I want to thank you for making this video. I always had trouble pronouncing this word, and after watching your video. It really helped me cracked the pronunciation for jewelry.
Omg thank you so so much 💗 i recently started working at fred meyer jewelry and because im Hispanic i have a hard time to pronounce it 😅 thanks to you i learned how to pronounce it the right way 😅
Hello👋 what's good in the hood ?I'm a new subscriber to your channel ,I'm from Egypt, English is my second language, My current level is intermediate in English and I'm fond of phonetics and sounds in English I love your channel so much, keep doing what you're doing, I'm a big fan🥳 By the way I will work as an English teacher soon.
In the northeast, we DO say it with 3 syllables. Jewel has 2 syllables, adding the “ri” ads the 3rd syllable; it’s simple. Pronunciations are regional.
Yes, it's correct and normal to say this word with three syllables. The first 2 minutes of this video talk about using the 3 syllable version, and I'm not trying to say it's incorrect. What is incorrect (which many native speakers do, as well) is that people will say joo-luh-ri and switch the sounds.
This was an easy explanation! I'm still wondering why so many American people (at least for the people who make UA-cam videos) pronounce it as 'Jool lur ree'. It's kinda bugging me
Hi, I think that's a common way of pronouncing the word, even though it's not correct. Eventually it will be considered as a correct alternative, if it gets enough use, because language changes over time, through use. I think this is a hard word to say, even for native speakers, so we end up with different versions of the word.
Some kids can't do it until they're 6 or 7, and they've had the benefit of English as their native language. And many native speakers say it incorrectly, so be patient with yourself, it's not easy!
I like how you speak. You speak very clear which easier for me to understand you. I have already subscribed your Chanel. I’m looking for the next coming clip. Thanks.
Teacher, can you teach me how to say this word issue, please because I can understand easy when you teach, please you teach this word too that’s issue, Thank you.
Yes, I can cover "issue" in an upcoming class. In the meantime, you might find this video for "tissue" to be helpful, because it has the same sounds as "issue" ua-cam.com/video/uEHjc4jEK5A/v-deo.html
Yes, this is a good suggestion and I will cover it in a future word of the day class for you. In the meantime, you might find it helpful to look at the voiced TH sound and how it is different from the D sound: ua-cam.com/video/UudCgpMubF0/v-deo.html
Here's a video where I talk about "architecture" ua-cam.com/video/ikJw_ySSqRs/v-deo.html. For "architectural," it's the same, but the syllalble stress is on "tec" and you add a syllabic L at the end of the word. Here's a video for that L sound: ua-cam.com/video/hrfzy3yez-o/v-deo.html
I'm sure that's just what you learned by listening. It's easier to say it that way, and it follows more typical English speech patterns. I caught myself saying it that way the other day, too. Eventually it will be another correct pronunciation of the word, because language changes over time through people using it.
The dark L in this word is hard to hear because we glide right into the R from it. If you try intentionally saying it without the L, like "joo-ry," then with the L, "joul-ree" you might be better able to hear it.
I feel good that I say it properly like you. The three syllables is what so many people say and it’s irritating to me. Thank you so much for your video.
Hi, thanks for the suggestion! I cover "chaotic" in this video: ua-cam.com/video/T9z9OcM_JGM/v-deo.html For "chaotically," add a "lee" sound (be careful not to add "a-lee," just "lee."
I think it's a problem of how the word is written, and the sequence of the sounds in the word. If "jewel" was more like "joule" or "cruel," we'd be less likely to see the error. Also, the dark L plus R is a less typical sound pattern in English, so people make the error of reversing the sounds/letters e and l - jew-le-ry. There are some other sounds/words where people commonly reverse sounds or letters in writing and pronunciation, like "cavalry" or "relevant."
It drives me absolutely crazy when people say jewlery instead of jewelry!! It is dimple. Jew-wel-ry. There is no need for phonetics. Jew-wel-ry.----or---Ju-wool-rie. Another mispronunciation is realtor. People will continually say- relator. It's Real-a-ter. Or reel-a-ter. REALTOR.
These videos are primarily focused on helping non-native speakers with English pronunciation. The issue they have is that the sounds in the words may be different or non-existant in their native language, so they are not easy for them to produce correctly. Then when there are multiple sounds like this all in one word, it's even more difficult. So the "j", l, and r are hard to put together. Also the way English is spelled makes people need help - why "jewel" and "joule" and not "jool," for example. Yes, plenty of native speakers mispronounce English and I think that's who you're commenting about, but if they are here looking it up, maybe they're trying to fix their mistake, so I would support them, too.
I don’t understand why when you are not pronouncing the three syllables for proper English you pronounce jewelry with two syllables and people still do not understand the correct way to pronounce American English. So it is correct to use “joule-ry”with our tongues rolling jewelry in to two syllables and not three.
I want to thank you for making this video. I always had trouble pronouncing this word, and after watching your video. It really helped me cracked the pronunciation for jewelry.

YES! This drives me batty - especially when I hear broadcasters and professional voice actors say it for jewelry commercials
Thank you 🎉

English is crazy and challenging but if an American 4-year old child can say Jewelry, I hope that one day me too will be able to do so
Some kids can't do it until they're 6 or 7, and they've had the benefit of English as their native language. And many native speakers say it incorrectly, so be patient with yourself, it's not easy!

Can you make a video on how to pronounce Breathing and breeding

Yes, it's a little confusing - here's a video to help you: ua-cam.com/video/eMqYb0pQiTk/v-deo.html
@@SpeechModification Thanks!!!! You said my day!!!!!!! You are awesome!
Is the Joollury right pronunciation?
No, I wouldn't recommend it, though you will hear people use that pronunciation. Many native speakers mispronounce this word.
@@SpeechModification omg, I’m from Southern California (born and raised) and have been pronouncing it like Joollery too. I’m so embarrassed.
I'm sure that's just what you learned by listening. It's easier to say it that way, and it follows more typical English speech patterns. I caught myself saying it that way the other day, too. English is such a funny language..🙈😂
Plz account how to pronounce this word
Hi, I'd be happy to cover your word in a future video. In the meantime, think of it as "uh-COUNT" with the "ow" vowel like "brown cow."
@@SpeechModification thanks
Hi, I'll be covering the word "account" on Friday: ua-cam.com/video/rwkCMYB3bDQ/v-deo.html
My husband says jury!!
I still can t hear L sound.. something s wrong w me..

Can we pronounce it Joory?
That's not a typical pronunciation, no.
I feel good that I say it properly like you. The three syllables is what so many people say and it’s irritating to me. Thank you so much for your video.

how pronouns of chaotically thks,
Hi, thanks for the suggestion! I cover "chaotic" in this video: ua-cam.com/video/T9z9OcM_JGM/v-deo.html For "chaotically," add a "lee" sound (be careful not to add "a-lee," just "lee."
I've had arguments with people they said two syllables i said three i won as usual
Somebody who is a native speaker of English pronounced joel-luh-ree
But they always pronounce it as JEW-LE-RY. Why?
It's probably just because it's a challenging combination of sounds and so people tend to transpose the /l/ and the /ə/ sounds.
JUL-RI
Jool ree wins for me
Thank you 🙏 this is my least favorite word. I could not say this word before
Why do so many Americans pronounce this word as if there is an extra L and the vowel A in the word? Expl. Jewel-la-ry?
I think it's a problem of how the word is written, and the sequence of the sounds in the word. If "jewel" was more like "joule" or "cruel," we'd be less likely to see the error. Also, the dark L plus R is a less typical sound pattern in English, so people make the error of reversing the sounds/letters e and l - jew-le-ry. This is an American spelling, not an English spelling. In English it's jewellery.
Thanks for the input.
