    Question - if you were going to fall, would this increase the chance of being dragged or having issues w the foot staying in the stirrup? Also, what is the life span of the magnets, change every year?

    • @horsierida
      @horsierida 5 років тому +24

      SarahG1183 I feel like the weight/gravity of you falling would be enough to go against the pull of the magnet . Although it will be Interesting to see what Lauren has to say !

    • @fyttii
      @fyttii 5 років тому +18

      The stirrups will not hold your weight if you fall, so they will decrease the chance of being dragged very much

    • @jadahansen3902
      @jadahansen3902 5 років тому +15

      From what I’ve seen the point of the design is to decrease your chance of having your foot caught in the stirrup, the gravity of falling should be enough the disconnect the magnet :)

    Wow gabbana is stunning. I used to use magnetic stirrups all the time, with my disability and surgeries leading to me having no ankle strength and unable move my heel up or down. Mine were a classic stirrup shape though these look better in the sense of safety and not being dragged. Although the magnets are designed to give support whilst your weight is centered on top, if you fall gravity + body weight and speed of falling instantly releases the magnet. The risk of dragging is there with any stirrup especially with people like myself who cant move their ankle (been there not fun lol). They instantly helped my seat since I wasn't focusing all my time on keeping my stirrups and i could focus on the rest of my bodies positioning. I would suggest them to people with weak lower leg/ankles that cant be improved. Although if your lower legs are fine I wouldn't suggest using them all the time, just for shows or really big jump training. It's very easy to become fully reliant on the magnet which is something I struggled with.

    I needed these stirrups in my life 7 years ago.... riding accident (horse fell on me), foot stuck in stirrup when horse got up which twisted and shattered my whole left foot.... many MANY operations and hospital visits later and I can still barely use it! I’ve taught two horses some more difficult tricks and quite a few horse really simple ones like smile and hug.

  • @KiyaWoodEquestrian

    The stirrups are a great idea! Especially for people with poor circulation... as soon as my heels are down, I can’t feel much of my feet so I have to put the stirrup just above the ball of my foot, so with rubber grip stirrups my feet slip, so I currently use the ‘cheese grater’ stirrups😂 Do you find them easy to remove when dismounting? The only thing I’d be scared about is taking an emergency dismount with them😂😂 Gabbana looks great❤️ x

    Ah I have a huge TB mix named Nalu she's such a smart bugger sometimes it gets her into trouble 😅 maybe she has Shetland in her🤔 any way I only ride her in a braided rope halter and I find that my Nalu does way better in a bitless than a bit. I'm a little sad tho because where I'm at we can't do competitions in a bitless bridle. 😳

    Imagine walking through the aisle while the farrier is there and dragging all the nails and other metal to your feet 😂
    On a more serious note I think they could be a great tool for someone who is an insecure rider and needs to build confidence. Or for riding horses who try to get you off maybe? Although you might need a magnetic saddle + underwear for that 😂
    I doubt learning riders will benefit from having the stirrup do the work, though...

    • @jadahansen3902

      I’m pretty sure they’re designed for safety during a fall - your feet wouldn’t get caught and the stirrup would come off from the pull of the fall, so you don’t have a chance of being dragged from your stirrup :)

    I think I'm actually one of a few who don't like the design of those stirrups. Don't get me wrong they are a fab idea and I know this is a one in a million chance, but I'd be afraid that they would get hooked or caught on things if you were to fall off due to the missing section. I know a stirrup leather will snap under that sort of pressure or even slip out of the hook in the saddle, but it's that one chance that is doenst that I fear it would cause catastrophic consequences to the saddle and or the horses back. I have no fears that they would go anywhere far from your foot when riding though! How on earth do you get them off of your foot for dismounting??

    • @fyttii
      @fyttii 5 років тому

    just some friendly observation...you are a lovely rider, just offering unsolicited tips here lol....I would love to see more depth into your lower leg and heel and a bit less upper body movement, you are borderline swinging your upper body (your flexibility and flow is good though)...you are a great rider but could use more connection with your horse from your seat down to your heel vs swinging the upper body, your hands are good though...also, your horse is wanting more setting up from you when going into the canter departure, she is unnecessarily taking off incorrectly and offering a frustrated gesture like a cow kick or slight buck...you are either not aligning her body enough for a smooth canter take off, or asking for the canter too abruptly or more abruptly than she is ready to give at that moment, possibly too strong of a canter command, or just not giving the horse enough subtle set up clues that you will be asking for the departure to canter...Regardless of her level of training at this point or any other reason, I still would suggest more set up and better communication for a smoother transition into the canter :) hope that helps
