this track is on my top 5 Jinjer tunes, no matter the mood I am (the dictating factor of which songs make the top list), it has style, it has energy, it is lyrically excellent, instrumentally excellent, and visually amazing.
I absolutely enjoyed your DOUBLE FEATURE REACTION!!! This band is another musical world .................. complex and absolutely brilliant ...................... warm greetings from a german musician
I've gone from being a little bewildered by this song to *loving* it. I consider the 1st half to be heavy jazz, & I think it's pretty funky. My favourite movements are 7, 8 & 5. The simple, slow, heavy riff of 7 is a welcome relief from the chaos of the 1st half, & Tati's soulful, bluesy vocals are beautiful. The brutally heavy, funky groove & brutal vocals of 8 are undeniably powerful. The musical simplification of 5 is the 1st real tension relief in the song, & Tati's angelic tone contributes to the relief & is just a pleasure to hear any time. Ape movements (time references relative to OMV): 1. The Beginning of All Beginnings (begins 0:07). 2. Voracious Ape Who Walks Upright (begins 1:01). 3. He Who Calls Himself Intelligent (begins 1:15). 4. I Made a Mistake When I Created You (begins 1:33). 5. Oh Here You Go (begins 1:43). 6. Blast (begins 2:09). 7. Just the Mention of Your Name (begins 2:22). 8. Bloodthirsty Ape Who Walks Upright (begins 2:52).
Don't worry about repeating a section multiple times. First of all, it's great to see someone really enjoy a transition and try to figure it out. Secondly even though I've heard the song over 100 times, you may catch something minuscule I've not and I'll learn something.
Outside of Teacher Teacher and Pisces which are well known, I play this and Outlander in metal / rock / hip hop DJ sets and they always work as you can mix them in easily (if your audience is the right one!!!)
Their song The Prophecy (which has an OMV) is connected to this song. When talking about it, Eugene calls it an Ape #2. They're both about humanity and what we turn into. They were able to shoot it in Kyiv amid the lockdowns as soon as travel was opened up.
You love this band? Same 😆 I'd become very jaded and was retreating into the music of my far off youth and then I tripped over Jinjer - courtesy of people like you reacting to them
This song took some time to grow on me, I found it too complex and felt overwhelmed by the chaotic first half. But now I really like it, the second half is so rewarding like you mentioned. And I love that live recording, the instruments are a bit muddier than the official but the singing is top.
I have to suggest a song Jinjer doesn't have a video for yet, but you can find several versions (including "with" lyrics) here on UA-cam. "Dead Hands Feel No Pain", it is from their latest album "Wallflowers" and is my current favorite Jinjer song. Upon first listen, my initial thoughts were "Roman is KILLING it on the guitar!"... but as with, pretty much all of their tracks, it takes multiple listens to fully digest any individual song. Roman does indeed do an amazing job in this song, but Eugene's bass and Vlad's drums are JUST as complex. However, rather than jumping forward they support and even push Roman's guitar work to the forefront.
You'll notice that at the end of that note she exhales from her nose. That's a bit of a clue of how she gets those lows. Everything from her nasal cavity on down being used to get that resonance. It could be that the reason her accent comes out more live is because in the studio you do things piecemeal. A verse then record a chorus and so on. She can concentrate on each piece to sound just so in the studio but live has to concentrate on the whole performance and being a badass so filtering out the accent just isn't a thought live.
I like the one-take style but wish there was a way for the cameraman to circle down and around in front on a catwalk in front of the stage. Dmitry Kim who mixed both this and the live in Melbourne series may put bass a bit lower in the mix. I hadn't noticed it here but it's very noticeable in the Melbourne recordings.
not my favorite from jinjer, but i think it might have been too advanced for me... great reaction though... how do you feel about finding what deftones actually are (from adrenaline)?.... i told you, dude, the recommendations have been misleading you
This was the first song Vlad wrote since joining the band. Need I say more? 😉
Some people have a problem with Jinjer’s complexity but not me it’s special and always liked this song from the first listen
My favorite song from them
I remember when I saw them Tatiana had retired that jump suit and it was for sale at their merch table...it was so small.

I'll never miss a live concert if their playing near me , I flew to Cali. twice to see them
Still is my favorite from Jinjer
creativity and musicality of this song are off the charts

i can imagine it hasnt been easy for jinjer lately between covid stopping them touring and now the war.

all their songs are amazing. but ape is my top 1 from them.

The growls taking less stress made more sense to me once I understood it is not a deep guttural growl but a variance on a cookie monster voice.
I would like to see jinger and spiritbox do a song together
lol
