One of their hardest songs imo. When I listened to it for the first time I did not like it, because me and my untrained ear weren't ready for it. My brain just could not follow what was happening and it became noise. Jinjer and their chaotic time signatures and riffs made me realize how other people feel when they say that about the metal genre. I still struggle a little bit with it, but nowadays I can decently listen to it and I understand that it fits thematically with the lyrics. I had similar issues with Sit Stay Roll Over, which I hated at first, and now it is one of my favorite songs. :) Definitely love them for experimenting and trying out new and unusual stuff.
I also did not like this song when I first heard it. I set it aside and came back a month later, and when I did, it became a song that I listen to a half dozen times a day. Pit of Consciousness is the only song they do that I like more than this. This song, however has to me more punch than any other Jinjer song. The message is chilling and her voice matches it perfectly by going from in your face aggressive to downright haunting. Gives me shivers almost every time.
Ape is difficult to unpack at first. Once you can anticipate the parts it really starts to sink in. At first I did not know what to think and now I can't stop listening to it. My only complaint is that it ends.
This is one of the first songs I heard from Jinjer. I keep going back to it all the time too. After hearing it the first time I was intrigued but not quite sold, but it only took one more song to be completely sold.
Subbed because you have an obvious love for music in general, and the knowledge to talk about it meaningfully. I'm glad you reference the blues and funk influence in metal because blues and jazz are the origin of all rock and metal music.I love what you do and how you do it, keep on keeping on brother!
You deserve more views and likes than anyone on youtube. You know what you are talking about and you are a one-man full entertainment centre. There are some youtubers who just say sit there for the entire video, say they like it and they end up with a pile of views and likes.?????
This song in particular really stands out through the incredible structure, although I'd say that is one of the elements, JINJER is best at in general.
Ape - one of the most wonderful things for me! If their music was chaotic, it wouldn't be so attractive, rhytmically perfect and just beautiful, music is based on maths :) Many people experimenting with chaos became freaks, but those who had managed with - now called genies )
