Thank you for the great instructional. I just thrifted a blazer and the shoulder pads look like a quarterback. As a beginner sewer this type of instruction showing techniques is invaluable.
Wow! Thank you so much for making this video!! I avoid buying blazers I like just because of the gigantic shoulder pads, but I will definitely try this! This is pure gold!!!!
OMG! YOu're a life saver! I have this plaid blazer with insane padding for over a year but didn't wear it because of the giant shoulder pads!!! Now that I removed them, I'm happy to report I'm wearing the blazer for the first time! Thank you for this tutorial!
Thank you so much, perfect timing! I want to wear my old blazer that I’ve had since the 90’s because it’s warm wool but the pads look ridiculous so I thought I would google how to remove and there you are! The same EXACT Lauren blazer (although mine is camel)! Same process as yours & looks fabulous! I can now wear my fav blazer that’s been sitting for 25 years!🎉
This was SUCH a helpful and informative video! I'm grateful yours was the first one recommended in my search! Very easy to follow and I'm super happy with my results! I also happen to be working on a ralph lauren blazer so I feel like this video was made for me 😆❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I thrifted an insane vintage purple suede blazer last night and I was ready to tear it all apart to take off the most ginormous shoulder pads ever! Your video made it super easy! 💜
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that the video was able to help you and that you achieved a nice result. Your support means the world to me!
I am so glad I watched this before I started poking at the seams around the shoulders. My blazer has short sleeves, and I found my opening at the hem. Not even three inches of a window, but the shoulder pads came out so easily. Thanks!
Thank you for that video, I almost went to professional to get those out, but because I am a crafty person I wanted to try it on my own. I saw your video skipped the beggining (which was the most important). First I looked at my right sleeve and said to myself, its better to cut it open on the left, there will be less pressure if I stich it back baddly (because usually on the right arm I have my bag and it is a little more pulling on the sleeve) 😅 and there I found a treassure of sem to tear it appart - the one I would know immediately, if I didnt skipped the bideo.
Thank you for sharing your story! It's amazing to see how creative and resourceful our viewers can be. I'm thrilled the video inspired you to take on the challenge yourself!
Thank you so much, I have just thrifted 2 animal print (on trend here in the UK now) jackets, one is a blazer, the other a faux fur swing coat and I want to remove both sets of shoulder pads. Great explanation on your part.
@@SewAnastasia yes, it looks much more "approachable" now and easier to style more casually, i know I will get a lot more wear out of it now! Thank youuuuu
What a great video and the timing couldn’t be better. I have been downsizing, and I was going through clothes hanging in my attic yesterday. I found five great suits I wore when I was working. I am now retired, so no need for suits! But there are two suits 😅that I would like to keep. Shoulder pads need to come out! So, your method should work perfectly! Now I have to find out whether or not it makes financial sense to have the pants altered (too big), or just keep the jackets. Thanks much!
Hi Anastasia! Guy who's learning to tailor at age 60 here! I love your videos and your teaching style! First attempt (on a practice coat) to take in the shoulders on a mens sport coat. I'm having an issue with missed stiches when sewing though the multiple layers of fabric and padding (reattaching top of sleeve to shoulder). Is there a special needle or thread you recommend? Just using a new all purpose needle and polyester thread. Thanks so much! I lost weight and got in shape, so this is a priority! :)
This is exactly what I needed! I just found an old suit jacket with pads and one of them just doesn't look right. Like it's positioned wrong or they used the wrong one and it shows though a bit lumpy from the outside. I was scared by the fact that it's inside of the lining. I used to always take out shoulder pads back in the day for those easy-to remove ones because I already have wide straight-out shoulders and don't care for any more enhancement. A doctor once asked if I was a swimmer and that was a big "no" for this couch potato.
Yeah I do have some videos where I do that or at least talk about it.You will need to take it the shoulder seam and possibly take in. the sleeve but you might be able to just ease it back in. Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/GHaFC_5NTw8/v-deo.htmlsi=qZK28FvPLPLN1adk
Thank you for this! Do you have a video already of what you described as the "more work to do" to take in the shoulder after thick shoulder pads? I have a blazer that I love and got a great deal on, but it is both a little big in the shoulders and has big should pads, so I'm on the hunt for a parsimonious solution.
I think I go over it in this video. I have a few other blazer videos too. How To Tailor (Take In) The Shoulders On A Jacket Or Blazer | Sew Anastasia ua-cam.com/video/GHaFC_5NTw8/v-deo.html

You are adorbs!! Perfect timing for this. I purchased a beautiful blazer years ago but haven't worn it b/c of the shoulder pads. I will give this a try. Thanks🧵🪡
@@Stealthfulness you can sew it back together after you seam rip it. If the lining separated at the armhole there is a good change it was hand sewn in.

Hi 👋 It’s possible your machine can’t handle the layers. What kind of machine are you using?
New Brother 371SD. It doesn't seem to be struggling at all here. In fact, I've gone through five layers of denim. No problem

Apparently my shoulder pads have been sewn in under the lining so the flipping didn’t reveal them. Is that typical?
The shoulder pads should be under the lining. They where is this demo too. Thats why you need to seam rip the seam & get to the inside of the jacket.

I tried to get rid of mine by myself and i opened it from the shoulder seam, is it ruined now?
No but you should turn it inside out & sew back the shoulder seam.
And what if the lining is attached to the shell? I destroyed two sports coats because they were stitched together at the shoulder...
