I think is song is about everyone seeing things as black and white hence why it’s called monochrome. But we gotta remember that in monochrome there’s also gray areas, I don’t remember who it was in this comment section that mentioned the end character having mixed features of both the devil and the angel which is further evidence for this theory. The first two characters are obviously the black and white, although as you can see they have both colors of black and white. The reason for them having both colors is because despite them being polar opposites they still have both good and bad characteristics. Another thing to see is that the white haired character is wearing all black, the black haired is wearing white, it shows how these characters often switch sides(like switching clothes)sure one can dye their hair whatever color but if they could why not just go full monochrome? This adds more fuel to the fire that these characters have both devil and angel characteristics. The final character has red eyes because they realize that the world is not just black and white it’s sees new colors being added and how decisions aren’t always black and white or as we see it in a majority of western cultures, good and bad. There are other cultures out there that view decisions as having a mix of both good and bad as a must, sort of like yin and yang. If you have one you’ll eventually have the other one to be balanced (or else it’s not balanced). But that’s the thing, this character(the final one) lives in a strong polarized world therefore they feel like they are the only one seeing this “new” information, and they know the bad things associated with staying neutral. They’re tired of playing the pointing fingers game. In the end they see no hope out hence they decide to give up in a way to the majority. And that hand we see towards the end? We aren’t 100% sure it’s from the third person, it could be from the one every seems to be talking about. Hence why we don’t see them till the third character was introduced. The third character gives us the vision to see Red. In the book, “The Giver” by Lois Lowry, the first color this main characters see is red in a monochrome world. Now these two things may not be related but despite red often associated with the devil, it can be associated with love and hate. In a way it’s expressing how people can see one thing and think two juxtaposing conclusions. But the final character shows us what the situation was not their conclusion. Hence why they’re considered neutral, although they have both characteristics just like the other characters. The only difference is the eye color. Seeing color in a monochrome world, leads to, like any other “new” idea (or ideas without much support), gets you hated from not just one side but sometimes even more, hence why in the end everyone is pointing fingers to the third character because now they will judge him for not deciding. Because they see not deciding as staying neutral and being neutral is bad.

    Okay, so... To me, at least, this seems pretty clearly a reference to the "You're either with us or against us" mentality of modern drama and callout culture, especially online. There are 3 main factors in these scenarios; the opposition, the advocate and the neutral/mediator. {WARNING: So damn much writing. *Too* much!}
The "devil" is the opposition, the one who calls people out for the bad things they did. However, in the process of furthering their idea that these people did bad things and are therefore bad people, they neglect to acknowledge growth as a person, that humans can make mistakes and not be cancelled for it, and that a couple bad things doesn't mean that person is objectively bad themselves. They usually have a good point that the people they target have done something that needs to be addressed, but they're too quick to make up their mind and jump on the hate train the moment it starts. They stop at nothing to take the people they see as wrong down, but are often overdoing it or wrong themselves.
This can be extremely damaging if it turns out the targets never actually did anything wrong, or at least what they were called out for.
The "angel" is the advocate, usually the fans of the people being called out. They defend them for their mistakes and call out the often unnecessary aggressiveness of the opposition. They see them as humans who make mistakes and come to their aid, however end up brushing their questionable actions under the rug and fail to acknowledge that you can defend someone and be on their side without agreeing with/ignoring everything they've ever done. They tend to lash out at others when they call out the people they're defending. Even though the reasoning they have for their views, like the opposition, is often valid and justified, they don't act in a reasonable way. They want to allow people the option of being forgiven, however can't find that balance of defence but also not supporting bad actions by finding ways to explain away everything.
The mediator is the last of the three presented in the video. But, the mediator is the most fluid of the 3 and has multiple forms, the one depicted is only one of them. The mediator is the person acting as a middle ground. They see both sides points and simultaneously agree and disagree with both of them. The types of neutrals/mediators are as follow:
    1. The advocate's balance -
They are advocate-leaning, but they have that balance of logic, defence vs evidence. They agree people need a chance to speak for and defend themselves, yet won't ignore their mistakes. They are more logical and able to see through bullshit than others.
(Also note the opposition's balance, the same concept but the other way around if you get what I mean, can't be arsed to separate them)
    2. True neutral -
These people aren't more on one side or another, they're in the middle and tend to make decisions only when it seems the drama is coming to a close and all the information is out there already.
    3. The passenger/sheep (The type depicted) (Also what I like to call the hostage tbh) -
These people are confused by all the information they're presented. They feel pressured to chose a side by the arguments all around them but they can't pick cause both sides seem both just as right and wrong as the other. The polar opposite views of each side makes them confused and unsure of who is in the right. They tend to flip flop their opinion a lot and are easily swayed.
They're overwhelmed by the fighting and don't want to disagree with either side. They want a middle ground where everyone can just agree on one thing and that's it but with everything going on around them they get stressed and disoriented and lose sight of their own views.
Sorry if this made like no sense and is super long, I'm very tired and I tried.

Is it just me or does the third character actually appear uninvolved, as in not whoever they're talking about? Whoever's being "canceled" might not matter, just that it keeps happening and the third person is just terrified of even getting involved or potentially being a target themselves. They could be the neutral voice among "monochrome mentalities".

  • @Queen_Beelz

So what I get from it so far is that it’s about a person being judged for their sins in the afterlife to either go to heaven and hell, hence the demon and angel. They could’ve done something wrong in everyone else’s eyes, but it actually wasn’t, but even if they did, they seem to feel guilt for it and believe they should just be punished and get it over with.
But that’s just a theory, *a song theory.*

    • @omaskit6363
      @omaskit6363 4 роки тому +135

I'm not sure if this theory is correct but I think it's close to something. If we use Christian ideologys for the devil and angel it lines up pretty well, the demon, use harsh language to reinforce his argument and "forgive and forget" being a pretty strong Christian ideology. My only problem is the third person, sure they could be the person that's being judged, but they feel like an outsider looking in. When the angel and the demon are getting nowhere with their arguments the third person says they need a middle ground, to which they say YOU be the middle ground. This stresses out the third person because the demon and angel are both trying to persuade them to their ideas

    • @jackadevil9746
      @jackadevil9746 4 роки тому +28

It seams more like its a persons consonance trying to justify their opinions on a person. They have an inability to find any middle ground between their two sides leading to them being torn apart inside. Also the person who the two sides are talking about seams to be one of those popular kids.

A demon and angel. And then someone else. Combine this with the fact that R.I.P confirmed Maika was chosen to sound like a combination of Gumi and vFlower, this song definitely feels like a way of showing how everything isn't black and white. And, the red eyes of the third character is the only contrast against the black and white "monochrome" design of this PV (EDIT: there's also the blood at the end) . Well played, R.I.P, this is some good symbolism and I'm living for it
EDIT2: someone else had this same theory but way more detailed and R.I.P hearted it so I'm going to take that as confirmation that this definitely holds some truth. Anyway, great song again, R.I.P. Always looking forward to the next one

hmm this'll probably get buried but I think this song is about cancel culture, though can also be interpreted as a regular debate between a hard decision (like angel/devil on your shoulder). The initial people call out a person for something, bringing forward a range of people claiming the same thing. However, it's seen as a purposely malicious attempt either way. The angel, the people who appear to defend the person, throw back at them how they're still just a person behind the clout. They claim the person did nothing wrong. Finally, in the midst of all of this, the person that is being cancelled breaks down, not really knowing what side to take or if it's even ok to defend themselves. They just want the the fighting to stop, wanting the doubt on them to seize so they can say or do something. At the very end, knowing the two extremes of "they're an awful person" and "they did nothing wrong" are to blame for this culture, they ask to just end their life (might be literal or might refer to the death of their career), knowing that if they fall they'll no longer have the spotlight on them and therefore survive another day. (could also be seen as basically saying "I'll never stop getting called out, it's not worth it" I'm not sure about this one though)
idk this is what i think i could be wrong and i could definitely go more in-depth but hey what can ya do
bop of a song will have this on repeat for a while
    ty stay safe

as someone who's been collectively cancelled and changed since, i understand this feeling. i had to change my online name because people simply can't understand that people make mistakes and can learn and grow from them. this is why cancel culture is toxic, it encourages the idea that you'll be the same forever.

I know this song is probably about callout culture but this actually reminded me of our experiences with Dissosiative Identify Disorder (DID), more specifically the constant debates that go on between our persecutors and protectors over if we're a good person or if the shit we experienced to make us become the system were deserved. I know it's probably a strange comparison but it just really reminded me of that? Especially the "'Cause days without a callout are days we can survive" line due to the fact that the days where this internal debate doesn't go on are sometimes the only days we're able to get anything actully done, as the debate constantly wears us out? I'm probably rambling so whoops

also, i guess this is meant to be a song about callout culture, but i think i can better connect this to the concept of “splitting” in relation to disorders like bpd and the like. splitting, to put it into simple terms, is having your mind think in extremes, with things being either wholly good or wholly bad- it’s a struggle to find a neutral area in terms of your perception of things and people. i think this pv relates to that considering the whole “monochrome” theme despite an absence of shades of gray and only high contrast between black and white. it’s a thing i really struggle with (though i don’t think i necessarily have bpd) especially when it comes to justice, which given the pv including the “devil and angel on your shoulders” as well as presenting the lyrics similar to a court case, i think counts as a good connection.
my other theory about this is osdd but i don’t have many brain cells left over from my first response so i’ll edit this comment later jfjkdjfksk orz

Here’s a perspective of mine, hope you enjoy.
Take it as more of a depression mindset: The first person being the self-hating thoughts, the second being the conscience or the self-respecting thoughts, and the third being the regret or the person with depression.
And here’s some line theories to go with it.
•”Finish tearing me in half” The constant feeling of being torn in half by regret.
•”For you to make it up to me, you’d have to end my life/Toss the poison down the hatch” Suicidal thoughts, possibly.
•”With a grain of salt for laughs” How some people think depression in teens or children is just them being dramatic or wanting attention.
•”This unsuspecting individual” How depression doesn’t have to show to be there.
Hope you liked a random depressing theory.
    But it’s just a theory...

a perception on this: The red-eyed girl is caught between her parents arguing after getting a call from the school that explained that she and an unknown popular person fought and she got hurt emotionally and/or physically (symbolized by the cut). one of the parents wants to yell and sue the popular girl's parents. the mom wants to forgive and forget, thinking that may stop this. the red-eye girl believes its all her fault for "initiating" the fight even though it was the popular girl that started it. this is not the first time they argued and not even the worst time they have
i may have pulled from past experiences. I know this isn't the cannon one but this is what I heard from it ._.''

YO YALL WANTED SOME LORE HERE U GO (spoilers I GUESS?? spoilers for WHAT???)
NO MATTER WHAT THIS SAYS YOUR INTERPRETATION OF THE SONG IS COMPLETELY VALID AND GOOD!!!!!!! I love all of you guys's takes on the meaning of the song so pls don't stop making theories because of what is said below!!! (but if u wanna keep speculating on the meaning of the song without knowing any prior knowledge abt it then feel free to not read it :))) )
#1 and #2 are talking about an unseen #4 (the "individual") and #3 is a bystander who is expected to pick a side but they're red, not black or white and so #1 and #2 get ANGY like "WHAT THE HECK NO U NEED TO AGREE WITH EVERYTHING I SAY" and so #3 is like "this is too much end me pls I can't take it I cant pick I keep going back and forth STOP FIGHTING PLEASE IM BEGGING U"
FUN FACTS: I've named the demon lad Salem and the red bandage lad Frankie but the sweater-wearing-fluttershy-lookin-ass-bitch-angel-bitch-ass-bitch doesn't have a name yet :/ I was gonna name her Lily but it felt too..... soft/plain??? for her character???? yeh

"sweater-wearing-fluttershy-lookin-ass-bitch-angel-bitch-ass-bitch", i dunno bout you but im going to be on the side that say's that's a bit overkill and rude.
im just messin, and that's pretty much what i thought the song was about, with my personal thoughts being that Frankie WAS the "individual" they were talking about, and his fear and worry were about letting either side hear any of his feelings, not knowing how someone so extreme one way or the other would react to even the mildest opinion, y'know just from the perspective of someone already in the spotlight this time.
i like both ways of looking at it, but the best way to look at this song isnt to look, it's to listen.

Serious time. Rip, there are other producers. There's creep, ghost, and others. But, you have been my motivation to, even though I'd have to use utau, and I cannot get anything I'd need to make songs at all due to the forgotten password on my computer my father refuses to do anything about, keep going, and keep pushing to one day make my own music. I've wanted to make music with loids since I was 8 or so, and I've never been able, and it's really demotivating to have all the tools you need dangling in front of you like that. But you have always really helped me to try again and again, and though it hasn't worked yet, I will continue, and I will be like you one day, as is my goal.
What I'm saying, basically, is this:
Thank you for being my motivation when I was being torn down so. You just make me so damn happy, Rip, and from the bottom of my heart you mean the world to me.
    Just. Thank you so much.

You have the radical destroyers who actively want someone they see as bad dead, then you have the radical loyalists who see nothing wrong with the person and are blaming the destroyers for everything. Ok this might seem abit dumb but this song rlly rlly reminds me of BPD for some reason, i feel "Monochrome Mentality" sorta is symbolising splitting which is what is usually seen in people with BPD, or in other terms, the Black and White thinking pattern where a person flip flops between ideologies or views on certain topics or views on people, and their views can change very quickly, idk i feel like the third person kinda shows how the black and white mentality of how they view opinions or view people and how they say it makes them feel like they are splitting in half, sorta suits it, BPD causes people to be extremely unstable and have unstable views on things and people i cant help but feel the angel and demon, instead of being separate entities, both of them exist in the mind of the third person and the third person sort of just wishes to have some kind of middle ground but they cant and thier constant contradictions and shifting views feels like they are getting ripped apart, but ye again ik this is a song with lore and characters lmao XD and it sorta shows media in general too on how there are the protectors and prosecuters and the 3rd parties but the whole BPD thing was just my personal theory on it lmao, but this song is fantastic!! Its so catchy and yes my favourite vocaloids are all here. Yes

I just realized that the "monochrome mentality" could refer to the flawed thought process of people in the cancel community, who are unwilling to look at other opinions from a different point of view. It's like a black and white mindset, where everyone is confident in believing their own logic and reasoning without considering what the opposition has to say. Because of this, they fail to realize that people can change (the flaw in the views of the demon/people trying to cancel the accused) but must also be held accountable for their actions (the flaw in the views of the angel/people trying to defend the accused.) The middle man may realize both of these things, but would rather stay out of the drama.
Anyways, this song is really catchy!! I look forward to more content from you

  • @QueenofWaifus

I know the song is about cancel culture but the song ( to me ) felt like the struggles of forgiving a toxic person. One part of you is telling you to never forgive them because of the bad things they’ve done but another part of you is telling you to give them a chance because they’re human and you’d be the bigger person. The devil and angel can just be your conflicting thoughts on someone. I could be completely wrong but thats how I interpreted the song based on personal experiences

    here’s my initial interpretation:
so while i listened to this for the first time, i sort of interpreted it as a person (the one with the red eyes who i’ll refer to as the protagonist) going through an internal conflict about whether or not to blame someone who had done something to them, most likely something that wasn’t very severe
i also assumed that person 1 and person 2 represented their conflicting emotions, like with that angel and demon thing in cartoons (person 1 has horns and person 2 has a halo, so it fits-)
the demon exaggerates what the person/“law-defying individual” did to the protagonist and starts talking to the protagonist about how the individual is a horrible person with no sense of morality and how they should die of asphyxiation
the angel tells the protagonist that they shouldn’t blame the individual because they’re “well-intentioned” and because they didn’t really do anything to the protagonist. then the angel and demon’s contradicting arguments cause the protagonist to go into a kind of crisis
but then i saw some comments about how the song’s probably about callout culture-

I get that there’s a much more common interpretation that’s probably right, but my immediate connection with this song was about BPD, actually, as someone that has it. Once, I was in a really dark place, and all the stressors felt like it made it really pop out, and I ended up lashing like this almost daily, a constant thing in my mind knowing that ‘This person didn’t do anything wrong, but I physically can’t forgive them right now’ or ‘This person really hurt me, but they’re so amazing’. It’s usually a lot more mild... but. I can really relate with this because of this, to be honest.

Sing along lyrics copied from the vocaloid lyrics wiki
Gather ‘round for all to see
    The hideous atrocities
    Committed by this individual
They don’t care what’s right or wrong
Let’s put them right where they belong
    This law-defying individual
    Latching on to contraventions
And once they are exposed we will annihilate them
    The violations
To those of you they have infected
I’m calling out the roster of accumulating
    Unsavory sins
Come on, get it over with
Toss the poison down the hatch
Their decomposed integrity with a rotten soul to match
And if it were up to me, I’d hang them by the neck
I think that I can testify we’d rather have them dead
    Hear me out
    It’s all untrue
Hey, tell me what they’ve done to you
    This unsuspecting individual
Look around, they’ve done no wrong
So put them back where they belong
    This well-intentioned individual
    Latching on to accusations
But you have little evidence to back your statements
    They’re fabrications
To those of you this has affected
I’m calling out the monster that initiated
    The needless hatred
Come on, just get over it
Try to give them one more chance
You vandalized their legacy So you better take it back
    Behind the popularity
    They’re human nonetheless
    There’s nothing I can’t justify
    Forgive them and forget
Middle ground is what I need
But I don’t dare to disagree
A world like this is inhospitable
I should know what’s right or wrong
But I can’t tell which side I’m on
    Is something like that unforgivable?
    Cut it with the contradictions
You’re making up your minds to an alarming degree
    It terrifies me
You've got no room for oppositions
So what do you plan to do if I were to be
    The adversary
Come on, get it over with
    Finish tearing me in half
    My predisposed morality
With a grain of salt for laughs
For you to make it up to me
You’d have to end the fight
‘Cause days without you casting doubt are days I can decide
    So
Come on, get it over with
    Finish ripping me apart
The monochrome mentality is what made this nightmare start
For you to make it up to me
You’d have to end my life
‘Cause days without a callout are days I can survive

Sounds quite good as usual, my friend, the only thing that is a little iffy is the instrumentals being a little too loud compared to the voices.

this'll probably get buried but i wanted to take a moment to say how much i love this song.
i know it's not the canon lore relating to it, but i see it as a battle of callout culture, you can see that both the angel and Salem have points - the person did something bad, so they should be held responsible/ they're human and they make mistakes, but they both take it way too far (we'd rather have them dead/there's nothing I can't justify) and the third person has a more complex view of morality, opposing and agreeing with both sides, because they know that this person (?) did something bad and should be held accountable, but given forgiveness and leeway to recover/learn from their actions.
this is really good to me because i feel like a lot of people who criticize cancel culture make it all about The Ess Jay Doubleyous and how you 'can't get away with saying ANYTHING THESE DAYS' but this interpretation acknowledges that both sides have points and downfalls, and morality isn't monochrome (ironically, if they had grey morals it would still be monochrome, but they're red, so thats not applicable here really hafjadfkjlfadskjl); there's a whole spectrum of morality (colors) and ways of seeing the world, not everything is just varying shades of good and bad.
anyways this is a banger. i can't stop listening and i especially love how you tuned flower. im love these characters and Will be making fanart of them hdajkadfkjfdasj
