this song took me, oh, lemme check, oh, SIX MONTHS, to finish!!! yeah!!!! i finished the instrumental in december, finished the lyrics in january, mixed it in february, started working on the pv in march, and then got distracted with making like five other songs, remembered that this song existed, and then finished the pv in under a week. yeah.
ALSO FUN FACT this is the first (good) instrumental i made in garageband IOS!!!! i've made a bunch more songs on there since then and have even started using garageband for the mac now, so this song is rlly outdated and I'm already cringing @ the lyrics and instrumental but i still hope u guys like it uwu

A masquerade party was hosted, with invitations required to enter the building. As it goes on something seems off about a certain guest. She doesn't even wear a mask, and seems confused if you point it out. The host doesn't remember inviting her. People keep trying to pick out a mask for her, but she can't choose. Eventually someone asks her to wear a mask and she responds with "but I'm already wearing one!" And takes off her face, revealing a void underneath. Everyone runs from her in fear, but the doors are jammed. She's trapped them all inside.
And I have no idea how it ends. This is just what I've surmised from the song.

I personally think this about a domestically abusive and/or VERY controlling relationship. The abuser hides their true feelings with abuse(like a mask). The abused one wants to escape, but they can’t because they love their abuser too much.
That’s the only thing I could get out of the lyrics and the theme...
Mrs.GHOSTY I got that everyone has a social “mask” to fit in. The protagonist changes their mask to reflect who they’re around to please them, but they don’t know who they actually are under the mask. They’re so focused on making people like them that they don’t have a sense of self.

this is one of those songs that kinda grows on you the more you listen to it
listened to it about a year ago, didn’t vibe. discovered it again and it’s one of my favourites
So what I get from this is kinda the problem i have, I have no opinion on a lot of things. So the main character is explaining that shes been so focused on others opinions that shes basically forgotten her own. When she says that you should pick for her, she doesn't know what she is, or what you want. Nothing evens there means she doesn't even have her own self anymore. The mask is like different ways she acts around people, so that the person would like her more. It hit me hard when she said " I can’t make a choice
, I can’t find my voice , I just wanna see whats right for me." Because I do this with the simplest things like picking something from a shop and I usually just give up and don't make a choice or have another person pick for me.
Sorry about ranting a little, This is something I can relate to and Its a bop.

I loved this song for so long but I've just decided it's my favorite.

I know this is a bit late, but my interpretation of the song has to do with an identity crisis.
The person singing the song gets confused about why people stare at them and reads that as them not liking how they act, thus, upon seeing or hearing what people do or say, they immediately attempt to make their personality fit that person’s character and tries to be friends with them. However, the people they continuously attempt to be friends with are dissatisfied and use them more than anything. This causes them to always feel pain mentally as it’s obvious that they don’t like them but they don’t want to feel left out, to feel like the only odd one, to fell alone. So they continue to go through this cycle of going through multiple personalities to see what people really like, but it ends up being their downfall with their friendships, causing them to feel disgusted with themselves. The people around them that care for them worry, but they don’t see that as comfort and more of those disgust towards their personality. They feel like they need to do this so they’re no longer alone, but it soon causes their mind to finally break and causes them to believe that they have no personality and that I really don’t matter. So instead of seeking help, I decided to hide my emotions because that’s not what I thought people seek in others. No one wants a broken toy.

My take on it is that its about depression, and other disorders. She puts on a freindly mask for all to see, but by the end she stops caring to hide herself anymore, and takes the mask off revealing her true self.

I've seen a bunch of interpretations for this song, and they're all completely different.
Mine was that this girl is a people pleaser, and is constantly hearing what other people say and seeing what they do and trying to be like them, but losing her own personality in the process. Most notably the line "I don't own the thoughts in my head, so come here and speak my mind instead" is mostly how I got to this interpretation. I also thought of the mask as hiding who she actually was, and at the end where she takes it off, she's revealing that she doesn't have a personality outside of what she thinks other people want her to be.
Idk there are so many ways to interpret this song

So like the others say the girl is constantly changing her opinions to the point that she lost herself. But I think that the masquerade party represents an intervention organized by the many friend groups she made.
"Prepared for myself to get hurt" is her worrying that her friends will start to hate her
"So come here to speak my mind instead" is referring to her friends trying to get her to express herself.
"Everybody stares insincere" comes from the fact they aren't sure how to approach her, which makes her think they don't care.
"Dramatize those words, now it's true" is how they are exaggerating to try to get their point across, but she is still trying to implement it into herself.
"No one gives a damn" is her being confused that no one is angry at her acting different.
"I have come to find that you don't seem to mind my thoughts have realigned fast" is her realizing that they don't actually want her to be just like them.
Gotta wear a mask, I can't choose" is her trying to divert them by acting normally but realizing they all know different hers.
"You share it cause you care, right?" is a little confusing, but I think it means that she thinks everyone is like her, and realizing that isn't the case.
"I can't go back. Imagine that! Behind this mask, nothing's even there" is her realizing she didn't repress herself, she almost completely erased it.
And the ending verses are her breaking down because she can't do what they want and thinking everyone hates her now because of it.

It's about a girl who is abused and forced to put on a 2 masquerades. One says "I'm fine" while Underneath that other masquerade is a person who is crazy.
Idk, I'm probably 900,000 miles away from the cannon thing, or I'm just an idiot and either the story is in the description, or this song has no story.
Edit: I have a new theory:
You know how in "your a horrible person" a void-like person is behind lucian, well notice how the girl in this song has the same texture as the void-like person when she takes off her mask, so maybe they're the same person.
With the new theory, maybe she was someone Lucian knew that was cruel towards him when they were alone, but infront of people she was nice to him (like wearing different masks?)

Maybe this song is about the internet? It has so many opinions and problems with so many solutions. The masquerade represents the thoughts of everyone else, the other party-goers represent everyone else, and the masks represent what opinions you carry. The character is suffering because they don't know what to do. "I don't own the thoughts in my head, so I come here to speak my mind instead", probably means how the character is told what to think by the people in their life, or maybe they have intrusive thoughts, so they go onto the internet to express their real thoughts. Taking their mask off represents how they don't care about what people think or how they themself think. I dunno, I think that's what I got from the song because that's really how it happened with me lol
