthetics is a talent but that doesn't mean you're also a competent storyteller.
The Star Wars trilogy is the prime example of this. JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson are decent to good cinematographers but they cannot write good stories to save their lives. The only thing they can contribute to the writing room is "cool" ideas that are usually left on the cutting room floor for a reason.
@@grandempressvicky6387they both can though, people just didn't like the direction they went with star wars, both knives out and Cloverfield were a lot better and also well received
“This feels like short man shit” I’m coming back to let everyone know that according to the internet, Sam Levinson is 5’3 while The Weeknd is 5’8 (personally not short but 1in below the average for men). So she hit the nail on the head. Edit: I was wrong, Sam’s is actually 5’11. Idk why some sites say otherwise, but I admit when I’m incorrect. Carry on.
I think he's 5'11 considering in some of the photos I've seen with him standing next to zendaya (who is 5'10) they are about the same height when she's wearing a tall heels
I literally predicted from the first episode debut that Levinson would go that route. It's such an easy, lazy thing to write as the resolution it would be perfect for a sexually charged teen drama-level show like this.
There was this show with Megan Goode a few years ago, and it was awful. However this guy did recaps, and they were amazing!!! I quit watching the show and just read the recaps the next day. I genuinely didn’t want the show cancelled because I loved those recaps so much.
Episode 5's reveal of Tedros's "evil plan" is hilarious. Having sex with a woman, then coming across her friend at some club to hook up? That isn't an evil plan.
I’ve got a feeling the “carte blanche” was their attempt at recreating the “Versace” moment in showgirls which is honestly worse than him thinking that’s how it’s pronounced 😬
There was clearly a good show buried under here. Lily Rose Depp is actually a good actress and the music video scene is so beautifully heartbreaking and I wish we could have gotten the original directors actual vision of the show
@@ambriaashley3383 To think it came out, got backlash, and then season two happened and the comments section flooded with “This aged well” because Levinson’s mask slipped 😆
The way that the Weekend and Levinson could take the show over from a female director proves the point that women are exploited and marginalised in the entertainment industry.
I do wonder how the actual on set intimacy coordinator felt on set while watching a scene in which a fictional intimacy coordinator was demeaned, made fun of and then locked in the bathroom like it’s a looney tunes cartoon all for the “crime” doing their job. I’d have avoided bathroom for the rest of the day on set in case Sam wanted to try that egg shit
This is written like fanfiction, like those dark romance porn fics on wattpad, like the timeline being crazy (everything happens in a week) the being sexual in public because "everyone's looking at them" etc. Sadly it's not so bad it's funny
I feel like I now know way too much about both the insecurities and personal kinks of Sam Levinson & The Weeknd. They really could have just gone to a bdsm club and/or therapy and never shared these feelings with the world and I think we would all have been better for it.
One day someone will make a “tell all” about Sam Levinson and we will all point to Euphoria and The Idol and say “yep, we all knew he was weird all along”
The weekend does just tell like disconnected stories about being awful to oneself and to women but he always did it in under 5 mins in a sing songy voice, so he got away with it as maybe being an actual satire of fame,,,,, but him showing his face like this in something that should be genuinely descriptive, well, it also shows his ass, doesnt it
He’s always been awful??? He is talented as in he can sing and make music but his lyrics were already about being a terrible misogynistic man??? Like???? This comes as absolutely no surprise to me.
I agree with the others. He’s always been horrible and passes his shit off like it’s edgy and never been seen before. “I did a line of coke and used you” literally the plot of the 80s.
I just want to put in my certified hater two cents, and add that this show is a direct result from y'all adoring Euphoria and for forgiving it's absolutely disgusting involvement of sexualized teenagers played by 25 year olds, because it has Zendaya and pretty makeup.
Euphoria season 1 was very good tv imo with super interesting characters. Season 2 was mostly a pretentious incoherent mess with 1 stellar episode. I think he depicts drug addiction in a very accurate and interesting way. The idol was the worst show I've ever watched tho.
I can’t be convinced that Sam isn’t just directing his own biggest kinks on screen with his favorite pieces of eye candy (Sydney Sweeny & now Lily Rose Depp). Everything he makes certain women deal with in his shows is just so seggsual even down to the most traumatic things. It’s like he’s purposely sending a message to younger women that it’s normal and okay to want men to treat you like a Tedros or a Nate because of how “sexy” he makes it look on screen.
I remember reading a tweet about this. Apparently, Sam has an issue with intensely sexualizing women in his shows who closely resemble his mother. Which is just gross, but also, somehow not shocking.
Oh. My. God. Have you seen the woman he dated who pLAYED HIS MOM IN ONE OF HIS PRODUCTIONS?!?! Every day men prove Freud right and every day women suffer for it 🤮🤧😭😭😭
I mean euphoria is all about highschool tho so thats expected. The issue is more so that chole being underage does nothing for the story. Ahe could have been 18/24/28 etc and it still play out the same.
It’s actually funny that Diane is like “outdancing” everyone else because if you’re in a company or in a group you have to match their skill. Everyone has to be the same so that they aren’t drawing attention away from the main event. The fact they picked diane out for that is strange because she SHOULDNT be doing that, it’s kind of a mark of an unprofessional dancer. Idk man as a dancer that’s just weird to me

I hate how this show somewhat implies that Jocelyn being into BDSM is like a side-effect of her being abused as a child. When that scene happened in episode three I was so disgusted
@sari9645 I think the issue is implying that's the only reason why anyone would be into it but I agree it often can be a mechanism, but I think many bdsm ppl seek to do it in a healthy vs further perpetuating trauma
As someone that enjoy BDSM... That isn't BDSM. That's what misogynists want women to think that BDSM is. Someone that doesn't really respect you, your boundaries, your traumas. Yes, some of the people that are in the BDSM community have traumas, but that's not what turn someone to be into BDSM. Actually, people that goes through shit like that tends to like the dominant role more (that can be a bias, but that's just my experience on the field). And I love to see people feel more powerful in a safe environment, with someone that they can trust and in their own terms. It's all what Jocelyn didn't had. I'd love her really gaining power against this mf, but I'd love more if this mf didn't exist.
Leia was a good character. She deserved better. It was really weird how abusive everyone was towards her and how Destiny and Chaim gaslit her about Tedros. Made no sense.
She was so real for quitting. I understand why people like Chaim and Destiny, but them mfs were so fucking cruel to her !!! “Braindead bitch” SHES TRYING HER BEST????
Ok, I think I get it. The show is a mess bcs it's not simply from the typical male perspective (which is usually a bit delusional), but from the actual, certifiable, diagnosable, delusional male perspective. The Idol is how certain abusive men view the timeline of their relationships that have gone bad. They see themselves as helping a weak and lost woman, providing guidance and sanctuary, putting her life back in order; only to find out they had been decived the entire time! The woman played them for the money (that they never have) and connections (that are shit) and destroyed their lives after they so painstakingly put them back together after a series of unfortunate events (that are usually of their own making). The Idol is the mind of an abuser that 1) hates women and 2) believes they're a decent human being.
For a man is there any other personality or are you either a delusional cuck robot or an abusive man? Can we be allowed to be more than just those two labels?
Todd in the Shadows once said, “The only thing sadder than being Showgirls is failing to be Showgirls.” This show seems confused, demented and just overall mishandled.
I just thought of something…what if “car-tae blahn-chae” was Levinson’s failed attempt at a “Ver-sayce” moment? When Nomi mispronounces Versace the first time, the people she was talking to just kind of nodded and went along with it. It’s an important part of the humor, as everyone knows she’s saying it wrong but nobody corrects her. The second time she does it, Zack corrects her, which shows he has a level of education/experience Nomi doesn’t. It’s not only funny, but it sets the stage for why she’s so easily manipulated by him. Showgirls, as shitty as it is, has so many small moments of brilliance like this. If Tedros was actually someone who was meant to be seen as a loser, at least one person would have corrected him even behind his back. I’m guessing nobody does because he’s supposed to be dangerous and nobody wants to cross him, which is entirely the wrong way to play it imo. It’s not convincing and it just doesn’t work for all the reasons listed. Levinson wants to be Verhoeven so badly it hurts but he just fundamentally does not understand why Verhoeven is so iconic even in colossal failure. He just sees titties and sparkly eye makeup.
my conspiracy theory is that dyanne's character was supposed to have a bigger role as the rival in the original version of the show (not much bigger since it's still jennie's first acting role, but big enough to actually explore her plot line), but they took so long reworking the show that jennie wasn't as available for filming anymore because she was busy with blackpink who were inactive in 2021 during the originally planned production but preparing for an album release in spring/summer 2022 during the reshoots, and her role got cut down instead of recast because they still wanted the kpop stan hype. and it could also be why her character was so unceremoniously dropped, since if they wanted to make a season 2 they couldnt count on her being free to film again. or maybe im just giving mr sammy levingston too much credit and he thought writing her that way was good 💀
@@Mku-JJ1ifit's probably a combination of the two reasons. After the script got changed, who would want to be part of this weird show? But also, she was getting busier and busier, so she walked outta the show both metaphorically through that scene in the episode and literally.
yeah that was one of my biggest gripes with the show, what they had set up could have led to some really interesting story lines but they just didn't for some reason
its not lost on me that the one work by Levinson that was critically acclaimed was based on another show made by other creatives. it says a lot that euphoria immediately devolved into sex and shallow drama when it didn't have previous material to draw on.
Because it was Amy Seimetz's directorial debut she was probably steamrolled by "MAX" and did what she could with what she had until she clearly saw no merit in fighting people who didn't get what she was hired for. Sam Levinson takes over and it's suddenly a blank check and carte blanche (even if The Weekend can't pronounce it) because clearly no one was reigning him in.
Considering it was supposed to be 6 episodes and Sam Levinson was able to fit his non-story into 5, there's definitely not enough there to carry another season. Also, the reason why people were so confused during Jocelyn's final speech was because they filmed that at a real Weeknd concert without informing the crowd that's what they were gonna do.
The intimacy contract issue makes no sense. I feel like Jocelyn would have put full nudity in the contract and I'm sure her team would have backed her, seeing that they think sex sells. That's how it works in the acting /modeling world unless it's different in music, but it really seems like a made up issue for "plot."
also glad you got the video up Kennie!!! Making my Sunday - and saving me from watching the show lol. I didn't make it past ep 1. Which is ashamed - I think Lily Rose Depp has a lot of potential.

I'm glad people have realised that he's not making art, he's making weird p0rn content with sometimes teenage characters and it's fvcked up. just because it's not inherently illegal doesn't mean it's moral.

The fact that they revealed Chloe to be underage, RIGHT after showing her naked, just made me sick to my stomach.
The fact that it adds literally NOTHING to the story. She could have been 18 or early 20s and it would have made no meaningful difference EXCEPT that weirdos wouldn't be able to get off to the idea of a naked minor.....

Thank you!! I feel disgusted by it because although the actor is of age this is sick. The reveal was so unexpected and heartbreaking that they chose to add this, it had ZEROO importance to the storyline

@@ettaetta439 Perfect assessment
Because they have a mentality problem
I guess Hollywood didn't mean any of their lip service towards the #metoo movement

Also because lily is Johnny depps daughter, people kept bringing up Amber Heard, especially after that finale ‘twist.’ Wouldn’t surprise me if that was supposed to be some hamfisted reference to that situation.
jocelyn being a manipulative villain all along would have actually been interesting if the show overall was much better, both in script and execution. but because of how the show is, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and just comes across as villifying the woman to justify the man's wrongs and everything he did to her. like wow, just when i thought this show cannot possibly hit a new misogynistic low, it goes even lower. it's astounding.
there's also the whole framing rob thing which is kinda iffy for me because it feels a lot like it contributes towards this negative perception of women who report sexual harassment against them in conservative circles and how they "lie" and it's just a whole misogynistic cherry on top of the misogynistic pie.
yeah its like they want us to sympathize wtih Tedros at the end and i am like NO
Agreed, the "Joss was behind it all along" arc could have worked if this had been literally any other show.

Like I think they were trying to get the idea across of like “oh he’s crazy, he’d probably kill someone, and these people are picking up on that” and like nah it’s fucking LA, and that’s the least intimidating man I’ve ever seen
There are plenty of people who look harmless but are intimidating etc...
@@CherryBlossomBlyue yeah but that’s not what this is. This is someone trying way too hard to be intimidating in a way that seems super unnatural so it reads like false bravado. Which ends up being canon to the plot anyways because they try to last second paint him as a sad mew mew.
I kinda expected the nutritionist to knock him out, it would actually give Jocelyn a reason to fire him instead of the "fire him because I want to >:-("

Kennie all day! ❤🎉 It’s the witty humor combined with intricate analysis for me. ☺️
Yep lol the only way
@@Oonagh72a show called what?
Yep!
Episode 5's reveal of Tedros's "evil plan" is hilarious. Having sex with a woman, then coming across her friend at some club to hook up? That isn't an evil plan.
Isn’t that just called “meeting people”? The Idol is so brain dead
I’ve got a feeling the “carte blanche” was their attempt at recreating the “Versace” moment in showgirls which is honestly worse than him thinking that’s how it’s pronounced 😬
omg I thought the same thing!
I thought the same, that or to show he’s not as smart as he’s trying to present himself to be!
Ironically I don't think his character would know how to pronounce Versace either
There was clearly a good show buried under here. Lily Rose Depp is actually a good actress and the music video scene is so beautifully heartbreaking and I wish we could have gotten the original directors actual vision of the show
Jordan peele was in his bag when he brought up the spectacle and exploitation narrative in “Nope.” And I stand by that
Yes yes yes
PERFECT
EXACTLYYYY
that movie was slayage
Omg you are so right! Humans love exploitation, consumerism, and spectacle 💅🏽
Kennie’s Euphoria video was 3 years ago?? 😮 Time flies as a home skillet biscuit 💅
For real. When she said that I was like 😧
An iconic and forward-thinking video that stood the test of time 🤌🏾🤌🏾❤
@@ambriaashley3383 To think it came out, got backlash, and then season two happened and the comments section flooded with “This aged well” because Levinson’s mask slipped 😆
I thought the same thing!
Right! I was shocked it's been 3 years!
This is inspiring because there's literally NO way I can make something worse. Like Sam and weekday put so much effort in to making garbage.
weekday💀💀
@@loveydovey3631😭
I believe you mean weekdy.
The difference is that one costs millions to make.
@@fuzzydays5699 yeah at least wattpad porn is mostly free
I thought the same thing- it’s like a fanfic that went off the rails
True, but I’ve read some fanfics that are far more developed than this. At least they know what they’re trying to say, if anything. Lol
I feel like I now know way too much about both the insecurities and personal kinks of Sam Levinson & The Weeknd. They really could have just gone to a bdsm club and/or therapy and never shared these feelings with the world and I think we would all have been better for it.
The people in those clubs don't want them there 😭
Yeah, bdsm clubs care about safe and sane kink. I'm not sure these two know what that is
One day someone will make a “tell all” about Sam Levinson and we will all point to Euphoria and The Idol and say “yep, we all knew he was weird all along”
The Weeknd is an example that you can be talented in one aspect, but not all aspects..
The weekend does just tell like disconnected stories about being awful to oneself and to women but he always did it in under 5 mins in a sing songy voice, so he got away with it as maybe being an actual satire of fame,,,,, but him showing his face like this in something that should be genuinely descriptive, well, it also shows his ass, doesnt it
Yea, he is horrible actor. He could deliver in music and lyric, but not in acting field.
I just want to put in my certified hater two cents, and add that this show is a direct result from y'all adoring Euphoria and for forgiving it's absolutely disgusting involvement of sexualized teenagers played by 25 year olds, because it has Zendaya and pretty makeup.
i feel like the audience is a lot of young ppl tho so u can't fault them for not realizing how exploitative it is of themselves
Euphoria season 1 was very good tv imo with super interesting characters. Season 2 was mostly a pretentious incoherent mess with 1 stellar episode. I think he depicts drug addiction in a very accurate and interesting way.
The idol was the worst show I've ever watched tho.
i've never seen an adult over the age of 25 saying it was good and they enjoyed watching it (if they watched it at all)
I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and watched a few episodes. I immediately got the ick after 15 minutes.
Thank you!!! The weekend was right, the general public has no brain of their own. They loved Euphoria but no...THIS is where y’all draw the line?
“He’s so rapey”
“Yeah I kinda like that about him”
Let’s just all take a moment to remember that it was a man writing those lines.
I seriously did a Tyrion Lannister vomit the moment I heard that....
@goldyd144 aaahhhh aaahhhh aaahhhh. Now I'm afraid to Google his mother 😢😢😢
@@goldyd144I just googled it. Thank you - I'm dry heaving now 🤢
Oh. My. God. Have you seen the woman he dated who pLAYED HIS MOM IN ONE OF HIS PRODUCTIONS?!?! Every day men prove Freud right and every day women suffer for it 🤮🤧😭😭😭
idk why y'all are surprised about the constantly naked chloe being underage, that's the entirety of euphoria lmao
I mean euphoria is all about highschool tho so thats expected. The issue is more so that chole being underage does nothing for the story. Ahe could have been 18/24/28 etc and it still play out the same.
@@holysex1052 They don't have to be naked though which is the point.
Idk man as a dancer that’s just weird to me
@@asteridshydrangea-jt2hf no no as a writer as well I totally get that 😂 sometimes I wonder if I’m analyzing or if I’m reading way into something that doesn’t deserve it.
I demand to see the "too female centered" version
Same!!!!!!!
That Epstein line dropped my jaw so hard. WHATTT?? The Fuck??? There is nothing okay about writing that. SL is foul and I refuse to ever give any of his shows a view ever. Thanks for taking one for the team and for your excellent commentary.
The dialogues were a complete a diarrhea. This show was the representation of a nepo baby ego.
absolutely disgusting. hollywood is absolutely evil and wicked so it doesn’t surprise me. these people are all trashy especially abel and sam. they need to be searched.

i still watch these idol reaction and commentary videos lmfao the idol was such a fever dream and waking up everyday finding my fav youtubers slamming it left right was enough for me to be fed full of content for a whole 2 months
Yeah plus this will be a inevitable stain on Sam Levinson's career
I hate how this show somewhat implies that Jocelyn being into BDSM is like a side-effect of her being abused as a child. When that scene happened in episode three I was so disgusted
I mean… not to defend this show in any way but lots of kinks/fetishs are a direct results of trauma, especially childhood trauma
I don't even bother watching shows anymore, your reviews are infinitely more entertaining
Leia was a good character. She deserved better. It was really weird how abusive everyone was towards her and how Destiny and Chaim gaslit her about Tedros. Made no sense.
Right!? And Jocelyn laughed when Tedros screamed at her. Hell no
@@Sam-0827 exactly!
She was so real for quitting. I understand why people like Chaim and Destiny, but them mfs were so fucking cruel to her !!! “Braindead bitch” SHES TRYING HER BEST????

This show romanticizes toxic relationships. It’s disgusting.
A Sam and Abel story....."the man deep inside of us" 🚩 🚩 🚩
For a man is there any other personality or are you either a delusional cuck robot or an abusive man? Can we be allowed to be more than just those two labels?
Where do you find such men?
I don’t understand why the Weeknd needed to make this show just so he could wear a lace front like sir just tell wardrobe you want a ponytail
Yeah the abused kid being the REAL villain is not a twist, it’s a fucked-up thing to say.
Todd in the Shadows once said, “The only thing sadder than being Showgirls is failing to be Showgirls.”
This show seems confused, demented and just overall mishandled.
He just sees titties and sparkly eye makeup.
my conspiracy theory is that dyanne's character was supposed to have a bigger role as the rival in the original version of the show (not much bigger since it's still jennie's first acting role, but big enough to actually explore her plot line), but they took so long reworking the show that jennie wasn't as available for filming anymore because she was busy with blackpink who were inactive in 2021 during the originally planned production but preparing for an album release in spring/summer 2022 during the reshoots, and her role got cut down instead of recast because they still wanted the kpop stan hype. and it could also be why her character was so unceremoniously dropped, since if they wanted to make a season 2 they couldnt count on her being free to film again. or maybe im just giving mr sammy levingston too much credit and he thought writing her that way was good 💀
It's not that. She signed after the script got changed her part was never meant to be big. She was always supposed to be there for hype
@@Mku-JJ1ifit's probably a combination of the two reasons. After the script got changed, who would want to be part of this weird show? But also, she was getting busier and busier, so she walked outta the show both metaphorically through that scene in the episode and literally.
the most shocking thing to come out of this is that i found out sam levinson somehow has a wife

When kennie started ranting about the unfinished storylines, I was like maybe it's better if she never watches euphoria 😂
yeah that was one of my biggest gripes with the show, what they had set up could have led to some really interesting story lines but they just didn't for some reason
I've been loving Idol breakdowns lately. Outside of D'Angelo Wallace making fun of The Weekend's hair, this was my favorite one.
its not lost on me that the one work by Levinson that was critically acclaimed was based on another show made by other creatives. it says a lot that euphoria immediately devolved into sex and shallow drama when it didn't have previous material to draw on.
Hopefully zendaya adds something
Exactly ppl don't realize euphoria is remake
Yes, a lot.of people forget/don't know that Euphoria is based on an Israeli show of the same name.
1:12:35 *"Girl, you got two episodes to make that make sense. Because it don't."*
Couldn't have said it better myself. 😂👏👏
Really? Wtf
I’m starting to think Abel isn’t playing a predatory misogynistic character anymore. It doesn’t feel like he’s playing the character as a critique, it feels like he’s trying to make his weird character sympathetic?
