this is my new comfort movie. i must have seen it over 10 times already and tomorrow night i'm watching it again with loved ones because i'm so excited to share it with them too lol it's goofy and fun and light-hearted and feels in the same vein as how to lose a guy in 10 days. it just makes you happy! i always smile when i watch it, and i still tear up at the serious bits. a lot of it was done really well with so much love and care in certain scenes. i truly went into it thinking it'd be like "the kissing booth" or "after" and was so surprised.
also i want to say when i was in college back in 2012 we were taught in poly sci that the dems would win texas in the next 20+ years. it was projected and there was a lot of data about it. especially with austin and houson. back then, houston had a gay mayor. austin is austin. and so many things looked so promising for the direction of our state in so many ways. then....Things(TM) happened and with the tea party and then the orange, etc. that changed the trajectory. but texas turning blue isn't just fiction. it's something texas democrats pray and hope for and work very, very hard for. we're just fighting against some very loud voices :(

I don't think Red, White and Royal Blue is dumb, any more than countless other movies of the same genre out there are. It's a romantic comedy, so it can be cheesy at times, but I don't think that makes it dumb. It's a beautiful love story between two queer men with a happy ending. It also deals with some heavy topics, like what it means to be a queer person in a position of power, and how horrible it is to be outed without your consent, especially being a public figure. I love this movie, including the things people criticize it for, like its pacing, and the fact it had to leave things out from the book. It's an adaptation, and even though I haven't read the book, I think it's done a wonderful job of showing Alex and Henry's love story.

The fact that we get the brunt of the “yeehaw conservative” stereotypes when I know so many people (entire organizations of people) fighting for things to be better is annoying, to say the least. It would be very much a swing state if not for the (as the video mentioned) gerrymandering and voter suppression 🤩
The fact that Uma and nicholas were mother and son in another TV series before this. I loved seeing them on screen again even thought their characters in this didn't interact

This movie has quickly risen to the top of my list of comfort movies of all time. Like, yes, it can be cheesy and kind of lifetime-y, but it just scratched my brain the right amount. I gasped so many times at the tropes (*gasp* he fell first, shoved into a closet, and the ever-so-popular enemies to friends to lovers narrative) because it was sooo much fun.
@@kaeyasl1tlol it’s commercials have been out for months, and I know this because I’ve seen them and thought “I can’t wait for a bad movies and a beat on this”
It was basic but just clever and sweet enough to be a decent watch. And it was refreshing to see a “gay movie” that got promotion which wasn’t tragic, Oscar-bait-y, centered around coming out/confronting your queerness, centered around extramarital affairs. It still felt mostly targeted to women, but it was refreshing.
I always wonder what kind of gay media would be considered to have a target audience that includes men. My experience from pre-2021 queer media spaces tells me so long as it isn’t an erotica featuring bears and muscle gays, a certain group of people will call it “targeted towards [straight] women.” So these days, when there’s a lack of those heterocentric tropes, I can’t help but feel like every time I see this sort of comment, it’s from that small group who forgets there’s a larger group of gay men okay with being portrayed as being diverse and having feelings, and also a plot driven by something other than sex. 🤔 There’s also a shit ton of gay men who love cute gay stories.
@@InvisibleRenI think heartstopper is a good example of a show that people might accuse of being directed at straight women, but it's supposed to be for lgbtq+ teens and adults in general
@@InvisibleRenI think it’s a generational thing too, like how Trixie and Katya talk about and are almost uncomfortable with Heartstopper. A lot of queer people in their 30s and older are genuinely not used to sappy queer media that seems to create an alternate universe where almost everyone is supportive and that isn’t centered around tragedy or treated like a joke
@@InvisibleRen Where did I mention something being sex focused? If anything, I’m tired of “queer stories” that’s mostly driven by sex. By “targeted towards women” I mostly mean “straight passing” performances, set in a mostly hetero-centric world, the queer characters lack much edge or personality, there tends to be focus on “coming out” or coming to terms with your queerness, but there also tends to be a lack of dialogue about queerness or the gender, sexual, affection, romantic, emotion, commitment spectrum. Then you have the “queer Oscar bait”, which is mostly tragic, distraught, filtering queerness through hetero dynamics. The majority of “queer/gay movies” which Hollywood puts any real effort into promoting still tend to fit into those two categories.

The book this movie was adapted from got me out of a slump during the pandemic so I’m so glad the reception to it has been positive for the most part, it’s such a good story imo
OMG same! It's now one of my go-to re-reads when I'm in a slump, never fails!
i literally just finished reading it like a month ago and the book HAD ME CRYING AT WORK LIKE WTF?! HAD ME ACTING LIKE A CRAZY PERSON IN PUBLIC 😭🤧
The fact they had Stephen Fry play a homophobic King is so funny
this is my new comfort movie. i must have seen it over 10 times already and tomorrow night i'm watching it again with loved ones because i'm so excited to share it with them too lol it's goofy and fun and light-hearted and feels in the same vein as how to lose a guy in 10 days. it just makes you happy! i always smile when i watch it, and i still tear up at the serious bits. a lot of it was done really well with so much love and care in certain scenes. i truly went into it thinking it'd be like "the kissing booth" or "after" and was so surprised.
also i want to say when i was in college back in 2012 we were taught in poly sci that the dems would win texas in the next 20+ years. it was projected and there was a lot of data about it. especially with austin and houson. back then, houston had a gay mayor. austin is austin. and so many things looked so promising for the direction of our state in so many ways. then....Things(TM) happened and with the tea party and then the orange, etc. that changed the trajectory. but texas turning blue isn't just fiction. it's something texas democrats pray and hope for and work very, very hard for. we're just fighting against some very loud voices :(
same 🥹 this is one of my comfort movies whenever college gets too much for me i re-watch it 😭
This movie makes me feel like To All The Boys I've Loved Before made me feel. Very warm and giddy.
This is my the Idol/365 days, it triggers me in ways so rich and unimaginable I stopped it after 20 minutes lmfao. I'm glad other people like it though I don't think it's bad per se, just not for me, extremely so
Ditto, again and again. I now know many of the important lines too, and the way they are said, and still bring forth happy tears in just thinking about the scenes.
Going from Im so alone to men are so annoying is so real
You saying “And all time stands still, while everyone drops ass at that moment” had me cackling lmao 😂😂😂😂
14:44 it’s the duality for me
“It’s so cute… I’m so alone”
The movie makes you feel like you need someone in your life even when you’re not wanting to date anyone
I literally had to stop the movie and call a friend to vent at how sexually frustrated I was. like damn maybe i do want a man for a sec.
@@christicat221b right? I’m like not even into dating that much and I was like I need this in my life. Whatever this is universe, please give it to me too
I literally went back on Bumble after watching this movie😂
Man wow this statement hit too close 😅. I've been single for about 2 years now and I'm truly happy. HOWEVER I've learned now in my 30s, a relationship has to bring that same happiness and comfort that's worth giving up being single.
@@ptboy18 so true. Like I don’t want a relationship for it’s own sake. I want a partner who adds richness and happiness in my life. Cause I’m pretty happy single.
You’re right, someone worth the trade off.
Amazon Prime needs more movies like this.
They’d make SO. MUCH. MONEY. if only they weren’t cowards, lol
@@DearxMyxSongs Yea, I would actually support them, but they are nothing but another Netflix
I appreciate the Blexus fantasy. As someone who lives here, it’s genuinely infuriating how much of the state isn’t right leaning. The fact that we get the brunt of the “yeehaw conservative” stereotypes when I know so many people (entire organizations of people) fighting for things to be better is annoying, to say the least. It would be very much a swing state if not for the (as the video mentioned) gerrymandering and voter suppression 🤩
Ended up watching the movie and pausing on the Blexus election map just to see what it would be like
Iowa used to be a swing state and now we can't crawl ourselves out of the red hellhole so I believe in Texas. Y'all can do it.
EXACTLY like please we’re trying so hard😭😭😭
@@ChameleonradioI've seen people insulted that Minnesota got pictured as red state in that map 😅 "we'll secede first than vote republican!" 😅😂
"and he was like 'I'll break the sound barrier for youuUu' WHERES MY Q-TIP" 💀💀💀
If you think the movie is cute you should read the book, it amplifies everything good about this movie by A MILLION
Ooooh I am definitely about to cop the book then cause the movie had me kicking my feet, giggling and cheesing mad hard 😭
No fr the movie cut out like 75% of what the book had but i still loved it in the end for what it was
@@peculiarissues3784they had a reason lol but i agree 😭
The fact that Uma and nicholas were mother and son in another TV series before this. I loved seeing them on screen again even thought their characters in this didn't interact
Okay I'm sorry but at 14:53 when kennie says "henry just leaves him there speechless and walks off saying-" it cut into an ad for the jonas brothers concert which starts with them singing "I'm a sucker for you" I DIED LOL
I used to work at the author's local bookstore and they would come in to sign copies all the time! Super nice and supportive of indie bookstores.
Okay
But can we all appreciate the magnificence of "The sun shines out of his ass and you have a vitamin D deficiency"? 😂
This movie was SO cute, and it hit me in the heart several times. I went "awww" and "don't you hurt him" so much! Also, the reporter villain was perfect and I loved hating him 😂
This movie has quickly risen to the top of my list of comfort movies of all time.
I was squealing and kicking my feet the whole time. The book is incredible so I'm so glad the movie was wonderful
14:42 I think this is the first time we’ve ever seen Kennie get excited about a non-atmospheric non-con kiss. 😅 I’m not mad; it was just surprising.
Kennie getting so emotional over two disaster queers made me emotional and cry also 😭
i’ve been wanting kennie to review this for months and i’m SO glad she did
Monthsssss?
It's been less than 3 weeks since it was out lol?
What do you mean months?? The movie has been out for less than 3 weeks 😭
@@kaeyasl1tlol it’s commercials have been out for months, and I know this because I’ve seen them and thought “I can’t wait for a bad movies and a beat on this”
SAME
I don't know what's cuter, those two actors or kennie getting so into the movie
IT WAS SOOOO GOOD. it didnt take itself seriously but yet it made me feel so seen and have hope in humanity!! So cute TT
The “he grabbed my hair in a way that made me understand the difference between rugby and football” is soooo funny
I love her constant fan girl screams its very relatable
It was basic but just clever and sweet enough to be a decent watch. And it was refreshing to see a “gay movie” that got promotion which wasn’t tragic, Oscar-bait-y, centered around coming out/confronting your queerness, centered around extramarital affairs. It still felt mostly targeted to women, but it was refreshing.
I always wonder what kind of gay media would be considered to have a target audience that includes men. My experience from pre-2021 queer media spaces tells me so long as it isn’t an erotica featuring bears and muscle gays, a certain group of people will call it “targeted towards [straight] women.” So these days, when there’s a lack of those heterocentric tropes, I can’t help but feel like every time
I see this sort of comment, it’s from that small group who forgets there’s a larger group of gay men okay with being portrayed as being diverse and having feelings, and also a plot driven by something other than sex. 🤔 There’s also a shit ton of gay men who love cute gay stories.
@@InvisibleReni loved love victor as a gay teen
After watching the movie it has turned into a new comfort movie for me. I’m glad you liked it and I’m honestly so deprived too. You’re not alone girl 😭
sameee
So this movie just hit all of us in all the feels, no matter how cynical and critical we are. I'm only upset about a couple of omissions from the book, which had nothing to do with time. But otherwise, the actors were INCREDIBLE.
I saw the title and thought you were going to hate it but knowing you think it’s good makes me feel so validated cause this is now my new comfort movie
Kennie screamed and my cat came over to the tablet to check she was ok ❤
Also- GOOD MARKETING WITH YOUR MUSIC AT THE END. We stan a multi-talented queen.
5:59 honestly yes. both this and heartstopper season 2. GOT ME FEELING AGGRESSIVELY LONELY.
I was about to sob with dismay when I saw the title of the video...and then I got to "I wanted it to be bad" 😂
As someone who lives in Texas...WE LOVE A DREAM, BABY!!!
I love having more bi representation!! This movie is so cute, oml
I try to avoid love stories such as these because they reinforce how lonely I feel/am. Such a beautiful reaction to an equally beautiful film. x
For someone who read the book before watching the movie, the decision to exclude June was CRIMINAL. This would have been way more awesome if it was a series 😭
Not Kennie crying and throwing up!! I felt that!❤😭
Kennie, all I’m gonna say is if you want something to read, get the book (especially the collector’s edition, I heard that one has an extra chapter), it’s a bit different from the movie, but both are great on their own!
NOT THE LUCIFER REFERENCE 😂
Girl I needed this today! Thank you so much!
What was the reference?
@@LS-fb3foin the beginning when she’s describing her hair, she speaks Korean and there’s a music video in the background. That’s Lucifer by SHINee.
The woman with the bisexual half Mexican son flipped Texas 😂😂😂
Miguel is the villain name of 2023 films istg. All of your emotions lmao that was me watching this. I loved this movie more than expected. I loved it more than the book which is very rare for me. We need another movie with these two in love ASAP!
They got this casting so perfect and it made this movie like 10x better. This movie is so cute and I'm obsessed.
the way kennie was crying and looking for qtips and i was crying just reveling in the sweetness of this movie and then cry laughing at the qtips
I love this woman 😂❤
She re-tells a story like no other 😅
So many of Kennie's Good Movies and a Glam videos have some of the darkest themes that seeing her so excited over something so sweet is a little jarring 😂 But I like it 💕💕
I felt that "I'm so alone" bit in my soul
Me and my friends always talk about we couldn't be actors because we'd fall in love with EVERY costar. I feel you on, how do you NOT catch feelings when making these types of movies or filming these scenes?? For me afterwards, we go together REAL BAD!LOL
I know intimacy coordinators talk to you before and handle that part as well, in order to set the right mindset etc. That said, I'm sure I would nod like Alex did with Miguel talking about the Texas memo, get on set and fall in love, just to come back home and say to the mirror "It's fine, you're not in love, you're just horny". Then I'd keep pining for an insane amount of time, possibly endlessly. I don't know how those two moved on tbh
Nicholas is such a great actor. I wish he would pick better projects to work on because he really deserves more recognition
Why am I crying just hearing Kennie talk about this movie??😭😂
It's the "I'm so alone" like same ಥ‿ಥ
your screaming retelling of their argument in the castle is everything 😭
Through the whole movie I’d scream in joy but also in “OH GOD IM SO LONELY AND TOUCH STARVED” 😭😭😭
11:52 KENNIE! As a life-long British person, that London accent actually had me look up from my homework lol, honestly spot on :D
I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK WITH THE TITLE
Omg so did I. I will not stand for rw&rb hate. This movie is glorious.
i just moved into my college dorm and a new kennie video is the best thing to cheer me up :)
Ain't that the truth
Good luck in school!
Good luck!
