Skip the trendy, expensive fridge. For a pop of color (which is always fun) maybe choose colorful small appliances for the counter or a colorful small dining table/chairs since those are much easier and cheaper to replace. Both of those might look best with a more modern kitchen style.
I have to agree with you there! If I go with muted colours for the big stuff, I'll do what you say and make it pop with a colourful toaster, kettle etc.
My first thought was that you could turn whatever fridge you buy/have into a fun art project. Maybe emulate a certain artist's style. Do you like Banksy's stuff or Shepard Fairey's "OBEY" work? Make your own version of their style, but on your fridge. Or even just Jackson Pollock style with a black or white background base color with splashes of bright paint over it. No matter what, it would be the centerpiece of the room!
I have one thing to say about the garden, or anywhere, if you have stairs, have handrails! You've already fallen on your own stairs even though they do have handrails, but it becomes important to have them as people age, or if they have any kind of mobility problems due to arthritis, injury, etc. And they can be stylish looking. Also, cats will climb over fences and wander. There are fences that don't allow a cat to jump out and also prevent other critters from climbing in. Personally, and because you're in Scotland with dark winters, I'd go for light colors and if you enjoy it, mixing vintage or antique things with modern things - it's a fun mixture.
something about youtubers documenting their home/building progress makes me absolutely feral. i cannot express how much i love that type of content, so i will be eager to see what comes of this project. and i love your inclusion of all those details and sharing the full capacity of the home, it's like you understand exactly what my brain was hoping to see. thank you, keep it up!
@@keagleeagle821 I'm the same. I don't want to see people towing their tiny homes around the world - I want to inspect everything in it! I'm a fan of the quaint, eclectic style. It's all so sleek these days.
Since Scotland’s winters can be quite chilly, I would recommend enclosing your shower fully with glass to keep the steam in and keep you warm while you shower. The open showers look great but just try opening the door or pulling back the curtain when you’re in your shower next time and you’ll very quickly want to close it again!
I think the dark kitchens at the moment are a short-term trend and actually can show up marks more than lighter colours. I see plants in your living room too bringing the garden in. Light kitchens and plants on open dark wood shelves look amazing.
@@cmpc724 wouldn't a white kitchen then be even worse??XD I have a white old kitchen and honestly it looks constantly stainedXD perhaps wooden so you have the textures then you avoid both issues:P
It's a matter of opinion and the size of the kitchen AND the available light in the kitchen. We went with In The Navy (navy blue) by Sherwin Williams and we love it. Everyone that walks in raves over it. And it's not a trend, some kitchens have a dark walnut finish or even black. You have to balance it with the flooring and lighting.
Hi George! Firstly, congratulations on the beautiful home, I am very excited to see how it will turn out and will be following your journey closely. Secondly, I am very grateful for the opportunity to design your kitchen and toilet and look forward to working with you again!
❤ the new place! if you’re located near a car paint shop they should be able to spray any fridge any color you wish for a much cheaper price tag, to get the exact “POP” of color you are looking for in your kitchen.
I get that. I'm slightly more drawn to modern for this kitchen and am hoping with some warm lighting under the cabinets, I could make it cosy. Definitely don't want a cold space!
@@Patchy Scandinavian kitchens are almost always cosy year round, regardless of style. It’s more about candles in winter, the food you cook there, and having a decent dining table to sit around. The latter may not work in this size kitchen-living combo, but even so, it’s the functionality of being able to sit somewhere warm where you can sip tea and eat cookies while you talk for hours.
@@Patchy I think modern can look cosy when it's done in wood, so simple lines and geometric shapes but wood for the cabinets instead of white or black only, the warmth and the texture bring the cosy in. More pricey for good quality though instead of plain color laminate.
I enjoy your projects and videos! My humble input: Traditional kitchen would fit the environs around the house and the window views. Also, though you might think this too matchy-matchy, cabinets that match or blend with your interior doors would create a nice, harmonizing thread throughout your house. (Envision the light wood with some whitewashing in the curves of the wood panels.) Give yourself economical options for pops of color with accessories like chair pads, window treatments, counter top kitchen "stuff", seasonal flowers and plants versus expensive appliances with long life cycles (then you're stuck with the same pop of color).
Hope you all like this one! Any questions or suggestions, just leave a comment. Check out the Fiverr sellers I used in the description as well. Oh... and I forgot to mention in the video, we're putting in new flooring which is why I was wearing shoes inside...! 💃👠
Love the new house! And that garden... ❤️ I'm a big fan of pocket doors and if I had the option (I don't!) I would have them installed throughout the house. It makes such a difference to what you can do in a room because you don't have to take into account the door opening into the room. I actually like the kitchen doors you have and regret choosing a creamy white colour because it shows its age more quickly - wear and tear is harder to disguise. Personally I would keep the bedroom cupboard - many women dream of a walk in wardrobe (or closet as they say across the pond! Can't wait to go on the journey with you! 🏠🏴
I put heated floor panel in my bathroom renovation. Love it in winter. It wasn't expensive. The only problem was cracked ceramic tile in unheated threshold between heated and cold laundry area. It should have had a transition piece.
Cheers Brian! Yeah I've used Fiverr a few times in the past for logos/graphic design work but never anything like this. Well worth a shot if you're looking to rearrange or renovate your house!
I'd go for modern and minimal like your last house. You can make it cozy by adding wooden features and textures throughout the house in a nice natural colour palette. I'm excited to see how you will change the space, I'm sure it will look awesome! 🙂
this place has so much potential! definitely would stick to mid-century modern in general. and no smeg for the kitchen. aaand.. really like that Junior is helping you
Big yes to the secret/invisible wardrobe (my Narnia obsession is speaking)! Love all the ideas and can't wait to see what you do with the new house. I think big windows, light colours and ventilation are great starting points for an open and welcoming home. I hope the cats get a say in the final touches as well (little tunnels/towers/cat garden...)🐈⬛🪴🏠
I’m happy to see the roof line in the kitchen rendering is in tact. Keeps costs down by keeping the original roof and adding skylights/roof windows for added light. Brilliant idea. Love the new rendering fir kitchen/family room.
I love you sensibility both with home design and with video production. Your calm demeanor definitely shines! All the styles look nice to me, but I'm especially loving the sky lights. I'm considering adding one to my home - they are such a great way to get extra light in.
I would go light and traditional for the kitchen. I like your plans for the bedrooms and absolutely love the plans for the garden. Looking forward to watching this renovation. 😊
the jokes, man :D get me every time :D really excited for the transformation! it's cool you can use your past experience and film it from the beginning :) love the way you film and edit
What a beautiful location. I can’t wait to see the results of your renovations. The name brand refrigerator isn’t necessary, just a good quality one is. I’m very happy for you!
If you want a pop of colour you could get your fridge wrapped. Apparently advertising companies that do vehicles etc can do this and it doesn’t destroy your appliances.
Wow fabulous 🤩 go light No Smeg fridge, and dark style cabinet on kitchen doors x looking forward to it all coming together .thank you to you and your brother for taking us with you x
Your videos are some of my favorites. There's a lovely mix of informative, amusing and wholesome. I'm excited to see what you guys do with your new home!
White kitchen will not only not go out of fashion, but make the room bigger & lighter, led lights are cool, large America fridges are great, glass splashbacks look good
Few things to consider ...... Sliding or barn door for the rooms. The swing of a normal door removes wall and floor space that is usable as it needs to be clear for the door. You get this space back and have more usable space. The doors can slide behind things like shelving. When you raise the roof you could extend it to also cover the seating area of the patio. Put a wall and doors up for the inside of the house but this could let you put roof mounted patio heaters and use the patio regardless of weather. Imagine a rainy chilly day but the patio is covered and heated and you sit with a blanket. I am not talking about the 2nd patio in the green space but the one touching the house. A big thing is to not forget to put extra "hidden" spots for hooking up things like garden hozes and plugging in any tools you may want to use in the garden. It is very long and rectangular so having a hidden plug / outlet and not having to run a cord or hoze the whole way across may come in handy as once you add more plants and fixtures in the garden it could be a bit of pain going around it all when doing work. If you are going to redo the space then take the chance to run some water and electric plugs. I would also advise putting up posts for sunshades in the garden. You can hide them but have them if you need to. This could avoid burning of grass in a heat wave, let you put up a hammock and the sunshades also help it be more comfy to sit in the garden and not get a sunburn. The shades are easy to remove and you can change them out to suit your theme. It is a good and cheap backup. When removed and the posts well hidden..... it is like it does not exist at all. If there is no window or a room only gets natural light part of the day you can use a suntube to get natural light into the room all day. The path to the 2nd patio in the green space is stones and dirt. If it rains hard you are going to get that dirt all over your stones and patio. Just something to think about as it is more work to be done to keep it looking perfect. You could do things like a rock garden for the path to avoid the mess and put a dirt garden in another spot. It depends on personal preference. Personally less cleaning is always nice.
I can not wait to watch the reno on this one! It is going to be great! I like a lighter colored kitchen. I think it makes the space look larger. Your garden area will be so beautiful and with the sound of the water! I am jealous!
Love love this vid! The creek makes me envious! Play that up for certain! Here are my suggestions: 1. Same flooring throughout the space in a warm mid tone. Unites & enlarges. Use rugs to define spaces. 2.let how you want to feel in each space define your design. Start with color & how a color makes you feel & build a palette around that. Use upholstery/drapery fabric samples to help. Use the most neutral of your palette for walls. 3. Define the focal points of your room. In your living area you definitely want to draw attention to your magnificent outdoor area. 4. Plant for year round color & interest. For Scotland I don’t know what that is … but give yourself color & interest year round. 5. Personal preference: incorporate nod to the age of the house. How inspiring to live in a building that possibly has stood 400 yrs and provided a home for countless people!
Really? Not too many lovely or wonderful architectural features like original fireplaces or bay windows or cornicing. Look like pretty standard boring square rooms with not so much natural light at the moment.
I agree Rebecca. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on this house that already has perfectly fine updates. Better to make this kind of renovation in a home in really bad shape. But I'm older and understand the value of money. Don't fix it if it isn't broken.
For the refrigerator, you could always get a white one (of any brand) and paint it whatever color you want to give the room that pop of color you desire. My only argument about the trend of modern living spaces is that at one point or another it will look dated anyway, so do what you want, just make sure there is a way to work storage into the bedrooms and kitchen.
Light kitchen walls, darker cupboards, non-trendy frig, bigger is better there and lighter countertops. Congratulations on your new home. I love the creek outside; the sound of moving water is one of my favorites. I love the deep windowsills, a cup of coffee, a wonderful book and life is perfect!
I love reno videos but I really like the tone of your narrative, it is very relaxing. I will be watching. Can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks.
Agreed. Don't know if they are done there, but a screened- in covered porch is nice for cats. They can be outside, but safe at the same time. Mine love it
Love the space, perfect for you and your brother! You've got some great ideas, will wait to see what you both ultimately chose. If it were me, I would have light colors on the walls in the kitchen and living room areas, with splashes of slightly darker colors (window trims, etc.) for contrast. Looking forward to seeing the finished product! 🍁
Given the Scottish weather, it's as important to think of the view from the house in bad or dull weather. Really important to have winter colour and lots of different foliage texture to look at, as someone else remarked below Re year-round colour.
I love the windows that would be facing SE for more natural light. I would keep as much of your garden with grass in contrast with the concrete to keep it more traditional! I absolutely love the bathroom concept! Keep in mind, you will want to keep a lot of storage in the bedrooms! I’m sure it will turn out amazing!

My goodness, you have great taste! In designers, contractors and all the things you've picked out for your home. That kitchen table is fabulous. Your videos are mesmerizing. I just love them. Keep them coming.
I love the house! It's got a lot of potential. I'm not crazy about the shower glass wall. I prefer an enclosed shower, not just a single wall. When the water hits you, it ricochets off in many directions and you get droplets flying everywhere. Also, I think the Smeg appliances are adorable but way overpriced.
The appeal of the single wall is that (I think) it would be much easier to keep clean? Enclosed showers have so many little nooks and crannies that you have to get into which is why I was keen for this layout. And likewise on the Smeg front! Might just get a toaster or kettle from them instead of a big ole fridge.
@@Patchy we did something like that and within weeks did full enclosure. Water gets everywhere... maybe I splash water like a duck but it annoyed us to no end. We rented the plc as air bnb later and I'm glad we didn't keep the single pane set up. It looked lovely but was highly impractical and made for much more daily cleaning. I loved your tiny house videos and can't wait to see what you ll do with this one. I'm in Glasgow so it ll super interesting to see how you get on with builders and budgets. I'm looking for a house so will no doubt steal some of your ideas and learn from your experiences. Love the cats!!
George Dunnett, you need to look into non-tile shower wall materials! There is a class of man-materials called Solid Surface. These are composite materials that have the same coloring and materials through-and-through. The advantage they have is they will look good longer than you do, they may outlive you, and they are repairable in place if they ever get scratched or chipped. Here in the States brand names are Corian and Swanstone. My shower is a newer brand, called Transolid and we had our tub removed in 2018 and replaced with a shower. It is waterproof, of course, but also does not mold or mildew. No grout lines. I have caulking in the joints where the walls meet and this is covered with Transolid cove molding. The only caulk visible is between the bottom of the wall and the top of the shower pan. I have to scrub my shower pan every month or so because it has grooves for traction and water collected there can cause a slime mold to grow, but I have NEVER washed the walls. Easy peasy. It is more expensive up front, but will last, looking good, waterproof, for my lifetime. If your home is not super insulated and tight, an open shower can be drafty. A heavy canvas shower curtain can go in the washing machine regularly. Then no glass to clean, either.
@@Patchy we have a glass shower. It is a pain in the butt to keep clean. I'd recommend at least a textured glass wall, where dried water and streaks aren't noticeable plus you get some extra privacy.
I'm all about a light and airy kitchen. I want to be able to see any dirt but also in a smaller space you really want to open it with light. I like things hidden away in an appliance garage to free up counter space. It's nice to have clean counters especially when your kitchen is open to the rest of the room. Get roll out drawers if you can. Not having to get down and dig for stuff is so nice. Can't wait to see it!
The kitchen with large windows rimmed in black with black drawers & white marble top and open shelving, (open shelving is nice but dust collectors) black & brass sconces are great touch. Just make sure you have enough prep space & location of stove & refrigerator in proximity of sink. Called kitchen triangle. Your idea to open the space up between Kitchen & living room will give you a better sense of space. Good luck
I definitely prefer the more traditional looking kitchen - I just think it's more timeless. Also Scotland and that landscape just screams cottagecore (however with that power line in the backyard, I thought a western vibe could be super cool) Regardless of what you do, I think it's gonna look so good!! I love a good renovation series
Good points! It will be pretty traditional/cottagey throughout, especially with sash and case windows and things like that, but I'm keen to do something a bit different with the kitchen just to make things interesting. Thank you! :)
Think light kitchen would help make the space feel lighter. Especially if it’s smaller space. But looks like a lovely property!! ❤ the little creek so cool
Another option in your kitchen is a butchers block on wheels to give that bit more bench space that can be brought out for prep on when entertaining and then pushed back when not in use, the renders look stunning cant wait to see some updates
Absolutely in love with the garden already! That view is stunning!! The designers did such an amazing job aswell. Excited to see the progress of this house 🥰🫶🏼
I agree with the dining table being the separation piece between the open plan space. I would go for either a Laminate flooring/tiled flooring throughout that looks like timber, you’d be surprised with how realistic it is nowadays. The kitchen colour will be important in how it correlates with your walls. I’ve seen some comments how you want a modern kitchen but have a traditional feel throughout, I think the opposite wall you could do some simple panelling painted in an accent colour. And then for your kitchen, do a two tone, lower can be timber, countertop - a nice granite or quartz and the your top cabinets can match the opposite accent wall colour. Pair the sitting room with a large rug but if it’s going to be used as a mat from coming from the garden make sure it is a dark colour. And depending on how high the wall is make sure the console table is at least a foot higher than the coffee table. Loving the content, have just watch 4 straight vids!!
Modern is ugly, poor taste materialism, cheap and ruined. Zubir, yuk, why is he popularizing cheap junk furniture? Sigh. I sometimes wonder if this is all ads/trendsetting (in the wrong direction) nvm. Only natural materials, stone, bricks, wood or reclaimed wood with antique, vintage and handcrafted furniture is beautiful and worthy. Scenic paintings, homemade curtains, made with love and helps grow your aura (health), true physics. Fiber sellers no thank you. Real men are craftsmen, they use their hands to build and create works of art, wisely choosing natural, traditional materials, and they plant and design permaculture gardens with chickens, a rooster, cows and horses and lovingly care for them and their family. Real men also sail on boats and do other man things. That have nothing to do w/purchasing ready made mass produced corp. junk. Who is putting you up to this unfortunate trendsetting? that is bad for humankind and nature. We are losing real men and everything that matters. Please don't hire cheap people, fake men to install ugly made in china or ikea slave labor (low wage) chemical mass produced (corporate/nwo) furniture that is also bad for our aura and the environment. Tears. Such a beautiful traditional village only real things please. Millions or billions of humans supporting corp. junk, including corp. junk food, is a tragic malpractice and a great loss of tradition, health and sovereignty.
ALL interesting but be sure to have a quilt here or there in the decor. Yep, quilts can be traditional or modern but always a welcome on a chill day. I am Sure a woman in Scotland or a shop there can make a quilt that is suitable for use (cotton or wool batting). Yep, quilts will be wonderful…hahah ok, I am a simple quilter but I would not steer you wrong.
I think if you are seeking more light in your living space, going with lighter cabinets and dark accents will, I think, pay off for a Scottish living space. And coming from Scotland, light is everything in these short winter days. Love your content and excited for your new adventure!
Suggest folding Constina glass doors from the lounge to the garden. All glazing to be triple glazed and insulate all peripheral walls and under roof. Check the footings of the peripheral walls as they may need under pinning considering the age of the house, if they have footings, preventing cracked walls. Check for damp in every wall and what measures need to be taken to isolate the adjacent stream seeping into the building. Black mould can be lethal. Light colours throughout avoiding cave like proportions. You may like to look at German HUF homes regarding roof lines and allowing light into the home.
Love your plans for the garden. I vote go modern and light and minimal no pricey colored fridge. I think you can now but “wraps” to put color on front of fridge much less cost and still pop of color.
Wow, congratulations, you must be pretty excited about all this. Really looking forward to this new direction for you. Also, gotta love Junior, what a charmer!
I chose a high end dark kitchen for our new appartment (rental, because in Germany we are effin mental and either have to buy ourselves our own kitchens for rentals or move with our old ones ´)...but I only did that since everything is open, flooded with light, light wooden floors, *everything the space you showed is not*, despite imagined VELUX windos. I would always opt for light surfaces if the surrounding is not giving much light to it. FOr SMEG or no SMEG: if you like the design, there is no way around it, if you want color for a stand alone fridge, an inexpensive way to give color to any color of fridge is this vinyl like foil from amazon that you can use on it. We changed a white dishwasher front into a grey one with that.
I know it's been a year, but for anyone looking to buy appliances: don't go for looks or candy colors or anything. Go for performance. Research brands in Consumer Reports. Appliances aren't what they used to be, and you don't want to have to replace them every few years.
Congratulations George! Love Zubair's work best, keeping it light & sleek...I love a lot of windows, not crazy for a Retro look. Looking forward to seeing its completion, good luck!
I think Scotland is much the same as the Netherlands when it comes to weather, and those open showers require you to heat the entire bathroom in winter. Just an fyi. With current gas prices.
I'd actually go exposed beams, old world style...but newly updated. Especially with raised roof! Top-bottom washer-drier in hall, under sink 1/2 sized dishwasher, wine rack, FIREPLACE!! Open cabinets, 5" wide hand hewn flooring...probably Envi heaters (.04/hr) in the bathroom and small bedrooms- ceiling fan to circulate air...skylights ...
I live in the USA but both my maternal great grandparents came from Scotland (Airdree?). I've never been able to physically visit, but my heart is there. So this video was a delight. Thanks.
@@jswmonkey197 I've read it was a coal town. And they settled in a small coal town in PA (Shamokin). A good town to be FROM, as my sainted Mother used to say about the town.
Hi, so I would get hardwood floors from reclaimed wood if possible, to get the authentic old vibe which I personally like in authentic old houses. Also, personally I do not like joint kitchen-living rooms. I would put the kitchen on the other side of the stairs, even if it means downsizing the bath and then add an additional W.C. (small one for guests) on part of where the kitchen is planned now. Two W.C.s is a very practical.
I'm very excited to see how this progresses. I think you made the right call about the smeg fridge - I feel like people buy Smeg fridges for the wrong reasons. £2k+ is a big price tag to pay just for a pop of colour when another fridge half the price would do just as good a job at refrigerating things. What's your plans for your current place, would you be renting that out once this house is completed?
New subscriber here. Love your design aesthetic, the clean and modern look. Looking forward to seeing the garden area develop as well. Enjoying catching up on your video series, you have a great sense of humor. Wishing you health and happiness with this endeavor!
I love the design with the table rather than the breakfast bar, as you mentioned, it’s far more modular for different uses. Congratulations on the new place, I know it will look smashing 🩵
You have got the most amazing garden on the outside of the wall provided free by the beautiful surroundings! I would want to take the wall down to enjoy it, maybe put a low hedge along the boundary. In short any thing to keep that amazing view.❤
I am going to sit back comfortably and watch your home transform and bloom into something beautiful. For me this will be both cathartic and exciting to see its development. All the very best!
Congratulations on your new home! A key thing to remember is storage space - cleverly hidden & lots of it if your are going for a minimalist look. It's good to consider hobbies & special items & where they will go (TV, video games, books, art, pantry, seasonal etc).
Yes, lots of storage, look for every place you can fit in even a small hidden cupboard between interior wall studs. Small houses with small kitchens need places all through the house where you can put things away.
We have an ensuite bathroom in our loft conversion, nothing as fancy as your planned bathroom but we definitely benefit from an enclosed shower unit. It keeps the heat and steam in so it gets really warm. I've no experience of this open style but I can't imagine it being as effective as an enclosed one. Whether you can find a unit that looks open but is in fact enclosed is the challenge.
The light traditional kitchen references you showed are so pretty! I also love a colourful fridge, doesn't have to be Smeg, but I think a normal one will also compliment the space well.
Cheers! Go light especially in a dark room. You'll find dark wood shows every speck of dust. Light wood not only reflects but is forgiving. You've already decided against the bright appliances. Use pillows or curtains for that so if you bore of them you can change them out inexpensively. Best to you in your new home.
Hello, George. I simply LOVE your new house! I think it could be magical. I am certain my opinion will differ from everyones. lol. I'm a middle aged American woman who is completely charmed by the cozy cottage Scottish home. I would base every decision in the house based on its most impressive feature - THAT HILL. That hill should inform every choice in the home, in my opinion. So keep it quite traditional, forget the Japandi vibe and modern sterility. Get as many windows on that HILL as possible, bring in natural light and exposed wood (medium brown, not too dark). Make it warm and cozy and inviting, so when you walk in you want a pot of tea, a pint of beer and a pipe by the fire. Maybe even some floral fabric or traditional colors like green, mauve, burgundy. Have everything tying it in to the garden and THAT HILL. I'd keep the garden like a cottage garden filled with carefree heaps of flowering shrubs, with a long green expanse down the middle that allows you to throw a ball for your Westie. Hold on, I am packing my bags as we speak. I love it.
Smart to do 3d layout options! It helps to visualize. If course, the more light, the better! If you go with roof windows, consider blackout blinds for them.
Hope ya don't mind a comment from a guy in the US. If you do, just disregard the following comment(s). First, I really think you'll regret going with darker colours. I do not like homes that look like "surgery rooms" painted all white, either. But, things can always be added to give a "splash" of colour. NO on the smeg ice box, Colours on the counter(s) like toaster, blender, air fryer, etc., would do. Also, and don't know how you feel about this, but, plants. Hanging plants, potted floor plants. They add "more" than colour, they add "life". (in my opinion) Well, pushed ideas on ya that ya probably didn't expect and/or want, so I'll close this. For now!!! Enjoy the journey. I'll be watching ya. Oh yeah, the cat. Now SHE'S a splash of colour!!!
This is just my personal preference but I would make the kitchen more traditional like the counter wise because I think it would suit the vibe of the house more! If you want a pop of color you could have the counters/cabinets be a color..
Wonderful stuff! Very exciting to see the inclusion of VELUX roof windows in your designs. There’s a showroom in Scotland if you need any help in selecting the right ones 🤞
The best thing we did when we remodeled our kitchen was put in a skylight. Our is Velux, 2 ft x 4 ft, and can open. Then, when the kitchen gets too hot (or, heaven forbid, smoky) we can open the roof window and let out the heat and smoke. It is the light that I notice every day, though. Even with it on the north side of the house, it makes the kitchen feel so much bigger and more inviting. Spring for the electric opener, though. We have to hide the crank to reach the window to open it behind our couch!
I think adding Sky lights to the living room/kitchen area will make the place look great. I would personally try to add a log burner. Don't waste your money on a Smeg. Look forward to seeing your journey.

@@Patchy then when you get bored of a colour it's cheaper to switch out a toaster than a Smeg 😉. Best of luck with it. Junior is getting big 😻
This is how I do most rooms - everything neutral, then I can just swap out cushions and a throw.
I would prefer to spend money on hiding a fridge versus featuring one :)
No way that I'm using a stairs with no handrail and I'm 54. Just can't do it.

I'm a fan of the quaint, eclectic style. It's all so sleek these days.
Me too. I live in an apartment and can't do much to it, so I especially love watching the rental-friendly makeovers.
Interesting use of the expression feral. That’s a negative expression where I am from.
Good point. Hope he sees this one!
I agree. So glad I went with a shower enclosure. In winter you can certainly feel the chill when that door opens. 🥶
Scotland is more than quite chilly in the winter! Absolutely freezing 🥶 right into April..
I live in Scotland, have a open shower, not cold atall!
The view from the back garden is worth the money alone. Looking forward to seeing this progress.
We're really pleased with it! And I hope I can deliver a good series on it.
@@Patchy Have you considered a (partial) permaculture approach for the garden?
Well done. Is that the Pentland Hills?
@@oseanavuso4108 Get a firepit in that garden - doesnt need to be a summer only garden
I'm from Kinross and the hill looks a lot like Benarty south of Loch Leven.
The wry humor just makes my heart happy. So glad to learn you did not "kill an angular man."
When it comes to the kitchen, it has to be properly ventilated and light because you want it to be properly lit at all times of the day.
Totally agree :)
@@cmpc724 so neither is brilliant perfect XD well honestly i did grow up in a house with a wooden kitchen that did work really well :)
No black kitchens
@@somewherestuckinl.a.3239 can you put up some mirrors opposite the windows to create more light?

I would definitely use you when I’m re-designing my small kitchen next year Zubair! I really like your style/vision. Just saving up for it now… 😂
Thank you all ..
❤ the new place! if you’re located near a car paint shop they should be able to spray any fridge any color you wish for a much cheaper price tag, to get the exact “POP” of color you are looking for in your kitchen.
Great idea. 😃 Yes, the Smeg fridges are very expensive and as with all appliances, it can be pot luck as to how long they last. 🤷
For the kitchen I'd say go traditional but open. I love making my apartment feel cozy all year, and modern styles don't always convey that
No. Go contemporary minimalism
I enjoy your calm demeanor and your sense of humor. It’s really relaxing to watch your videos.
Hope you all like this one! Any questions or suggestions, just leave a comment. Check out the Fiverr sellers I used in the description as well.
Oh... and I forgot to mention in the video, we're putting in new flooring which is why I was wearing shoes inside...! 💃👠
There are a lot of tutorials of making a regular refrigerator into a Faux Smeg. It might make an interesting video too.
Don’t go for the smeg they are overpriced and overdone. On the other side women in their 30s really like them so might be a selling point
I love your Cat!
Carpet at the entrance. Not USA lol
Traditional light kitchen you can not go wrong with. Never goes out in style.
Junior is a content machine! Love the new house, hope the remodel goes well
She certainly is. Getting her was the best decision I've made all year! :)
I put heated floor panel in my bathroom renovation. Love it in winter. It wasn't expensive. The only problem was cracked ceramic tile in unheated threshold between heated and cold laundry area. It should have had a transition piece.
This is such a cool idea. I had no idea it was that easy to hire designers. Thanks so much for making the vid!
Cheers Brian! Yeah I've used Fiverr a few times in the past for logos/graphic design work but never anything like this. Well worth a shot if you're looking to rearrange or renovate your house!
Your cat is a treasure. Congrats on the house!
I am so glad I got her! And thank you!
She's so cute it's barely manageable. I don't know how he can get any work done with her around!
I'd go for modern and minimal like your last house. You can make it cozy by adding wooden features and textures throughout the house in a nice natural colour palette. I'm excited to see how you will change the space, I'm sure it will look awesome! 🙂
this place has so much potential! definitely would stick to mid-century modern in general. and no smeg for the kitchen. aaand.. really like that Junior is helping you
Thanks Stacy! And I'll have a look for some ideas in that style. Noted on the Smeg, and yes she is being very helpful with it all.
Orange and grey mid-century modern with lots of light!
Big yes to the secret/invisible wardrobe (my Narnia obsession is speaking)! Love all the ideas and can't wait to see what you do with the new house.
This house is absolutely stunning as-is. I'm looking forward to seeing your vision come to life!
Hi George! Don’t go for super expensive “pops of colour” - use art instead! More affordable, easy to change and comes in all kinds of fun colours 😊
I love reno videos but I really like the tone of your narrative, it is very relaxing. I will be watching. Can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks.
I just want to say thanks for the Junior content. Also, looking forward to see how all this comes to fruition. 😁👍🏻
Haha I'm trying to find ways to fit her into every video. She does make it quite easy. And thank you! :)
Since you get lots of rain there I would recommend a covered porch as an addition to the open deck/patio.
@@Patchy An open shower gets COLD with nothing to hold the warmth.
Congratulations on your new home! Exciting. No SMEG or retro. Light bright kitchen. Looking forward to watching the house grow into your home.
Suggestion: Whatever refrigerator you get, have SMEG applied where a real SMEG fridge would be! 😂
Love this! Your dry humor cracks me up… I’m grateful for the Fiverr guys info. Looking forward to your progress. -Jules in Massachusetts 🏡
You had me at the stream! Beautiful piece of land - I can’t wait to see what you do with the garden.
❤ the little creek so cool
what a gorgeous view!! can't wait to see what you both do with this space :)
Definitely light and modern for the kitchen! Can’t wait to watch your home transform.
I’m 28 and already want to retire to somewhere like here. Congratulations to you and your brother 🎉
How lovely is this house. I hope you get everything done for you. Maybe, I will live in Scotland too. I would love to. Best wishes to you both. x
Awesome plans. Continue to use your feelings to guide your choices so that the inside of your house sings your soul in the same way the garden does.
I think Scotland is much the same as the Netherlands when it comes to weather, and those open showers require you to heat the entire bathroom in winter. Just an fyi. With current gas prices.
I agree! Plus, it made me sad that there’s no bathtub. A good long soak is nice on a cold day.
I'd actually go exposed beams, old world style...but newly updated. Especially with raised roof!
Top-bottom washer-drier in hall, under sink 1/2 sized dishwasher, wine rack, FIREPLACE!! Open cabinets, 5" wide hand hewn flooring...probably Envi heaters (.04/hr) in the bathroom and small bedrooms- ceiling fan to circulate air...skylights
...
I just want to live in Scotland. When I visited Scotland I fell in love with it. My ancestors came from Scotland and I just felt like I was home.

You could have an island on wheels that joins up to or turns 90° from the L shape of the kitchen, to zone it and keep the functionality
Def delete the island counter and put in the round table.Opens it up so much! and do the kitchen light. It'll lift your spirits.Worked for me.
SPF 50,000?? Here in Central Florida you would need SPF 1.6 million.
Love the view of the hills from your garden. Light kitchen all the way (no SMEG).
Congratulations on the move! Also, what a beautifully grand house.
Thanks!
Congratulations on your new home! A key thing to remember is storage space - cleverly hidden & lots of it if your are going for a minimalist look. It's good to consider hobbies & special items & where they will go (TV, video games, books, art, pantry, seasonal etc).
And larger cleaning supplies - vacuums, brooms, etc.
Yes, lots of storage, look for every place you can fit in even a small hidden cupboard between interior wall studs. Small houses with small kitchens need places all through the house where you can put things away.
Think you done pretty well for your money, love the garden space
Yeah we're happy with it, and likewise, excited about having a garden this time round.
A bargain, love the 3 d pictures , traditional kitchen for me
Noted!
I love it.
I love the hill in back. Good luck!
Thank you! :)
Love "I didn't kill a very angular man" !
Don't want the FBI coming after me.
